A Chance Meeting

The moon was hidden behind a bank of clouds, and a thick shroud of darkness had fallen across the land. A river gurgled to your right, on your left, thick swathes of bamboo impaired the vision. The night air was thick with the smell of oncoming rain and rich soil, the ground soft and damp. Something flashed. Swiveling your head around, you pin point the flicker of movement, and peer around a japanese maple. The clouds clear, and a flash of silver lights up the darkness. A xweetok stands in front of you surveying you with deep green eyes. His pelt is speckled and dotted, his dragonfly wings glinting, and the turqoise gems on his leg bands shimmer faintly. He says nothing, but gives you a long hard look. The clouds recover the moon, and once again everything is plunged into darkness. When the moon appears once more, the xweetok is gone.

Name: HachiHotaru
Meaning: (roughly) Eight Firefly
Nickname: Hachi
Live number (original): 9
Life number (currently): 8
Parents: Father unknown, mother dead upon his birth.
Age: 17
Personality: Subtle, Logical, Calm, Relaxed, Confidant, Stategical, Helpful, Quiet. Faults: Jealousy, aloofness and reluctance to trust others. Hachi will mingle, and help whomever he can, but it's hard to earn his deepest trust, and if you lost it, it's probably gone forever.
Hachi has learned from his mother's mistakes, he likes to help others, and isn't afraid to stick his neck out. Due to his hidden early years, he dislikes being trapped, whether physically or metaphorically. Hachi is rather clever, enjoying puzzles, and shunning social events to go outside and contemplate a question.
Height: 3 ft, 5 inches.
Build: Long legs, muscular, sleek, large paws.
Birthplace: Masaruchi
Species: Xweetok
Paint: (In the future) Faerie
Design info: (By Kai, a.k.a. Rezieo)
Elements: Water, Air and Earth. (Ice included with water.)
Hobbies: The martial arts, weaponry, and origami.

Magical Powers

Hachi's power is the manipulation of water, air, and earth, (ice included). Apart from simply controlling the elements, Hachi includes them in martial arts, such as forcing the air around his fist to harden to make an extra-hard punch. He's deadly with a sword or knife, but also enjoys origami, another part of his magic. Hachi's magic like other Masaruchi sorcerers encompasses certain crafts as well as the elements. He can namipulate any sort of weaponry, making knifes that won't break, etc. When making origami, he can manipulate the paper any way he wants, folding it impossibly small in some cases.

Likes

Origami, weapons, his daggers, (which his lives will go into later in the plot), metal, water, cold/chilly breezes, water, exploring, being alone to think, and sneaking out at night.

Dislikes
People who make fun of him for liking origami, heat, fire, selfishness, ignorance, and being trapped.

Listen to the quiet ones
Listen to their silence
A whispered word, just barely heard
Can't accuse as well as a lack of sound
The wisest thought is the one least found
People say everyone ends up like their parents
That's just a false pretense
To say that any faults they have, they're learned from them
But what if you don't have any guardians?
I won't bother to lift a finger to my defense
My faults are numerous, but don't try to fix me, you will fail
Broken glass is more beautiful
Than a cracked window

History

About Masaruchi Personal Past Join the Sorcerers?

Masaruchi

The City had existed for centuries by Shengkuu, north in the valleys. The center was a palace, the outskirts were protected by walls. But the real protection of the city was the sorcerers and sorceresses. Masaruchi was a city with little poverty, lots of culture, art, and magical inhabitants. Almost everyone in the city could perform basic magic. Soon a system was established, depending on magical power. Those with bad character, or those who abused their power were forcibly removed from the city. The fact that everyone could do magic made it hard for any one sorcerer/ess to take power. (Unfortunately, that happens in the end, this is going to be a plot.)

How the Life System works.

The more lives you have the more power, it's as simple as that. But, power increases exponentially, so though there is little difference between a 1-2, there is a huge one between 9 and 10.

45% of the population only had one life or two, and meager control over one element or craft. Some could control both element and craft, but never more than one of each.

25% had three to four lives, and all had at least one element and one craft, but with only a tiny power rise over the ones and twos. Occasionally a 3-4 lifer would have one added craft power.

Taking up 20% of the city, the 5-6s had modest control, enough to stop a river for 30 seconds before fainting. They had one element and two crafts, it wasn't uncommon for them to have two elements.

7%, 7 livers had control over their elements that was gifted, not truly powerful, but a 7 could easily take out a 3 or 4, and it would be a minor struggle to bring down a 5 or 6. They had more endurance, always had 2 elements with various 2 crafts, (there was never anyone with more than 2, unless they had a less than usual # of elements for their life status) and it was rare to have 3 elements, but not impossible.

8 livers were the beginning of the elite, with 3 elements each always, and 2 crafts. Their power was enough to bring down a crowd of 7s and 6s. Usually there were only 16, and they patrolled the city streets at night, preventing trouble.

9s were rare, with only 13 around at a time. They had power enough to blow up a street, and kept things running, surveying crops, etc. They had 3 elements and 2 crafts like the eights, but with considerably more power.

10s were very rare, with power that could blast a street to pieces and level a building. They had the same elemental/craft amounts as the 9s, but, as in the previous cases, with more power. There are never more than 3 at a time.

Elevens, with a limit of 2, also have 3 elements, 2 crafts, but they can blow up 2 streets and level 2 houses, their power double that of a ten.

A twelver is rare, there is only one at a time, sometimes not for a decade after the old one's death, and though they control 3 elements and 2 crafts like the others, they can easily destroy an army, and at full power, destroy half the city. However, their power tends to be more uncontrollable, so they usually enter training for 8-18 years before assuming the duties, training lenghts varying due to age, control, and temprament. They make many important choices, deal with other countries, control natural disasters, and other things, when dangerous threats arise.

Losing a Life
When a sorcerer/ess loses a life, they enter a blackout period that can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, depending on the damage. Some wounds (such as if they get vaporized in a fire blast) are to extreme it may take 5 lives to heal them, because then the body has to regenerate. A simple wound, like a stab, when the body is still intact, will be just one life loss. To prevent enemies from stabbing/killing them during or right after the healing trance, a sorcerer will enter a series of magical convulsions, sort of like death throes. These are dangerous, and violent, a final energy reserve. Upon waking, a sorcerer will have the same memories/intelligence/magical power. Losing a life does not reduce their overall magic, and it is like simply falling unconscious, then waking.

Other Life Information

It is impossible to take the extra life of another for your own use. Trying to do so will let loose your magic, it will attempt to pull all your power out to sieze the life. Eventually, when your magic is gone it will grab your life force, and slowly, your life will be sucked out untill you die. Lives can be transported to inanimate objects, and will be destroyed if their new vessel is magically ruined. However, they are given an order, if you put your third life in a ring, then if you lose a life and it was not your third, it will stay there. If you have 3 lives left and you lose one, the ring's life will vanish, and it will be just a normal ring.

Plot information: I've been meaning to do this for months, basically, the plot starts out with all the sorcerers/esses in the city, the new ones being trained, etc. A stranger named Cyrene, with the power to hypnotize will flatter and sneak her way into the government. Since she can drain the power of anyone she utterly fools, when she reveals her evil purposes, she steals magic from the sorcerers, puts their lives into inanimate objects to make them easier to destroy. Mekai was NOT fooled by her, and so had little magic stolen. Cyrene enprisons them all, telling Mekai (and any others who weren't fooled) that she must surrender her power or she will kill the others. But, they break out during the night. Cyrene and her guards find out, and attack the fleeing xweetoks. They scatter, split up, and wander their own ways before finding their way to TXF. Cyrene will hunt them down and follow to the forest, where there will be one last conflict.

HachiHotaru, history and past.

My mother was a potent level 8, though she had lost her other lives, and only had 1 left. Her name was Chamarisu. She was a respected member of the government. I? I was a mistake. She lived in glamour, but went travelling off to Altador. She spent 5 months there in sunshine, luxury, and relaxation. She must have met my father there, but who he is I don't know, and never will. When she came back, she had me a few months later. She told nobody who my father was. It would have been a huge scandal, but she managed to cover it up, claiming she had gotten fat, and hiding herself from the public. People were still suspicious, but that didn't help me. When I was born, something went wrong, and she died. With her last words, she told the mails to continue to hide me, to preserve her honor. Selfish to the end. I would have died as well, but though she was on her last life, I was not as unlucky. I was born a 9 liver, and still had eight left. Hence, my name. So, my life of secrecy began. Only several maids knew of my existance, and I spent a life living under the floors in her palace, living in secret rooms, and sneaking up to the roof at night. Eventually, I was discovered.

The moon was a narrow cresent, barely illuminating the hedge-ridden gardens. Fountains blew spume into the air, and many canals and waterways linked the gardens, full of bonsai, japanese maples and various exotic flowers. I crept, carefully through the few moonlit patches, hiding in the shadows, reveling at the power of being alive, the joy of the sharp darkness, and the keen senses I had. Voices, murmuring and soft, caught my attention. I turned the corner, and slunk undetected past two xweetoks, one male, one female, clad like Gypsies. Two young kits, my age, sat at their heels. "We'll be right back." crooned the mother. They left, and the kits sat alone in the moonlight. I said nothing, but followed the parents. They left the city walls, and boarded a caravan. They left, trundling down the road. I didn't kid myself, they'd ditched the kids, thinking they'd be okay in this posh city. Sighing, I snuck back to the place where the kits still sat. One, with hair sticks and a large ornamental flower, sat staring ahead of her, while another, black with the symbol for love in silver on his flank, played in the fountain short ways off. I stepped out of the shadows, in front of the girl, the one staring ahead. She had ornamental, colorful wings like a butterfly kite, and her brother's wings were less decorative, but similar. She glanced at me, suprised, but with no alarm. "Who are you?" she asked, getting to her paws. "I'm HachiHotaru. Just Hachi."

I'm Mekai Chan. Mekai for short. Why is your nickname eight?"

Well, when I was born I lost a life. I had 9, now I have 8. That's why.

Interesting. Well that's Califer." she said, gesturing to her brother. He seemed more like a kit than she did, she held herself with poise and acted like an adult. Later I would learn she wasn't always this formal. "Our parents went to get some drinks." I hesitated. Should I tell her the truth? I did. "Wha-No! They'd never leave us!" she said, but eventually I persuaded her. She was crestfallen, but kept her voice down. "Don't tell Califer. It would crush him. I'll tell him we're just here to train, and they'll come back someday." Califer swallowed the lie. Unfortunately, the caretaker found us. We were whisked away to the orphanage, he didn't believe my protest that we lived there, which was true for me only, but I'd liked the other kits. They hadn't been nosy, and though I was a tad aloof and wary at first, be quickly became friends.

A New Life

(Includes the Magic testing in detail, and Hachi's Adoption)
I remember the day they came. The inspectors. Or "examiners" as most call them. There's an age, about 7 years old, when every xweetok is tested for magic. I never knew how, though. Not untill this day. Califer and I were around the same age, the orphanage owners weren't sure of our exact ages since they didn't know our origin. And we didn't tell them, they made us nervous, Sacamuchi and Turo. Oh, they were nice. But intimidating. Both rather tall, with storm grey eyes. Brother and sister, I think. We didn't see them often, we hung around with the other orphans, Machi, Katelye, and Desmon, who was half altadorian, like myself. I liked my solitude, but Mekai and Califer could usually convince me to join in a game. They were all younger than us. Mekai was our leader, undisputed, wiser than the rest of us. We later learned she was almost ten years older! For some weird reason, she physically aged slower. We later learned it was due to her power. -Anyway, the examiners came, and we were terrified. Not of them so much, but that this was our last hope of leaving this place, even though it wasn't that bad. I was a bit calmer than the other too, but I shook when I heard a knock upon the door. Three stepped in, one for each of us. Mekai, Califer and I all exchanged nervous glances as we were taken into separate rooms. Oh no. My examiner was brown, with intense purple eyes that seemed to scan me, and lay all my secrets bare. But as I learned later, he really had little knowlege of my power. He said just to call him Sir. I thought he was.....odd, but I didn't dare to say so. He didn't tell me what he was going to do, just said close your eyes. I did, tail twitching anxiously. Then....I changed. My fear swept away as a strange current of energy flowed through me, slowly spreading a strange rush of heat and power along my body. I felt like I could do anything, as if my body was supercharged, and crackled with newfound power. And then, a new feeling spread across me. Something in my mind sparked into life, and began to glow, like a well of being, of me, of essence, untill it spilled over it's boundaries and coursed through me with a rush of adrenaline. The examiner had poured a quick flare of magic into me to awaken my own. My eyes opened. The air in the room began to come together, as the twinge in my mind pressed harder, and I grabbed onto it, focusing on a swirl with my mind, pulling it firmly into submission. A small tornado licked up from the floor, splinters of wood, the examiner's paper, pencils, even a painting in it's frame on the wall swirled around me, untill the cyclone whipped up higher and higher. Next, I pulled. I grabbed that twinge in my mind, and I yanked it up. My feet left the floor. I shuddered in a moment of shock, but didn't let go. My examiner stared, surprised, and became awestruck as water from the river outside flowed through the window, winding through the air to join me in my tornado. The water funnelled to the top, untill finally, with a gleefull smile, I released it, and it fell as a waterfall down to the floor, only to be sucked up again. Ice crystals formed at the top, and I wove them into patterns, and when that got boring, sharpened them into swords. A plant next to the window, with aromatic purple flowers nodded in the wind from my cyclone, I beckoned it, and it grew higher, flourishing and growing at a fast rate, steadily taking over the window. My examiner yelped as I poured more water in from the river untill the room resembled a lake, except this lake was hovering several inches off the floor. The flower snuck in, like a vine, through the window and spread it's bulk out on the wall where it continued to grow. "Stop!" yowled the examiner, "STOP!" My mind slackened, the plant stopped. I fell to the floor unceremoniously, and the water splashed down onto the floor. An ice sword landed, quivering, point embedded in the wood planks just an inch from Sir's foot. He stared at me, astounded, and called loudly. "Sacamuchi? Turo?" The two hurried in, eyes widening as they took in the bizarre scene. "We've got ourselves a 9 liver!" Their eyes popped. "OHmyGosh!" was the inicial reaction. Then I was shooed out while they discussed my future in hushed voices. I waited by the door. Mekai entered from her room, looking very pleased with herself. "I'm an 8." she accounced. "They said I had an unusually high level of control." "I'm a 9." I told her. "That's great! We -" Just then there was a flash of light, seeping out from Califer's testing area through the door crack. For several minutes we were blinded. The clock ticked away, and it was half an hour later before Califer came out. His examiner, a red female, looked as it she was about to faint from excitement. "Come quickly!" she shouted, and everyone else burst out from their rooms. "HE'S A 12!" Then she really did faint, along with Sacamuchi. Turo and the rest were in shock, Mekai and myself included. "I had no idea!" I said quietly. Mekai by contrast, was getting louder and more hysterical. "THAT'S GREAT!" she said, running back into the room to drag out and hug her bewildered brother. The rest of the day swept by quickly, I was still in a daze, and when evening came, I crashed into bed. The next morning, there was a knock on the orphanage door, and all three of us were quickly awoken, to be adopted. "By retired sorcerers, no less!" said Turo. I was taken first, an elegant white xweetok stepped out of the car. She was old, but vigorous, and held herself with poise and grace. A fool might think her weak, but I knew better. A deadly jagged dagger hung from a belt around her waist, but instead of frightening me, it captivated me. I held out my paw unconsciously, and the knife leaped into it. Everyone was stunned. My soon to be guardian stared at me, and then smiled. "It looks like his magic extends to the craft of weaponry!" She took my other paw, and said, "Would you like to keep it?" I nodded happily, eyes wide. "I'm Chira. And I know you are HachiHotaru." Her use of my full name reassured me, she was cordial, but she seemed to know I was not to be fussed over untill my trust was earned, understanding me more than anyone else. I followed her, somewhat reluctantly, out to a beautiful boat, built like a gondola, sitting on the river. She rowed, and we both sat in silence, the way I liked it. She asked no questions, and in her aloofness and in mine, we got along, and she earned my trust fairly quickly. I eagerly watched the landscape, my body still but my eyes roving. We stopped at a water garden, complete with small islands with various trees, and got out upon a small path that led up to a beautiful mansion. It was there my training began

Tidbits
The knife was cool in my hand. Chira gave me an appraising look. "It needs to be harder to be effective." she said quietly. I knew her well enough by now to understand that was her way of asking a question. "Remember your lessons." I clenched the knife, and clamped my mind upon it, thinking of compactness, feeling a tightness inside. The knife quivered, and then straightened, harder than before. I pulled, and thinned a side out to a deadly thin edge, jaggeding it next. She looked on approvingly, and nodded, her way of approval, more meaningful to me than useless words.

The festival of the moon was fun. There were lanturns everywhere, vendors selling various delicious foods, dancing and music. Even I, disliking most social occasions, was enthralled. Contests, games, and tours of other resident's gardens, which I enjoyed. Best of all, I was alllowed to roam free, and soon met up with Mekai and Califer. We roamed around, eating, and even went for a run on the rooftops. Chira let me see them often after that, and our training progressed.

Chira was an expectant teacher, and a good one. She had me fold paper into origami with my mind only, as she had discovered that lay in my realms of power as well. She had me train physically, stretching, running, and practicing the martial arts. I learned how to manipulate weapons, how I could get them to weaken or harden. I learned kicking techniques, and soon anyone who pestered me or Mekai and Califer would regret it. I was always cautious though, warned by Chira many times to never become petty, or abuse my power.
(More to be added as story/plot commences.)

Join as a sorcerer?

Yes, you can apply to join this plot and have a xweetok become a sorcerer! Or sorceress. You may pick a level, (amount of lives) and design them, but keep in mind there is a limited amount of positions for the higher levels. Petpage apps are nice, but a good lookup is fine. A rp sample is a must, don't worry, you don't have to write novels! But do not use chat speak. Designs are necessary, you have free reign, but please try to make it slightly oriental. Your pet can have whatever past you want, nccs are allowed, though you still have to apply. Young sorcerers are taken in for training, I'll have some ncc retired sorcerers to train young ones. I hope to have the plot start in a month, maybe less depending on how many people join, and how quickly. If you apply for a very high position, like 11, 10, 9, I'll probably require a petpage. Don't worry, all you need is basic stuff, nothing fancy, and it doesn't have to be complete. Neomail woofiedog5

The one and only...

Califer

Acquaintences

Ah, yes, Mekai. The wise one. She's always been responsible, we get along quite well. She's good at hiding things, and unfortunately, is quite a good liar. Secrecy is her middle name, though it usually all ends out well, whatever the current conflict is. She's our captain, though none of us ever knows all of her plan. She likes to give us only the information we need and nothing more, except sometimes my conscience bothers me, and I think we really should have told Califer about his parents....

Oh Califer, Califer....He's gullible, that's for sure. I think he believes all creatures have a good core somewhere in the depths of their hearts. I neither agree or disagree, I don't think I've seen enough of the world to decide. Califer is usually too carefree, which irks me sometimes, but his cheerfullness is nice to have around.

Chira
I owe so much to her, a mentor that lets you figure things out on your own. She recognized my intelligence, and merely guides me along, never being repetitive, which I appreciate. She's quiet, but she has an aura that silences and gives you an inclination to respect her. She's logical like myself, and detests hypocrites. Her good looks give her a lot of attention, but she spurns most of it, and only has conversations with people who talk about meaningfull things.

Machi, Katelye, and Desmon.
Machi's name is very much like mine, and she's fascinated with people. Only 4 years old when we first met, she would already follow people around, memorize their habits, and she pays acute attention to details rather than the whole picture. I find her very annoying, but don't see her very often, usually just on the streets. She got adopted by a sweet lady who wanted a daughter. Quite a fitting pair, no? Katelye showed great aptitude in artistry, and went on to become an artist's apprentice. She was abstract, found focusing on anything mathmatical boring, and got tired of things quickly. Art is the only thing that command her attention for any long period of time. Desmon was a brooding fellow. He was a little skittish, so we didn't know each other very well, despite our games together with the others. I do know however, he revels in anything about insects. A little strange, but...interesting I supposse. I didn't find him of much intrest.

Lyrics

How long before I get in?
Before it starts, before I begin?
How long before you decide? Before I know what it feels like?
Where To, where do I go?
If you never try, then you'll never know. How long do I have to climb,
Up on the side of this mountain of mine?

Look up, I look up at night,
Planets are moving at the speed of light. Climb up, up in the trees,
every chance that you get, is a chance you seize.
How long am I gonna stand,
with my head stuck under the sand?
I'll start before I can stop,
before I see things the right way up.

All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found. And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand

Ideas that you'll never find,
All the inventors could never design.
The buildings that you put up,
Japan and China all lit up.
The sign that I couldn't read,
or a light that I couldn't see,
some things you have to believe,
but others are puzzles, puzzling me.

All that noise, and all that sound,
All those places I got found.
And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand,
ah when you see it then you'll understand

All those signs, I knew what they meant.
Some things you can invent.
Some get made, and some get sent,
Ooh
Birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand,
ah, when you see it then you'll understand
