Hey everyone! This is finished for now but I might update it in the future.
This petpage is dedicated to the profiles and other info about the Altador Cup Managers. These characters are in no way official/canon. They were just fan made to accompany the team players, especially in my Neopian Times Series, The Off Season. This page is designed for viewing on Chrome and Firefox. It's decent enough on IE,though. Please point out any typos if you see them. Most of these were written late at night. :P |
|
Managers are the under-appreciated guys behind the scenes who work all year buried under paperwork. Most have assistant managers, others don't. (I'm going to draw these assistants some other time) Some take double duty as coaches on the field, or maybe even triple duties! They're always traveling across Neopia looking for promising new talents... Things like that. The majority of the managers are ex-players themselves, even Yooyuball legends. I'll also be making various references to bits of the modern history of Yooyuball, which spans about 70 years and is also not canon. I'll write more on that sometime. :P For the purpose of integrating the managers some AC players might also have some info added to them. And now, the moment you've been waiting for... |
Altador |
|
Umm, I'm changing this I guess.
|
Brightvale |
He's not much of a player himself since he's sluggish and easily tired, however he's a keen observer and is still capable of coaching the team on the field. He enjoys the game as much as studying it. He is very patriotic, preaching to his team about important Brightvalian scholars of times past. He doesn't entirely approve of King Hagan's obligatory studying laws, though, and was devastated when the Team was forced out of AC IV. He occasionally ends up making the team to go through the books, though. Caspar is a leader to his team and also to other teams. He is an advocate of unity and sportsmanship among all the teams. He's gone through great lengths to prevent his team from cheating and together with help from Team Captain "Squeaky" Tressif managed to change the team for the better.
|
Darigan |
Darigan's manager, Guilenn Airax, is probably the most professional among the managers. No buttons undone, no files out of place, no practical jokes and no nonsense. Joking around will be met with a serious reply. He always fends for himself with words, never physically. He is usually stoic. Together with his twisted appearance, he can prove to be very intimidating to those unaccustomed to seeing him. That all changes, however, when it comes to fangirls. Those accursed fangirls. Everyday, during the Altador Cup season, his office in the Colosseum is overrun by rabid Tandrak Shaye fangirls. When he runs out of restraining orders, it's time to throw down those files, kiss the ring on his finger ("Sorry, dear, I hope you won't mind if I go kicking girls...") then get into action. Airax is very critical of his team. Even when met with a win, he still criticizes them if he knows that they can do better. |
Faerieland |
Sethi always gets everything done on time, sometimes in advanced. Though she is subtle when it comes to approaching others she herself can take a big beating without backing down. She has problems generally motivating her team to do better and is often criticized harshly for it. She however acknowledges her flaws and is genuinely concerned of them. She just makes slow progress fixing these, though. She is very well loved by most of the Cup players. Her sympathetic nature has won over even the more hard-headed players.
|
Haunted Woods |
He has been accused of numerous dark crimes. He is hated by most high-ranking officials and even by royalty all over Neopia. He's not in prison yet, and nobody's surprised. Montresor Athello, simply called Montres by most, is crafty. That was an understatement. He's been sued numerous times and came out each time not a penny poorer... and he was his own defense attorney. In fact, he's managed to turn the tables multiple times... Let's say everybody's afraid to accuse him of anything now. He's the perfect one to handle Team Haunted Woods. With a Werekyrii, a zombie, and a vampire on the team shady business is unavoidable. Everybody knows Montres is a criminal, but he is yet to leave any evidence. It's probably a good idea to avoid him. Despite being very well-mannered, Sir Athello is incredibly strong and can easily take down several bodies. He also has amazing handwriting. |
Kiko Lake |
Look at me. Look at the tie. Tell me what its colors are: green, brown, and black. Now tell me what Team Maraqua's colors are... That's right, bronze and blue. Now, look at my badge. What is it? Is it a Jetsam, a Flotsam or a Koi? No, It's a Kiko. If you think I'm Maraqua's manager, you're either blind or an idiot. He's proud of being a Maraquan, though, he just hates people who bother him for Elon Hughlis's autograph or something. Despite his patriotism however he is completely unbiased on the Yooyuball field, and is willing to teach the members of Kiko Lake how to beat down his homeland's team if necessary. You can count on him to do anything; He may be often relaxed and casual but he is responsible and industrious. He's typically the one livening the workplace with his broad collection of (somewhat corny) jokes.
|
Krawk Island |
Unknown to many outside her team, Mrs. Raylash was once known on the Yooyuball field as "Scurvy. Yes, "Scurvy" Raylash, one of the greatest defenders of all time. She however retired from the field due to age while passing captain duties to "Dasher" Soley. Team Krawk Island was in a bit of a slump for the years afterward, becoming beloved losers in the Yooyuball world. "Scurvy" Raylash then returned to the team as a manager after learning of the coming Altador Cup I. To the surprise of some veteran pre-AC Yooyuball fans, the pirate team's standings shot up. Originally the success was attributed to Raylash, however she later admitted that she wasn't very active in coaching the team and mostly kept to paperwork. The success had nothing to do with her, and was all the work of the team itself. Tylanne isn't known to be modest; in fact she's one big gloat. So it has to be true. Raylash isn't entirely nice, heck, she has a sailor's mouth. She's never serious, even if she's often quiet. Although she was a very aspiring leader figure in her past days today she has lost some interest in actually leading the team, and is only there to help them with more legal matters. Her glory days may be long past, but to her team she remains a source of inspiration. She may not be a leader anymore, but she knows how to encourage others to become leaders. When she knows it matters she will give her team that one push to help them. She may not act a lot, but ultimately she makes a difference.
|
Kreludor |
He spent most of his life surrounded by Grundos. Grundos, Grundos, everywhere. Orange Grundos. He lived in the commercial area though, so he often saw visitors from Neopia. No trees, nothing but rock. Maybe he somehow turned into a rock because of that. He was born a normal Cybunny. He turned Relic under gradual, strange, probably supernatural circumstances. There was the ever-lingering worry about Dr. Sloth, who may or may not have a significant grip over Kreludor. After one major scare, however, his family decided to go back to Neopia. That's all Samil says about his past... and that's probably all he's going to say. Samil's just plain different. Even after many years on Neopia, it's safe to say that he's not accustomed to the stronger gravity pulling him down. The air, richer to most, is to him tainted. Samil is a loner, only ever getting to know his family really well. As for interaction with his team, well, he knows the basic facts about them since it's a necessity, but he never has emotional talks with them. He kinda considers Qyldae and Zenor his friends, but hey, they're Grundos. He's manager, however, because of his knowledge and work ethics. Samil is an expert on the gravity alteration systems and other various technologies required to simulate Neopian conditions on the moon. Furthermore, he's very focused in doing his job. Even if he doesn't talk much his ideals have somehow leaked into the team anyway, turning them into admirable and disciplined players. Nobody likes him. Nobody hates him either. He doesn't care. |
Lost Desert |
He's still has to iron out some of his skills for Yooyuball, since he's more accustomed to playing a more ancient version made way before the sport's modern revival. He's less of a coach however, and is mostly there to settle criticisms coming from his homeland to the Team. A problem Team Lost Desert had for many years is that, well, it doesn't really represent the Lost Desert. Ever since it was first established, Team "Lost Desert" was more of a Team Sakhmet. This wasn't much of a problem since many of the Yooyuball fans in the Lost Desert were Sakhmetian anyway, and those who weren't were from more obscure desert states that probably were influenced by Sakhmetian cultures anyway. With the return of Qasala however, the team was attacked with accusations of prejudice. The Team itself doesn't have a problem with the Sakhmetian bias, even if it is composed of players of various backgrounds. Qa has caught the suspicions of some others in the Altador Cup scene. He has sometimes been spied talking to mysterious figures, though cases like these were often ignored as the good-mannered manager is never really seen as a threat.
|
Maraqua |
Pitallo's an excellent coach to his team and excellent with the papers, but when it comes to relations it all falls apart. He tries to get the team to cooperate with the captain, but usually ends up arguing with Elon himself. He has an estranged relationship with his team, though, not just with Mr. Hughlis. Most Maraquans are very proud of their land, and for the right reasons: After a great whirlpool devastated them, they worked for years to build up anew. New Maraqua is a gorgeous place, and it always feels good to know that you helped make it that way. But Mr. Ysovechz doesn't have that pride. Born to a rich family, he has always lived a comfortable life. That all changed with the whirlpool, and he couldn't take it. He swam off to Mystery Island for the time being, building up his own fortunes... He didn't want to care about Maraqua anymore. He didn't want to deal with what has changed. When New Maraqua was discovered however, he was obliged to return. He was a massive Yooyuball fan in the past, and sought to reestablish Team Maraqua after the whirlpool destroyed the original team. He only did so for old time's sake however, not for the glory of Maraqua being represented in a sport. He's often away from home, usually 'for business reasons. It took him several years to even dare look at the Ruins of Old Maraqua once more. He often feels too guilty to smile.
|
Meridell |
Yes, unknown to many, this old timer was in his days the center of the Yooyuball world. He was born during the modern revival of Yooyuball and his childhood revolved around the game. After some years training on his own he proved to be a promising forward, and was signed unto Team Meridell. Yooyuball teams at the time were a bit hard to stabilize though, so though most talented as a forward he often had to rotate his position in the team. For many years he never had a big break, and sat in the shadows. That changed when he became Team Captain, and placed Meridell in the 3+1 Offense+Defense positions it's known for, with himself at the spotlight position of center forward. His skills were eventually noticed, and why not? He was unbeatable, after all. It was a sad, sad day when he finally retired. Almost a hundred wins. No losses. A single draw. His story is like that of "Scurvy" Raylash. He too returned to help his team when the first Altador Cup came. He's not too rusty, either, and though old he is still capable of short bursts of speed and incredibly accurate aim. ("They didn't call me 'Archer' for nuthin.'") He too serves as an inspirational figure. Ignored by most, he's revered by those who first knew him as The Archer. |
Moltara |
LEEEERRROOOOYYYY JENK- oh, um, sorry, that would be Leeroy. Pronounced the same, regardless. Leroy hails from a small village lost in the Endless Plains. This small village happens to be smack in the middle of where the modern revival of Yooyuball occurred, and many from here are more than capable players, among them Leroy. He's an all-around talent on the field and has had quite an impressive professional career. Obviously, however, there's no "Team Endless Plains." He's keen to learn and keen to teach, though. When the officials Moltara were looking forward to establish a team for the Altador Cup, Leroy immediately offered to take on a coaching role. He's also decided to double as a manager for the time being, but he's pretty weak with the paperwork. He's never relieved of double-duty however... Generally, the good managers are from outside Moltara, and generally, the managers from outside Moltara aren't accustomed to dealing with folks made up of molten rock. It's a dangerous job, really. As for the bandage, well, Tulah got angry and didn't have her gloves on at the time. Ouch.
|
Mystery Island |
Now, you see, Team Mystery Island has a manager curse. Yes, as silly as it is, it's there. If there isn't a manager, the team gets the curse of bad luck. The poor manager who does happen to get the job will probably face an early demise.
The therapy may seem to have worked out but while Niko is often very formal and charming he has a split personality and can easily turn into a fanatic preaching about the so-called "Great Feathered Hissi" of the long-dead Geraptiku Kingdom. He believes that he is divinely inspired. He may or may not be psychic. When he's in 'normal mode' he's a very competent and professional manager. He almost never works when his fanatic side is triggered. He occasionally however conjures up finished paperwork. Occasionally and accidentally. The reaction most have when meeting him: A mix of terrified and fascinated. |
Roo Island |
Keila's yet another ex-captain from when Team Roo Island was first formed. When the team was being retooled for the coming ACI, she surrendered her forward and captain position to Lilo Blumario, but continued to support the team by taking on the paperwork. But she's still the boss around here, and she knows it. When she tells you to wake up earlier or go on a diet, you better. No nonsense, no excuses. She's all about work and motivation. There's never an easy way out. She tries to get everyone- Yes, even folks from other teams, even fans, even the referee- to become hard-workers. During the Cup season she has zero free time, eating her lunch at the manager's office. She's not obsessed with working to the point of insanity, however, and while loves to work isn't very professional with her ethics in the office, and usually socializes on the job. Though pushy she's otherwise friendly, and her tactics do end up working. In the more relaxed off-season she travels around Neopia to look for new talents, but not while earning her break and stopping by the best hotels during these business trips. She's not a delicate lady at all, heck, far from it. Getting a punch in the pancreas never feels good.
|
Shenkuu |
Rinata's merrier than the Merry Marauders. She treats her team as a family and acts as you would expect a mother would to her young children. This even extends to former players (even the few that played Yooyuball before the Altador Cup) and other teams. She treats the team after some victories and chastises them whenever anything goes wrong. Though always busy she is always willing to take time to listen to others with problems and to help them get over it. She's got quite some all-around skill in Yooyuball, enough for basic coaching, but typically she calls upon other local professionals to accompany her during the off-season. She's also the one fighting off the criticism the team faces, and was especially active here during and after the AC V upsets. There are the quieter legal matters, too. Rumors of shady business particularly surround forward Foltaggio (that eye patch must mean something) and ex-player Turo Rafels, who left the team for health problems and later became a very wealthy businessman quite quickly. She's not sure where that wealth came from, either, but frankly she doesn't really care. She's a food connoisseur. |
Terror Mountain |
Thus everyone was surprised when he entered the second Altador Cup with a straight face. Taggin Oskill is now incredibly paranoid, apparently convinced that ex-player Almadaira is out to get him. He often goes through insane lengths to hide from her, and some say he once paid a large amount to build a secret hiding spot somewhere in the colosseum which was then supposedly closed off since it posed a bit of a hazard.
Taggin is incredibly rich, investing wisely in stocks using the money earned from when he was a member of the original Team Terror Mountain. After the original captain retired the team disbanded, despite Taggin's efforts to keep them together. He was a defender from those times. Years later he decided to reestablish Team Terror Mountain with brand new players, however he has had difficulty keeping the team together. He's learned from the past though... And not only that, this time he's got cash. |
Tyrannia |
Ekhui (E-kuy) of the Taggo family group, who is from the Tyrannian village of the Ayutja. Okay, fine, her legal papers have Canda Radakho on them for the sake of being easier to say. Canda had a dream to turn a bunch of players long perceived as incompetent into a team (a real team, absolute emphasis on team) of warriors. Thus, with help from her many assistants acting as talent scouts, put together the Forsaken Five. Well, but that didn't work out entirely. After years of keeping the team's line-up the same, criticism finally made her break up the Five by trading one player. Still, her efforts have brought out qualities in her team that otherwise could have been wasted away, especially Loryche's leadership. Perhaps her plan failed but while trying to fulfill it she accomplished many other triumphs. She remains hopeful in the future and still applies her team beliefs somehow, and has accepted that changes every now and them can be beneficial. Canda acts as a teacher to the almost illiterate Tyrannians, and also aids them in the usage of more modern technology. She's also a philanthropist. Tyrannians are easily satisfied on the littlest of pay, though Yooyuball players often have large grants from Altador's tourism department. Oftentimes she convinces her team to donate the extra money. She's very outgoing and hangs out with the fans sometimes. Like any true Tyrannian, she's a lover of music. |
Virtupets |
His parents were joining in on the family business of spreading vending machines across Neopia, but he like many other young Alien Aishas at the time decided to tackle a different job. At the time there was another burst of renewed interest in the sport, and he learned Yooyuball with ease and after only a few years became a young professional under the name of Yg Savick which he is now more often called. Due to his interstellar nature however Yg, nicknamed Iggy, generally doesn't get along with the rest of the team and often jumped from one squad to another. He was at his most famous however when he was on the now-disbanded Team Neopia Central. Savick also held a keen interest in robotics. After grabbing a major Yooyuball award he decided to keep his job on the field on hold to pursue another career. He gained a fortune during his time as an independent robotics engineer. He later took on a risky, expensive, but potentially very rewarding commission. It became a failure, however, as he used up all the money given to him for the project and most of his own. He might have completed it, however one of his past inventions- a sentient robot- that impressed his employers in the first place ran off after Savick attempted to salvage some spare parts. The Alien Aisha, once richer than most can ever hope to be, went bankrupt. Desperate for a job, he decided to affiliate with Virtupets. Savick has always been opposed to Virtupets' business as his parents always told him to stay away from the Corporation, but Savick's reputation as an engineer was badly shaken by the incident and no one else would hire him. He attempted to return to his past job, but unfortunately he was a forgotten legend in the Yooyuball world. Savick was far past his prime and deprived of practice and was turned down from squads in favor of younger talents. After his Virtupets employers learned of his impressive Yooyuball history, though, they decided to force him into managing, coaching, and maintaining the robots on the Virtupers Yooyuball Team. He's underpaid and overworked, and he absolutely loathes his job. He doesn't get along well with his team, obviously. He always lacks sleep and is grouchy in the workplace. He drinks nothing but coffee. He never learned how to tie a tie, well, maybe he did, but he just can't be bothered.
