We simply hope to spread the message that color is not a defining element of a Neopet and advocate "committing" to your Neopets, regardless of what color they are or will be down the road. Develop a basic plan
What activities will your pet participate in? Eating gormet foods? Completing jobs at the employment agency? Reading books? Competing in the beauty contest? Fighting in the battledome? Learning all the faerie abilities? Fishing? Finding a hobby or occupation for your pet is not only fun but it helps you define and personalize your pet, and expand it's stats and status beyond color. Some of these users are roleplayers but most of them are just looking to get to know their pets a little bit more with some creativity! Any Neopet can have a story, whether it has something to do with their favorite hobby (battling/beauty contest) or something completely unrelated. Maybe your kacheek had always dreamed of being a poogle racer and would sneak into the tracks and would get expelled when his tail would poke out of the costume? Maybe the story involves magical faeries or royal banquets, a traveling circus or a quest to find oneself or ones family. Let your creativity go wild, or start out simply and expand when the inspiration strikes. Maybe your Neopet is aggressive and sarcastic, maybe it tries really hard to be funny but fails, maybe it's just lazy or passionate or maybe even fits perfectly into a classic steriotype. One of the most fun ways to get to know your pet and connect with other Neopians is to form relationships between your pets! Friends, enemies, allies, shipmates, relatives... the possibilities are endless! You don't have to roleplay but sometimes working out these little relationships between pets can be alot of fun for the owners and can help define an identity for both of your pets! Keeping or repainting your Neopet into a primary color has some amazing benefits that many users don't even think of and can often help guide the direction that other users take to view and appriciate your Neopet more than if it were painted. First and foremost, having an primary colored pet can save millions of Neopoints. Perhaps you already have millions you could spend on a paintbrush, perhaps not, but either way the 2,300,000 neopoints that you may have spent on a plushie paintbrush could be invested into a completely different angle of the site! Paint pets can be alot of fun, but there are other aspects of the site to set goals in, to work for and to have a great time with. Battling, for example, can easy drain neopoints as paintbrushes do but is something you can participate with your pet in, continually improve upon, and use to interact with other users. You could also direct those Neopoints into an impressive gallery (even a paintbrush gallery!) which can be just as rewarding as a freshly painted Neopet. Besides the financial benefits, theres an equally important plus side that most people neglect to notice. If you have a baby Neopet, the color it is painted as well as the fact that it is painted can draw attention away from other aspects of the pet. Perhaps you really love completing jobs with your pet or your pet has an amazing personality or story? One of the most common reasons for transforming Neopets into "rare" or unsual colors is the desire for recognition or status. There are a few reasons that this sort of logic is flawed, not only for the Neopet but also for the sake of representing success or riches. Firstly, when pets are viewed as status symbols or "badges" for a userlookup it cheapens the 'magic' that so many users enjoy about the site. It limits the owner from half of the fun of the game that comes with personalizing and identifying with their Neopets. When pets are viewed in terms of rarity, the pets themselves often suffer as well. So often has a Neopet been tossed into the Neopian Pound when something more "rare," expensive, or new comes along. It boils down to basic ethics, why throw away a pet to adopt another when that same pet could easily have been morphed or repainted? Thirdly, when it comes to being a "status symbol" a painted pet is actually a poor demonstration of wealth or accomplishment. Expensive paintbrushes such as maraquan, island, and faerie can be randomly "zapped" using the Secret Laboratory Ray and almost every paintbrush is availible through the coveted Fountain Faerie Quest. Also, with the "adoption" market as expansive as it is, the status value of paint colors has been remarkably diminished. Instead of worrying about the color or rarity of your poor Neopet, why not try these options for letting other users see your successes in the game?
