So You Want To Be A "STOCK" Star!by Jane_409![]() You've heard the chatter about the Neopian Stock Market. Chances are, you've even stumbled upon the elusive Neodaq Index link once or twice. The sight of that page full of numbers, initials, and abbreviations can be daunting, and this is the point where many players simply click a different game link and move on. However, with a little bit of information and about 15,000 neopoints a day, you can easily become very wealthy in a relatively short period of time. The Neopian Stock Market is a game, to be sure. It's just one that takes a bit more patience than others, as it is a long term investment of your neopoints. Hopefully this will help you understand better how the Stock Market works. It's really not hard, and contrary to popular belief, it's really not that 'expensive' to get started. And there's lots of amazing petpages to help you along the way. Okay, let's get started! ![]() NEOPOINTS I'll begin with the neopoints. It's wise to purchase 1000 shares of stock a day, and every day. You should only buy stocks that cost 15 to 17 neopoints a day (You can't buy anything below 15, that's built into the game). For the sake of simplicity, let's just stick with the ones that only cost 15. And to be honest, I very rarely spend more than this myself. Soooo...... doing the math, that means you will need to spend 15k a day. Now, that's not really that hard, and you don't have to have a huge bank account either. When I just started, I didn't even touch my bank account. I made about 20k a day in games or shop sales, so that all I ever used. Remember, these points aren't really gone, they are invested in your stocks. You can resell them and get those points back anytime you wish. Just don't sell them at a loss! DIVERSIFY Try to buy a different stock each day. You want to get as many different stocks in your portfolio as possible. I have 37 different ones right now. You will surely get occasional repeats, but in the first month or so, try really hard to diversify. You will be able to build your shares after about a month and a half or so. ![]() THE WAITING GAME Be patient. You can make a million neopoints a month in as little as 6 months. But for the first 2 months it really pays to hold on to your shares, so your portfolio grows. The more shares you have of a particular stock, the higher your profit will be when it peaks and you go for the sell! WHAT IF MY STOCKS DROP BELOW 15? Don't panic! Really! All stocks drop, and they all go back up eventually. Just wait, it will go back up. At any given time you'll probably have several below 15, but you'll also likely have quite a few starting to show a profit. WHEN TO SELL This is tough. Most experienced stockers pick a specific sell point though. As a beginner, try to hold out for a rise to at least 30 np per share. That's 100% profit! (minus Nigel the Chia's commission of 20 neopoints, that is, lol!). Once you get a little more familiar with how the stocks rise, you'll want to increase your sell point to 45, or 60, or even higher. Right now my sell point is a minimum of 70. At that point, I may only sell half and wait for an even higher peak. It's entirely up to you. ![]() WHAT DO ALL THOSE NUMBERS MEAN? I'll leave this part to the experts. Check out this petpage: http://neopets.com/~dogooderneoneo. I couldn't possibly explain it better than that. MY RESULTS I started playing the Neodaq in January, or February of 2007. I used the great guides listed below, and started out with a sellpoint of 30. I quickly realized that when a stock finally rises, it goes much higher than that, so I upped my sell pretty rapidly. I wish I had started keeping track sooner, but between June 1, 2007 and November 5, 2007, I have sold 75,000 shares. I have a net profit of 5.1 million from stocks alone at this moment, and have 2.7 million still invested in stocks. SOME COOL LINKS THE NEOPIAN STOCK MARKET THIS PAGE Takes you to a list of all the bargain stocks. You can't buy anything below 15, that's built into the game. It is a great time-saver when first starting out, you'll see at a fast glance which stocks are at 15. THIS is a full list of all stocks. THIS PETPAGE is a great beginning point. This page tells you exactly how to use the neodaq, as well as also offering great advice for beginners. THIS PETPAGE is one of the very best stock guides in all of Neopia. This page will give you step-by-step instructions for beginners, as well as for the more experienced players. IN CONCLUSION Buy 1000 shares of a stock that is at 15np per share. If more than one are at that price, it's wise to choose the one you have the least of, to build up your portfolio. Some people even split, and buy 500 shares of 2 stocks. Whichever you prefer, there is no wrong way as long as the price is 15-17. Diversify! This means buy as many different stocks as you can. SKBD today, DROO tomorrow, .... you get it, right? Don't skip days whenever possible. Buy every day! The larger your portfolio, the higher your gain will be. I currently hold shares in 37 of the 43 stocks available. Remember, those neopoints are all still really yours! Set a sell point you are comfortable with. But never sell at a loss. Feel free to re-evaluate your sell point as you get more confident. Have fun, and watch your bank account grow! If you would like further information on something you've read here neomail Jane_409. She would be happy to answer any additional questions. |
