KeyQuest Tokens

KeyQuest has grown into one of the largest, most enjoyed areas of Neopets. Every day people swarm to play games to earn nps, neggs, codestones, paint brushes, map pieces and more! There is also a new wave of craze to it as well - KeyQuest tokens. A KeyQuest token is a unique game piece that Neopians can get through various methods to use in game. Your selected token will represent you on the game board. Everyone enjoys showing off their individuality, and TNT has definitely provided for that. There are over 100 different tokens currently available. Below is a guide to how to buy them, use them and even later - trade them.

What are Tokens?

Tokens are virtual characters you can use during a game of KeyQuest. At the time of this guide, there are six series of regular tokens, one series of royal tokens, a set of starter tokens (only receive one), special tokens and one series arriving soon. There are also a few special tokens you can receive in various ways. If you're interested in all the tokens that are available, view your Collector's Case, and browse through it.

How do I get Tokens?

There are a few different ways to get tokens. Let's discuss them:

1. Starter Token: One of four tokens, your starter token will automatically be placed into your Collector's Case after your first game of KeyQuest. Check here to claim your free token, or see which one you have. You will have one of the following: Red Meerca, Yellow Poogle, Green Cybunny, or Blue Bruce.


2. NC Mall: This is a new facet to the Keyquest tokens. One many people hope will be continued. I have a whole section to explain the new NC Mall token and how to activate it for use.


3. TNT Releases: Sometimes TNT awards tokens through plots, site events and seasonal prizes. At this point, there have been three special tokens released: AAA, Ylana Skyfire and Abigail. They are listed under Special in your Collector's Case.


4. Trading Card Fun Pak: There are three tokens currently available through the Fun Pak cards. The codes come in random packs, and one code will give you either Jeran, Princess Amira or the Darkest Faerie as a game token. These are random, and many times people will receive multiples of one token, and never find the others.


5. Neopets 5" Plush: This is currently the most popular way to get KeyQuest tokens, and the one we will concentrate on further into the guide. Certain 5" plushies released have Virtual Prize Codes attached that can be redeemed for a game token that represents the plushie. View the Traditional Plushies and the Special Plushies in the Merchandise Catalog to see which plushies come with a redeemable KQ token code.

How do I find these Plushies?

The plushies can be found at many different stores, depending on the country you live in. Plushies sell for prices anywhere from $3.00(USD) to $8.99(USD). If you know of any other stores in particular countries that have Neopet Plushies in stock, feel free to contact me. For a basic list:

• USA: Target, Toys R Us, Walmart, Claire's, Limited Too, Kmart, Khol's
• Canada: Walmart, Claire's, Zellers
• New Zealand: The Warehouse, Farmers
• Australia: Target

Plushie Buying Tips

You read the above information and run out and buy some plushies at a store, put in the codes, and voila! - a new game token! Well, sometimes things don't always work out that way. Read through the tips below for valuable information BEFORE buying plushies.

• Plushies are usually located in the toy section near Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony displays.
• When you find 5" plushies, look for the attached tag. It is a star shaped tag inside a plastic cover and it will be tied to the plushie with a ribbon. I should also have a plast tag through it as well.
• First, make sure the tag says Keyquest Virtual Prize Code.

• Make sure that the tag matches the plushie it is attached to.
• Make sure the ribbon is tied tight, the plastic cover is not cut, etc.
• If it looks like it's been tampered with in any way, there is a possibility someone stole the code and used it. Be cautious of buying any plushies like this.
• If everything looks good, go ahead and buy the plushie!

How to Enter the Code

Now, you've gotten your token home and you're ready to use it! Take the tag out of the plastic, and open it up. There will be a 15-digit code inside. (*Note: All plushies seem to start with a "J" in the code) Go to KeyQuest to redeem your code. You will get a pop-up box that looks similar to this:

That means you receive a token for your Collector's Case and you receive one virtual prize. To see a complete listing of virtual prizes available from each token, visit my Token Pize List.

How to use your token during the game

You have a spiffy new token, so how to use it? Visit your Collector's Case and click on the Neopets tab to take your main token collection area. At the top, you'll see Series tabs. Choose the correct one. Now, find your token and click on it. You will get an image like this:

Click on "KeyQuest Quick List." This will make that token available for game play. You can select up to 8 tokens to have available for game play at a time.

You can also choose to Add to "Favorites." You can access your favorites quickly by clicking on . To get to your Quicklist to edit the tokens there, click on . The tokens in your Favorites are not the same as the tokens in your Quicklist, unless you choose to make it that way.

Select a Token for Gameplay

When you enter the KeyQuest Games, choose a game room. Look in the top left corner of the screen for something that looks like this:

You can click on the Quicklist button and you will get a drop-down list of all the tokens currently on your Quicklist. Choose your token of choice. Now, go play some KeyQuest!! The token you chose will be your game piece during play. If you leave the whole keyquest area, your game piece will automatically shuffle to a different one, so if you like using a certain token, always make sure it's selected before entering a game.

Token Trading

Token trading has becoming a thing of it its own. Every day you can visit the KeyQuest Boards and find tons of threads like: "Tokens UFT" "Looking for Series x" and "Token Trading Center." Lots of people out there are interested in tokens they can't get in their area. So, they buy up tokens they can get access to, and trade off the unused codes for tokens they want. Sometimes people come along and try to spoil the system by offering bad codes or other such scenarios. So, this guide is here to explain about Tokens Trading and Scammers.

Token Trading??!?

I don't know when this became popular, but I'm sure it was around the time TNT answered an Editorial about NC Mall Item trades. They said that trading NC Mall Items for other NC Mall Items was fine. It just wasn't allowed that you trade NC Mall Items for NPs/Neopoint Items/Pets. Becuase, it is dealing with virtual prizes gained from real money, and "buying/selling NPs/Items/Pets is NOT allowed." So, someone decided that token trading falls under these guidelines too. Unused token codes can be traded for other unused token codes.

How do I do that?

First, acquire some plushies that have KQ Virtual Codes. The codes must be UNUSED. Then, go to the KeyQuest Chat and either a) Look for threads where people are offering tokens UFT (up for trade) or b) Create your own thread advertising your tokens.

To get the best feedback from other token traders, here's the key points:

• List the tokens you have for trade.
• List the tokens you are looking for, in order of preference.
• Specify if you're willing to trade multiple tokens for Limited Edition or hard-to-find tokens.
• List any other stipulations you feel need to be met before you'll trade with someone (i.e. They have x amount of tokens in their case, they offer their code first, etc.)

Once you have your tokens listed, be patient! So many people get anxious for an immediate response. This doesn't always happen, for a number of reasons. The boards could be slow at that particular time, the token you have for trade is not needed by anyone at the moment, no one has any of the tokens on your wanted list, etc. Please don't keep bumping your board to the top of the list. If it's near the middle of the page or about to go to the second page, bump it up. Otherwise, people will get annoyed with your impatience and be wary of trading with you. If you're really in that much of a hurry, why not just use the tokens yourself?

When you get an offer that you think is fair, make sure that you do the following:

• Look at the prospective trader's token case. If it's empty or private, be careful of your trades with them. They should be willing to offer their code first, if not, DO NOT trade with them.
• If you feel satisfied that their account looks genuine, meets your standards, etc. then you're ready to deal!
• Neomail the prospective trader and repeat the trade to make sure it is clear (and you have proof) on both sides what will be traded and who will go first.
• After neomail confirmation, the person who will send their code first neomails the other person the code. You should list the Token name with the code as well (i.e. Plushie Wocky: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). The person receiving the code redeems it. They then send a neomail back whether the code worked or not (by this step, you should be pretty confident it will be a good code) and sends their code.
• Once the trade is complete, post on the thread that it was a successful trade and update your list of tokens UFT and wanted list.

Scenario 1: Nita has a Pink Korbat token code. Alyson has a Purple Scorchio token code. They both want what the other person has. Nita makes a board advertising her token. Alyson responds with the token she has to trade. Nita looks at Alyson's case and sees she has lots of tokens and her account is nice. She thinks this would be a good trade. Nita also notes that Alyson's account is older. So, Nita neomails Alyson and says, "You offered Purple Scorchio for my Pink Korbat. Are you still interested in trading? I would be willing to send my code first b/c I am a new trader and you have an older account and more tokens than me." Alyson responds, "Yes, your Pink Korbat for my Purple Scorchio. Send your code, I will put it in to make sure it works fine and then send you mine." Nita now has confirmation that both parties know EXACTLY what is being traded and who will send the code first.

Other Tips

Over the course of token trading, some ideas have been developed that can help a trader get the best deal for their tokens. These tips will also help keep you safe from potential scammers who try to ruin token trading for everyone.

• There is no set rule about who gives a token code first, but here's some things to keep in mind:
  a) If they are an older account and have more tokens, you should send your code first.
  b)If they have less tokens than you (especially under 10-15), even if their account is older, you should request they send their code first.
• Not all aged accounts will agree to this, so:
  If they have no special tokens (no matter the age of the account) and they insist that you send your code first, DO NOT TRADE!!
• Invite neomailed offers to post on your board (you should have a board) with their trade offer, and vice versa. This gives lots of proof as to what is being traded.
• Verify through neomail with the other person exactly what token(s) is being traded for what token(s).
• Do not deal with anyone trying to offer NPs, items, pets, etc. Only UNUSED token codes can be traded.
• Remember, ALL token codes start with "J." Most start with J0 or J1. If someone sends you a code that starts with anything other than that, BE WARY!
• Make sure the person's still there before sending a code. This should be covered if you send them a neomail first to confirm the trade, but some people overlook that part.
• Always check their token case. If it's locked and they have only a couple tokens then be suspicious. If they have played only a couple games be suspicious. If they have not played any games it is more than likely a side account contacting you.
• Look out for the "too good to be true" neomailed offers. The person doesn't post on your board, and suddenly you have a neomail that they have a token that is retired and very hard to find, that you're desperate to get. You respond that you're interested and they want you to send your code first. Immediately check out their case. Don't get caught up in the thought that you're getting a "good deal." It's probably someone attempting to scam you.
• Be careful of: The beggar turned scammer - people who post on free token boards, saying "they can't afford it, parents won't buy them plushies, they're from country without access, etc. Then all of a sudden they post they are trading and have several tokens within an extremely short time frame.

Identifying Scammers

We all like to think that people are nice all the time on Neopets, but the truth is that there are some very mean people out there that get some sort of crazy pleasure from scamming others. There are some key points that we want everyone to be aware of that tend to identify a scammer. The scammers are getting smarter every day (probably reading this guide, too!), and so we must take cautious measures every time we deal with them.

Eight Signs that Say "Scam!

1. Someone wants to trade with you, but they only have 1-3 tokens and their cased is private.
2. They have nice tokens for trade, but have no tokens in their case.
3. They send you a neomail out of the blue that they have (insert hard to find, coveted token name here) to trade, and they're interested in your (insert easy to find, not worth much token here).
4. They insist you should send your code first, yet their account looks like a shell or a side.
5. When you say you'll only trade if they send theirs first because (insert reason - trusted trader, have 70 tokens, older account, etc) and they suddenly stop responding to your neomails.
6. People have boards up about receiving similar neomails - all from the same person. All the tokens they have for trade are different in each neomail.
7. They refuse to post on the boards and have made no board of their own.
8. They asked for a free token one day (or hour) and posted a board that they have lots for trade another day (or hour).

Screen Shots

We're compiling screenshots that will help you identify scammers as well. The scammer usually offers hard to find tokens for easy to find tokens in one to one trades. We have left some usernames on the screen shots. These usernames are people we recommend that you DO NOT TRADE with. We have substantial evidence that they are scammers. If I receive a warning from TNT, I will remove their names, but I believe they want us to be safe on the site. The names that are visible have repeatedly attempted to contact users.

Fun Pak Tokens

What are Fun Pak Tokens?

Fun Pak Tokens are special rare tokens you can get from Fun Paks. To see what the paks look like, go here. In each pack of the cards, you receive the following items: 1 sticker sheet, 1 tattoo sheet, 1 Virtual Prize Code, 1 activity sheet, 1 Sweepstakes Card.
The regular Virtual Prize code is *sometimes* replaced with a special "Something Has Happened" Prize Code. THIS is the KeyQuest prize code.
When you redeem a Gold SHH code, you receive ONE of the following tokens: Jeran, Amira or Darkest Faerie. There is no way to know which of the three you will recieve. It is completely random.

Where do I buy them?

Fun Paks are only available at Target. They are located somewhere in the toy section. I found some on the end of an isle on a rack at the bottom. If you can't find them, speak with an employee. You can give them a DCPI number and they can look and see if they have any in stock.
You can buy the Fun Paks in these quantities in the stores: Single Pack, Two Pack and Four Pack. If you're really dedicated to getting all three of the special tokens, I would recommend you go online to a common auction site and look up the boxes of 24 packs. This gives you the most packs for the least amount of money when you count the individual cost. So, if you plan to invest $30 in the packs, just get the 24 pack. They do not sell them in Target stores in this quantity. They are only obtainable ONLINE_

Just how RARE are these?

If you're a true collector, you'll probably (like me) invest heavily in gaining tokens for your case. Don't be surprised when you shell out $60 for two boxes and end up with 4 Princess Amira and 5 Prince Jeran. It is very very difficult to get the SHH cards to get these tokens. And when you do find them, you tend to get multiples. It can be frustrating.
I've personally opened about 74 packs now, and gotten 7 SHH in all those packs. I've asked others who opened them as well. From the data I've gathered, about every 6-8 packs gives a rare SHH card.

Those odds aren't good

No, the odds are not very good. There is ONE more option for you to try, if you don't like taking a chance and buying the packs.
There are a few retailers on an auction site that sell just the codes for the SHH packs. They usually sell for around $10-15.

Do you have questions about your token case and how to get different themes? Check out this petpage. Themes for token cases come from special Boxed NC cash. Boxed NC cash is ONLY available at Target. They are usually located near the Jumbo Plush.

Jumbo Plush

I've seen a few people on the boards ask about the jumbo plush. Jumbo plush DO NOT give Key Quest tokens. They DO come with virtual prize codes, but they don't have the extra benefit of providing a token for you to use. Please, please keep this in mind when you are buying plushies. The only plushies that come with Key Quest tokens are the 5" plush with the description I've previously listed

Frequently Asked Questions

I bought a Fun Pak 4-count, but I didn't get a SHH card! Why not?!?!?

When you buy a fun pak, you're NOT garaunteed to get the Gold SHH card that will give you a keyquest token.

I live in _______ (outside US). I can only find Series 3 tokens. Are they going to release more here?

Unfortunately, if you live in a country outside the US, you probably won't be seeing anymore series plushies. Apparently, because of the theft of tags, the manufacturer is hard pressed to find ANY stores willing to carry Neopets Plush.

Do I need to get the items listed on Sycotic's page to get a keyquest token? I bought them all in shops and can't figure out how to make them into the token

The PRIZES listed on Sycotic's page are the Virtual Prize you receive when you: buy a 5" plushie from a local retailer like Walmart or Target. When you enter your code, you receive: Virtual Prize Item and a Key Quest Token. You have to buy a plushie with REAL money to get the tokens.

So, I have to spend MONEY to get Key Quest Tokens?!?!?

No, you don't have to spend a penny if you don't want to! The Neopets site gives out special tokens during site events. If you participate in the event on the day(s) a token is given out, you will receive one of the special tokens to use.

I live in a country that does not sell Neopets items at all. I want some of the tokens from plush, but when I looked at some auction sites, the shipping to my country was RIDICULOUS!

Now, you can find quite a few tokens for sale on auction sites that are codes only, with free shipping. This is a nice option for those who would really like to have a token but don't want to pay the exorbitant fees of shipping. If you're really interested, I can give you a specific sellers name. They are very reputable and I'm 100% positive their codes are not stolen. They sell TONS of Neopets stuff.

Token Demand

Lately, longtime token traders have been noticing a few other traders taking advantage of new traders by offering unequal trades. This is NOT nice. We don't want people taken advantage of. So, we're bringing you something new! It is just a beta thing, until we see how it works and get the kinks out. All plushies/tokens will be give a value based on supply and demand.

For instance: Gold Shoyru (5) - Silver Aisha (3), Red Ixi (1), Orange Lupe (1), Yellow Kougra (1), Gold Blumaroo (2).
Nita has Gold Shoyru and is trading. Lilly has the other tokens. She would offer some combination of her tokens that would "equal" the Gold Shoyru b/c it's very difficult to find and a LOT of people need/want it.

Some tokens don't have any real trade value because there are SO many of them available. These have been denoted with **. It's recommended that you only purchase these plushies if you plan to use them for your own case. Otherwise, they're only good for other tokens of the same worth or added on to give your offer a little extra.

Please Note: All traders place a different value on tokens based on their own personal desire for them. This is just a guide! All trades must still be agreed upon by both parties. You decide what a token is worth to YOU!

My Trading Rules

I have secured almost all of my tokens for my case. This means that I am now on a mission to help my best friend complete her case. She needs mainly Series 1. I am also willing to help those who need tokens I have. If you're interested in any that I have to help you complete your collection, please neomail me about it. But I do have some rules about my trades.

• If I am trading with you for a token you need, but not one I need, and will be retrading it, you MUST have at least 50 tokens in your case.
• I do not give away tokens.
• I do not accept NPs/Items/Pets for my token codes.
• I will do multiples in trades.
• Do NOT spam my board. If you have serious questions, neomail me or check the KQ Help thread.
• If I have not traded with you before and you have less than 50 tokens, it must be for a code that will be tested immediately, and you must go first.

Neocash Tokens

What are NC Tokens?

Neopets has released something new in the NC Mall - a Keyquest token! This token is just like the other Keyquest tokens: redeem it and it goes into your case to use as a character during Keyquest games. To purchase this token, you will need Neocash.

Look under the special section of the NC Mall. Add it to your cart. View your cart and check out.



Visit your inventory and you will see the token is now there. The next thing you need to do is click on the token, bringing up this pop-up box of options.



As you can see, there are several options you have. You can put the token as it is into your gallery or your Safety Deposit Box. By doing either of these, you will NOT get the token in your collector's case for use.
If you chose to Unlock the Token, it will immediately go to your collectors case and you will get this screen:



Your token has been "redeemed" and the Angry Ferocious Negg is your prize. Now go back and view your inventory:



The prize for unlocking the NC Mall token is a wearable Neocash Item. This item can be placed in your closet, SDB or gallery. You can also gift this item using a Basic Gift Box.

Now you can access your token from your case. It is located in your case under the Special Section if you are having trouble finding it. The Angry Negg token is Dark Aligned, for those who are interested!

FAQ About NC Token

Q: How long will this token be available?
A: This token will be in the mall until November 11, 2009. Make sure you purchase it soon!

Q: Can I gift this token?
A: As long as the token has not been unlocked you can send it to someone using a Basic Gift Box. Once it has been activated, the only item you will have that can be moved will be the NC wearable prize from unlocking the token.

Q: Can I trade my unused token codes from plushies for this NC Mall token?
A: This question cannot yet be answered. I do not know. I would not recommend it at this time, since the prizes are different classes of item - one being NP, the other NC.
