This is unusual...
No town should ever be so empty. Then again, it is getting late. Maybe it's not so unusual. But, then again... There should be at least a few people dawdling about. But there isn't. There's not a single being to be found on this long, lonely strip of cobblestone. What an awful place.
It's been long enough. There's no point in seeking for assistance at this hour- it would be in your best interest to find someplace to stay for the night, whether anybody knew you were there or not. You try to open various doors along the street, but each one is locked. No lights illuminate the windows. This horrid town is perfectly, and unarguably, abandoned. You'll need to find a way out, or settle for camping out. Either that, or breaking in...
A chilling howl of laughter erupts from someplace close by. The giggling is literally on the verge of being nauseating, a hearty, raspy laugh exhaled from somewhere deep in the stomach. You turn in several directions. What an awful place! You can hear slow uneasy footsteps- like the laughing creature is... swaying? Stumbling? You look behind you...
The monster looks no better than it sounds. A beast- almost your own height while standing on all fours- or, rather, stumbling on all fours. Its fur is dirty and matted, and comes to a stop where each wobbling limb begins- mismatched stripes running down a strange leather-like hide. It's so surreal. It's not believable. The creature halts only inches away from you. It's face is terrible- wait, it's only a mask. A toothy grin and luminescent eyes stare up at you. What are the chances that this is real?
He's not dangerous, as you come to learn. He leads you through the back streets to a more open marketplace. As you continue to pass numerous buildings, more and more lights begin to pierce the previous darkness. Kiosks and stores become inhabited, and doors open up. Life is breathed into the lonely town that once was. This must be a dream. The creature brings you to a table, where two cups were already settled. The creature can speak, which is not surprising at all.
I'll tell you about myself first. That seemed fair. He casually pushed his cup onto the ground. That seemed a little less than normal, but completely expected. Then, he burst out with laughter again, the same sickly bellow as before. No one seemed to notice or care. His head twitched to the side a few times, then he stopped.
disappeared about a year ago. She just stopped coming around. I think maybe it's because I gave her the slight impression that I didn't want her around anymore when I told her I don't want you around anymore. It's not that I don't like her, I just don't like her... being around. I mean... she's pushy and likes to knock me over. I don't like that. But I never really thought she'd leave. I'm not too sure what happened to her, but I hope she's alright... wherever she is. She was my aunt, and she used to take care of me and my sister when we were little and my mom couldn't really watch us. Now she's probably taking care of someone else, right? I mean... she wasn't that old. She's okay, I know it. I just really wish she'd say something. I'm getting... worried about her.
or Hectic, is my older sister. She and I never really got along, unfortunately. We're nothing alike in any way, and we've decided it's best to just leave each other be. Or... she decided it was best. I miss my family real bad. We don't even try to get together anymore, but that's alright, I supposed. I have my own family now, and she has hers. The last time I saw her, I do believe we had a minuscule disagreement or something along those lines. I... can't remember what it was about, really. I hate to admit it, but neither of us enjoy meeting up and it's usually a waste of both our time, so, like I said before, we don't really get together anymore. I still love her, though. Love her like crazy. She's my sister.
is my baby brother. Maybe not exactly, but something like that. He lived with Lea, our owner, a few weeks before I came to live with her, then he left, and then he came back a few months later, he acted really strange for about a year, and now he's all a-okay. He used to be real quiet, but now he's coming out of his shell, I guess, and being real cool around all of us. I kind of miss him being the way he used to be, but he's just getting older. He used to get scared in the middle of the night and bug me and he was always so snuggly. I guess he's not so bad now. Maybe he just... makes me want kids of my own. Anyway, he's one of those cool kids and I just love him to death. He's the only friend I've had staying with Lea- everyone else is just coming and going.
Before the monsters...
You notice a tiny creature scuttling toward the table. It's not any sort of animal you recognize, so, naturally, you lean forward for a better look. It freezes in place and looks up at you with huge, unblinking eyes. After a moment, it slowly progresses onward_ making sure to keep an eye on you. Oh, Canter!, Dustymasks voice rises above every other sound in the surrounding area. The creature quickly snapped its eyes in his direction. It looked completely terrified. Canter, Canter, Canter, isn't he silly? There weren't many things silly about Canter, so you don't respond. You watch it hurriedly grab the cup Dustymask had pushed onto the floor. It looks back to you. Before the monsters get to it, y'know? It squeaks, and meekly crawls away.
is a silly little creature that likes to drink too much coffee. I'm not good with pets- they always die or run away. Canter isn't really a pet. I mean, I guess he is, but I don't have to take care of him. He takes care of himself and follows me around. It's pretty cool. No one's ever followed me around before. I feel kind of... special. Hah ha!
Minus a mask...
