The Application Process

These days, applications have become mandatory for most adoptions and most would be happy to apply for their dream pets. However, the expectations for these applications have become far too high. For this reason, this page was made. To try and change how we see applications and how we foster pets.

Fosters

When you adopt out your pets, you need to adopt with your pet in mind, not your ego. You shouldn't be biased towards any form of expressing interest in your pet. Just because you do art, doesn't mean your applicant has to to be considered.

You also need to consider, what exactly does a good owner mean to you? Once you answer that question you can put your pet UFA.

Sometimes applications aren't the best way to adopt a pet out. You can also try just gifting to someone who will enjoy your pet or asking people to chat on a board and looking through their account.

If you mention how picky you are with one pet, then you're going to push away possible applicants. If you care so much for that pet, why is it going UFA?

These days, the basic application content is similar in everyone's app, and so you look at everything else. But instead of going to see how good they draw, look at their personalities first. As well at their current pets to see if they'll keep up their promises.

If someone goes over the top, it doesn't mean they're a good owner. Look for quality not quantity in an app.

Try to make the rules limiting as possible. If you let them go all out, it usually leads to drama, lying, cheating, and all the other bad stuff. Neomail apps are great here, because it lets you see their accounts/pets as evidence they'll keep their promises and you can't be swayed by the extras.

Be honest in your rules. If you're not going to choose someone if they don't do X, they have Y, and they're missing Z, tell your applicants that. It'll save a lot of people from sadness and give people time to get the things you're looking for.

Find out how the applicants act around others. Get on a side with basic pets and font and see how they react. You can learn a lot by how a person acts towards their 'inferiors.'

Don't let the extras distract you from the basic content.

Just because someone makes a super pretty huge petpage application, it doesn't guarantee that they're a good owner or that they really like your pet.

Overview: be honest with your applicants, focus on the important things in an app and know what you define as a good owner.

Applicants

If you want to go all out, go ahead. But you shouldn't do it just because you think you won't have a chance if you don't.

If you need to write an essay to prove how much you love the pet, then you don't really love the pet. Someone who truly does can do it in a lot less.

If you write the pet's entire story then what will you do if you get the pet? It'll just rot and you won't do anything with it.

Don't apply for a pet if you don't really want it. Apply if you truly think the pet's for you.

If you wouldn't do the things you said for your own pet, why say you will for the pet you're applying for?

If you want to stand out, sometimes doing less is more effective than doing more.

Try doing a neomail app. The reason why they're seen as worse than petpage apps are because usually 'n00bs' choose to do them. If you can write a good one, it'll probably stand out much more in fosters' eyes. You can always link to your about me page or your pets' lookups if you want them to know more.

Dedication means that the pet can inspire you, it doesn't mean you need to write the pet's name all over your lookup.

Overview: Be unique, and no that doesn't have to mean doing more.

Spread The Word!

To everyone who says changing the application process won't happen, well it won't if we don't try!

Make a board:

Puts your pets UFA in a way that supports this idea. We'll link to your rules page here as well.

Display the page: Here are some buttons that you can take and spread the word.

In Conclusion

It's not about changing the PC all at once, it's changing how each one of us sees adoptions and applications and what we do because of it.

Thank you to everyone who agreed, disagreed, supported and help create this page and the boards. (:
