I was wondering when you were going to drop in...

 So I guess you have heard about Screenies, they are all the rage. ^_~
Well, I've decided to have a go at them too.
Some may be funny, others not, so bear with me... You can also read my how-to guide... Thanks!


So you want to make screenshots, guest? Well, we here will do our best to teach you how to!
If you're a beginner, start from lesson one... If you already know how to make screenies perhaps you will find the tips and ideas section helpful...
Let's begin now...


Lesson One - What is a "screenie"?

A "screenie" or screenshot is like a photo you can take with your computer. You can capture anything that appears on your computer screen and keep it forever as an image.
Some people like to edit these images, adding their own words and drawings to them.
They can then be displayed on the Internet for others to see.
Some good screenies can be made on Neopets. They might be pictures showing you finding a random event, or something amusing you saw on the chat boards.
Let's learn how to make your own screenies and show them to others on the web...


Lesson Two - Making screenshots

If you are using a PC take a look at your keyboard. You will find a button saying "PrtSc". This image of a keyboard might help you…
If you are using a PC look at the red square, if you have a laptop, look at the purple bar…



Still can't find it? Ask someone in your home for help!
If you push this button, you will take a "photo" of your computer screen as it looks now.
You can then enter into an image editing programme and paste your screenshot in.
You can add text, drawings and cut it to size then save the image.
You can then upload the picture onto the internet and show it to the world!


Lesson Three - Editing your image

Your computer already has a perfect programme to help you make your screenies.
It's called MSPaint. You can find it by clicking on "Start", then "Accessories" and "Paint".
Once you open the programme, it will look like this...



You can go to "Edit" on the menu bar (1) and then select "Paste" (2).



If a message ask you if you want the image enlarged, click "no".
You now have an image called a "screenie".
Use the tools on the sidebar to edit your picture.


Lesson Four - Paint tools

The tools of paint are simple to learn and use.



The paintbrush paints, the bucket fills and the "A" adds text. If you'd like to learn more, simply click "Help" up the top of the programme...


Lesson Five - Making good screenies

The idea behind screenies it to show people fun images that make them laugh or to capture a moment that was special to you.
Screenies should NOT be used to hurt other people.
If someone says something silly on a chat board and you want to show others a screenie of it, remember to always REMOVE THEIR USERNAME or any form of identification.
Not only will this stop them getting upset but it will also stop you getting a one-way ticket to Iceland from TNT…
Here is a good example of a bad screenshot…



Notice how it not only shows the person's name, but insults them too…
(Before you neomail me calling me a hypocrite, please know that the person who posted this message was ME, therefore I am not insulting anyone… ^^)
Also, there is not much point to making a million chat board screenies as everyone else has the same idea. Try more interesting things on the site like random events or mistakes!
Here is an example of a better screenie if you choose to make chat ones…



Notice how the names are removed and there are no insulting comments…


Lesson Six – Saving and showing them

Go to "File" and then "Save" your screenie as either a .jpg or .gif file.
You can then upload you image onto the internet.
It's up to you which image host you use, but I like photobucket.
To learn more search the internet or ask an older person or teacher for help.


Lesson Seven – Putting your screenie on the web.

A good place to put your screenie is on your petpage (a page like this one). To edit it visit pet central and click on "your pet's page"…
You can use HTML to put them on the page and add text. Click here for a great HTML guide on Neopets.
Remember to keep your screenie Neopets-related and check if it's okay with your family before you put any pictures of yourself on there!!!
