Under Construction

You were walking down a back street in Neopia Central. It was unusually crowded today on the main streets, so a little seclusion seemed like a nice change. You walked quickly, having places to be, with your hands in your pockets. You turned a corner, only to see a long, open alleyway in front of you. Of course it was against your better judgment to walk down a foreign alley by yourself, but it was daytime and your destination was just on the other side...

Oh, what the heck" you say to yourself, entering the alley. You try to walk quickly, careful not run in fear of being stopped and questioned by the police. After all, a person running alone down a dark alley in Neopia Central does look a bit suspicious. Anyway, you try and keep your mind on reaching the other side, rather than on negative stuff like getting mugged... or attacked... or killed! You start to walk even faster. Finally you make it half of the way across. You let out a sigh of relief. Only a few more yards... WHACK! You suddenly feel a sharp pain in the back of your head. You fall to the ground, your vision blurred. As you roll on your back, a strange blurred figure appears before you. You're too disorientated to yell, so all you can do is watch in pain and shock. It didn't last long, however. Everything goes black...

Ignore everything past this point. Its only here to help keep my thoughts straight.

As you wander around the lair of this obviously demented Gelert, you notice and old picture in a dusty frame. You pick it up, wiping the dust away with the palm of your hand. In the picture is an old man, probably in his late 70's side-by-side with a younger man who looked to be about 25-30. By the younger man's side was a rather attractive green Gelert. You turn around, trying to find the Gelert presently in your company.

Umm, hey?" you call out, unable to locate him. You walk around the room, calling to him again.

Are you still here?

OPEN DOORS CLOSED BY FORCE!" the Gelert shouted, suddenly popping out from behind a large piece of machinery. You jump back frightened at first, but soon regain your composure.

Uhh, right. Hey, who are the people in this picture?" You hand him the photograph. He takes if from you, eyeing it closely, then quickly shoves it back into your hands. His ears go down in an altogether pathetic manner as he whined softly for a moment.

Scary lab... it's the bad place, scary lab... tests on Key, scary lab..." He started to walk off, repeating the same phrase over and over again. He came to a small iron table with a single drawer. He pulled it open, from it pulling a leather bound notebook. He trotted over to you, dropping the book at your feet.

Scary lab..." he repeated once again. You pick up the notebook, and eye cocked, and open it. It sort of resembled a field journal. It many dates and numerical equations, as well as pages after pages of entries, all of which seemed to deal with scientific experimentation. You read on.

You notice a large spyder web laced around what looked to be and old, unused machine. The web was intricate and beautiful, a lot more complicated than your average spyder web. As you examine it more closely, you suddenly feel a tingle on your neck. You reach your hand back to find out what it is. Nothing seemed to be there so you pull your hand back, unaware of the large, black spyder perched on it. When you finally do look down at it, you get an uncontrollable chill down your spine. It stares up at you with is two red eyes, saliva dripping from its sharp fangs. You let out a bloodcurdling scream as shake your hand wildly.

I say!" the spyder shouts as you close your eyes and continue to scream about madly, shake your hand.

Stop you fool, or I fear I might get sick..." You stop shaking your arm and open a tightly closed eye.

What... did... you... say??"

Ah, that's better" the spyder says with a sigh once you stop. "I had simply asked for you to stop shaking your hand in fear I might get sick. I've just woken from my noon nap, you see, and tend to be a bit groggy. I would have said something sooner, but all that mad shaking caught me off guard."

Oh...uh, sorry about that... I guess..." You eye the strange spyder, very much surprised at how well it could speak. "Eh, I don't want to be rude, but...

How do I speak so well? Its not a rude question at all. You see, I am the final result of an intellectual enhancement experiment done on petpets by that mental gelert that runs around this filthy place. I must say, though, he did a crackerjack job... but I guess there is a first time for everything." The spyder yawns sleepily. "Oh, but where are my manners? My name is Bebop..."

Bebop?" you ask with a chuckle.

The spyder sighs and rolls his eyes. "YES... Bebop. I know its not exactly the most intellectual name out there, but... its what I was given. It's a small price to pay." He yawns again. "I'm terribly sorry, but I still seem to quite tired. I suppose I'll be off then..." Bebop jumped off your hand and onto his web, curling up on the silk-like treads.

Ok..." you comment to yourself, moving on.

You walk over to anther large table. On it there are some gadgets, a few bolts, a hammer... nothing too special. Just as you were about to walk away and move on, you notice a small figurine. You pick it up.

Hey, what is this?" you ask Dove, eyeing the figure that looks strangely like a gelert.

I make those" he replied, running over to you. He grasped another draw with his mouth, pulling it open. In it were dozens of the little figurines in many different shapes and colors.

You can take one if you want" he said, looking threw the draw himself.

They no good to me now anyway. No way to reverse toyification." With that he scurried off again.

Toyification?" You eye the gelert figurine closely. 'Ahhh,' you think to yourself, 'it was probably just another one of his crazy rants.
