The Hilltop Copse
Welcome Stranger! So what's your name then? ... guest? Nice name, I think. Thanks for visiting me and Rebel, it gets boring up here sometimes when Havocki gives me my days off, but at least I have my own little den in this hilltop copse instead of having to share with those smelly Lupe's that Jayla likes to keep in touch with. They live further down in the woods, you're welcome to visit them if you like, but they're a bit busy working on their own dens so I doubt they'll say much. Anyway, stick around for a while!
Well, this is The Burrow. When Havocki told me I was to do my survival training alone as homework, he took me to this copse on the hill so I could train in peace. I don't actually do any training though, I mainly just laze about or play games with Rebel.
Sorry about the entrance, My old petpet, Kupo, and I dug this den out all by ourselves and we don't expect visitors of your size. We dug our home directly underneath an old beech tree, and the roots act like a suport which keeps the roof up, whilst other roots dig down and act like pillars. No chance of a cave-in that way, see? Pretty clever on Kupo's part I must say, but I think he got this idea from a book about rabbits. He tries to get me to read it, but I don't like books so I haven't read it yet.
I see you're admiring our lights? That was my idea! I asked Jayla to get me a Glowing Paint Brush, and after mixing it about with other Paint Brush colours, we came up with different glowing colours! We dipped our paws into the paint and dabbed it all over the walls. It's bright enough so we don't bang our heads all on the walls, but dim enough so we can sleep undisturbed at night. Neat, huh? C:
About me!
Name: Ecilo von Canis LupusAge: 9 Years Old (Human)
Gender: Male
Species: Lupe
Colour: Baby (Brown Pelt)
Mother: Claudia
Father: Vincent
Siblings: None
Petpet: Rebel the Gruslen
As you can see, I have a pretty frilly name; but don't worry! I wouldn't ask you to call me by my full name, Ecilo is fine! I'm a young scamp and my parent's are police dogs! One day I hope to grow up to be a police dog too! My parents sent me away to go live with a pack of wolves to toughen me up, but I'm not so sure about them. They smell :((((
Anyway, my favourite activity in the world is eating food ... That's right! Give me a dinner plate full of food and I don't care what it is; I'm eating it! Except Vegetables. They're horrible. Period. Full stop. End of. Exclamation mark times three!!! I'm serious, those things are gross. Anything that tastes gross is obviously not good for you!
My parents gave me a guardian so I wouldn't get into trouble, I've mentioned him before, his name's Kupo; a Faellie. He's not with me anymore, he lives with Alex now, since my mistake (which I'll talk about later). But now I have Rebel. Rebel used to belong to Havocki, but when Havocki noticed I was without a Petpet, he got all worried and gave me his! Rebels fun too, Petpet's are naturally fun creatures, but he is a little serious at times, especially when Havocki's trying to teach me.
This is probably a noteworthy feature about me, but I have a technical disability that might mean I won't be able to become a Police Dog. And that's my back paws. For some reason, I was born without claws on my back paws. When I look closely, there's kind of ... slots, in my paws where claws should be, but none have grown there and none ever will. It's strange, when I need to climb a tree or cling to a game I'm hunting, I grip with my front claws, and my back paws try to do the same, more often than not it can really disrupt my intentions. Because of this, my forelegs are really powerful, I can hang onto a tree branch all day, but my back legs are fairly weak. They're not entirely useless though, as they're just as spry as the rest of me and without the grip of the claw I can bounce really high when I need too. Almost like a Wocky! Because of this I really doubt that they won't let me become a Police Dog, but they're so touchy about things like that that it does occasionally worry me at night.
Training
As you know by now, Havocki was asked by my parents to train me up to become a big strong Lupe. He trained them when they were puppies too, so it made sense. They say the secret to becoming a great Police Dog is to learn the brutal savagery that is surviving in the wilds alone, if I can learn that, then the streets will be no problem. So Havocki has broken my training down into six parts:
Building: The first part is shelter. If you're going to survive outdoors you need to have adequate shelter to keep you out of the cold and the rain. Havocki showed me several different means to build a home out of, and told me to pick one and build it. I decided on a den, as it blends into nature and is far less likely to fall apart after years in the elements - that's when Kupo and I built The Burrow. We built it high on a hill for easier surveillance, but nestled in a grouping of trees so its tucked away; out of sight and out of the wind. It's also quite important to know how to build small, temporary shelters for wide patrols.
Hunting: The second is hunting, again if you're going to survive outdoors then you need to learn how to gather your own food. This was a real blow for me as I've always had food brought to me. As everyone knows, Lupes luuuuurve Chias, but I don't like them that much, too fattening. So I hunt critters and other small game, like mice and vowels that live in the woods below the copse. I still don't hunt rabbits out of respect for Kupo, even though he isn't a Snowbunny or even my Petpet anymore. Rebel generally eats whatever I eat, and since he's so small he doesn't really eat much. I have no idea what his Bumbluz eats, he seems happy enough just living on Rebel's head.
Feeding: Knowing what to do with the food once you have it is almost as important as knowing how to hunt them. Lupes have a particular stomach (except for certain Lupes types) and uncooked meat is not good for us. So knowing how to build a covert campfire to cook your meat on is highly important. I dig a little scrape in the ground and arrange rocks and stones inside and around it -to contain the fire so I don't suddenly set things alight- and use small twigs and such to fuel the fire. It doesn't last very long but it also doesn't produce a big black smoke which is easily spottable. Knowing which berries and mushrooms are edible is really important too, I remember which ones are edible by their colour and shape.
Patrolling: You gotta protect your territory from others who would seek to take it from you, and you have to survey your area to see what's new and what's changing. The best time to do this is early in the morning, when all the creatures are waking up to go hunt. Anything that's different I take note of, in case it can cause me trouble later on. Sometimes I go on wide patrols, which can take days or weeks. I generally explore the woodland and occasionally into the city. However I don't do city expeditions very much as the city is always changing and it's hard to keep on top of it all, so I generally peak in to see if anything big has happened.
Fighting: This links with Patrolling quite heavily. If I'm out on patrol and I come across a hostile stranger, I have to be prepared to fight. Havocki keeps telling me that the key wisdom is knowing when to fight and when to run away. Mostly, cuz I'm still little, I run away or set elaborate traps if the other person proves hostile. Even so, Havocki still makes me train against tree stumps with my claws, practicing claw swipes and how deep I can go before the act hurts me and makes me bite things to learn to jaw lock. That's when I harden the muscles around my mouth so when I lock them, anything in my maw can't escape, I can't quite get the hang of this though, it hurts! But I like fighting, it's fun and exciting!
Cleaning: I hate this part the most. Havocki tells me that if I don't keep myself clean in the wilds, I'm more susceptible to diseases and illnesses which can weaken me, plus if I smell too pungent then other creatures can smell and track me down, and possibly harm me. I hate bathing though, I hated it back at home when we had a huge bath tub with so many nozzles featuring so many different pressures and temperatures of water and I hate it especially now when I only have a cold and exposed stream to clean myself in. The city has public bath houses, so sometimes I go in there if I really need to get clean, but I have to be careful as people there don't like Lupe's.
The Pack
This is Havocki, the pack leader. He's super old, super smart, and super strong. He'd be like some kind of superhero if he wanted to be but he hates being the pack leader. He's real secretive about his past, but from what I've heard it's not great. He's gruff and abrasive, and isn't one for coddling at all. My training with him was brutal at first, I was used to being catered too, but I've grown up since then and they're not so bad now. Plus, since I've been training with him he's gradually softened to me (conversationally wise, not training wise: they're still brutal as heck) and on more than one occasion he's given me some guidance when I've had personal troubles. I heard from Alex that he once had a family, and that he sort of sees me as a surrogate son. I respect Havoc an awful lot, so that makes me real happy!
This is Alexandiir, Havoc's second in command and probably my favorite Lupe in the entire pack. My actual mom is aloof and sort of distant, not unloving just finds it difficult to show it; being a Policelupe and all that. But Alex is really warm and loving and caring. She's always prepared to listen to me and play games. Her cave is really warm even though it's made of stone, and it's not far from my copse so I go to visit her a lot. She's got a real sadness about her, and like Havoc once had a family that she lost. Her husband was a sailor who died at sea and her son twins are all grown up and moving all around Neopia that they don't get to visit her that much. Even though she's nearly as old as Havoc she looks much younger. Alex has this really weird glow about her, she wasn't painted Glowing or anything, she's a Shadow Lupe, but she still has this glow.
This is Solleu, Sol for short. She's the shortest, fattest and oldest Darigan Lupe I've ever seen. She's mean, selfish and totally full of herself. Before joining the pack, she was a major Princess in the Darigan Citadel, but now she's a runaway. I hate her, I don't even know why Havoc accepted her into the pack! I tried to talk to her once and she chased me for hours, cackling like a little fat chibi! Ooh that reminds me, NEVER mention her height, she's real sensitive about it. She's barely taller than me, and if you mention it at all she's got a fierce bite and real sharp fangs. I had to fight her once. I hate fighting girls but I had to fight her when she chased me. As soon as I turned and swiped at her she flew away with her stubby little wings. Now she avoids me, but whenever we have to interact she always tries to irritate me.
This is Fenirsi! Fen is my big brother, almost an adult now. He's a giant goofball, but has no interest in becoming a Policelupe like I do. Fen never really liked the idea of me being with a bunch of wild Lupes, and after a couple of weeks he managed to convince Havoc to let him join. He's since had the opportunity to see that the pack isn't nearly half bad (except for one stupid little fat girl I won't name), but for some reason he's stuck around. When he was younger he was always out fooling around with his friends, and I think he feels guilty that he wasn't there much for me when I was born. He lives in the forest in a den of his own, and sometimes even sits in and participates with me during Havoc's lessons, though he doesn't do that often considering how intense they are. When I'm not doing Havocki's lessons, visiting Alex or playing with Rebel I visit Fen.
Companion
This is Rebel, he's a White Gruslen. On his head is Polip, a Bumbluz - but please, don't try to tell him it's there. Petpetpet's are sneaky devils who like to nest on Petpets, and are the best at being entirely unnoticed by their host. You can tell Rebel all you like that Polip is there but he'll never believe you. I named the Bumbluz, if he's gonna be there we might as well have a name for him and just calling him "The Bumbluz" seems so impersonal, you know?Anyway, Rebel used to belong to Havocki. There's a whole story to go with that; including Kupo - Alex's petpet - and a fight, but it happened a quarter of a year ago and we're eager to get past it.
Kupo, at first, was really uptight and silent. Much different from what I was used to with Petpets, but after a few weeks in my company he eventually relaxed and is now as playful as I am, though he's less eager to goof around during Havocki's lessons.
