Welcome!

Well, I finally did it. I broke down and created a page dedicated to my dream pet, an UC Faerie Meerca. D:

This page has two purposes: Throughout this page, I will refer to the Meerca as "Ethye" because it's pretty. Obviously I will change the name once I have one of these beauties.

Storytime

Who are you? The voice resonates through your head, high and clear as a bell. What are you doing here? You jump suddenly, the limp daisies falling from your hands. As you bend gingerly to pick them up, you surreptitiously glance around.

You see no one; only the headstones of the graveyard surrounded by a vine-covered fence, a large willow tree in the center, its leaves rustling slightly in the wind. Just my imagination, you think. Flowers gathered, you set off along the cobblestone-strewed path.

As the sun approaches the horizon, your pace quickens, your feet hastened by an innate fear of the dark and the dead. You twitch at every sound, every movement: a car backfires down the street, leaves blow across the ground, a mouse scurries underneath a headstone.

After a few tense minutes, you find yourself at your destination. You make your way towards the grave to place the flowers, but halt in your tracks when you notice a sleek black cat with a tufted tail sitting squarely on the spot you meant to place the flowers. It stares at you, scrutinizing. You stare back, slightly unnerved by the cat's unmoving purple eyes. You cautiously take a step forward. The cat seems to lose interest in you; it stands up, stretches, and slinks away into the shrubbery. You place your flowers quickly, then turn on your heel, meaning to head straight for the exit.

As soon as you've executed your turnaround, however, something else catches your attention: a small, bluish-green light hovers in midair, about at your eye level. It's beautiful in the fading light; if you could get a closer look, you're certain you would be able to make out a small fairy dancing gracefully in the air. Maybe if you can catch it-

As soon as you reach for it, the thing jumps just out of reach. You try again, but it still evades your grasp. Gleefully, you begin chasing it like a child might chase a butterfly, gleefully skipping as you grab at the air. A memory tugs at the back of your mind, trying to name your quarry. Will-o-wisp, you think. It's a will-o-wisp. It's been said that they lead people--

The will-o-wisp suddenly vanishes. The spell is broken, and you find yourself standing in the shadow of the old willow tree in the middle of the cemetery.

--into a trap.

I asked you what you're doing here, the voice rings through your head again. You're not imagining it this time, you're sure of it. Someone- something has been watching you. You glance around frantically as you mutter something incoherent about visiting a friend, preparing to flee from this place as soon as possible.

The fading sunlight illuminates a bit of the shadow cast by the tree. Standing there is a girl that looks no older than eight or nine years old. Instantly, you know that she is the one that has been speaking to you. Her coal-black, unblinking eyes are examining you from top to bottom. Those eyes. Blacker than the deepest night, with all the innocence of child but all the wisdom of a grandmother, contrasting her stark white face surrounded by soft, shiny black hair. She stares at you for an eternity, or no time at all.

She drops your gaze, and you find yourself able to move again. The cat that you had seen earlier was rubbing up against her leg. She smiled down at it and bent down to pick it up as a child would a teddy bear. She then looks back at you, her eyes much less piercing this time. I'm sorry if I scared you, she says. Eclipse says you're just an ordinary ol' human. Nothing to worry about. I do have to keep my home safe, after all. She smiles cheerily at you. You really should get going; humans don't tend to like it in here after it gets dark. Here, follow me. She takes your hand and leads you, as if she were the adult and you the child.

In what seems like no time at all, you find yourself back at the entrance, your car a stone's throw away. There you go, she says happily. I have to get back; they'll be expecting me at the party. Did you know that it's Mrs. Farthen's five hundredth birthday today? Quite a fuss you get when you hit that half-century. Anyhow, be more careful with your timing next time you visit, okay? I almost thought you were a ghoul for a bit. Ghouls are nasty.

You nod dumbfoundedly as you begin to trudge to your car. You unlock the door and open it, the familiar sound of the electronic lock soothing. Something makes you look back towards the cemetery; the girl is standing at the fence opening, waving vigorously. As the last bit of the sun slips under the horizon, you notice the strangest thing: her pale face seems to take on a bluish tint, her body becomes slightly transparent, and strangest of all, you notice a pair of glimmering wings behind her. You squint, trying to get a closer look, but she turns and vanishes into the shadows in the blink of an eye.

Design

Just a sketch for now.
Name: Ethye
Pronunciation: ETH-yay
Gender: Female Occupation: Graveyard Guardian
Appearance (Day): Ethye appears to be a small 8-9 year old girl with coal-black eyes and mouselike ears. She has an unnerving, unblinking stare that many find intimidating.
Appearance (Night): At night, Ethye becomes more etheral in appearance, her pale skin acquiring a blueish tint and her whole body becoming slightly transparent. She also appears to have the wings of a butterfly.
Personality: Ethye is very quiet and will spend endless days lost in her thoughts under the giant willow tree in her graveyard. But when her graveyard is threatened, she can turn into a terrifying creature, one very capable of defending herself and her home.

Companion
Name: Eclipse
Gender: Male
Species: Cat (Black Gathow)
Coat: Black with flashes of silver
Markings: Silver star on his forehead
Duties: Patrolling the edge of the graveyard, snuggling with Ethye, and organizing the will-o-wisps.

Plans

And now for one of my favorite parts of the application: I get to tell you all about what I plan to do with Ethye if I'm fortunate enough to adopt her!

Progress

Well, wanting an UC is all well and good, but what am I doing to achieve my goal?

Let's approach this logically. There are three ways I might be able to obtain an UC Faerie Meerca.

  1. Apply. Unfortunately this method is... shaky at best. I've been after one of these beauties for a few years, and in that time, only one UC Faerie Meerca has been adopted out. Unfortunately I didn't know about it until a day or two before the deadline and my rushed application was not accepted.
  2. Be gifted. This is, A, self-explanatory and, B, probably will not happen, leaving me with option #3:
  3. Trade! This is the most likely way for me to get an UC Faerie Meerca. Here's a brief recap of my progress so far:

I started with a VWN Red Aisha I adopted from the pound, then zapped Eventide. From there, I have traded up like so:

    VWN Eventide AishaWN RG Kyrii
    WN RG KyriiVWN Plushie Poogle

Good-bye

And this is the part where I say good-bye. As a thank you for reading this page, here's a gif to make you smile. It sure made Alan Rickman grin!
