Why apply?
This is my fifth adoption whith the draik project. Why, you ask, am I still here? Thoves. That is my answer. I love the people and the excitement of the event, but that's not the reason I'm here. I could simply chat and still be able to meet those people. But I am here to apply for Thoves, in all his glory. I created a character that I loved, but had no pet to solidify it, until Thoves. The character has changed with him, and would not be the same with another pet. I currently do not have the means to create a draik to fit the character by myself. Thoves is my opportunity, presented grandly and generously by TDP.

Why Thoves?
The main reason I am applying for Thoves is his name. It's very sophisticated, and flows easily. It reminds me of what a butler would be named (which added a nice tidbit to his character!). Names are very important to me; they are what determines my character for the pet.

Why a draik?
I've always found draiks to be the most inspiring Neopets. Because writing and drawing for my neopets is such a huge part of what I do on Neo, this is immensely inportant to me. I feel that draiks are so much fun for me to work with in the art area because there are so many ways they can be interpreted. A jubjub, for example, will always be a pompom with feet. A draik, however, has seemingly endless possibilities, like a dragon from a fairytale. I don't feel limited in my creativity; I can draw draiks in any way I'd like. I draw my draik, Paroa, in an almost traditional dragon way, though far from reptilian, while I draw Thoves as long and snake-like, with small wings. As for writing, it's easy for me to pull the characters of draiks into another world, vastly different from Neopia - Thoves, in fact, is Grecian. As much as I love my gnorbus, their characters are based in the world of Neopia. While they are not boring, I enjoy having a world of my own creation to retreat to (not that I created Greece either, but it's nice to have a change).

Why mutant?
In the case that I should be chosen to adopt Thoves, I would elect to paint him mutant. I'd like to stop and thank TDP for the wonderful opportunity to paint Thoves my dream color. My dream color for a draik (besides gold, which I have recently achieved) is mutant. It's very fitting for the third part of Thoves's character (described in the right column), and it's something that I've admired from afar for a long time. I love the intricate design and color scheme of the pet, and I think it is unique from other designs of mutants and even draiks.

Why this character?
My character for Thoves may seem a bit complex, but I can assure you I know where I'm going with it. The idea actually came from two ideas that I loved, a god and a fallen-angel-turned-dark-magician.The second of these two characters, in fact, I thought of when I applied for a pet via the UC project. I loved both characters, but I was unsure which I should use, or if I should create a whole new character. I chose all three options by combining the two I loved and adding a few details, and have come up with a character I am 316389047m26850 times more excited about! I love greek mythology, as well, and this is an interesting tie-in to neopets :3

Why Mandi?
Sure, there are people who are far better at drawing and writing and coding, and who may have spiffier accounts, and so on and so forth. I love my pets, and I take care of them in the way I choose, through the characters I create for them. The creative outlet I find in Neopets is what keeps me coming back. I love to create. I do what I love on Neopets, and I love what I do.

...And a non-why:
What's next?
These are three of the many customizations that I think look good with Thoves and fit his character, too!

I am currently undecided on the petpet I would like for Thoves. The garfir looks magnificent and is very fitting, but the nedler is just so darn cute!

I love the ideas I have for Thoves's character, and I believe I could go really far with a story for him. As for the beauty contest, I will enter with Thoves, though this is hard to back up - I have only entered three times before, and have never won a trophy (hopefully I will this week, with Paroa!), though I did come in fifth place with Ihmsi about a year ago. Thoves will be my new muse for all things artsy!

Who? I'm Mandi, a dedicated neopets player of more than seven years, and an avid reader and equestrian. I have three accounts: apprenticeranger (main), 2broadway (side), and 3friends211 (side/old main/where I'd initially adopt Thoves). On neopets, I enjoy working with my pets (more on that later) and cruising the Pound Chat.
Offline, I love reading fantasy, which probably explains my wild character ideas! I adore my two horses, and live to ride. Horses are my passion. Also, I spend lots of time with my plethora of other pets, and am indeed a Nerdifghter (you should look it up).

The Legend of Thoves
Born the third and youngest son of a rich landowner in ancient Greece, Thoves was destined for wealth, but nothing more. He read avidly in hopes of someday joining the government and making a name for himself. While other boys his age fought with crude, wooden swords and dreamed of being in the Spartan military, Thoves longed for Athens. On his fourteenth birthday, a withered old man, wrapped in a shabby cloak, approached the family's house. Thoves saw the gaurds attempting to turn the man out, and stopped them. He brought the man inside and bid him rest in his own bedroom. He brought the man warm clothes and food, and when all his needs had been satisfied, he entreated, Grandfather, tell me your story
To the disbelief of the boy, the old man explained that he was a god. He explained that the gods had seen Thoves's determination and intellect, and had invited him to come and live on Mt. Olympus, albeit as a servant. He added that the boy's kindness and excellent service to him on that night had affirmed his selection, and explained to Thoves what an honor it would be to serve the gods.
Thoves quickly thought back on all the stories he had read about the gods. Adventure, trickery, love... This was his chance to be one of the characters he had so often read about. He thanked the old man and said that yes, he would be honored to take his place on Olympus. Before his eyes, the old man transformed into a healthy young man, drressed in regal, golden robes. The pair sought out Thoves's parents and explained the turn in events. That night, Thoves was whisked off to Olympus to begin his new life.
Thoves learned quickly and eagerly from the butler he worked under on Olympus, and soon became the head footman. His impecable manners, respect, and appreciation of his work led him to serve at every party and gala held by the gods. They learned to call upon Thoves for every whim and task to be completed, for they knew he would not fail them. The old butler retired, and Thoves took his place. In only his first year of being the head of all Olympian servants, Thoves was approached by Zeus himself.
Zeus greeted Thoves like an old friend and thanked him for his excellent service. They chatted for a while, recalling their favorite moments at events and telling stories that both of them knew, but listened to the other in feigned surprise. At long last, Zeus asked him, Thoves, how would you like to become a god?
