You came to chat? Oh, how nice! I can definitely take a break from this painting; when I stop noticing people around me, I really ought to stop! Just give me a moment to clean off these brushes.

STORY

As you probably guessed, I started out as a green Kougra. My oh-so-wonderful name does come from Fiery; she was trying to name me something close to "padfoot", for some reason. Sometimes I really hate the naming system we have here in Neopia; I really don't see why it matters if a few pets have the same name.

Anyways, that might have affected my personality. I've always been really...complacent. I guess when you start off with a name full of underscores, you're a little less concerned about what else the world is gonna give you. So I was never very picky about...well, anything!

In fact, when Fiery told me and my siblings we could get painted relatively soon, I had no idea what color I wanted. I mean, I wasn't like most other pets- I never bothered imagining myself a different color.

So I told Fiery I'd get back to her, but then, Fiery's friend Tiger found a Rainbow Paintbrush. But none of her pets wanted to be rainbow, so she offered it to our family. Trouble was, none of my siblings wanted to be that color, either!

But something about that paint brush spoke to me. I'd never considered being rainbow before, but now that I saw the paint on the brush tips, I started thinking about it. The rainbow was...well, it was beautiful, vibrant, full of variety and possibility.

I know, I know, that's a lot to get from a color, and it seems kind of...dorky even to me while I'm writing it. But it's how I felt, so I'm writing it down anyways.

So, I had my color, and for the first time, I felt really special- not that I ever felt like I was worthless, I mean, but I felt like I had my own personality, like I was getting a sense of who I was.

One day, Fiery and I went out shopping for a birthday present for my little sister. We went into the art gallery, and even though I was supposed to be looking for a gift, I got so distracted by the pictures themselves- not the subjects of the pictures, but the artistry. For the first time, I really noticed that there was a purpose in every little part of the pictures; the colors evoked mood, outlines hinted at shading and thickness, textures are implied with the side-stroke of a pencil, while mountains are made out of blocks of paint...

I was enthralled. Fiery practically had to drag me out of the store by my tail, but even then, I couldn't stop thinking about the art. Pretty soon, I started getting ideas of my own. I...proprieted a sketchbook from Fiery, and started drawing like mad. But there're things you can't do with pencils, and I badly wanted the vibrancy of paints.

So when Christmas came a few months later, my favorite presents were my new set of oil paints, an easel, and my very own artist's smock, specially made for us quadrupeds!

From then on, I've been practicing to become a really good artist! My dream is to have a painting in the art gallery someday- and I think I'm good enough it just might be possible!

LIKES & DISLIKES

Obviously, I love painting. I like other art, too, like drawing and scultpting, but paints are the best thing to work with. They're also pretty complicated, so I have to do a lot of reading, and more importantly, get a lot of practice! But the results are definitely worth it- anything worth knowing takes time to master.

Okay, maybe being painted rainbow has something to do with it, but I like rainbow-colored things. Green's my favorite color, of course, but when it's done right, the spectrum of colors is really beautiful.

I do love gardens, and not just because they often have some rainbow-shaded flower! They make such great painting spots, even if you're not painting the flowers. And when a garden has a water feature? That makes it even better. One thing I don't like about living on Mystery Island is that we can't really grow a good flower garden, although there's plenty of water by the beach!

Call me finicky, but I don't like messes. I'm a bit of a neat-freak, I guess, although I'm not stuck up at all about paint spills! But slime from my Nedler's tentacles, or grease left on the stove, or mud in the carpet...I feel like I have to clean it up right away, if nobody else is going to take over.

I also don't much like speaking in front of others. You can probably figure out why, I mean, I say a lot of things wrong the first time I try to say them, I've got about two transitions I use...I just feel awkward when I'm talking to a lot of strangers. Fiery says a lot of people are like that, though, so I shouldn't feel bad about it.

FAMILY

My human fiery_dragon300- we call her "Fiery" for short. She's basically a mom to me and my siblings, although we're pretty much able to look after ourselves. Still, it's nice to have somebody older to talk to, other than my brothers, I mean. She likes writing and reading a lot, and Draiks, too- I see her drawing them pretty often. I've always wondered why one of my siblings isn't a Draik. Maybe beacuse Fiery can turn into a fire Draik anytime she wants to? I guess that would be better than just having a pet Draik!

Howler is my older brother, and the oldest pet in our family. He's a Darigan-Tyrannian hybrid, which sounds scary to a lot of people. But Howler was the first Lupe I ever saw, so it was actually weird to me that all Lupes didn't look like him! Anyways, he's an awesome brother, always there to talk when I need advice. It is a little annoying when he points out that stars in my nighttime paintings aren't "in the right spots", but he always compliments my art afterward, so it's okay.

My brother Orange_Mane...hmm. Well, he started off as a yellow Tonu, and even back then, he was mean. OM was- and still is, really- a bully, and he's never had a nice word to say to anybody, not even Fiery, who I think should've booted him out a long time ago. And as if he wasn't bad enough as a "normal" Tonu- he got into potion-making, and figured out how to brew his own transmogrification potion. Who would do that? Much less drink the end result? So now OM's a mutant, which I guess is what he's always wanted. He's a slob, he's lazy, and he doesn't bother thinking about anything besides his stupid potions.

Draco is my little sister; she used to be a shy, blue Zafara, but during a misadventure at sea with Howler, she turned into a confident, Island Zafara with a treasure-sense, which means she has an instinct for buried treasure. So now, instead of staying at home all the time, she goes out "on commision" with treasure-seekers, and helps them find old pirate gold and stuff. She always comes back with really cool stories, and I think even though the two of us don't see each other that often, we're the closest siblings in the family. After all, we both had to put up with the brunt of OM's attitude before he locked himself in his potions lab.

FRIENDS

Nemo and I have been friends for a long, long time. The first time he and his human, Tiger, came over to visit, he went to take a walk on the beach, and I...sort of followed him. He seemed really cool to me, like Howler, only more mysterious; he has a scar across one eye, and he usually wears a sheild and carries a staff. He didn't chase me off, just let me follow him, but the next day, he invited me to come with him walking, and this time, we talked. Nemo can be really somber, but he's not the gruff, silent pet most people think he is.

Gold Clashing, on the other hand, is the Lupe to go to if you want to have fun! Sometimes he, Nemo's brother Riverclash and I will get together and play Yooyuball, although it turns into a very dangerous game around those two. GC's definitely good for having a laugh with, though-I remember when he was training his Anubis, Kibbles, to fetch by saying "fajita". He's an odd Mallard, that's for sure.

This is Kraken, my Nedler. I'd always wanted a faerie Tasu, but, well...things don't always work out the way you want them. I didn't like Kraken at first- he was messy, and he kept trying to mess with my paintings, which scared me more than anything else. And he wasn't a faerie Tasu.

But then...something strange happened. I found out he had a special talent, and...well, I don't want to ruin the story.

That's right, the story! My owner's friend Tiger wrote a story for the Neopian Times about me and Kraken called The Nedler Painting, so if you'd like to know what Kraken's special talent is, take a look!

MY HOME

My family lives on Mystery Island, between the jungles and the beaches! It's a really nice place to live, usually. Sometimes I wouldn't mind some seasonal changes, but usually we just go visit one of our friends when that urge comes up, and we beach pets get cold pretty easy

There's always a lot to do here- swimming, surfing, playing on the beach, and even more to discover. You can hike up the volcanoes, take classes from Master Ryshu, and wander through the jungle- as long as you can find your way out again!
