Pound Guide

by g0ddezzz (Rachel)

This page is a compilation of TNT's Pound Rules, common sense and my personal views. It's some kind of a beginner pound guide since I made this when the pound reopened and everything was kinda new. This is the longer version of the pound guide. The information here is more complete and I will be updating this as well as the short version guide. Click the banner below to get to the short version.

If you have anything to add, or point out something wrong with my petpage, then neomail me.
Best viewed in Firefox.

If you are tired of people asking if your pet is UFT when it is clearly not, I've made some ugly banners here. xD

Some comments about my page. xD

All About The Pound

FAQs

1. Where is the pound and when did it reopen?

The pound is located
here and it was opened around the last week of April.

Read the Pound FAQs

2. Does the Quick Adopt Link (QAL) still work?

No. If you want to be quick in adopting, type the name of the pet in the pound's search bar and keep refreshing until the pet comes up. Once it does, quickly click adopt and press enter once.

3. How much NP does it cost to adopt a pet?

There is a calculator on Sunnyneo's page.

4. How often can you pound a pet?

You can pound a pet once a day.

5. Can you borrow pets?

Yes, you can borrow pets for the avatar.

6. Can you trade pets?

TNT allows trading of pets now if it is a 1:1 trade. Meaning, you can only trade 1 neopet for 1 neopet. You can't add NP, items or anything else to the trade. More information about pet trading below.

7. I've heard that petpage applications were not allowed anymore. Is that true?

Owners are not allowed to request petpage applications for their pets. However, you can still make one if you like.

8. I was pound surfing and I adopted a really cool pet! Someone neomailed me and said I intercepted a transfer. Do I need to give the pet back?

No, you don't have to. When a pet goes to the pound, it's fair game for everyone. Although, it would be nice if you could give it back.

9. What kind of pets can accounts under 4 months adopt?

Accounts under 4 months can adopt basic colored pets like blue, pink, speckled, etc. Pets should also be level 2 and under. For a complete list of pets, go to WCAPPT. That list also applies when transferring to an account under 4 months.

9a. Can I transfer out pets even if I'm not 4 months yet?

Yes you can transfer out pets but not all. You can only transfer out pets that you can also adopt. Meaning, you have to go back to the list (WCAPPT). The pets that you are able to adopt are the ones you can transfer out or "Send".

10. Do the clothes go with the pet when you pound?

If you pound the pet, the clothes will not go with him =( If you want the clothes to go with the pet, use the Transfer option instead. Only the current paint job clothes can go with him though. So if you have a Desert pet with additional Halloween clothes, only the Desert clothes will go with him. Background and accessories are also included. NC mall items are not.

If your pet is Unconverted and you pound him, the clothes will stay with him.

11. If I have an Unconverted pet and I want to paint him or zap him with the lab, will he remain Unconverted?

Unfortunately, the pet will automatically be converted if you paint or zap him.

12. Is this a fair trade?

Frankly, I'm tired of these questions. If you want the pet, then that's great. If you don't like the pet, don't trade. Jeez.

13. If someone tries to "send" me a pet but I've already used my "receive" option, will that person waste a "send" option?

Nope, the person can't send the pet so he doesn't waste anything.

14. If someone "sends" me a pet but I rejected it, will he waste a "send" option?

Yes, he will waste the "send" option for the month so be sure the trade is finalized before transferring pets.

15. I was trading with someone via the pound because we couldn't wait and I missed the pet. Do I need to give her my pet to complete the trade?

The pound is free for all so I highly suggest you don't trade using that. According to the latest editorial, TNT says to work it out among yourselves. Meaning, you and the other trader will have to talk about whether you still need to pound your pet or not. If you don't pound your pet though, the other person may report you, but TNT will do nothing about it. In other words, you are safe and no, you don't have to give her the pet. But what does your conscience say?

Transfers

You can see that TNT has added a third door in the middle - Transfer. This is the safest method if you want to trade your pets or move them to a side account. I suggest you use this option to move pets that you can't afford to lose. Even if you are super fast in using the pound, there is still a small amount of chance that a pound sitter/AA will get your pet!

You get 1 transfer per month, which means that you have 1 send and 1 receive per calendar month.

If you sent a pet on May 31, you will be able to send another one on June 1.

Each pet has a "resting" time before transfers - 1 calendar day. For example, if you are lending out Pet A and you used your Send option to transfer it to another person, the pet can only be returned to you 1 day after if the other person will use their Send option.

Exchange

There is now a fool-proof way to trade pets as of October 2, 2008. It was stated in the news that there would be an exchange function.

Basically, you can now exchange your pets at the same time so you wouldn't have to worry about going first and have the person not complete the trade. Here's a step by step explanation on how to use this. I was trading a custom royal (already painted, and is now a royal girl kougra) for her pea chia.

Caution: There's a glitch with clothes not being included when you use Exchange so be careful with this. I guess TNT is still fixing the bugs.

First off, you still have to click the middle door, which is the transfer option.

A pop-up comes up and asks you to type in the username you are transferring the pet to. Let's call her Person A. Go ahead and type in the name and click OK.

You will then be asked to confirm the transfer. When you get to the page, click the link below, the one I've encircled.

Now, you get to choose which of PersonA's pets you want. Once you are sure, click the 'Exchange Neopets' button.

There will be a confirmation once you've sent the pet.

Once the person has accepted the trade, this page will now show up and the pet you want will now be your active pet. =) Good trade, if I do say so myself. =P

This is counted as your one User-to-User transfer for that month. If accepted, it will also count as the other person's User-to-User transfer for the month.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that you don't have much control over the account you want the pet to be in. If the pet person A wants is in your side account, then your side account will be the place where Person A's pet will go to. You will receive the pet on the account you're sending your pet from.

TNT has petpages transfered with the Exchange option so make sure to erase your petpage and petlookup before transfering. (Credit: mybestfriendgina )

Abbreviations

Here are some abbreviations that can be found in the Neopian Pound boards.

UFT = Up For Trade
UFA = Up For Adoption
WN = Well Named
DN = Decently Named
RW = Real Word
RL = Real Life
RN = Real Name
NTY = No Thank You
UC = Unconverted
C/CON = Converted
BD = Battledome
LE = Limited Edition
HTT = Hard To Trade
BN = Badly Named
PN = Poorly Named
RB = Royal Boy
RG = Royal Girl
WC = With Clothes/Casing OTB = Offer to Beat

1. UFT & UFA

Since TNT approved of trading of pets, almost everyone has been trading pets instead of adopting out their pets. On the boards, about 99% of the posts are about people putting their pets UFT. You can see an occasional UFA board or adoption agencies though.

If you think trading is wrong, I would advice you not to announce it on the Neopian Pound boards because you will most likely get flamed. I'm not stopping you though if you really want to =)

I think people prefer to trade their pets because they want to get something in exchange for the pets they earned. They also want to find their dream pets. Everyone has their own personal opinions so leave them be.

2. WN

For most people, a well named pet has a name format of Xxxxx. Meaning, the first letter is capitalized and doesn't have any underscores or numbers in them. It has to be pronounceable too.

Example: Dracovith

If people posted xxx###xx__x, it means that the pet's name has numbers and underscores in them.
Example, tjn543ss__r.

3. RW & RL/RN

The latest craze seem to be real word or real life names. Real word names would refer to Love, Hate, Met, Viscoid, etc. There is a shortage of these names which led people to create names that have multiple prefixes or suffixes in them like Planningly or Detachingness or whatever lol.

Real name/Real life names usually refer to real people's names like Rachel, Ana, Jeff, etc.

4. NTY

You're probably going to be getting a lot of "NTY" from owners and it means No Thank You to your offer. If your offer is good enough though, you just might get a "Yes" from them.

If you had a pet 'jislk03887789 the Blue Kau' and you want to trade it for a draik maybe, then expect to get hundreds of NTY but don't fret, you actually have a .000001% chance of someone saying YES to your offer. Or you could have a 3% chance of getting one if you surf the pound. Maybe.

If you want a higher chance of getting a YES from the owner, then make sure you have a fair offer. Most people base their decision on the cost of the paint brush needed for the pet color. I think it really depends on the personal preference of the person. So if you want to offer on a well named Pirate Poogle, an offer of a bad named Checkered Kau would probably not get you anywhere unless a Checkered Kau is their dream pet. Hey, it could happen! =P

5. UC & C

Unconverted pets are pets that haven't been converted yet. (duh) If you don't know whether your pet has been converted or not, you can check out Sunnyneo.

Unconverted

Converted

Or you can go to this link: http://www.neopets.com/convert_pet.phtml?pet_name=PetName to see if you can still convert your pet. (Credit: elocinniki)
Warning! Do not click convert if you don't want to convert your pet!!!

People seem to prefer UC pets because they like the old artwork better. Most people want to trade their UC pets for other UC pets. But again, it depends upon the personal preference of the person trading so you can still try to offer your lovely pet.

From the Editorial:
Neopets featuring old art will NOT be automatically converted if they are transferred. However, once they are in the hands of their new owner, that player will have the option of permanently converting them. So if you do not want your Neopet to be converted we suggest being careful with the lending out of an unconverted Neopet unless you're willing to risk this happening. Once a Neopet is converted it cannot be changed back, even if it is someone else who did it.

6. Custom

When a person offers a Custom Royal, it means that they will paint any pet for you with their royal paint brush. You can choose the name, species and gender. If you want to create a new pet so you can choose the name, you will have to wait 7 days so that the pet will be old enough to pound or transfer.

You may receive custom royal, baby, darigan, or even a price cap.
Example: Custom 3 million. Check the trading post Paint Brush Prices. Custom 3m can include Faerie, Royal, Darigan, Baby, Fire, Halloween, etc. You can choose any of those colors

If someone has a Custom Royal UFT, be sure the pet your offering is worth more than a Royal PB, unless it has something special about it like BD stats or super nice name. I mean, if you're going to offer a Halloween Kougra for that, the owner might as well buy a Halloween PB and still have lots left over. K? =/

You might also see "Create-a-draik/krawk" offers. Since draiks and krawks are limited edition pets, you can't create them anymore. You can only get them through morphing potions, transmogrification potions, draik eggs and the krawk petpet. You need to spend around 6M to get one yourself. So when someone offers a "Create-a-draik/krawk", it means that they will either morph a pet you currently have into a draik/krawk or create another pet with your choice of name and gender and morph it.

FFQ
FFQ = Fountain Faerie Quest If a person offers an FFQ, it means they will paint any color that can be painted with it. It can include Pea Chia, Maraquan, etc.

7. Battledome Pets

Battledome pets have high stats. An example would be my pet kougra0718neo. His str + def + hp = 710, and he is evenly trained.

Lvl : 103
Str : 209
Def : 199
Mov : 64
Hp : 302 / 302

I spent about 15 million training him according to Sunnyneo's training calculator. I didn't even know I spent that much! =P I've gotten offers of krawks and draiks for him despite his bad name because he is just that pwnful.

I've seen lab rats being advertised as BD pets and that's fine, really. But people do prefer evenly trained pets so they will be trainable.

Example of a lab rat:

Level: 1
Hit Points: 104 / 109
Strength: EXCELLENT (46)
Defence: heavy
Movement: EXCELLENT (53)

Check out this guide about BD stuff.

Tips

board etiquette

1. Be nice. Even if someone offered you a Yellow Jubjub for your Royal Shoyru, a simple "NTY" would suffice. Don't say, "ONG!1 n00b go away!1!". Everyone was a newbie once. You can direct newbies to my page *wink*

2. Read the first post of the person you're looking to trade with. It is usually very informative. They could state what kind of offers they are looking at or if they would allow neomails. If they say, "No neomails", then jeez, don't neomail them. If you really really have to, say something on the boards first.

3. If YOU are the one making the board, be sure to state what you're looking for in the first post. That would save everyone a lot of time. If you don't know what you're looking for though, just say you're looking at all offers.

4. If you have finalized a trade with someone and have set next month as your transfer time, be sure to inform them if ever you've changed your mind. Ideally, you shouldn't even have been looking for more offers or even changed your mind , since the deal was already finalized. o_o I've had someone back out of a deal and didn't even inform me. I neomailed her to see if we were still trading. She told me she changed her mind and didn't have time to neomail me. And then I found out that she deleted me as her neofriend and I see her new pet on her account. o_o So she didn't have time to neomail me but she had time to trade with someone and delete me as NF? Liar!

5. Reply. If someone neomails you and asks whether she can have her pet back, please reply. Even if it's a "No". I know you're not obliged to reply, but show some courtesy.

6. If you get an "NTY" on your lousy offer, don't insult the person's pet and say, "Your pet smells bad, I don't like it anymore!

7. Don't beg.
8. Don't scam.
9. Don't lie.

What not to post

Ok, so most of the time I'm a nice person on the boards but there are just some times when I'm annoyed by some posts on the neoboards.

1. People who talk so strongly about something and yet, they're giving out the wrong information! Please, just direct people to the guide if you're in doubt =)

2. "Nobody wants my pets -cry-" boards
Well, if you didn't want your pet, how could you expect others to want it themselves? =p

3. "Is this fair?
Haha, I've already posted how I feel about this in the FAQ.

4. People who don't take "No" for an answer. Honestly, no means no.

5. People who post that an RW pet is UFT and yet, they only post the format Xxxxx. I mean, what is the point of advertising it as RW when you don't even post the word?

6. Outrageous offers
-"Trading 'h29shxgha the Blue Draik'. Only looking for well-named draiks"
I mean, seriously, who would do that?

7. "What if my pet was UFT? But he's really not. I'm just curious.
What is the point of these boards if not to brag?

How to Avoid Scams

1. Before you trade with someone, make sure that the neopet they are trading is actually theirs! I've heard of people offering neopets that aren't even theirs. A quick way to check would be to tell the person to send a neomail from the account the neopet is on.

2. Check someone's account first before trading. If it looks like a newbie account or something, then you have to be careful. A good way to see who transfers a pet first is to see whose account is more trustworthy. It would be better if the less trustworthy account pounds/transfers first.

Another way to ensure a safe trade would be to make a public board about it. Make a title, "Trade witnesses needed", on the boards so that other people can see whether the other person completed the end of their bargain.

3. Be careful when using the normal pounding method. Once a pet is in the pound, it will be up for grabs! The person who intercepts a trade is in no way obligated to give your pet back. However, if you beg and if they're nice, they might actually give your pet back.

Be sure to actually have proof that you owned the pet though. It is always useful to take screenies before you trade and don't delete your neomails yet. Keep it until the trade is finalized. It might serve as proof if the other person scams you.

4. If you were the pound sitter who got the pet from the pound though, and you get a neomail saying that you've intercepted a trade, ask for proof! There is a new scam where someone neomails you and tells you that the pet was theirs. But in reality, they just saw the pet pass by in the pound and are trying to deceive you into thinking that the pet was theirs. But even if they have proof, you don't really have to give it back. If you're a good person, you would =)

5. Another type of proof that you can present or ask for is a screenie or a list of books that your pet has read. Only the owner of the neopet can view this. (Credit: elocinniki)

Go to this link: http://www.neopets.com/books_read.phtml?pet_name=PetName

If YOU are the current owner of the pet, it would look like this:

If you are not, it would look like this:

6. If you got a pet from the pound and wonder if you've intercepted a trade, don't make a board about it! It's very easy for people to lie and say the was theirs. Instead, wait for a neomail from the owner. If no one neomails you, then it probably means they were really pounding the pet and not trading. If you do get a neomail, ask for proof and decide whether or not you'd want to give the pet back or not. (Credit: raichu288)

7. There's a new scam involving the Transfer option. Person A tells you that they've already transferred the pet to your account but you haven't received it yet. Still, they insist that they have sent it and blames it on a glitch. Then, they insist you complete the end of your bargain or else they will report you. Be wary of this. This person could just be sending the pet to her side account and using the glitch excuse. Do not send over your pet if you haven't actually received anything. Although, it really may have been a glitch. Let TNT resolve it.

Sometimes, you also won't get an event when the person sends the pet to you. So check this link if the person says he already sent it and you haven't gotten an event.

8. If you want to report someone for scamming, click HERE

Warning

There's a code you can put on your pet lookup that changes the picture of your pet. So if you wanted to, you can make your pet look Unconverted when it is really not. This can be a way for scammers to make people believe their pet is UC and worth much more. Obviously, I can't link you to an example as you can easily get the code that way and I'm not sure if it's allowed yet. I have some screenies to show though.

There's super easy way to know whether the pet lookup is real or if it's just an image placed over the pet. You just have to right click over the pet.

This is what a normal lookup would look like when you right click over it:

And below is what would come up when there's another image over the original. Well, it's pretty clear here because of the background and stuff but you get the idea. I'm referring to the white thing that pops up when you right click.

I don't know if the same thing pops up in other computers but the difference is pretty clear. =)

How to make a successful trade

1. Use the transfer option. TNT can keep track of trade easier that way just in case you get scammed.

2. If you have to use the pound (impatient much? =P), then have a talk with the person you are trading with. Tell them of the risks involved. If one person loses a pet, the other one still has to trade. Make this agreement before you trade.

3. Agree on a pounding time. Example, 12:53:30 (hour:minute:seconds) NST. One person pounds first and the other person goes next.

4. When you are trading, make sure you haven't pounded a pet for the day or used your transfer for the month.

5. Screenies are your friend. Take them.

6. Lutaris run away when you pound them, k? So don't do that.

7. When you pound Ice Boris, they turn blue. (?)

Lost a pet?

Lost a pet while trying to trade via the pound? Here are a few steps which can help you.

1. Neomail the person who got your pet and explain the situation. Present your proof of ownership. Do not demand the person to give your pet back. Srsly.

2. Hope they give you the pet back

3. Make a board saying you were scammed!

4. Cry

Ok, maybe you can skip 3 and 4. =P
