Why and What?
Over the course of my Six-and-a-half years on Neopets (That's correct, this isn't my very first account!) I've come across a handful of what some people refer to as 'Fandom' or, Remake pets.
Now if you don't know what a Fandom pet is, chances are you've probably seen once and haven't recognized them, or you just simply don't know the term.
Fandom is a term coined for a community of people that are fans of certain movies, games, music, and all that Jazz. So commonly on the chats you'll find that the Harry Potter fandom for example is quite large. Let's digress, it's time to get back on track now that we know a small bit about 'Fandom'.
When it comes to Fandom or Remake pets, these are neopets that have been made either as, or in mind of, characters from existing movies, games, manga, and whatever else takes their creator's fancy.
Here, on this page, I'm hoping to link to as many fandom pets as possible :) This opens up for other people characters from the same series to role play with, and some people to just look at and go 'Awesome'.
Taking the plunge - How do people make their characters?
We can use EtnaRock as a prime example.
Etna : Oi.
Now, you most likely won't know whom Etna is. More precisely, you won't know who she's based off. EtnaRock is based off Etna from a game called Disgaea. This means that my Etna Zafara is a Disgaea Fandom Pet. She has the personality of Etna from the game, and her design is deprived from the character's, plus colour and patterns which hold some reference or feel for the person she's based off of.
People go through different stages when making fandom pets. I myself would like to think that I'm pretty aware of what I'm doing, and don't just throw things together on a whim. No no, while a lot of my other pets do have rather blank pages, they certainly have the research and detail on them.
Let's go into degrees, here. You will have people that know the general bases of personality of a character they want to make a pet of, and using the character's design (Hair, clothing, all of that) will make a pet of their species of choice from them.
Some people, such as myself, rather look at what type of pet suits them better. I choice a Zafara for Etna due to both her fighting style, personality, and the fact that the two legged stance seems to hold a higher level of representation for her, in my option. Of course, some other people might thing that a lupe might suit her better.
Speaking of lupes, I would like to point out some more details here. If we take a look at some of my fandom lupes, at least of recent times, you'll see that while on first glance you might not notice it, but they usually have assigned breeds. This is because, while to me it's all well and good to have a lupe, breed classifications, conditions and temperaments can carry along a whole new way of conveying a character - It doesn't just make them look cool! I usually put quite a deal of care into choosing my breeds, but of course, that's just what I like to do. I don't just pick say, a husky because I think they're... Uber pretty or something. No, I pick a certain breed depending on temperament and the breed's history, not to mention what they might be used for.
Of course, if you're making your pet, you shouldn't feel like you should have to follow the same things I do. It's simply how I've programmed myself to do it, and you won't find too many others that have the same routine!
That's one of the wonderful things with fandom pets - It's each to their own, but still sharing the love.
