GTP's Guide to Making Neopoints!Need money to help support your expensive Mutant habit? Well here's GTP's quick guide to making money on Neopets, but remember that everyone has different strengths so what works for me may not work for you! But remember, the key is thinking long-term! Get rich quick schemes rarely work and if they do work they're probably illegal! But there are tons of great ways to make money on Neopets if you're just willing to put in a little effort! First, the Stock Market is one of my favorite ways to make money because it's incredibly easy, it just takes some serious patience! The stock market on Neopets is an incredibly safe way to invest your money because unlike in the real world, stocks rarely go under here. The way it works is you can buy up to 1000 shares a day. The best strategy is to buy 1000 shares of a single stock every day as long as you have the funds to do that. You'll want to buy these shares at EXACTLY 15nps a share. This means that it will cost you 15,000 nps each day. This may sound like a lot of money but trust me it's worth it. I keep at least a million in stocks at all times and often more if I can because by investing your money there you ensure that you have the opportunity later to make a big profit. Once you've bought these shares you just sit there and wait and check your portfolio as often as possible but it's good to try and check it at least once a day. When your stock goes up to 30nps a share or higher you should sell. If you prefer you can decide to wait until it gets to 45nps a share or even higher but you have to understand that the likelihood of it going up decreases the higher it gets. So I always say 30nps a share because if you wait for 45nps a share or even 60nps a share hoping to make more money and it suddenly drops from 35 to 15 you've missed the opportunity to sell and make a profit. It's your call, but as long as you sell the stock for MORE than you paid for it you'll make a profit. So that's the other good thing about the stock market. If you need the money badly, you can usually sell it and at least make a small profit on it. But remember, this really is a long-term game and you're pretty much guaranteed to win it if you can let your money sit there long enough. But if you're not a patient person this may not be for you! The only money you lose is that Nigel takes a 20np commission each time you sell a stock but that's honestly small change in the grand scheme of things. Also remember that diversifying your stocks (just like in real life) is a good thing. Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Instead, try and have your money invested in lots of different stocks! So as an example, I might buy 1000 shares of BB for 15k one day. A month later it may have gone to 30. I sell it and since it's doubled in price I now make basically a 15k profit and get 30k back! Great way to invest! Second, playing games. Lots of people love to play games on Neo and if you are an avid game player you can definitely make quite a few thousand every day. But frankly, I don't play games to earn nps because it's an incredibly inefficient way to make money. It takes a lot of time and effort and I much prefer options where I can just stick my nps in the stock market or in my Mall Shop or something like that and do nothing while I wait to turn a profit. But that said, if you need nps games are a quick and generally easy way to make money! And there are tons of game guides out there if you need help! Third, Restocking. (RSing) Restocking is very simple in concept but often very complex in execution. The idea is that you buy items from a Neopets shop (like the Book Shop or the Food Shop, etc.) and then re-sell them in your shop for the Shop Wizard price. To turn a profit this means that you need to know which items are sold in each shop that are sold at less than their market value. So for instance, I used to RS in the Garden Shop and you could find for instance the Star of Paradise Flower in the shop for 2500nps and if you could manage to buy it before someone else beat you to it you could sell it on the shop wizard for 4.7k and quickly almost double your profit. The pros of RSing are that you can make a LOT of money very quickly, especially if you can snag unbuyable items (items that are worth more than 99,999nps). The cons, however, are that you have to know what items to buy and more importantly what items NOT to buy, because you will quickly lose money if you buy the wrong items. Also, you really have to have a fast Internet connection to have a chance at RSing because thousands of Neopets players actively RS so each time a shop refreshes you're competing with hundreds of your closest friends to get the few items that are actually worth buying in the shop. I think RSing is a good option and one that I used a lot in the past. But it does take work. If you decide to RS make sure you do your homework and remember that you'll have to fill in a price for the item after you've clicked it and in that instance you're much better off just putting in any number than trying to low ball the shop owner. So if the asking price is 700nps, just type in 777 b/c it's quick and the item should be worth a lot more than 700nps. Don't bother trying to type in 689nps to get a "better deal" because if you do you'll just lose out on the item itself. RSing is all about speed! But you can give yourself better odds by getting on Neo late at night when you're less likely to have as much competition. As a final piece of advice, choose the shop you RS in well. If you're a beginner the Magic shop is not a good place to start because while you can get expensive morphing potions there are tons of players there, with super fast connections and more experience than you. I'd start out with a shop that has a smaller selection so there's less for you to memorize (like the Mystical Surroundings shop perhaps) and that still has items that can turn a good profit! Or start at the Neopian Book shop because for the most part any book you buy there you can turn a profit on, though it may not be a large profit. And of course once you've RSed an item you should stock it in your shop and sell it for the shop wizard price or if it's extremely expensive you can sell it in the trading post or auctions. Fourth, Sniping. Sniping is very similar to RSing, except sniping involves other users rather than Neopian shops. Sniping simply means buying an item for much less than it's worth and can be done in the Auction House, the Trading Post or in User Shops. So for instance I like to snipe for Transmogrification Potions because often you can find them in the Auctions for 100k or so and that's a good buy if you can grab them for that and resell them on the Trading Post or use them to create your own mutants! ;) Similarly, if you've got the Super Shop Wizard via premium or even the regular shop wizard you can search for items that are popular like codestones, bottled faeries, dubloons, secret lab map pieces, etc. And if you're lucky you'll find some user has listed them for much less than they're worth. And if you can buy it first than you can re-sell the items for what they're actually worth. Sniping tends to have a bad reputation because frankly you're praying upon people who don't know what their items are worth (Especially in the Trading Post) and you're trying to convince someone to accept your offer when it may not be a really fair trade. However, as long as you don't actively act to deceive someone TNT has made it clear that sniping is just fine. Especially in terms of the auctions or user shops. If someone is willing to put their item up for a ridiculously low price that is their own fault for not researching their items before they put them up for sale. But similarly, a novice sniper can easily be taken in by an experienced one. So remember that deals that look to good to be true (on the trading post especially) probably are, and that you should do your research before you agree to any trade or bid on any auction! Fifth, Malling. While we're on the subject of money making schemes that have bad reputations we should definitely discuss malling. Malls are groups of Neopets players who join together to advertise each other's shops much like a regular mall does in real life. Each shop links to the other shops and they all try to be as high as possible in the various Neopian Markets and the "Main Mall" being the marketplace you access via the Neopian Bazaar. It costs insane amounts of money to get a shop to Main Mall size. In fact it costs about 22 million. That said, if you work at it and constantly increase your mall size with profits you've made it's definitely possible to get your shop to Main Mall size. It took me about eight months. However, it is easily the best way to make money on Neopets IF you can be patient and diligent enough to get your shop to main mall size. The way it works is that the users in a mall buy their stock at shop wizard prices and then they sell their items for a higher price. Users buy from malls because of convenience, because they're on faerie quests and can't use the shop wizard, or because they don't know any better. But, however, it happens these malls stay in business by fundamentally selling significantly over-priced items. And these malls can easily make 300k a day or more so once you get over that initial investment you quickly get your money back. But this route is not for the faint of heart and it does require a huge level of commitment and it requires you to restock your shop with items every other day or so. Sixth, Item Investing. I don't know that calling it "Item Investing" is the best name for it. Stockpiling might be a better term but that's not really accurate either. Whatever you want to call it, the idea is to buy items that you think will eventually go up in price. TNT has made it clear that you can't go out and buy hundreds of items in order to artificially inflate the market. But if you want to go and buy a Pirate PB thinking that it'll be worth more in a year you absolutely can. More effective ways to use this are to buy items that Tarla has released for instance like Secret Lab Map pieces. If you buy them right after she releases them and they're worth like 17k, you can almost guarantee that they'll be worth 50k in a few months. You just have to wait. Or for instance, Mysterious Valentines Day cards are an avatar item that aren't worth too much during the majority of the year but if you buy them in the fall while they're cheap and hold onto them until Valentine's Day they're worth tons on Valentine's Day because that's when people can use them to get the avatar! The same sort of thing happens with items before a Neopet's day. So Lupe TP's may experience a slight rise in price before Lupe day. Similarly, a lot of the TP's inflate before Mutant Day. This is also kind of a wretched way to make money because basically you're contributing to the inflation of items on Neopets that we all kinda hate. But as long as you only buy a few items and tuck them away in your SDB, TNT has made it clear that that's ok. What you can't do is see that there are 4 of an item on the Shop Wizard for 90k and then buy them all up and put them on the Trading Post and claim that the item is worth 5 million. That is completely illegal! Seventh, Employment Agency Jobs. One of the final ways to make money on Neopets is to do Employment Agency Jobs in Faerieland. Basically, the faeries release Basic Jobs every 10 minutes where they will give you a reward if you return with a certain number of items in a certain amount of time. They might ask for 4 Red Bandannas in 5 Minutes. If you can get one of these jobs before someone else snags it and if you can complete it they generally return a good profit. But these jobs are competitive and hard to get and you have to be careful because sometimes the faeries ask for an item that's worth far more than the reward. You can quit a job, but there are penalties so be aware of that. The Super Jobs require job coupons which are expensive and generally are not worth doing. The ONLY way those jobs are worth doing is if you get a Blue, Red, Silver, Gold, Purple, or Pink Job. The Silver-Pink jobs are very rare but very worth doing. But don't expect to see them often or at all. Plus you will need a corresponding job coupon or higher to do them. So if you have a gold job coupon you can do a silver job but not a purple job. Red and Blue jobs are more common but less valuable. If you're going to do those my suggestion is to buy a Red Job Coupon (NOT a silver!) and do a red job that asks for cheap items (you'll make about 10k) and then do a Blue Job that also asks for cheap items (you'll make about 5k) and then sell the Green Job Coupon you now have for whatever it's worth on the Shop Wizard. Whatever else you do NEVER NEVER NEVER do a Green Job. Once you do a green job your green job coupon disappears. The coupon is worth at least 30-40k and the job is only ever worth less than like 5k. You are much better off selling the coupon than doing the job! And one more warning - Do NOT do a Brightvale job. They are NOT worth it because the job coupon is so expensive! Well, I suppose that's about it, and I hope that has given you some ideas on how you can make money on Neopets and I wish you luck! If you have questions you're welcome to ask me, but any neomails begging for money or items will be deleted! Transcribed by GetxthexPointQueyen is a Mutant Lupe who has spent years advocating for Mutant Rights, most notably by founding the Mutant Militia along with her Scorchio brother Drakkenfire626. As a regular columnist for the Transmogrified Times, Queyen answers all of your Mutant questions, no matter how big or small! If you have a question you'd like Queyen to answer please write to her via Banet_Eh_Rih. And don't worry, Queyen keeps all individuals' names confidential (unless given express permission), so write in without fear! And now for our first writer of this issue from "Spoon" the Mutant Korbat: Hi, Queyen! First of all, I love the Mutant Militia and I'm so glad you guys are out there! But now for my question … I'm actually a Green Uni right now in the pound and I'm really upset because I was originally a Mutant Korbat, but I was GUPed and then dumped in the pound! Now, I'm stuck here in the pound until it opens (if it ever opens!) and I'm nervous that I won't find a home and that even if I do find a home I'll never get to be a mutant again, especially not my beautiful Mutant Korbat form! Do you have any advice?! Please!! I'm starting to lose hope!" Queyen: Wow this is a heavy question to start out with but I'll do my best to address all of your concerns. But first let me explain what GUP is to our readers so we're all on the same page. GUP stands for the Green Uni Project which is an organization of Neopians who adopt painted pets out of the pound and morph them with a Green Uni Potion AKA "GUPing" them. It's hard for me to understand why people do this, but fundamentally, it seems that they want to make people work for the painted pets they get. But whatever their reasoning it results in the cruel situation that you and so many other pets like yourself find yourselves in - that of being GUPed, losing your precious colour and finding yourself alone in the pound without anything necessarily to help you catch a potential owner's eye. But that said, please don't lose hope. First of all, I know we're all hoping that the pound will re-open soon and according to the latest NT editorial it looks like the pound may open in the next few months. So we can all keep our fingers crossed in that respect. Additionally, I'm sure that many owners would be willing to adopt you for your sweet personality and will work to help you get back to your wonderful mutant state! Unfortunately, there are no guarantees in life, but I wish you the best of luck. I know that I and many others do not appreciate the "great work" GUP seems to think it's doing and below I'm listing all of the previously mutant GUPed pets (like yourself) that I could find a record of that are still in the pound so that perhaps a caring reader will be willing to adopt you and return you to your former mutant glory! GUPed Mutant Pets:
TheSpoon27 - Previously a Mutant Korbat and now in the pound and sick to boot! This of course is just the tip of the iceberg and unfortunately many of the previously GUPed pets have been adopted but adopted by people who are obviously not taking care of the pets. But at least these three above could still be saved by a caring Mutant fan, and of course the neoboards are also a good place to look for information about recently GUPed mutants! A Mutant Interview by the_bone_girl2Laney, the lady from the Times is here!" calls a green eyrie as she knocks on her sisters door. Coming!" comes a voice from behind the door. It opens to reveal a mutant kacheek, wearing a dark green skirt and a white blouse. She extends her hand and the interviewer shakes it. "Hi, my name's Landora. Come on in, I've been expecting you." The aisha stepped across the threshold, and Landora closed the door behind her. "Do have a seat." she says, gesturing to three chairs sitting in front of a roaring fire. "Care for anything to drink? I boiled water for hot chocolate." The lady sat in one of the chairs, "Yes thank you." Landora emptied two packs of instant mix into two mugs, and poured the hot water into both. Now what was it you wanted to interview me about?" she asked as she handed her guest a mug. "I wanted to ask you about how you felt about being a mutant, if you don't mind." Landora sipped her cocoa, a thoughtful look on her face. "Ask away." The woman took her notebook and pencil out of her bag, "First, what were you before you were mutant, and how did you become a mutant?" Landora sat her cup on the small table in front of her and leaned back in her chair. "I was a green shoyru before. My owner, Bones, was handed a potion by sloth himself. She was going to put it in the SDB, but I said I wanted it. Boy did that ever surprise her. Landora closed her eyes, as if to picture the moment better, while the journalist's pencil flew across the paper, recording her words. "She couldn't believe it at first, I actually wanted to be mutant, but she's a good listener, and I finally talked her into it. It was harder to get my little sister Sophiea to warm to the idea. She just couldn't believe I'd do it. Bones talked to her, and she finally came around." The aisha looked up from her paper, "And what did it feel like?" Landora tilted her head slightly to one side, "Like my whole body was made of tiny bubbles, some of them popped, and that felt weird, but most of them just moved around a little." She smiled, "That tickled." The interviewer scribbled all that onto the paper and then asked, "Do you miss anything from being a shoyru?" Landora opened her eyes and frowned, "Not much. I miss my wings, mostly, but if TNT ever makes clothing wearable by mutants, Bones said she'd get me shell faerie wings. She thought those would look good with my skin color." The aisha nodded, smiling, "I bet they would. I heard you were involved in the mutant militia, care to comment?" Landora got up and walked over to a desk with papers strewn across it's surface, and picked a paper out of the mess. "Yes I do. The Militia is a wonderful group, they don't intent to attack anything but mutant prejudice. Many people avoid mutants simply because they think us ugly, many have even abandoned mutants in the pound because of that fact. We have personalities, and they don't change after you've drunk the potion. The Militia is a place where mutants and their owners can come and meet others like them. Many pets and their owners came together to make this wonderful group a reality, and thanks to them, mutants have a hope of becoming much more than a product of one of Sloth's experiments." The lady nodded, "Do you ever wish you hadn't drunk that potion?" Landora smiled. Never. |

Special Thanks
A huge thanks goes to my best friend Wtrswoopes! She and I were discussing the need for a new look for the Mutant Militia (and it's sister pages) and she graciously offered up her extremely advanced coding and graphics skills and so this newly designed Mutant Militia (and it's sister pages, which are also being re-modeled) was truly a joint effort between the two of us! My content, art and design ideas were combined with her amazing skill to bring forth the brand new directory you see before you! So thanks so much to you Swoopes because without you this page would never be as amazing as it is now! ;)
