![]() [†][Introduction][†] The sea had never felt so calm, so serene before. Shafts of light penetrated the surface of the water, some twenty feet above you. Below, the white sand glistened with light. Small rocks dotted this barren landscape, and small tangles of seaweed sprouted up beside it. But then something catches your eye. It is not one of the many multi-colored fish you had seen, darting about in the crystalline water. No, instead you see something truelly unique. For motionless, hovering, suspended about a yard above the sea floor was a near ebon serpent. His navy hide gleamed as the light from above danced across it. Golden frills protruded from the back of his head, and draconic wings of a similar hue were positioned somewhat away from his lithe body. The serpent's belly was also a gold, as was his vast, rudder-like tail. The tail was spotted with the same color as the vast majority of his body-a deep, navy blue-and his eyes a vibrant green. The movements you created as you made your way through the water must have alerted him, and with a single fluid movement that involved flicking his tail, he torpedoed towards you, pulling up beside you. He was about a meter in length, and although smaller than you, he still posed a threat, as you could see the ivory fangs he sported as he opened his mouth. No doubt they were poisonous. You stared at each other for a while. Finally, he spoke. "Who are you?" he hissed. Then he continued on, not giving you a chance to reply. Not that you could, really. Humans can't speak underwater, after all. It seemed like winged snakes could, though. "I am Eroa, a poisonous sea snake. If you are not afraid of me, and the fact that if I chose to bite you you'd be dead before you could get to the surface and cry for help, I'll let you come with me," he said, a twisted grin alighting upon his face. After that remark, you quickly retreated. But you knew that he was fast, from the display he had put on but a minute ago. So briefly, you nodded, not sure what to say. Might as well, although the idea of going somewhere with a poisonous ribbon didn't sound all that great to you. But, either way, if you refused, he might get angry. And one wouldn't want that. You floated there for a moment more. As you watched, the twisted grin became more genuine, and he nodded towards a spot on the horizon. Well, the sea-horizon or whatever it was supposed to be. Then come, and I shall tell you a bit about myself, he said, then quickly took the lead. A second later though, he looked back at you, your face red. "Ah... Can't breathe under-water, now, can we? Here, eat this," he said, diving down to the bottom and retrieving a small piece of the grass that dotted the sand. Quickly, you took it out of his mouth and put it in yours. You hoped that he hadn't put poison on it. Or germs. But snakes weren't germy, were they? The grass was sticky in your mouth though, and you concentrated on chewing it. Quickly, you swallowed. The snake, or Eroa as he had called himself, nodded approvingly at you. "Ok. Now breath," he said. Quickly, you did, and oddly enough, it worked. He then nodded once more, and set off. You followed.
[†][Statistics][†] You hadn't gone long before he paused, and quickly began to tell of himself. "As I told you, I am Eroa. I was one of the first hissies born, but I have not yet been in Neopia for a decent amount of time, as some of the other firsts are.
Name: Eroa After looking it over, you hand it back to him and nod briefly. He nods back, and then you continue on your way.
[†][Likes and Dislikes][†] A few seconds after you departed the hissi launched into another round of non-stop information. "So. Like you and many others, I have some likes and dislikes. What I like are..." he trailed off, and then began a list.
He flashed you a smile after the last comment. Then he paused before launching into another list. "And this is what I don't like.
He paused suddenly, as if expecting you to say something. But when you did not, he quickly continued on his way.
[†][Story][†]
Eroa paused, as if trying to recall something then. A look of delight suddenly crossed his face, as he had suddenly recalled it. "Ah. Let us see. Next, we have my story. I warn you, it?s a tad bit lengthy, so I'll excuse you if you space out on this," he said. You nodded in reply, looking somewhat worried. Unlike other hissies," he began. "Only my mother was a hissi. She was a rather attractive female. An energetic blue hissi with dragon wings and frills. They come from my grandfather. He was a draik. My father, however, was a terran breed of serpent. A yellow bellied sea snake, as his type was called. Highly poisonous, they are. Oddly enough, he and my mother met although they belonged to different planets. And, even odder still, they fell in love. A year after they first met, my mother laid an odd clutch of three eggs. They all consisted of a medly of mixed up hues. The last one was me. We hatched, and were raised in protection, and given the love and care we needed. All that would change though. Years after I first arrived on the scene, a Neopian explorer discovered our secluded breed. We were then rounded up, captured and taken back to Neopia to sit in the pound. There were many of us, and I tried to stay hidden as hoards of people came and started claiming us. One by one, our numbers dwindled. After a while my mother and father were taken but different people, but my siblings and I were taken by the same person. A kind soul by the name of Gin. Of course, soon after my brothers were then adopted to more suitable owners then some of the unruly n00bs back at the pound, although one, Stliyer, stayed with Gin. But that was only temporary. He then went to live with someone named Momiji. I went to Sara. Yukinite went to a friend of Sara's friend, Kaku. There I was met by a large amount of strange and bizarre (and some a tad bit rude) creatures that were all under Sara's care. He suddenly stopped, then checked back to see if you were still awake. Once confirming that you were, he continued. "Ok. So it wasn't as long as I'd expected. But give it another year, and I bet you it will double in length, since life does go on," he said.
[†][Family][†] A little ways on, he paused once more, and two pictures of odd looking hissies appeared. You look at them, a bit confused. Sensing your confusing, he continued. "This is my family... Or at least, what remains of it. I'll go a little more in depth if you like," he offered. You nodded, still a bit spaced out from the long story you had just been forced to listen to. Yukinite, or Yuki as my other brother and I sometimes call him. He thinks he's a dark prince or something... And thinks we're inferior. Obviously he seems not to notice that us being related to him would be princes as well if he was one," he chuckled lightly at that. "He's a bit on the evil side, but he's still my brother, and I have to deal with him," he said, grinning wryly. Stliyer is my other brother. He's not as annoying as Yuki is, for sure. I can't say I prefer him to Yuki, though, being my brother he's naturally a pain. But then again, that's what siblings are for, aren't they?" he rolled his emerald eyes at that. Nodding suddenly, Eroa vanished the pictures, and then nodded you to follow him further.
[†][Friends][†] After a little while a thought seemed to surface in the serpent's mind, and he sighed almost wistfully. "You are probably wondering if I have any friends... Well, alas, I do not, although I wish I did.
[†][BC][†] Both of you swam in silence for another minute or so, as Eroa plainly searched for something else to say. Suddenly though, a lightbulb seemed to turn on in his mind. "Ah yes... My owner once did mention a sort of competition of which pictures of a pet are entered to compete against others. She called it the BC, I believe. Well, I for one have been entered in this BC. And, I've 'placed', recieving trophies for myself and neopoints for my owner. So far I have been entered once, and placed once. My trophies are listed below..." he trailed off.
He suddenly conjured up a silver cup-like trophie. "I was entered in the very first hissi BC when I recieved this trophie. I was forced to compete against 120 other hissies, and managed to place 2nd with a grand total of 273 votes, I believe. Remarkably enough, though, I only managed to recieve one more vote than the hissi in third place. My owner loves to speak of this tale, since it is extremely uncommon in the BC as I am told." After he finished speaking, the trophie disapered though, and he nodded for you to follow him once more.
[†][Awards][†] Rather quickly after he finished the last rant, he continued talking again. "Well, while we have just left the topic of the BC which involves rewards, I'd like to touch on the topic of awards. Basecly, I have none. And that's all," he said, and nodded, a look on his face that suggested he was deep in thought. He then started swimming again. You breifly wondered if he really needed to force you to continue swimming, or if he was just giving you an uneccessary workout.
[†][Adoptables][†] Shortly after another breif pause, he congured up several other small pictures that showed his likeness. He smiled at them, and then nodded to them. "These are adoptables I have recieved from other kindly people. Currently I have five," he said, and then motioned for you to admire them. After he was sure you had finished looking at them, they, like other images you had seen while with him, vanished.
[†][Fanart][†] Shortly after vanashing the last set of pictures, yet more appeared. These, however, were larger and some included backgrounds. "These are pictures people have drawn of me... I believe they call it fanart?" he said, not sure of the true nature of the art.
[†][Portals][†] After much swimming, you finally reach shallower water. But before you go too shallow, Eroa blocks your path. Grinning a sort of wry grin, he tilted his head to the side, still grinning. "You do know, don't you, that this is but a mere illusion constructed of a simple recipe including the use of talent, creativity, and knowledge of html? All of this isn't the least bit real, or the least bit necissary. Which means you didn't have to eat that sea weed, since you were actually still sitting at your computer somewhere reading this," he cast a worried look at you as you made a face at the thought of the seaweed. "You did know that, didn't you?" He then nodded down. "Well, as you can clearly see, here are some links to my little corner of neopia for you to use on your page. Use them, and you can teleport here any time you wish. That is, if you fancy a swim," he said, winking at you. "Oh, and below those are some links to fellow members of my serpent-like species. Use them if you wish to leave. Or you could just click the back button or the black neopets button at the top of the page. Your choice. Or you could close this window. The possibilities are limitless! But I supposed you've had enough of my rambles by now, so I'll just cut the chatter.
