Lulu's GuideMy bets are vaguely based off the way Hugo used to bet. When I started betting that was the guide I followed, but I eventually started putting twists on his bets to be a bit riskier. I can't guarantee you won't lose money if there's an upset, but when they pay off it's really nice.
The basics of food club is that there are 5 arenas with 4 pirates in each arena. They are going to compete in an eating competition. We are taking bets on who will win that competition. Each pirate has odds of winning, like if you were betting on a race. Better eaters have lower odds (say, a 1 in 2 chance of winning), and therefore a lower payout if they win. Worse eaters will give you more money if they win, but it's less likely (They have, say a 1 in 1 chance of winning). We get 10 bets every day, so we want to maximise our chances of winning with those 10 bets. Not all the bets will win (some days none of our bets will win!) but hopefully the ones that do win will earn us at least enough to go back and bet again. I always bet the highest amount I can on each bet (this amount is based on your account age), but you can start small (like 100 neopoints per bet) if you want.
Okay, let's get into it. When we refer to an arena as "safe", it means that there is one pirate with really low odds while the other 3 are high. This means the low odd pirate has a good chance of winning. When we make bets, we will therefore include the low odd pirate to multiply the winnings of higher odd pirates in win other arenas.
If you bet on more that one pirate, the odds will multiply. If I bet 10 np on a 2:1 pirate and they won, I would get a payout of 20np (10x2). But if I bet 10np on a 2:1 and a 5:1 pirate, the odds would be 10:1 and if they both win, I get 100np (10x10). For that to happen though, both pirates must win. If only one wins, I get nothing.
When there are more than one "safe arenas" (arenas with one low odds pirate and 3 high odds), we can put on "safeties". Imagine we had 2 arenas. Arena A has the odds 2:1, 13:1, 13:1, 13:1. Arena B has 2:1, 6:1, 13:1, 13:1. That 6:1 in B looks a bit risky, like they could win, so we put a bet on the 2:1 pirate from A, and the 6:1 pirate from B.
Now we're covered if that 6:1 pirate decides it wants to win the next round. But since the 2:1 is still more likely to win, so we will put most bets on him winning.
- Bet 1: A=2:1, B=6:1 (total odds: 12:1)
In this example, the other arena odds we will use are
- C 2:1, 2:1, 13:1, 13:1
- D 3:1, 4:1, 4:1, 5:1
- E 2:1, 3:1, 9:1, 13:1
So today, we would get our two nice arenas, A and B, and bet on the 2:1 pirates. We would combine those bets with pirates from these other arenas.
In arena C, we have two 2:1 pirates. They are both equally likely to win. (If you want to get a bit more specific, you can look at the food they will be served but that's more complicated so we won't go into that.)
So, we have our 2:1 pirates in A & B that we will include in each bet as multipliers.
We also have two 2:1 pirates in arena C, and two 13:1 pirates who are unlikely to win.
In this case, we will bet on the 2:1 pirates.
- Bet 2: A=2:1, B=2:1, C=2:1 (total odds: 8:1)
- Bet 3: A=2:1, B=2:1, C=2:1 (OTHER) (total odds: 8:1)
Since they all have close odds, they all have a decent chance at winning. We will bet on all of them.
- Bet 4: A=2:1, B=2:1, D=3:1 (total odds: 12:1)
- Bet 5: A=2:1, B=2:1, D=4:1 (total odds: 16:1)
- Bet 6: A=2:1, B=2:1, D=4:1 (OTHER) (total odds: 16:1)
- Bet 7: A=2:1, B=2:1, D=5:1 (total odds: 20:1)
In arena E, we can see there are two pirates most likely to win, with 2:1 and 3:1 odds. BUT, there is also a pirate with 9:1 odds. 9:1 is less likely to win, but they might. We would call that an "upset", and we want that to happen, because we would get lots of winnings if we cover that in our bets.
But we also don't want to miss out on winnings if one of the more likely winners wins. So we bet on them too.
- Bet 8: A=2:1, B=2:1, E=2:1 (total odds: 8:1)
- Bet 9: A=2:1, B=2:1, E=3:1 (total odds: 12:1)
- Bet 10: A=2:1, B=2:1, E=9:1 (total odds: 36:1)
This was all a hypothetical summary with examples of different types of arenas. You won't always have nice arenas and you won't always be able to make all the bets you want. Some days you might be better off not betting at all. These bets are a safer way of playing. I don't always follow this method when making my bets because I like to take risks and leave out safeties so I can cover the higher odds but that means upsets in my safe arenas can lead to me being completely out. In any case I hope this help anyone get into betting because it's really a great way to earn neopoints!
