Why

Take Screenies?

So, why take screenies? It's a lot of work but it's a good way to be recognized in Neopia. Besides, you can keep a record of milestones like highscores and avatar lends. Screenies are entertaining too and you'll have fans in no time!

How

to Take a Screenie
OK, this is the most basic step. Taking a screenie!
PC users: On the upper right corner of your keyboard there is a button entitled 'print screen.' Press that to take a picture of the whole screen.

Mac users: Press command, shift, 3 to take a picture of the whole screen. Press command, shift, 4 and a different cursor will pop up. Click and drag the cursor over what you want to screenie and it will screenie only that section.

Screenie

Editing
Now to edit your screenie! First, open up Gimp. Then you'll need to open up your picture.

Click open and find your image on the window that pops up. Now your picture is on the screen.

If you printed the whole screen you'll need to crop your picture. So click on the move icon.

That's the highlighted icon.

Your screenie takes up more space and doesn't look as nice with your browser and any other unnecessary things on the screen. So click and hold, preferably in the lower right corner, and drag up to the upper left corner. Like so:

Now drag the picture up until the browser and all that text is gone. Then set the paint tool to it's largest size.

The largest size is the one in the black square. And what's with that pepper?

With this you can color the bottom, side, and any other part of the image you don't want. This is so you have room for text.

You'll probably end up with more white space than you need so crop the picture like you have been to get rid of the extra space.

When you're done your screenie will look something like this:

(I made it small so it would fit here, yours should be bigger)!

If you're still having trouble highlight file, click new and set the height and width the size of just the part you want to be screenied. Then copy the original image and paste it on the smaller screen.

This is hard to describe so if you're still confused neomail me and I'll walk you through it.

Adding

Text and Other Things

Now you can add text and circles and arrows and such.

Some screenies don't require this stuff and you shouldn't overdo it. But if you want to express something in particular this can be necessary. So lets begin!
Arrows and Circles! This is simple. Click on the paint or pencil icon:

They are next to each other.
So click on one, pick your size like how you did before and draw to your heart's content!

These are some poorly drawn examples! :)
Now for text! Click on the text button(the little A), now you can click and drag where you want text.

In the box below the icons(where you set brush sizes) you can set the size, color, and font of your text.

When your done go to the layers box and make sure you click 'background. On a side note make is easy to read.

1: Font Type
2: Font Size
3: Font Color
Your screenie will now look something like my sample screenie.

I just don't have any arrows on my screenie as I don't need any. And this screenie is small so it doesn't mess up the layout. Yours should be larger. Yours should also be more interesting!

Other

Tips!

Protecting Privacy

Unless you get permission, if you're taking a screenie with usernames, pet names, or petpage links, you'll need to cover them up.

Don't use a color on white or white on another color. Use the eyedropper tool on what the thing the username is on and cover the username with that color (sorry if that's confusing, it's hard to explain) basically, it keeps it neat.

This is what the icon looks like.

Screenie Art

Another fun screenie idea is to use you or your pets as characters and draw pictures to go along with the screenies. My drawing makes cave art a masterpiece but Trill has a great guide here!

Uploading

Your Screenie
So you're done! So save your screenie. You can name it anything you want.

I'm going to be using tinypic to upload my screenie as it works well and does not require creating an account.

So go to their homepage and click browse.

Then click the name of your screenie. You may need to 'X' out of this -blocked- Last, just click upload!

When it's done click on 'View Full Size Image.

Then right click on it, select properties, and copy the address.

Now

You're Done!

You've successfully created a screenie! Good for you!

If you've created a screenie page using this guide neomail me with a link and I'll put it on this page. Congrats!
