The climate is sticky and humid- the air is heavy with the stench of rot and death. The stagnant swamp water, deep with filth, reflects no light- in fact, hardly any light shines though the canopy of blackened, dying trees, slime dripping off their branches, some vile mold creeping up their bark.

Dying moans and low wails seem to echo through the swamp, sending the exotic birds that perched upon the highest branches into flight, their feathers tainted with a toxic glow, their talons darkened with ebony growth.

This poisonous blight seems to have spread all over the swamp- on the trees, on the birds, floating atop the water, the very earth itself seems rich with decay.

The water reflects no light indeed, but something radiates from it, a sickly neon green glow escaping from the depths. In fact, the blight seems to spread out from the water- the source of the corruption that ravages nature.

Zul Aval was the name in the past- the "Plague Lands" is what this cursed place is called now. Legends would tell of green plants and healthy wildlife, but that all seems like a distant dream now. The only wildlife seen here are shades of their former selves, either beginning to be tainted by the swamp's toxic lifeblood, or so far gone they can hardly be considered living- shambling, undead monstrosities, dripping with fungi and ooze.

Yes, this land has changed. The local tribes dare not tread here now- the heart of the jungle, where this swamp thrives. They speak of it in whispers, almost dreading the very name of the place.

It was so different before he was awoken from his slumber.

And now that he had awoken, the jungle would never be the same again.
