AC is about to begin for the year. Come chat with us on SoLiD board on the official board. Get to know new players, and get updates from returning ones, while we chitchat about everything and nothing, and welcomes new players to the board :D
Welcome to SoLiDpedia!

On this site I will post different things related to AC, and the SoLiD board. Ever wondered about the scorekeepers coding-system, or what people mean about a "race" or a "marathon"? This is a place, where you'll find out.

If you want something to be added, then contact wocky_shepherd and I'll see what I can do to add it :)

General Marathon rules

1) Only One marathon at a time, at any given time. It gives a lot more focus to that certain game, in stead of spreading our devotion into several games at once, and thus not making the best efford of raising a single game's score, when it's needed. Ofcause other games can still be played at the main board.
2) If you want to make a marathon, go to the main SoLiD board to tell, that you want to start a marathon, what game, and for how long it'll last. If there are no other marathons going on go ahead and make it. Be sure to report back with the result, when it's over! We've seen marathons, that's been reported to start, but never returned with the result because it got abandoned halfway through.
3) In case there's already a marathon going on, there can be a list of the next marathons going to happen. If you still want to make the marathon, make sure that you, or someone else, is able to make the marathon, as soon as the other marathon has reported back.

Normal Marathon

Placed on a new board. We focus on one game for a certain amount of time to try and reach a set goal. The goal CAN be set higher, after the first goal has been reached. The chat is limited to bare minimum. Usually the time limit for the marathons are:

YYB: 30 mins-1.5 hours
SS: 45minutes-1 hour
MSN: 15-30 minutes
SSD: 30-45 minutes.

Mega Marathon
(Usually only YYB. But MOLDSS board can be considered as one as well) Resembles the ordinary marathon. The Mega marathon lasts until the board either reaches it's time-limit after 2-3 hours, or it reaches the end at pg 25. Also here it's limited talk.

Race

People agree to play a certain game until they reach a certain number of goals or points. People participating starts at the exact same time, and doesn't post their scores 'till they've reached the set goal. It's on the main-board, as it's not needed to post scores after every single game. First to finish gets the right to brag about it(because TNT doesn't allow to give prizes).
Most used/reasonable goals are:
YYB: 100-150 goals
SS: 3-5K
MSN: 100-150K
SSD: 50-100K

Quadrathlon

A separate board, where all the games are played, taking turns. Basically it's like a race, where we have a set number of goals/points to reach individually. The one who gets FTP decides what game is first. The person who wins will decide the next game.

Our "Needed" list

0.Why not try some of the other games? :D ()
1.No text (play normally) (Nothing) or :) ()
2.Needed! :* ()
3.Needed badly!! :o ()
4.Needed desperately!!! :( ()
5.Urgent Attention Please! :K ()

Please note, that no all scorekeepers use this system, and the outer-rankts (0 and 6) are only used in extreme situations, whish should be very rare. Also, this is only an indication of what games are needed most, for those looking for a game to play, but do't know what he should play. If you have another game you'd much rather play, go ahead and play that

Making Scorekeeper's Life Easy
1) SoLiD has never hid or altered our scores, and we never will.
There's no point in doing so. Our opponent will play the game they want/need no matter what they think. And we've been spying on their boards previous years, they didn't believe us or our scores, even after we've told them we don't alter our score. So there's no real reason. Also it's kind of a faul game to do so.
2) We try not to post *their* scores here, for various reasons:
- There's no certainty if their real
- There's no *real* certainty about who has the bigger team/how much bigger
- It gets confusing for our scorekeepers and several players who keep seeing different tallies posted.
- It might lead to unnecessary panic.
3) When posting scores it would be a help for the scorekeepers, if you:
-Post in bulks (more than one game added up. e.g. Play 5 YYB matches at a time, add the scores, and then post it) The more numbers scorekeepers have to add up, the easier it is to make a mistake.
-Remember to make clear what game it is.
-Post the score DIFFERENCE, not the score itself (we answer this question 800 billion times a day) i.e. a 10-1 game would be a "+9"

Guide for Screkeeprs

Been asking on the SoLiD board What makes a good scorekeeper in their oppinion. If you have more, please nm me, or katch me on the current SoLiD board :)

-someone who motivates the team to achieve their goals instead of demanding it.
-Good at multi-tasking .
-Answers questions.
-Keeps score.
-and at the same time plays games.
-someone who is consistent and doesnt mess up.
-Someone who is quick and not easy to get stressed out.
-I like it when they post close to a specific time.

for things I'm valuing myself from other scorekeepers, apart from the above:
-Knowing when/how often they're keeping scores.
-keeping an eye on ongoing marathons, in case it's left to dye, without anyone posting socres from it
-Being able to keep track of all scores at the same time. If the scores are separated it's dificult for the next scorekeeper to take over.

Every scorekeeper has their prefered way to keep scores, here's a few tips for that:
Pen+paper:(I used this one at the beginning of my scorekeeper-carreer) Simple: Have a colum for each game, and put scores there. When it's time to post update find a calculator, and add the scores up. It's also by far the slowest method, and there might be 1-3 new pages when you're done.
Calculators: Every computer(At least Windows) has a calculator installed, and you can open as many of those as you like. Just make sure, that you remember wich one goes for wich game. Tip: Always use the same order for calculators/games.
Exel(or resembling program): If you're good at this program(or gotten the right instuctions) this one's simple. Have a colum/row for each game, write the scores in that row/colum, and add them up.

Please if you feel like I've missed out on something, contact me.

Regular scorekeepers

From time to time it's the same scorekeepers who take care of the scores. Each has their own style. Sometimes it disturbes you focus on games, if you don't know the style of the current scorekeeper. Here's a list of(some of) them. If you've been scorekeeping, and want to get to this list, please contact me, with the info you want me to add.

aaraque(Ant/Anthony): When i scorekeep i keep ... tallies and goals, and links to marathons. the last page i stopped at (i try to do it in pages). and i try to update every other page depending on how busy it is.

alagfalaswen(Axtar): I update every two/three pages and include the page number of the next scores post under the scores (Next update: Page (no.)) Order of scores are YYB, SIS, MSN and SOSD.
-I use one calculator and two notepad pages (both on the computer) to update. One page has the total scores(A), the other has all the scores collected between the two pages between updates (B). I basically total up the scores on (B) one by one and add them to the scores in (A).
I note my '@ (person)' as the last person whose score I added to (B). Helps me keep track easily of the last scores.
My increments of the goals are fairly small compared to other scorekeepers, I think? I usually add between 1000 - 4000 for YYB and SIS goals and 100,000 - 500,000 for MSN and SOSD. I tend to make them small so that they're easy to break.

iamcjblack(Calum): I post like this:
YYB: ## / ##
SS: ## / ##
MSN: ## / ##
SSD: ## / ###
Last post: "username" @ 00:00am NST
I have four calculators up and I usually post the current scores after 5 games of YYB, unless it's still on the same page as the previous scores then I'll wait till a new page.

mankey5(Mankey): I try to update every half hour, unless work goes crazy or there aren't enough scores.

tadiepurr(Tadie): I use an Excel spreadsheet that I designed to keep track of the scores as accurately as I can. Each score that I see posted gets entered into a cell, and then I have a summation at the top. I like to keep track of scores in Microsoft Excel, with the last total posted on the top of each column, with new scores down the column, and a total of all of it at the bottom. I try to post every two pages if we're really busy, or every half hour if it's slower.
This is how I post totals, with helpful goals and marathon links at the bottom:
YYB: ## / goal
SS: ## / goal
MSN: ## / goal
SSD: ## / goal ( NEW goal! if a new goal)
Last Post: (username) @ 00:00 am/pm NST
Marathons:
YYB: (link here)
SS: (link here)
I like to add marathons when they're completely done, and SANDY or DUNAS near the end of the day, just to encourage people to keep trying.
On a seperate sheet of Excel, I like to keep the totals from the last match we had with the team we're facing, with calculations of percentage, what we have "today" versus what we got last time, and if it was a win, loss, or draw.

Pitke: I tend to take up scorekeeping when I know I can stay at it for some hours at least. My method is to use a predefined Excel sheet, and a Notepad for the post form. I use a star for a new goal and sometimes Sloth for a focus game that's moved very little or not at all from the last update. As general, I try to play some while I score-keep. I try to encourage others, welcome and goodbye folks, and answer questions to keep the spirits high. I like to update around set times, with focus info and links to relevant petpages or marathons.

vinylvixen (Vixen):I scorekeep with a calculator and notepad. I usually include a focus order for people who want one and help track our totals and percents. I *heart* people who post in periodic bulks.

livvy_granger(Livvy):I try to be not so much a scorekeeper but more a cheerleader with a calculator. I use an amazing scorekeeping program called Therefore I Add which my friend designed for me, but it works pretty much the same as the four calculators and Notepad I used previously. Depending on the speed of the boards, I'll update either hourly (:00) or half-hourly (:00 and :30.) I enjoy SKing for you guys, so I tend to do it for waaaaay too long (often more than 10 hours straight, though my record so far is 15)

Wocky_Shepherd(Wocky/Birgitte): I try to make scoreupdates ~:00 and :30. Sometimes RL gets in the way, I get cought up in a conversation or there has not been enough scores for an update. Then it'll either be delayed a few minutes or postponed to the next sceduled time. I stick around on the old board 'till it's closed to get any last-minute scores. I try to keep track of current marathons, and to give people an indication of what games are needed most, by using the needed list.
To keep track of the scores I use 4 calculators I have open all the time I'm keeping scores. For percentages I have set up a Open Office calc. Current scores and percentages are separated in two posts, where the first also, most often, holds links to marathons, and the last other kind of detailes about today's match(If not it's the other way around)

Making new board

Have you been so lucky to PWN pg 23? Don't know what to do when creating the new board? Fear not here goes:
First there's the title. It should always be something like this: "*lostdesert*SoLiD://*witty title here*".
After that there's the starting message, or 1st post. That one should be copy/pasted to the new board. In case the board's gone poof too soon:

And then we have the link-post, or our 2nd post. it should be:

During the finals we'll run a 3rd post to be added after the first two:

When those two posts are copy/pasted to the new board, you should post the new link on the old board, when it reaches pg 25. That way the locking-process will be a lot shorter, and people will still be able to find the new board, if they got "stock" on the old board, while playing :-)

If you still don't want to make the board, let people know, so a volounteer can be found in time, In that case it's the first to volunteer to make the next board. SoLiD members don't like to be without a home ;-)

If you, as a boardmaker, have a message you want to share in the new board, please use the 3rd/4th post for that, so that 1st and 2nd (and 3rd) post doesn't get split one way or another. It might confuse next board-maker, if there's a not-relevant centence at the top of post 1

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to join SoLiD. What should I do?
If you want to join the guild, you should ask Miriam for an invite. If you just want to hang around on the SoLiD boards, and posting your scores you don't have to do anything but hang around, and post your scores.

What are you adding, for the score updates? Number of games or goals/points?
We add goals/points. So no need to post how many games you've played to reach that number of points/goals. As long as you make clear what game you've played. If you just write i.e. 350 it could be a somewhat big YYB bulk, or it could be a single SS score.

Who's Navers?
Dirty Navers was a ruki many LD fans loved and adored. He was replaced by the kiko, Lamelle Turow, in ACIII. Many fans still haven't gotten over the loss of the ruki, and keep wanting him back to the team.
In the same breath, I can tell, that in ACI a meerca was playing in the position, now posessed by the Scorchio, Derbi. A lot of people don't remember the meerca, though. Maybe because he only was allowed to play for two matches in ACI.
In ACVI Lamelle Turow decided to change to a less dry team, and in stead we got a new Kiko, named Rhee Solters, a female Desert Kiko.

Can I only play 3 games everyday?
You can play much more than that. You can't play/send in scores unlimited. When you reach the cap we call it "maxing out a game" The cap for the games are:
YYB: 301
SS: 301
MSN: 1201
SSD: 1201
You will only get np for the first 3 scores you send for each game, though.

What is a "good" score for (insert game here)?
A: The short answer here is that every score counts and, even if you are not the best in a particular game, you should not be ashamed of trying your hardest. With that being said, it is good to make sure that the scores you are sending are high enough to be counted to your rank. The caps for each game is (paroximately):
YYB: a draw/win
SS: 300 points
MSN: 3000
SSD: 650 points.

Should I send a losing score in Yooyuball?
A: TNT has stated in the new rules that this is fine, although if you send a losing score then it is not counted towards your player rank. Please keep in mind, though, that we have no way of confirming whether or not it is detrimental for the team's scores (given TNT's history) and that you do this at the team's risk.

I'm not good at Yooyuball. Do I drag the team down if I only play side games?
A: Absolutely not. TNT has clearly stated that all of the games are important. Furthermore, a team works best when everyone utilizes their strengths to their fullest potential, so please play what you are most comfortable with.

(Insert game here) isn't working properly for me. What should I do?
First, you should make sure that it is not a problem with your computer. For starters, try clearing your browser cache (this is also helpful if you are experiencing a lot of lag). To do this, follow these instructions: Firefox: Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on your keyboard to bring up the Clear Private Data -blocked- Make sure the "Cache" box is checked, then hit "Clear Private Data Now. Internet Explorer: From the toolbar, navigate to Tools, Internet Options. In the new window, click the "Delete Files" button and click "OK" in the next dialog that pops up. If you are still having problems after this, try restarting your computer.
If these steps do not work for you, please report the game to TNT using this form so that you can begin to play again as soon as possible.

What gender is the kiko, the kau... on the team?
Easy: Everyone, exept Derbi and Ree are boys. I think both Leera and Vonde will be very embaresed/mad, if you call them girls.. And you don't wanna see Leera get mad. Remember all the pics of him? That's when he's in a good mood ;)

Who should I score with?
Vonde(The Wocky) is our topscore, so we all try to score with him. If you use the 2+2 formation in the left-right he'll be the selected player each time. From right-left will give Derbi the 1st selected player. But if you feel more comfortable with a different formation, please do so. A high score is more important, than getting a single player's GPG up.

I'm not good at YYB, will I still be a help for the team?
Sure you will. YYB is the main game, but we won't be able to go to the finals without winning those sidegames. It's recomendable to keep practicing your YYB-skill, though, since that will be the only game counting in the finals. Also, as long as you send in wins, you shouldn't feel bad. 1 win is a win, and still counts toward victory :)

When you play YYB are you playing against another person from the current opposing team? or juts the computer representing the other team?
In the game itself, you're playing against the computer. The "day long" overral match, we're playing as a team against the other team's players. (but only when comparing scores sent)
