HAIR IS FUN o3o
And here is why:
BRUSH SETTINGSSS. This is for CS4, but I used these same settings in PSE7, too. Basically, your brush should have size, shape and opacity dynamics enabled. The spacing should be set to 1% (especially if you're painting big. D|) |
Sketttch. D: It's best to already have an idea about how you're going to separate the hair into pieces before starting. |
On a new layer over the sketch, paint in a flat base in the shape of where your hair shall be. o3o |
...oh yeah, and you should have a color palate. XD It doesn't really matter how many lights or darks you have, because you can always go back and layer on top of it if the darks aren't dark enough/lights aren't light enough.
Lock the transparency on the base layer, and fill the thing in with the second darkest color on your palate. Then, start drawing in (with smooth, loose lines) where the shadows of your hair will be; the object is just to give yourself an idea of what the general *shape* of the hair chunks will be. o3o Some light shading can be good too. |
And after that, it's just a matter of lightening it up. Go over the main areas with the next shade up, keeping the lines loose and flowy C: |
More coloring...
Don't color over the same place every time. You can make some random, but generally your brush size should be getting smaller as you pick the lighter colors. |
Laa de da :U~ movin' on up. Start making your hair look more like individual strands as opposed to big chunks, but not too much. |
In this one, I decided that it needed darker shadows, so I picked a color darker than my darkest shadow and added a little bit in the edges where the chunks overlapped. |
Then for flyaways and strongest hilights~! Not my favorite flyaway job, but you get the idea. O;
And that's how I painted Space Llama's hair too so nobody has to ask anymore because hopefully now you know. G'BYYEEEE ♥ |
