How Art Swaps Work
Here's Haao to explain just how art swaps go around here.
Hey guys, anyone remember me from the points page I used to run here? Well, number crunchin' wasn't much my style, but it looks like I got a new job. If you don't remember me, well Darlin', that means you're new to CAU and better listen up to these instructions as to how we jam, alright? Good. Now let's get that Q & A rollin'!
What is an Art Swap?
Well that's a mighty fine question you're asking here! An art swap is like a massive, multi-person art trade. You'll draw art for somebody in the guild, and you'll get a piece back in return for your efforts! Plus, you get to check out what everybody got, too. Sound like your cup of tea? If so, you should sign up and enter!
Who should enter the Art Swap?
I'm gonna be blunt with ya... jazzy as getting art of your characters may be, you don't get if you don't give! If you sign up for the Art Swap, remember, you're making a COMMITMENT that you will spend time and effort to make sure someone else gets somethin' that will make them happy. For this reason, we've got a couple little rules to join.
TO ENTER THE ART SWAP YOU MUST:
- Be an ACTIVE or COMMITTED member of CAU. To be eligible to enter, you must have a rank of Eclectic Eraser or higher, or otherwise demonstrate your activity.
- Still a sketch? Not a problem. This event is intended to welcome new members as well, so as long as you continue to remain active in CAU in the early stages of this event, you will be able to participate. For more info, see the deadlines section.
- Possess reasonable skill in art. This is indeed an ART swap, and if you know you can't draw your way out of a paper bag, this event probably isn't for you. However, don't be discouraged. No one is a perfect artist, and so long as you demonstrate that you put a good deal of effort into your artwork, you should qualify.
- Be willing to put TIME and EFFORT into a QUALITY piece of artwork for one of your guildmates. Again, I cannot stress enough that this is a COMMITMENT, and it is key that you do not sign up for this event if you know you will not be able to put your best effort into a piece of artwork and meet the deadlines. Oh yeah, speaking of those...
- Be able to meet our DEADLINES. No one wants to be the one person who didn't get their artwork on release day, and no one wants to be the one person everyone is waiting impatiently for so that the page goes up.
- Be aware: if you enter the art swap and do not fulfill your end of the bargain (ex: do not complete requested art, constantly miss deadlines, etc) there may be consequences including banning from future CAU events. Remember though, we are reasonable, and we aren't going to boot you from the guild if you end up in a coma and miss a deadline or something.
What quality of entry is expected in the Art Swap?
The final pic you submit should display a couple of things. Make it decently sized, please, this isn't a custom adoptable swap. It will also need to be in COLOR and include a BACKGROUND, even if it's just pretty colors or something. You are also encouraged to sign your picture. :) We will give ya'll more detail on this when the names actually come out. Remember, you can always mail a council member if you get stuck and are looking for help or redlines.

Heck, I have no qualms about embarrassing everyone with their old art. XD Here are some of CAU's previous art swaps. Be aware the rules may have been different then as well.

Your Submission
What it should look like
Refer back to the Q and A for the specifications of the art you submit. Put simply, remember: make it decently big, make it beautiful, make it color with a background and sign it with your name! :D Make sure you follow the requests of the artist you received. Do not tell people who you are drawing for.
DO NOT TELL PEOPLE WHO YOU ARE DRAWING FORRRRRRR!!!!
...got the point? It's a SECRET art swap, so that means please don't broadcast to the world ad universe OMG I GOT CHUCK NORRIS!!! This also means do not publicly post your finished product or neomail the person you got when you realize their ref was totally unclear as to what this guys hair/scales/whatever looks like.
If you have questions to ask about the design, neomail Koryo and she will forward your question to the original artist and get back to you.
As for when you finish your art...
Where To Send It
Heeey, lucky you, there's no form to send this time. Instead, you should just send Koryo your completed artwork. Remember please that your art is SECRET until posting day, meaning please don't go upload it on your art site until AFTER the entries have all been submitted and posted up for everyone to see on reveal day. That said, please post your entry discretely on a petpage for a moment and send Koryo a mail about it or find some other stealthy way to get it to me. If you need help uploading your entry/delivering it, please mail Koryo and she can help establish some other arrangement.All set now? GET DRAWING! 8D
