Told by Sin, the Ghostkerchief
I was cold, wet, and scared. I held to the branch with dear life, hoping that I would make it out of this alive. I doubted it, though. My luck had run out; I was on my last legs.
The fox that had cornered me up in this tree was sly and crafty. His eyes were gleaming with hunger. It would not be long before he found a way to scale the tree and catch me. I was defenseless.
I heard scratching noises, a snarl, and then yelping. I could not see what was happening; fear had made my eyes weld shut. Suddenly, something sharp grabbed at my neck and picked me from the tree. I knew it was the end, but I reached out anyway, trying to touch the soul of my demise. It was kind, warm, and surly not that of the evil fox. This surprised me, and I found myself opening my eyes.
For a moment, I thought the Moon had grabbed me! I gasped, but then realized my mistake. It was a creature like that I had never seen before. His face was beautiful, a milky white; a white that flowed down his neck and his belly and to his tail, staining the tip. The rest of his body was as dark as a moonless night. His golden eyes stared back into my teal ones as he gently set me on a root of the tree that I had been trapped in. There was blood on his muzzle, and also on the ground next to us.
He opened his great maw. I saw his yellowed teeth, and for a moment thought he was going to devour me himself. But then, he spoke in a deep, rough voice. That of which soothed me, even though he spoke in tongues I did not comprehend. But, I guessed what he was saying by his eyes, which were now gentle. A smile rippled across his muzzle, and I knew I was safe.
If a spirit, even one of flesh like I, could cry, tears would have poured like a river from my eyes. I rushed to my savior, buried my face in his shaggy fur, and I felt safe. Once more, I touched his warm soul.
o Life of Vaidon o
It was a late August night that Eclipics was brought into the world, though that was not his name then. His parents called him Vaidon, after his father's father. The two parents were proud and happy with their newborn son.
As the young pup grew, he was taught in the ways of an ancient magic, passed down from one generation to the next in his family line. This was the magic of a celestial manifestation, involving two branches; one being solar magic, and the other lunar. Vaidon was taught that you are governed by one of the branches, and each branch has elements that the branch gives you to control. The elements of solar are fire, earth and light; and the elements of lunar are air, water and dark. Each branch also weakens the governed to some extent. The branch you are governed by can be chosen by several factors, including: the time of day you are born, the time of year you are born, your eye or fur color, your personality, hereditarily, or completely randomly.
When Vaidon reached the age of five years his governing branch became apparent, like all pups of his age, and he began to train with his nearest relative to him that had the same governing branch, as tradition stated should be done. So it came to pass that Vaidon's father became his master.
Training extensively, Vaidon learned more of the ways of his breed, and more of his abilities and weaknesses. He learned, firstly, that one branch usually mates with its own, but solar and lunar pairs were becoming more common and accepted, luckily for his parents. He learned the effects of the opposite branch on his own, not to his liking, and soon despised it. He learned to fight, and started to develop his own style. By the time of his fifteenth year he was quite the knowledgeable one.
The sixteenth year of a pup in Vaidon's breed is the most important year of their life. It is the year they graduate from their apprenticeship and are then able to do what they wish with themselves. This important year was drawing nearer and nearer for Vaidon, and he and his father were cracking down on their last lessons.
Vaidon's father had taken him to a large river on the edge of the territory to practice his abilities of his governing element. It was not quite dusk, and the river was swift. Maybe too swift, for when they tried to cross Vaidon was overpowered and carried downstream. Though his father tried to rescue him, Vaidon plummeted over the waterfall and into the gathering darkness below.
o The Flying Thing o
It was quiet, all except for a continuous roar. What was it? Where was it coming from? All was dark, but he soon realized that his eyes were closed. He blinked them open and found himself lying, covered in dark and murky stuff covering the ground. He was by a large thing, filled to the brim with this stuff that seemed to flow on forever, and the roar coming from a thing made of the same stuff falling from a sheer drop. He looked up and saw nothing but blue, with little white things that seemed wispy on some parts.
Hmmm.. why did he not know what all this was called? It seemed like he did, it was on the tip of his tongue, but then it was gone. He shrugged it of and stood, going to check out what this flowing stuff was.
It was cold and wet when he stuck his paw in it. He smelled it. It seemed safe, and smelled somehow good, so he tasted it. He first lapped at it nervously, but found it to his liking and drank greedily. He must find out what this was!
But first things first, he was filthy, covered almost completely with a caked brown thing. Something in the back of his mind told him to jump in the flowing stuff. Cautiously, he inched a hind leg in, then the other, until all four legs were submerged in the shallow flowing stuff. Seeing that the flowing stuff was washing the brown stuff off and revealing his black and white fur, he splashed around until he was clean.
Then he heard something above the roar of the falling flowing stuff. He looked up to see this flying thing plucking silvery things from the flowing thing. The flying thing was yellow and made a loud screeee sound as it swooped toward the flowing thing. He cocked his head; maybe this flying thing could tell him about where he was and what surrounded him. Something told him to open his mouth and to try to utter sounds, and after several moments he seemed to have succeeded.
}You! Flying thing! What are you?~ he called, his voice half-hoarse and gruff.
The flying thing looked at him with an odd look about his face.
