This is a guide on how to train your pet's stats. Raising stats is necessary if you want to get anywhere as a battler. It can be a costly and frustrating process, but if you pay attention to what you are doing you can have a decently trained pet in a relatively short period of time.
These are the stats you have the option of training:
Level: Determines how high you can train your other stats. (see special note below) Course title: Level
Hit Points: Determines how much of a hit your pet can take. Course title: Endurance
Strength: Determines your pet's attack power. Course title: Strength
Defence: Determines how hard your opponent hits you. Course title: Defence
Movement: Seems to have little to no effect aside being necessary to use a few specific weapons. Course title: Agility
Intelligence: Seems to have little to no effect aside being necessary to use a few specific weapons. Course title: Cannot be trained through courses.
Special Note: If any stat except Hit Points or Intelligence is more than double your pet's current level, you will not be able to train in any other stat until you raise your pet's level. Hit Points can be trained at the Mystery Island Training School up to 3x your pet's current level, however to train any other stat the hit points cannot be more than 2x your pet's level. Intelligence is not factored in when determining what level your pet needs to be.
When you first arrive at the Academy you will see a menu like this near the top of the page.

Once you have selected a course and pet click the Start Course button and you will be taken to the 'Status' page.
On the status page you will see a list of your pets and their current stats shown in number form. It's sometimes easier to visit that page first so you can more easily tell which stat needs to be trained. When you have enrolled in a course it will also show what Dubloon Coin you need and give you the option of paying for the course to get it started or canceling the course. If you cancel the course the page reloads showing your pet without the options. You can then either 'Leave' the academy, which takes you back to the Explore Map, or go back to the 'Courses' page and choose another pet and course.
To start the course, make sure you have the required Dubloon in your inventory, then click 'Pay'. The status page will update and show how long your pet has to go before the course is complete.
You can go back to the status page at any time to see how long the course has left to run.
The 'Sayings' page is just a fun page to visit. Refresh it a few times to see Cap'n Threelegs say different things.

Other Ways to Raise Stats
Along with possibly changing the color, species, or gender of your neopet, the secret lab ray can also alter your pet's stats. The results are random, but over time you should find that it raises stats more than lowers them.
The lab will not lower hit points, but it can raise them as much as 5 points in a single zap.
The lab can zap your pet back to level one, so be aware. There is controversy over whether or not there is a level at which the lab can no longer do that, and what that level may be if there is one. Opinions vary, and so far Neo has not said anything about it officially.
Once a day between 12-1am NST (and all day Halloween) Count Von Roo is awake and willing to play Deadly Dice with you. It is a simple game. He rolls a die and you roll a die. Whichever of you rolls the higher number wins. If you win your pet goes up a level, if you lose your pet loses a level. Your pet must be at least level 2 in order to play.
If you tie and continue to play you will be playing for more levels. Tie once then win and your pet gains 2 levels, tie twice in a row then win your pet gains 4 levels etc etc. Of course, if you lose you lose that many levels.
Good Luck.
Once a day you can visit Coltzan's Shrine in the Lost Desert. It's possible to gain an item, some nps, have nothing happen at all, or if lucky one of your pet's stats will be raised.
There are 3 possible outcomes after completing a Kitchen Quest. You could win a small amount of NPs, a random item, or it can increase one of your pet's stats. The pet it targets is random.
There are some Neggs, mostly bought from the Neggery, that can increase your pet's stats. These include Silver Knight Negg, Power Negg, Super Negg, and Cool Negg. Neggs are usually only used to train high level pets, as they are generally pretty expensive.
You can find more info about Neggs here.
For one hour each day the Turmaculus can be awakened by your neopet. For a guide on when he may be awakened click here. He can give you np, items, not be awoken at all (even during the 1 hour he may be awoken), raise your petpet's level, eat your petpet, or raise your neopet's strength.

Scratchcards
|
One of the possible prizes on many of the scratchcards is a level given to a random pet.

Random Events
|
There is a Something Has Happened event you could encounter while traveling around the site that randomly increases one of your pet's stats. It could be any stat, at any time, for any of your pets.

Intelligence
|
The main way to raise your pet's Intelligence is to read it books. Other methods include landing on the correct space on the Wheel of Knowledge, a random win from Coltzan's Shrine, and a random increase while playing the games Faerie Crossword and Cliffhanger.

Should I train at the Academy or School?
Between levels 1 - 40 you have a choice of which place to train at.
In general the School takes less time per course but is more expensive, while the Academy takes more time to finish each course but is cheaper. (With the flood of codestones from KeyQuest their price have been dropping. The cost of both places was coming close to being equal but then the Anchor Management daily started handing out Dubloons so the Academy is cheapest again.)
From levels 41 - 249 you have no choice. The Mystery Island Training School is the only place that will take your pet.
Why won't the Academy accept my Dubloon?
You need to have the exact Dubloon the course is asking for in your inventory at the time you click the Pay button on the status page. It will neither accept a larger Dubloon nor smaller Dubloons that add up to the total required.
If payment for the course is a Two Dubloon Coin you must have a Two Dubloon Coin in your inventory. Nothing else will work.
How do I get the Dubloon I need to pay for my training?
Dubloons can be won from Coltzan's Shrine, Treasure of the Black Pawkeet on Krawk Island, or they can be bought from other players.
Tarla occasionally gives out Dubloons as well, though she usually gives One Hundred Dubloon Coin which you would then have to break down to get the coins you needed.
The new daily Anchor Management located at the Governor's Mansion on Krawk Island also gives them out now.
The Dubloon-O-Matic will turn smaller coins you have into larger ones, but does not work in reverse. If you had 2 One Dubloon Coins you could go there to turn them into 1 Two Dubloon Coin, but you could not go there with a Two Dubloon Coin and exchange it for 2 Ones.
The game Black Pawkeet Slots has returned and is again handing out Dubloons as well, though not as frequently as it used to.
Why won't the Academy let me start a course?
You can only train pets up to level 40 at the Academy. From level 41-249 the Mystery Island Training School is your only choice.
Why won't the School accept my Codestone(s)?
You need to have the exact Codestone(s) the course is asking for in your inventory at the time you click the Pay button on the status page.
If the course is asking for a Vo Codestone you must have that exact stone. It will not accept a Bri Codestone or any other if what it wants is a Vo.
How do I get Codestones?
Codestones mostly come from Random Events. They can also be won from Tiki Tack Tombola, The Deserted Tomb, and Bri and Mag can be won from The Wheel of Monotony.
Key Quest is also a good game now to get Codestones from.
How do I use Red Codestones?
The red codestones Sho, Cui, Kew, Mag, Vux, Zed are used to pay for training your level 250+ pet at the Secret Ninja Training School in the same way the brown codestones are used to pay at the Mystery Island Training School.
How do I cancel a course I started?
At the Krawk Island Academy there is a cancel link on the status page. You cannot cancel a course once you enroll in the Mystery Island Training School.
Once you have paid for a course you have to let it finish before you can remove your pet, regardless of where your pet is training.
Does training only raise one stat point at a time?
Most of the time yes, it only raises one stat point at a time, but occasionally you will get a super bonus in which the stat you were training is raised 2-4 points.
It is my pet's species day. How do I get free training?
Free training is offered to pets level 40 or under at the Krawk Island Academy. If you go there as usual and sign up for a course then go to the status page the course should already have started. Pets over level 40 cannot participate in free pet day training. If you already signed up for a course at the Academy prior to the free training day but have not payed for it, you need to cancel the course and sign up again to get the course to start for free. Keep in mind the news comes out at least a day early. Check the date to make sure it actually is your pet's day.
Which bottled faeries will increase my pet's stats?
None.
Bottled Faeries give your pet abilities for use inside the battledome. They do not affect your pet's permanent stats.
How can I lower my pet's level?
It can happen randomly when using the Lab Ray, or when you lose to Count Von Roo's Deadly Dice game.
