to the OrangeGryphon NP Saver's Guide

Greetings! Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. My name is Heather, though sometimes known as Gryphon around Neopia. I'm a Neopian Millionaire and you can be too! I've created this page to help out all the Neopians who are having trouble saving up NP. On this page, you'll find links and tips to help you earn tons of NP.

First off, I feel obligated to say the following...
Do NOT create side accounts to try and earn more NP through daily stuff! It's against the rules of Neopets and isn't very profitable anyways. Yes, I was guilty of doing this before I grew up and realized just how unfair this was to other Neopians. After learning some computer programming and website design however, I realized that trying to earn more stuff like this was pretty much useless, as the site is designed to give everyone a fair chance, and more accounts playing the same game only lessens the odds for everybody.

Tip #1: You don't have to be a RSer.
(Restocker: Someone who buys exclusively from the main Neopets shops, not the shops of Neopians, and sells the items in their own shop for a higher price)
~Thank you desperately_yours for offering this definition!

Unless you've already got thousands of NP at your disposal, most of the stuff you get from the Neopians shops isn't going to be very big and/or profitable. And unless you're a veteran RSer, you probably don't have too many SW (Shop Wizard) prices memorized to help you decide what to buy while it's still in the shop. If you simply buy random items from the main shops with the thought that absolutely everything in the main shops is cheaper than the shops of Neopians, I've got some bad news for you. They're not. On a recent visit to the Plushie Palace (a main shop found in The Neopian Plaza), I saw a fresh stock of plushies that included 6 Blue Aisha Plushies with a starting price of 400np. (I say "starting price" because you can haggle a little bit at the main shops, of course.) The average lowest price for this plushie in the SW is about 75np.

Probably the only exception to this is the Igloo Garage Sale (found at the bottom of the list on the right under "Buy Big, Sell Cheap"). 99% of the stuff found at the Igloo is drastically cheaper than in the main shops or in Neopian shops (not the keyrings). You can only buy one thing per stocking at the Igloo, but you can make thousands of NP from that one item!

Tip #2: Don't spend what you don't have to.
There are lots of ways to spend too much NP. One of the big ones is food. Unless you're going for the Gourmet Club title, there isn't really any point in buying fancy and expensive food for your pets. I rarely feed anything but omelettes or fish from the Underwater Fishing spot to my pets. You might be thinking "Eww! That's gross!" But if your pet doesn't refuse to eat it, then they like it! It's all food to them and it keeps them away from the dreaded "Dying" status of hunger.

I don't know how many times I've had to reassure younger Neopians who are going on vacation or something that their pets will not die if they don't put them in the NeoLodge while they're away. I once left Neopets for about 6 months when I didn't have internet access. During this time, obviously my pets weren't in the NeoLodge and I did not give my account to anyone to watch over it. (Disclaimer: Never give your account to anyone for any reason, including to watch your pets while you're away.) If you have to leave Neopets for whatever reason, you can simply leave your account and pets the way they are. When you come back, depending on how long you were gone, your pets' hunger status may be as low as "Dying." But fear not, because Neopets can't die! You should feed them on a regular basis while playing because it's believed that your luck at certain games can be affected if your pets are this hungry, but they will always be waiting for you when you come back from being away. You do not have to put them in the NeoLodge, especially with all those fancy extras.

Another way to burn up your NP is a NeoHome. I used to have one myself, complete with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, entrance hall, and 2 gardens. The whole thing was in the drearily expensive Darigan Citadel and had tons of upgrades. Then I took a look at the whole thing one day and asked myself, "Just how much have I spent on furniture and how much will it cost me to get it the way I want?" The answer was simple: Too much! With that, I promptly emptied every room of all furniture and the gardens of their items. I put it all in my shop and started the demolishing of each room while I priced it all. After 2 days, I had it all demolished and I sold the land back to the bank for just over 3K. The furniture however, sold for a grand total of over 50K. I hadn't realized I'd spent that much and was delighted to have it back. So in short, if you have a NeoHome already, don't buy anything more for it until you've reached your savings goal. If you don't have a NeoHome yet, don't get one!

Tip #3: The bank is your friend.
The Neopian Bank is more than just a place to keep your NP safe from Sloth's Invasion Tax (an old random event that would steal a certain percentage of your NP on-hand). By using the bank wisely, you can almost watch the NP grow before your eyes. Once you've played some games, open an account at the bank with as much or as little as you have. Make it an even number like 100 or 5000. Make sure you select the right Account Type when opening it so you get the maximum interest rate possible. From that point on, whenever you have more than 5000np on-hand (shown in the top-right corner of your screen), deposit 5000np and don't touch it. You will rarely need more than 5000np to do anything if you're trying to save up. Make sure you adjust the interest rate as your account grows so you'll always get the most for your money and don't forget to collect that interest everyday! (It should be the first thing you do once you sign in and start doing your dailies.) Be careful not to deposit or withdraw NP before collecting your interest, or you'll lose your chance for that day.

Tip #4: Do your Dailies.
Most of us know there are lots of fun things to do around Neopia that you can only do once per day. Things that come to mind are probably the Fruit Machine, Free Omelette, and Tombola. But with Neopets growing so much, there are now tons of these Daily-Do's for us! On the right side of this page, you'll see the list of things I've compiled. I haven't included everything there is around Neopia, as I've found the items listed here to be the most profitable and/or easiest to do. I also haven't listed things like the Space Station's Lever of Doom or the Wheel of Misfortune, because they either cost more NP than they give, or just plain steal NP. (That darn Lever of Doom cost me a couple thousand NP before I got the stupid avie...)

Tip #5: Play games you're good at.
With all the games on Neopets, it's almost a guarantee that everyone who plays will find at least a handful of games that they're good at and can earn big NP from. Some of my favorites are Freaky Factory, Pyramids, and Kou-Jong. I know what you're thinking. "But those games take so long to play!" Yes, but these are just my favorites. On the left side of this screen, you'll see the list I've compiled of easy-to-play games that are quick to give NP. Many of them are sponsor games that don't take very long to play, but are reliable sources of NP. Try out each one to see which ones you'll want to mark as your favorites and remember that you're not limited to just your favorites each day.

Tip #6: Keep yourself motivated.
When you're trying to save up NP, it's a whole lot easier if you have a goal in mind. Maybe you're saving up so you can buy that awesome weapon from the Hidden Tower, which will give you the avie and an edge in the Battledome. Or perhaps you've always wanted your favorite pet to be painted Plushie. Whatever your reason for saving NP, make sure you keep your goal firmly in sight. One way to get excited about how much you've saved is to keep track of it with a counter. If you visit the message boards, every so often you'll see someone's siggy (signature text below their posted text) has something like the following: Mystery Island Paint Brush - 1.2/2.8 mil! This siggy would show that the person is saving up for a Mystery Island Paint Brush and that they have saved up 1,200,000 of the 2,800,000np needed to buy one at the TP (Trading Post). This is just one way to remind yourself why you play all those games and don't overspend on things you and your pets may want, but don't need. Another way is to get a graphic like the ones listed below and put it up in your lookup, shop, petpage, or wherever you want. (Click the graphics to open the petpage where there are many different counters to choose from.)

Faerie Paint Brush

Draik Trans Potion

Meowclops

Tip #7: Relax!
It's not like you have a time-limit to save up 50 million NP or anything. Remember... The best things in life are worth waiting for... and saving up is going to take some time.

Have fun while you're saving up. With playing all those games, you're bound to get an avie or two for getting high scores. And once you've got your goal, you can make an awesome petpage telling the story of how hard you worked for it and how great it felt once you got it!

Good luck and happy Neoping!
