You stroll down the sandy street, glancing from side to side at the many carts and stalls. The bussling noises, sharp smells, and vibrant colors of Sakhmet fill your senses. You turn your attention towards a small pair of street performers. A bright yellow Kau is playing a strange, long flute. But while the music is exotic and exciting, most of the attention is on the dancing purple Gelertess. Her colorful skirts swish and twirl with her every turn, and the bells on her ankles tinkle with every step.
Feeling a bit generous today, you toss a few Neopoints into the small sack they have set out at their feet.

Suddenly a scream tears through the air. The music stops, and all eyes turn towards the panicked sound. When nothing amiss is found, there's a few impatient remarks, and everyone returns their attention to the musicians. As the Gelertess begins to sway once more, you glance towards the performers' Neopoint sack.
The money!" you cry with alarm, "It's gone!
The Kau and Gelertess look at their feet. When they realize their Neopoints were, in fact, missing, the Kau yelps, and the Gelertess faints clean away into her partner's arms. "Where is the thief?!" the Kau shouts above the nervous ruckus of people checking their pockets to make sure nothing else is missing.
Is this what you're looking for?" a voice asks before another word can be said. You turn to face the voice and see a Ruki with a very dark complextion and gleaming, gold and red armour. She's not very tall, sort of average in height, certainly not very intimidating, but the long double-bladed staff she's carrying by all means is. She tosses the brown pouch over to the Kau who fumbles to catch the satchel without dropping the unconsious Gelertess. The Ruki speaks again. "Caught the thief sneaking off, and heard the commotion over here. Makes sense that this is where the Neopoints belong," she explains with a small shrug, as if to say No big deal. Don't worry about it.
The Kau counts the money and then sighes with relief. "Phew... Thanks, Staff.
What an odd name you think to yourself. As the Ruki begins to walk off you follow out of curiousity. She pauses half-way down the lane when she notices you following. "Do you need something?" she asks.
You reply, "No, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm guest.
The Desert Ruki grins, and a trace of amusement lingers in her bright, amber eyes. "Nice to meet you, guest. I'm--
Staff?" you finish questioningly.
She laughs, leaning casually against her tall staff. "Oh, no! That's just a nickname," she says. "It's short for Staff of Sakhmet, which is what the people like to call me.
Would that be because of that big thing you're carrying?" you inquire curiously.
Bingo," she exclaims with a broad grin. She stands up straight and hefts the thick, long weapon. "It's a handy thing," she remarks. "Anyways. My real name is Hewki, short for Hewki_the_Ruki.
You grin and reply, "You've got a lot of long names.
Hewki laughs again. "Goodness! You're right! I've never really noticed!" she exclaims, looking quite surprised with herself. "So, tell me 'bout yourself, guest.
You tell her about where you're from, and about your pets. After you're finished, you ask her the same.
Ah, I don't have a short-and-sweet description," the Ruki chuckles nervously, rubbing the back of her neck. "Y'sure you want to listen to it all?
You nod.
She shrugs. "Well, okay then."

Home
Home: that's a long story in itself. I was raised up in Neopia Central by a human named Bio. (I'll tell you about her and my family later.) We have a strange looking Neohome. Not a lot of thought went into the floorplan, which explains the door in my room leading to a solid chocolate wall. But it was home for the longest of time. Years later, I wanted to return to the Lost Desert to learn a little about my roots. I was hoping for it to be just a vacation of sorts, but when I visited Sakhmet and saw the help that was needed here I knew I had to stay. I have a small apartment that I live in here - two rooms, two floors, with a itty-bitty garden on the roof. I spend most of my time here in Sakhmet now, but I still refer to the neohome in Neopia Central as "home", too, and I visit there every now and then. I never did learn much about my heritage.

What do I do?
Hah, a lot. I roam the streets keeping an eye on thieves and watching the workers backs. Guards tend to patrol the main streets, so I stick to the backroads and allyways. Since that doesn't pay, I do odd jobs for neopoints. Usually, short-term bodyguard, escort, nightwatch, and delivery-girl.
Sleep? What is this "sleep" you speak of? Just kidding. Sure, I get in a catnap every now and then, just during odd hours. Mealtimes and nighttime are when the thieves are hopping. Especially the latter. So, yeah, I do snooze. I'm no DoN, y'know.

The Staff
My staff is a Qasalan Double Bladed Staff. A caravan brought it in one day, all the way from Qasala. I saved my neopoints and bought one once another came in. It's a difficult weapon to use, but I picked up a few tips from travelling warriors. I get plenty of practice in, so I've become quite handy with it.

Cooking Skills
I can't cook. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Cero. Nothin'. Nada. My brownies are like bricks, and don't get me started on soup. A cooking utensil in my claw is a weapon of mass destruction. I burn even water. Yeah, that bad. And my terrible cooking skills led to my turning vegetarian. It's a long story involving Grakle-Stuffed Turkey, an exploding oven, a chisel, and several hours of scraping.

Family
This is my owner! But she's so much more like a mother. biogirl1991 took me in when I was just a little mite, lost with nothing but my name and-- well, not even a name, actually. She spends most of her time taking care of my sisters and me, writing, and answering countless neomail. But she really loves getting mail! So feel free to send her some!
Naddy is the eldest of our little bunch. She's a friendly little Blue Shoyru in Christmas clothing. She possitively adores going to Mystery Island beaches to swim. She wouldn't leave the water for anything. Except storms. She won't swim during a storm. Naddy also has a petpet named Suru who keeps her busy. But I'm sure a Snarhook who loves coffee could keep anyone busy.
The second eldest is Aneran. She's the brainy one of the family, but you'd never guess it. Her goofy, playful personallity hides her intelligence well. The silly Yellow Aisha loves to fiddle around with magnets. She hasn't made any important discoveries, but she has learned that it's not very smart to take them with on a tour of Virtupets Space Station's computer labs. When she's not reading or fiddling, she's sock-slding which is her own little sport. She can tell you about that.
Thanya is all smiles; she's unusually optomistic and perky. The little Usul loves ice cream with a passion. She would probably eat it everyday if Ma let her. And, of course, being an Usul Thanya can't help but be at least a little fashion concious. She is getting to be quite the seamstress though.

Friends
My good friend, Zan, is a tall Fire Ruki that I met in Sakhmet. He was part of a band of thieves, but he's levt all that behind and is determined not to repeat past mistakes. He's kind of quiet sometimes, but a lot of fun otherwise. Zan also has faerie-granted abilities to use fire. Pretty nifty. Not to mention handy in some cases.
Shar_Pei is practically a sister to me. We've been great friends for a while and have travelled all over Neopia together! Altador, Sakhmet, Qasala, lots of places. She's really friendly and really fast. She could cross the desert without stopping and not break a sweat! She also adores Tchea Fruits. Between you and me, I kinda got her hooked on 'em. Long story. But, all in all, Shar_Pei's a great friend and always interesting to hang around.

Well, I think that covers it," Hewki says. She's leaning against a wall now, and you're sitting on a wooden crate. It had taken a while for her to answer your question. Apparently, the Desert Ruki wasn't exaggerating about it not being "short-and-sweet".
I'd better be going, guest," Hewki says, straightening up and resting her staff on her shoulder. "It's almost sunset. Time to watch for prowlers.
All right. Thanks," you say with a nod. You'd better be going home, too.
