Welcome to the E.S GIMP Tutorial. Please DO NOT steal, redistribute, or edit these in ANY way. I worked hard writing these. If you do, I WILL take the tutorial down. The pictures are either from GIMP or whatever. Also, neomail me HERE if you have any question. I only have GIMP for three months so I don't know EVERYTHING about GIMP.

Repeat for all layers by clicking on the layers then pressing CTR+F. Next, go to your brush menu and pick a brush that looks like a sparkle. Click on your bottom most layer and put some sparkles on it. Repeat for all layers. Next, go to Filters-Animation-Playback. Play it to see how it looks, and if you like it, save it as .gif. Open up a new white canvas. Select gradient tool- white to black with Shape: Linear, 100% opacity, and in Difference Mode. Start clicking rapidly around the canvas. Go to Filters- Distorts- Emboss and change settings until you get it to look like a foil paper.
*Handwritten Text*

Open up image or blank document with a background color. Add your text then go to Dialogs-Layers. Right click Text Layer (Top Most) and change to "Alpha to Selection." Delete the Text Layer. Set foreground color to any color you want your text to be. Choose a brush. It depends on the size of your font, any bends, or letters next to each other. MAKE SURE YOUR SELECTION OF THE TEXT IS ACTIVATED. It should look like "marching ants" around your text. Make a dab at any place on the 1st letter where you will normally begin to write. Duplicate the layer (layer-Duplicate) and repeat until you covered your entire text. Play your animation (Filter-Animation-Playback.) If you like it, save it as .gif. A window will pop up. Check "Save as Animation" and press "Export" then click OK.
*Swirly Design(2 ways) *

1. Start with a blank document (any size.) Pick any font and write anything on the canvas (doesn't matter.) Go to Filter-Distorts-Iwarp and set the Deform mode to Swirl CW. Click on the text on the window and move it around. If you mess up, click "Reset." Save when finish.

Go to Dialogs-Layer and click on "Background." Go to Filters- Distorts- Whirl and Pinch. Change only the whirl angle to 90. Now, click on "Background Copy" on your Layer Dialog and do the same thing except change the whirl angle to 120. Set the layer mode to "Darken Only" for the Background Copy. Merge layers together. Go to Tools-Color Tool- Colorize. This step is up to you. Pick any color you like.
Optional Duplicate Layer and put the mode to Addition. Merge down and colorize again if needed.
*Blending (2 ways) *

1. Open up your image on GIMP. Add a new layer. Paste your picture then go to Layer- Anchor Layer. Use your lasso tool and select the area that you want to blend. Now, go to select- feather and enter any value. Note that the higher the number is, the smoother your selection will be. Invert your selection (Select-Invert.) Next, clear it (Edit-Clear.) and the edge will continue to blend in. Now, deselect your image (Select-None) and go to Dialogs-Layers. Click the 1st Layer (Top Most) and set its mode to Value.

2. Make a blank image with a white background. Place both your image on it, overlapping a bit. Grab your lasso tool and double click on the icon. The tool option will pop up. Check "Antialiasing" and "Feather Edges." Set the radius to 20.0. Outline the areas you want to blend together and Edit-Cut. Repeat until it is blended the way you want it to be. Enhance it any way you like.
*Ring*

Make a 500x500 canvas-Transparency. Fill with BGColor (Edit- Fill with BG Color.) Go to Filters- Map-Map Object and change to Map to: Sphere and check the transparent background. Next, go to Script-Fu- Alpha to logo-Neon and leave the setting as they are (size 150, background white, and glow black.) Go to Dialog-Layers and delete the background layer (bottom most.) Merge remaining layers. Go to Filters- Distorts- Emboss and change settings to Azimuth: 203.23, Elevation: 180.00, and Depth: 30.00. Go to Script-Fu-Render-Lava and use the default setting. It can be any gradient. Select none then Save.
*Realistic Fire*

Create a canvas and fill it with black. The size should be 200 x 100 pixels. Make spiky Mountain-like shapes on the canvas (See Figure 1.) Next, go to Filters- Distorts- Ripple. Select Sinusoidal wave type and horizontal orientation. The Period and Amplitude depends on your image size. Since mine is 200 x 100, it would be 25 and 4. Apply Gaussian Blur (Filter- Blur- Gaussian Blur. Set the setting to Blur method IIR and x +y to around 20 pixels. Now, sure you've chosen the German Flag Smooth Gradient. Just double click the gradient icon on your main tool window and select it. Lastly, map the gradient(Filter-Colors-Map-Gradient Map.)
*Quick Mask *

Load up your image. Make a rectangular selection around the edge of the image. Click on the red bordered Quick mask icon in the lower left corner of your image window OR go to select- Toggle Quick Mask OR press Shift+Q. Go to filters-Distorts- Waves and press OK. Go to Select-Invert then Edit-Fill with bgcolor.
Note: You can use any other filters beside wave, like Noise Spread and Newsprint.
*Animation*

Open up new canvas. Create 1st part of your animation. Add a new layer and create the second part. Repeat adding layer and keep creating the next parts. When you finish, go to Filters-Animation-Playback.
*Animated Rain*

Open up your image that you want to add the rain effect on. Duplicate the image 2 times. Add a new white layer for each background by clicking the layer in the Layer Dialog box then click Layer-New Layer. It should be alternating starting from the image layer then the white layer with a total of 6 layers.

Add noise to each white layer (Filter-Noise-Scatter RGB.) Unclick correlated Noise and Independent RGB. Set the green, red and blue to .63 and alpha to 0. Press OK. Repeat for all the white layer by pressing Ctr+F or Go to Filter- Repeat Scatter RBG. Click on the white layer then press Ctr+F. Add motion Blur to each noise layer (Filter-Blur-Motion Blur.) Blur Type should be Linear, length 10, angle 135, and press OK. Set the layer mode for each noise layer to Multiply. Merge the noise layers down to the background image below it. DO NOT merge the background image together. You should now have the 3 background layer left.

Next, Filter-Animation- Playback and save it as .gif. Save as Animation and press OK.
*Getting a new document into the same size as your image*

Open up a new canvas. Paste your image then copy it from GIMP. Go to File-New. The height and width should have change to the same size as your image. Press OK and paste the image on.
*Border around text *

Make a new transparent layer. Next, add your text. Go to Dialogs-Layers and right click your text layer. Select "Alpha to Selection" and then go to Select-Grow and set the number. I recommend 1-5 depending on how big is your text. Now pick a color. Go back to Dialogs- Layers and then select the transparent layer. Go to Edit-Fill with BG Color. Merge the text layer and the transparent layer then select none.
