I am going to tell you a tale of one forgotten long ago by the human race. There once was a little girl who was cursed from birth to endure a horrible gift. This girl could see numbers in fellow human eyes, but not ordinary numbers you see. The numbers this girl saw was their life line, when it would be cut. It was a curse she told no one about. And one day the curse stung her deep.

one

Why did your parents give you a boy's name? Said the young man, watching the sun fall. The waves crashed up and down on the shore and the sun set making the water turn into liquid gold.

I don't know, why don't you go ask them? Laughed the girl balancing herself in a perch of rocks. Then she added, Why? Is there anything wrong with the name Elliot? She said defensively.

The boy considered his response very carefully, No, it's fine. Actually I think it's kinda cute for a girl. Elliot gave him a look that was a mix between pity and bewilderment.

And how do you figure that? She said in a dangerous tone. What are you saying?

Sol took the hint and quickly added in, Cute, did I say cute? I meant cool. Elliot gave him a look over and nodded.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Then there was a pause in which no one said a word, as if a secret agreement had been made or someone had recently 'departed.' To a regular observer they may think the silence akward but to Sol and Elliot it was their way of speaking without words.

Will I see you tommorow El? Asked Sol not sure if he was hoping for a yes or no.

Yeah sure, just so long as you promise not to call me El again. She grinned at Sol. They were now face to face. She took the moment to look into his deep green eyes. 00.00.00.00 they read numbers like all others did. Then she felt a pang of sillyness, what had she expected to see in his eyes? Emotions, color, maybe his very soul? But no. His eyes were the same as they had been the day she met him. Just another number counting back the days. She just hoped her number was shorter than his.

At that last thought the two gave each other one more look and then walked off to thier own seperate destinations, only then did Elliot truly ponder thei conversation, she just muttered, So he thinks my name is cute? and then laughed all the way back to her home.

Sol began to walk along the beach as the sun began it's tedious journey acrossed the sky towards daylight. For some reason he felt like smiling but he didn't remember why. Sol took a glance acrossed the beach and everything looked normal, what was there to smile about? Suddenly his smile faded and he realized that there was no one around him. No one being no Elliot. The boy's eyes darted along the whole beach and the water but there was no trace of the girl whatsoever. It was funny because he never went to the beach alone, he didn't usually have time even to go with Elliot. Sol's skin began to crawl as he felt something tugging at his heart. Something was terribley wrong, and at the moment he realized what, screams rang out from the water around him. Girl screams.

Sol wasn't sure what had happened next because he was running towards the water, towards a shape in the distance that was flailing like a mad carp. With sick realization he reconized the woman's face, and swam faster than before. He had to get to Elliot in time, otherwise...

He didn't have time to think of otherwise. He just had to swim. When he was finally within ten feet of Elliot he began to reach out. He was almost close enough to grab her hand whensomething pulled her under. Sol shouted, he seemed to scream. He tried to swim after her but he coulden't get bellow water level, he woulden't do anything. Even when Elliot was being dragged into the depths he still heard her screams. Even as he could no longer see nothing but her hand she still screamed, and then she was silenced.

Sol woke up in a cold sweat, breathing hard as if he had reall been there, in the water. It was still dark out, probley three or four in the morning. But he didn't care. He grabbed his cellphone and dialed Elliot. There was no answer. Sol tried again and there was a pause and then a groggy sounding

He... Hello? asked the voice of a still sleeping Elliot.

Are you ok? He blurted out.

No... She started, I was just woken up at 3:15 in the morning. I am not ok. Sol gave a sign of relief.

Sorry for calling so early. I just... Before he finished it occured to him that a bad dream might not sound really great, epsecially over the phone.I'll just talk to you tommorow, tell you then.

Ok whatever, just don't make this a habbit, k?

Go back to bed. Said Sol in a meloncholy voice. The phone on the other end hung up and Sol just lay in bed telling himself over and over, it's just a dream. But maybe, just maybe it wasn't.

About Reyn

Hiya :) Reyn here!

I'm a home grown chicken farmer from the US, always ready for adventure! Off neopets I love to hang out with my birds, annoy siblings, debate random people and that sort of stuff. I also tend to train my pokemon heart gold team along with catching up on the episodes on anime I missed. I love school because I only have two class-mates (That's right, Reyn is homeschooled.) and I get to wear PJ's to class :D

On neo I like to draw art for my pets, roleplay in the summer, write, try to figure out how to restock, stock market, and all those creative things :-) And of course you know I lurk amungst the PC boards constantly, never missing app chats. I've been on neo for somewhere around 5 years (?) I go on every day and spend a few hours typing.

3. The next day Elliot got up and yawned. First things first, she checked her cell phone for any new texts or messages. There was one from Sol, she instatly deleted it thinking it was just a message he left her last night. Oh yeah! Last night? She wondered, what had been wrong with Sol? Elliot didn't let the topic daunt her long because Artemis, her little sister, came bursting in to her room.

Elli! Elli! The waves are perfect today for surfing. The thirteen year old still tugged on her older sister. Elliot sighed and then asked,

So why don't you go surf huh? Then quickly she added in a bored tone And why can't anyone call me by my name?

Geez Elliot, don't be so dumb. I mean, come on it's only Saturday. You know? They day mom and dad are gone from the household, Duh. The young teen gave her older sister a dumb look to enphisis her point. Elliot smiled a sly grin.

And you're calling you're ride dumb? Elliot gave her a sarcastic look.

Elliot... She said taking the older sisters hand into her own, then she began to stroke it. Did I ever tell you what an amazing sister you are? Elliot gave something similar to a snort in reply. Then just shook rolled her eyes once. You have five minutes to grab your board, eat, get dressed... But Elliot coulden't finish the sentace because Artemis was already tumbling half way down the stairs of the house. Elliot sighed, it was about time for her to leave anyway.

Within less than ten minutes the twosome where in the car and singing to the morning radio. Artemis laughed and then said, Don't let Sol hear your singing Elli, or you may just be out of a friend. Elliot gave a smack to a deserving girl.

When they reached the beach Artemis hoped out the car, grabbed her board and was in the water.

2.3 secounds. Not bad Arty, not bad. Laughed Elliot setting out a lawn chair to watch her dear sister.

Hey Elli, if you're not scared why don't you come in the water? Taunted Atremis flailing her arms like a fish after her first whipe out of the day.

I am scared.. Of you. She retorted putting on some sunscreen. It was embarassing enough to have to babysit your thirteen year old siter. Making herself look like an idiot in the water didn't sound too appealing. Elliot watched the sun move into it's ten o-clock stance. The light seemed to dance over the waves like little ballerina. Elliot whiped a hand over her face, the sun was getting hot. It may not be terrible if she just took a quick dip. The girl looked around the beach, there were very few people here even on such a nice day. She got up and walked to the water, it was suprisingly nutural tempreture. Elliot got in and quickly adapted to the slight cold of the water, oh how she loved the feeling of it. The gravity of water was amazing in her eyes, she was born to swim though ELliot would never admit it. Elliot moved out further into the sea and saw a small dot running around on the beach. After a moment of ajusting her eyes to the distant sunlight she saw the figure of what appeared to be Sol. She laughed to herslef. What a boy. He was waving his arms franticly and shouting something but she coulden't hear it, she decided to inturupt her little swim and pattled toward the shore. The moment Elliot did so she squeaked. Something had touched her leg, she could sware. Goose bumps began to run along her skin, she had a bad feeling. She had to get out.

4. Elliot was now very scared, something had touched her again. It was kinda slimy, yet clingy. As a child she had seen the creature of the black lagoon, she didn't want to live it. Elliot began to paddle faster and faster, something kept touching her. Finally as she was coming into what she considered to be a safer part of the oceon the creature grabbed her and began to drag the girl under. Sol dove into the water and swam towards the fight that was taking place. Elliot was kicking whatever it was, trying to pry it off with a foot now and then. Just as the creature had gripped both her legs, Elliot screaming hysterically, Sol grabbed her arms and fought back. As a result the creature let go at the feel of the new force, and it appeared to swim away. Elliot and Sol swam towards the beach where Artemis was screaming for them. When the could finally touch sand a claw arose from the sea and grabbed Sol, dragging him back in the water, then under.

The rest was a blur of trying to find Sol, he wa sin and out of the water. Elliot and Artemis could do very little to help him but try and hold on to his arms. Finally after a great deal of struggling they won their comrad back and ran back as far as they could to the sand. Artemis was the first to whip out her cell phone and dial the police.

Sol, Sol you need to keep your eyes on me. Quivered Elliot trying to sooth the boy on the sand. His eyes were daring to shut, but Elliot called them back open. The boy was in terrible shape, something had drew gashes all along hes legs and lower body. He was losing a lot of blood. He was fading fast. His vision, his hearing. Neither Elliot or Sol remembered when the ambulance got here, just that it did. Elliot was shaking terribley as the ambulance drove away. She was in the medical car as it sped pst stop lights. All she could do was pray her best friend would be alright, and boy did she pray.
I want to see him! She shouted. Let me see him! Tears now drenched her face and she collapsed in the hospital lobby as the doctor had to give the bad report. Elliot was terrified at what the elderly man had just said. They were lies, all of them. They had to be. The doctor was trying to think of what to do but he really coulden't, so he lightly touched her on the shoulder.

It's not all over yet, he's still alive and kicking. But I doubt he will live to see tweenty after the attack. Elliot shoved the hand away and stood up.

He will. She said looking down on the doctor with an almost scary rage. Now when can I see him. The doctor sighed then gave in.
I'm not supposed to do this, but I can see you care. The doctor got up and opened the door slightly. Then Elliot bulldozed throught the rest of it. The girl gasped and then the door closed behind her.

Sol lay nearly motionless on a hospital bed. The boy's usual tan skin had turned an other-worldly white yet his face was flushed bright red. His chest rose up and down and he seemed to fight for every breath. Eliiot felt herself stumbling back into the wall then sliding down to the floor. The girl held her legs close to her and sobbed. The doctor was wrong she knew it, there was no way Sol would make it to his twentyith birthday. He'd be lucky to make it a year. Elliot tried to calm herself down after she had cried all the tears she could. But she just coulden't even look at him. The she heard a raspy breath say in an almost inaudible voice.

El? Then he coughed a few times, then cought his breath. Elliot looked up at the flushed face across the room. She smiled weakly

So you're finally up, took you long enought. Sol smiled at the comment. The same smile he had always had. Elliot realized her Sol wasn't different, he would be fine so long as he stayed himself through all of this. She knew he coulden't talk right now but she didn't need him to. The smile was enough to calm her down fromt he violant shaking and downpour of sobs.

Plans of a crazy woman.
