Hi there guest!

Welcome to zarablues mini guide to Neopets. Please note this site is currently under construction. I am currently seeking permission of guide owners and other linked-to sites so if you're reading this and own one, please neomail me and let me know if it's ok to link to you.

As an experienced player, I play and use the following bits of Neopets but that isn't to say you can't do your own thing. If you're a newbie (or have been away for a while) it can all be a bit daunting so I've tried to put this in a logical order with the most vital things at the top and the guides I've found helpful at the bottom. Essentially, this page is for me to keep all the links I use in one place but if it works well for you, wonderful!

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Well to be perfectly honest, that's up to you. You can run a shop, buy stocks and shares, play games, battle your pet against others, be involved in various Neopet plots, take part in a beauty contest… the list is nearly endless. However, to do anything at all you need to earn some neopoints, the currency here in Neopia…

but before you go start doing any of that:

THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO ARE
  1. Use your safety deposit box: here
  2. Get a bank account, collect your interest and deposit your points: here
  3. Check prices with the shop wizard: here

There are several reasons for this.

Anything in your safety deposit box is safe - ie, a wandering ghost or a panty thief can't steal it from you. Your inventory however is NOT a safe place to keep things. Check to see if you've got anything in your inventory here. If you have a miserable looking pet displayed, this is a good thing as it means your goodies are all safe and are locked away, are in your shop, are in your gallery or are equipped!

The same goes for your neopoints. If they are in the bank, a wandering ghost or the tax beast can't steal them. Also, the bank gives you interest each day and the more points you have in your account, the more interest you get.

I never buy or sell anything at all anywhere before checking what it's currently going for with the shop wizard. I also hit refresh a few times to make sure I can see the lowest price. There are lots of bargains to be had on Neopets but one of the most common mistakes is under or over pricing. You may well find that something which cost you 1000 np in an Neopian shop is being sold for 50 np by a user. Or vice versa. So just don't trust in those prices until you know what's a good deal and what isn't. You'll pretty quickly learn what to look out for.

At the start of each Neopets session I visit the bank and collect my interest. I then withdraw any points I think I'll need, take things out of my safety deposit box if I'm going to use them and off I go.

At the end of each session I check my inventory and move it all into my safety deposit box. I then visit the bank and deposit my points. You can make as many deposits to the bank as you want during your session, so any time I've got more than 1000 np I make a deposit - unless I'm going to use it that session.

FOOD

A hungry pet is prone to being sick, can't join in a battle (nb - petpets can always battle, click here to fight them and raise their levels) and won't be happy. As a good owner, I try to keep my pets at least 'not hungry' (check yours here) but if you're going to be away from a computer, it's a good idea to get them as full as possible! You can buy food from the many different shops all over Neopia, or you can use the shop wizard and get a bargain (you can easily buy some sausage omelette for 1 np for instance).

However, the following sites will give you food, either as an item or directly to the stomach of your pet and you can visit them up to every 24 hours:

  • Free Omelette - which you can eat, sell or keep
  • Free Jelly - which you can eat, sell or keep. As Jelly World is as 'secret' world, a direct link is blocked - just add the word jelly to the end of the url
  • 7Eleven - feed each pet a ricebowl
  • Islandberry Crunch - feed each pet some cereal (US residents only)
  • Snack Bar - feed each pet once a week (US residents only)
  • Soupkitchen - feed each pet daily if you have 3000 np or less (wherever you keep it!)
  • Coke Shop - failing all of the above freebies, you can pay 25 np per pet and fill them up with coke!

FREEBIES

These sites are all worth visiting. Some are daily, some are more frequent and some are less frequent. Some will give you something one day and nothing the next but don't be disheartened if it takes a while to get something!

More Frequent Sites

  • The Money Tree - visit as often as you like but be a good Neopian and donate too
  • The Merridel Rubbish Dump - visit this as often as possible. Excellent guide on this in the guide section.
  • Fairy Healing Springs - visit up to every half hour and click 'heal my pets' for one of the following; to be given potions (which you can keep, use or sell), have your pet's health restored or have them healed if they're sick (which could save you a small fortune on cures!)
  • Underwater Fishing - in brief, you can fish here with each of your pets as often as you want but I suggest reading a fishing guide like this one for more detail
  • Symol Hole - visit this hourly with any active pet that has a petpet
  • Cooking Pot - strictly speaking this is free as you can specify what you use from your inventory in your recipe. I'd suggest looking this up in one of the guides below though as there are limits on what you can combine. However, this includes petpets, neggs and all kinds of other things.

Daily Sites

  • Bank - collect your interest BEFORE you make any deposits or withdrawals. Before making a deposit, check to see if it will carry you up into a higher account as the interest rate will be better
  • Coltzan's Shrine - gives out a variety of things though not every time you visit
  • Fruit Machine - this will sometimes give you np, food and if you're really lucky, rare items
  • Tombola - pot luck whether you'll get anything but I often get np and food from here
  • Council Chambers - IF you've completed the Altdor plot, you can visit this site daily for small tokens of thanks from King Altador
  • King Snarl - tell King Snarl a joke. It doesn't have to make sense at all but any box you choose to leave blank, actually select 'leave blank'. Randomly gives you various prizes.
  • King Hagan - impart your knowledge to King Hagan. It doesn't have to make sense at all but any box you choose to leave blank, actually select 'leave blank'. Randomly gives you various prizes.
  • Advent Calendar - during December only, go here each day to pick up your daily advent treat!

Hidden Neopoints

The following sites will give you points, once per day each, for moving your mouse around the screen and clicking on hidden links (for a fuller list, see garmfay's guide here, tdenuyl's guide here or henriikka_'s guide here);

  • The Shop Of Offers - click on a slorg and get 50 np (or sometimes more)
  • Survey Shack - move your mouse around the picture, find the NP and click on it for 250 np
  • Mystery Artist - similar to above, move around until you find your cursor changing to a hand - 250 np
  • Speak Up - similar to above, move around until you find your cursor changing to a hand - 400 np
  • Enlightenment - similar to above, move around until you find your cursor changing to a hand - 250 np
  • Rhianan - similar to above, move around until you find your cursor changing to a hand - 250 np
  • Wonderbot - similar to above, move around until you find your cursor changing to a hand - 250 np
  • Essense - move your mouse around the picture, find the NP and click on it for 250 np
  • Green Again - move your mouse around the picture, find the NP and click on it for 250 np
  • Coming Soon - move your mouse around the picture, find the NP and click on it for 200 np
  • Yellowball - move your mouse around the picture, find the NP and click on it for np

Monthly Sites

  • Freebies - 2000 np and each pet is given some food

ONE TIME ONLY CLICKS

These sites will give you neopoints once and only once so read the instructions carefully or you could loose out!

NON-PAYING FREEBIE SITES

These sites are all worth visiting for different reasons, even though they won't give you neopoints. Some you'll need to visit to get secret avatars for the chat boards, others to keep you abreast of all things Neopian.

  • Neopian News - check this regularly so you know what's happening in Neopia and don't forget to look out for your pets day and any special things this might give you
  • Weather - is it raining, sunny, breezy, below freezing or above boiling?
  • Haiku - because they're fun
  • Island Mystic - have your fortune told
  • The Wishing Well - make a donation and a wish (yes, this does cost you np but you can donate as little or as much as you want and ask for any item in Neopia... just don't expect to win very often!)

RISKY SITES

If you're feeling lucky and a little adventurous, visit the following sites but be warned - your pets can be damaged by them.

  • Turmaculus - try waking him with your petpet every 24 hours. Highly detailed guide below.
  • The Snowager - he sleeps for one hour and is awake for the next eight. See the guides for his next due waking time and a guide!
  • The Lost Tomb - for those 'Indiana Jones' types

GAMES

One of the best ways to get neopoints is by playing games. There are literally hundreds of games to choose from but these are the ones I visit daily. Each game can be played as many times as you want each day, however, you can only send a score three times per game per day. I'd recommend playing the following ones but have a look around, consult game guides (several excellent ones listed below) and always remember to play the game of the day, which will reward double points. You can also add your favourite games to your favourites list.

I've separated them into Sponsored Games and Regular Games, with subsections in each.

Sponsored Games

Sponsored games ALL advertise a product or service and aren't subtle about it. However the great thing is they want you to look at their products and will give you reasonably high return for the time you spend playing them. If you find the marketing a little too tough to take, fair enough. Also, these games come and go fairly quickly so if you find a broken link, neomail me! Check out the guide section for links to sites which give trivia game answers etc for some quick and easy neopoints.

Quizzes

The following are all 'personality quizzes' . Strictly speaking, it doesn't matter what you answer and all of them are worth at least 200 np per play.

  • 7-up - how are you like Fido Dido?

The following are all 'knowledge quizzes' and test you on your knowledge, usually of the product, show or film they are advertising. My advice would be play them a couple of times before you send off your score to learn the answers, as they have limited numbers of questions OR check out one of the guides listed.

  • Disney Records - answer questions on a recent record release. A maximum score of 300 np per play, this can get me 900 np per day.
  • The Prince & Me - a quiz about the film. Get a maximum score of 300 np per play, 900 np per day.
  • Licca-Chan Trivia - answer questions about Licca-Chan. Earn the maximum 300 np per play, 900 np per day.
  • 13 going on 30 - a quiz about the film. Get a maximum score of 300 np per game. 900 np daily.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - general knowledge quiz. I average 644 np per play which is 1,932 np per day.
  • Hilary Duff: Matching - match facts and song titles. I average 614 np which is 1,842 np per day.
  • Race Against Charlotte - guess what animal or object Charlotte is spinning in her web - better points if you check out doni031459's guide here. I average 685 np per play which is 2,055 np per day.

Chance/Luck Games

  • Dion Robot Drop - drop a robot into one of several holes (note - this is not in English but you can pretty much guess the controls etc) - play until you're happy with your score!
  • Mirinda: Lucky Drop - drop a bottle top into one of several holes - same format as Dion Robot Drop but in English

Random Others

Regular Games

This is a list of the games I like playing for fun. They are all purely Neopets based and you can, with practice, get some nice high scores. For a better roundup, visit one of the guide websites listed below or take a look at today's top games.

  • Destructomatch - match two or more buildings (blocks) of the same colour and score enough points to reach the next level
  • Trouble at the National Neopian - great for accurate touch typists
  • Meepit Juice Break - feed these orphaned meepits with juice
  • Faerie Bubbles - aim your cannon and fire the bubbles into matching groups of 3
  • Deckswabber - wipe the ship deck, avoid the baddies, collect the treasure
  • Igloo Garage Sale - catch the good objects, avoid the bad ones
  • Snowmuncher - eat your way to the bottom of the screen, collecting as many gems as you can on the way, being careful not to get too full

HOW TO MAKE NEOPOINTS

As well as playing games, there are several other ways to make neopoints. I've listed the main ones here in brief.

  • Stockmarket - you can buy and sell stocks and shares in Neopia. You can't buy shares worth less than 15 np each. However, I never buy anything worth more than 17 np. Check your stocks and shares every day to see how well you're doing and sell high! See the guide section for sites with a LOT more detail on this. Only buy shares with np you can deal with loosing and remember it can take a long time before you see any profit.
  • Shops - you can run your own shop. This is quite complex but I recommend you get one if only to sell the things you don't want to use. REMEMBER to ALWAYS check item prices using the shop wizzard before you set your selling price to make sure you don't price too high or low. More detail available from one of the guides below. A good hint I follow is to look at the quest boards, see what people are asking for and try to make sure you stock those items if you can buy cheaper than you can sell. Also, remember that any of the Neopian shops will let you barter - it's only user shops that you pay the price you see. I reckon to pay between 1/2 (or 50%) and 2/3 (or 66%) of the asking price in any Neopian shop. The best place to start looking if you're new is the main high street.

QUESTS

There are several quest sites around Neopia where you can go if you feel like spending some neopoints for a prize in return. I don't know very much about them (as I rarely do them) but non-the-less, they're very popular. They can cost you lots of np but the rewards can sometimes be worth it. Don't feel bad about refusing a quest and don't worry if you fail one. Try again another day!

Before carrying out any quest, I highly recommend looking at one of the excellent guides listed below to help you decide if it will be worth the trouble. I also suggest leaving quests alone until you have a reasonable sum of np in the bank and that you, as with anything in Neopia, only spend np you are happy to loose.

Faerie Quests

Every so often as a complete random event you might be given a quest by a faerie. You can choose to either complete the request or refuse it - that is up to you entirely. You can check if you have one or not here. If you get one, you'll most likely be asked to find a random item. However, you aren't allowed to use the shop wizard whilst on a faerie quest so if you need to buy something for a quest, the board to post a message on for help is here. Much more detailed guides are available from the guides section.

I like, when I can, to give something back. If you have some time free why not check out the board and see if you can give someone else some quest help? Check the quest boards and then search for the item someone needs by using the shop wizard. The more specific you are, the better. Most people will need the seller's name, how much the item is being sold for and how many of that item the seller has. REMEMBER - you will use/need this board yourself so cruise it now and again, looking out for people who've had a low response to their message and help them out.

In addition to random fairy quests, you can choose to visit these three faeries and ask for a quest. Unlike random quests, they WILL allow you to use the shop wizzard whilst you do their tasks. I suggest reading up on them first, but should you wish to, you can go and see;

  • Illusen's Glade - visit Illusen if you feel like doing a job for a 'good' faerie
  • Jhudora's Cloud - visit Jhudora if you feel like doing a job for a 'bad' faerie
  • The Snow Faerie - visit Taelia if you feel like doing a job for a 'neutral' faerie

Other Quests

These are sometimes worth doing, sometimes not as with most quests. I strongly advise you to read one of the guides before doing any of them. Again, these are not random quests, you can go and ask for one of the following whenever you want to.

GUIDES

I know very little about very little here, and the few things I do know I've learned from the following sites, written by fellow Neopians. Please check them out. They are well known around Neopia and are excellent sources of information, not to mention the fact that they help so many of us every day for nothing but credit!
