...my earliest memory was when i was just a pup. i was lost and alone in the wild. never knowing my mother, my father, or this strange new world around me. all i knew, well what my instincts knew, was to venture fourth...
...it was a cool summer night when i found myself in the deep thickets of a forest. other creatures were chirping and chattering as i passed through. it was raining buckets as the thunder rumbled. i was one scared puppy. a shockingly cold breeze rolled through, making the trees creek and my bones shiver. all i wanted was to get away from this frightning place. i was so young, so innocent, so lost and alone in the world. i knew nothing. and i had no one...
...late into that evening the storm was over. the clouds parted to show a bright full moon. the light was good. i could actually see through the darkness. i was still traveling along when i heard rustling behind me. i stopped. i looked back. nothing. i kept moving. but i picked up the pace a bit. when WHOOSH i felt a big gust of wind and could hear twigs snapping. i stopped and looked again. still nothing. a dreadful howl could be heard in the distance. so i ran. i ran and i ran until i came to a path...
...the path was long and narrow. but it seemed to lead to an opening. a way out of the woods perhaps? oh how i wanted to get out!! i bolted toward the opening. i was in a dead sprint but was stopped in my tracks as i noticed something up ahead. something dark. something big. i sat and stared at it for a very long time. i didn't know what it was but i new it could see me...
...it had two great big eyes. they were gleaming red. i just sat there still, wondering if it was even real, when it took a step forward. it howled and started toward me. i wanted to run but my paws wouldn't budge. it just kept coming. closer and closer. and i did nothing. closer. i couldn't move. closer. it was nearly in reach. closer...
...by now it was in front of me. a low growl was heard from the creature as it entered the moonlight. i could see what it was. it was another lupe. it was big. it was furry. and it looked mean. it stopped and stared at me once more. with it's eyes still gleaming red the lupe flashed it's teeth at me. i whimpered...
...the lupe circled around me and stopped in front of me again. it stopped, sat, and howled. i didn't know why it was doing this. but i didn't like it. i was scared. i watched as it stood up and walked by me, heading into the forest. i turned to look at it. it was standing there looking back at me. it raised it's head and howled once more. it looked at me again...
...this time, i knew what it wanted. it wanted me to follow. into the woods?!? no way was i going to do that. all i wanted was OUT of this dreadful place!! my little paws must've started to feel something because i could move them again. i stood up and bolted toward that opening one last time...
...my heart was pounding and i could hear thumping behind me. i looked back. the lupe was right on my tail. the next thing i knew the lupe was on top of me. there was nothing but claws and fangs. a big slash went across my eye but i still managed to wriggle free. i was in paws reach of my way out...
...a burst of moonlight and fresh air overwhelmed me as i stepped out into the opening. i ran to the top of a big hill and turned to look back at the forest. the lupe had stopped at the entrance. it howled and turned back into the darkness...
...relief washed over me as i took a look around. the moon was bigger and brighter than i had seen from inside my forest prison. the clear night sky was beautiful with it's glittering stars. fireflies danced across the meadow drawing me into their home. i thought 'what is this place?'. i took a step forward but was so weak that i stumbled and rolled down the hill. with a *plop* i hit the bottom. the fireflies surrounded me as i lifted my head. i could just barley make out a shadow breaking through the light of the insects. my head fell to the ground and i fell asleep...
...the next morning i awoke in the same spot. but i wasn't alone. there was something beside me. no it was someONE. it was a girl. at first it shocked me but as i sniffed around she seemed to be no threat. so i sat there, watching her as she slept. i wondered, 'what is this human doing all the way out here?'. she started to move. the girl awoke to find me looking at her. she just looked back...
...finally she rubbed her eyes and touched my head. she smiled and said, 'let's get you cleaned up.'. she started walking away from me but looked back as if she wanted me to follow. and i did?!? last night i ran from the last thing that wanted me to follow them and now i'm following her? i guess, with no threat, there was no reason to be afraid...
...we came to a nearby river where she layed me down and cleaned my wounds. she was very gentle. she was the first nice thing i had met. she got up and started to walk back. i followed. like i said she was the first and only nice thing i had met. i didn't want to lose that. what would i do if i got into trouble again? just wait around and hope that somthing good will come along? yeah, like that will happen. i didn't want to lose this girl. she was was the most beautiful thing in my eyes. she had stayed with me through the night, she had made me feel safe, and she had cleaned my wounds...
...she was like the mother i never had. and there was no way i was going to be without that ever again. i know what it's like to be alone. it's not fun. and it's scary. so i just followed her. she stopped and looked down at me. she looked surprised to see me. she must've thought that i was going to leave. but then, she smiled. i looked up and smiled back. i whined and she reached down. she scooped me up into her arms and said 'i think i'll call you Gonzo.' i wagged my tail vigorously and barked with glee. 'let's take you home.'. i snuggled under her chin and she took me to a little town called Neopia...
...we've been inseperable ever since. she's my owner. my friend. my world. my mother. and i love her. that's also where i met these guys...
