Hello,
guest. Welcome to blackcairn's Castle Battles Guide. Here you will find
information on blocks, castles, attack, defense (not yet), scoring, and more.
If you happen to come across Two red exclamation marks (!!), take note of what follows.
The aim of this game
(excuse the pun) is to knock your opponent's treasure, in this
case, Skarl's treasure, off the red and blue square.
The arrow keys moves the crosshairs. left is left, right is right, up is up, and down is down. The spacebar fires the cannonball.
After it is fired, the cannonball can still be moved by using the arrow keys. This can be used for fine-tuning.
Your first objective should be to unlock all of your castles before you try to get a high score.
!! You can type supercannonball to use the Super Cannonball on your next turn. This is not the same
as the Giant Cannonball (see "Flag" under "The Blocks") from knocking down the flag. This ovoid cannonball
can knock down your opponent's entire castle with one shot. This can only be used once per game.
The Blocks
The Blocks | The Castles | Scoring | Round 1 | Protection | Questions | Top
| Door/Drawbridge | This large brown block may or may not be found on the castle's front
wall.
The Door is practically useless, as of course, you do not want to hide
your treasure with only a door guarding it. However, it may be of good
use as a ramp if it is knocked down head-on. It may also stay up if it
transfers some of the force to the lintel. | *No Picture*
| | Wall | These flat blocks form the walls of your castle.
Walls are the basic protection units of your castle. Without these,
there would be no point in building castle. Parallel walls can take
much more force than perpendicular walls and shift much of the
cannonball's momentum to the rear walls of the castle. | | *No Picture* | | Tower/Jamb | These tall blocks form much of a turret. These blocks may also serve as jambs that are on either side of the door.
Towers can also take the brunt of the force of a cannonball and
transfer it to parallel walls. However, if they topple the wrong way,
it may take out some other structures. | | *No Picture* | | Lintel | This flat block lies over the door block.
This block is useless and is for show. Otherwise, it would look strange
having the door exposed on top. It may also help the door stay upright. | | *No Picture* | | Battlement | These blocks top the turrets.
These blocks are for show and usually include a flag on top as well.
They can cause turrets to topple as they make the top heavy. As they
also bounce, they can knock over other structures when a turret topples. | | *No Picture* | | Flag | Although flags are not real blocks, it seems pointless to create a
special section for them. They are the flags that rest atop battlements
or other areas on or around the castle.
The flags are practically useless unless you have one directly in front
of your treasure chest. As they do not have a flat face on which to
rest, like regular blocks, so they can deflect a cannon shot. However,
this is usually effective for one turn as the flag also is blown away
from the force from the cannonball.
!! There
is a special gold flag in each level. It is always in the back so you may
or may not see it on your enemy's side. If you knock over the gold flag,
you are awarded a Giant Cannonball the next turn, for one turn only. | | *No Picture* |
The Castles

There are seven castles in this game. There are two castles that you can
choose from when you first play. There are five more castles that you can
unlock for later use. In my opinion, the best castle would be Castle 5 as
it provides a formidable defense for either side of the battle.
| Castle 1 | The Blocks
| Review
|
| 3 Walls
4 Towers
2 Battlements
4 Flags
| This is a weak castle. Good for about several hits.
| | Castle 2 |
|
|
| 1 Door
9 Walls
4 Towers
2 Jambs
1 Lintel
4 Battlements
4 Flags
| This is the best starting castle as it has more horizontal blocks and more blocks overall.
| | Castle 3
|
|
|
| 1 Door
16 Walls
2 Towers
2 Jambs
1 Lintel
2 Battlements
4 Flags
| This
castle is great for two reasons. It has many blocks and the blocks are
interlocked! Yes, interlocked. The side walls are made of 3 blocks by 2 blocks and
the back wall is made of 2 blocks by 2 blocks.
| | Castle 4 |
|
|
| 1 Door
6 Walls
5 Towers
2 Jambs
1 Lintel
5 Battlements
4 Flags
| The walls aren't high enough, but there are many vertical blocks.
| | Castle 5 |
|
|
| 15 Walls
8 Towers
4 Battlements
4 Flags
| By far the best castle, this castle does have on weakness — the
blocks are all too close together. If it is hit in the right spot, one
turret can come crashing down through the entire castle, and your
blocks will be spread too far apart to be of any use. Take the risk,
Skarl usually isn't that good.
| | Castle 6 |
|
|
| 8 Walls
4 Towers
4 Battlements
4 Flags
| This
castle is good, but it does not have that many blocks. As the enemy never
does a ground attack with the cannon, you can be pretty safe with this
castle.
| | Castle 7 |
|
|
| 15 Walls
2 Battlements
4 Flags
| This
is practically useless. Once good shot and your entire defense is
gone. it may provide many blocks, but no clustering.
However, it may provide formidable backing for the treasure, although that does not present itself once walls is knocked over.

Round 1
The Blocks | The Castles | Scoring | Round 1 | Protection | Questions | Top
| | Level 1 |
|
| The Red Arrows denote where the treasure may be found.
This one is fairly simple. The treasure is always found right in the center for L1, R1.
As Skarl isn't as accurate in the first round as in later rounds, you can take a while
destroying his castle.
| | Level 2 |
|
| The treasure is usually found on the right front, although it can be in the middle and
left. Aim low, choose left right or center, fire!
It is most commonly found on the front right of the castle
| Level 3
|
|
| It is best that
you get the large cannonball if that is possible, so you can demolish
the much of the castle. The treasure is usually located inside, but
may be behind the castle. Knock out the front wall, aim low, lock in,
fire!
| Level 4
|
|
| This castle is a
nuisance, but you'll manage. Even though the treasure is in the center
(give or take a little to the left and right walls), it may be right
behind the door or all the way back behind the castle, or somewhere in
between.
Knock out the door, aim low, lock in, fire!
| Level 5
|
|
| This is the
hardest castle you'll have to face. If you fire incorrectly, you'll be
staying for a while. The treasure is usually
hidden within the castle. It may, rarely, be found behind the castle. Aim
near the middle of the front right tower to knock out the right wall so that
you can see inside when the view changes. Then, knock out the front
wall by hitting the middle block or where the middle block touches the
bottom block. Aim low, lock in, and fire!
| Level 6
|
|
| The treasure is
easy to see and is always visible. It may or may not be in the center.
However, this does not mean that you should start knocking down the
castle. You will get stuck in this level trying to hit the treasure
after you've buries it. Using full power will most inevitably lead to demolishing your opponent's castle.
| Level 7
|
|
| This one is
pretty easy as well and one shot can cause the entire wall to fall. You
can knock it out if you want to, but you might be staying longer than
is comfortable because by this time, your castle may already be lacking
in layering and ramps.
However, the castle can provide backing to the treasure, as it will not let
you push the treasure any further off the square than as far as the back
wall will allow you.
So aim low, lock in, fire repeatedly until you get it, careful not to allow the wall to topple over the treasure.
|
After you reach 1000 points your castle will be as good as new. However, I can't say the same for reaching 2000 or 3000 points.

Coming some time in the future!
All I can say for now is that an X is the best thing you can hope for
after you castle is literally leveled in the higher rounds.

1. How come I can't unlock new castles even though it says I unlocked them?
People have been having trouble unlocking castles since around April 15th, 2006. I haven't heard of anyone recently who has been able to unlock his or her castles. If you've unlocked them before, you shouldn't be affected unless you wipe your computer or your games.
2. The power meter just stopped one-fifth of the way!
Let go of all other buttons before you press the space bar.
OR
Keep holding down those buttons while you fire.
3. I just got a giant cannonball!
You must have knocked over the yellow flag.
I prefer to call it a gold flag as it isn't really yellow.
