Sneakoscope; A History

Originally owners, Lynn and Kara prevously owned Aguamenti together but after three months, decided the guild was a bust. Wanting to give it one more go, they founded Sneakoscope. Sneakoscope was created on October 17th, 2008 and had its Grand Opening on October 31st. In early 2009, Kara and Lynn stepped down from management and Jack, former Slytherin Head of House, now runs the guild. This is the first guild Jack has owned since he returned to Neopets after a several year hiatus but to look at his guild, one can really see he knows his stuff. Along with the help of his trusty team of HoH's, Sneakoscope now flourishes as one of the older and more successful Harry Potter guilds on Neopets.

Members: Members are the most important part of any guild. Without members, there is no guild. Our members are very important to us, and we work hard to keep them happy. We want our members to have fun and enjoy the guild. All of our members are very friendly, so it's easy to make friends quickly! We host a plethora of members of both genders and all ages, though we are a 16+ guild. People from all over the world can find their own in Sneakoscope. Whether you are American, British, Australian, Canadian or Martian*, you will find your kind with us. (*at this time we do not host any Martians it was merely a tool to express that we are our own mini-UN)

Activeness: Sneakoscope prides itself on the activeness of our members. There is nearly always someone to chat with but we aren't so active that you can't follow conversations. Time zone really work to our benefit. It seems that no matter when you are most active, there are other members who share that time and it's never a challenge to find people to chat with. We, also, try extremely hard to keep updated classes, activities and information so there is always something to do.

Houses and points: The second thing you probably want to know is how the guild works. We are a traditional Harry Potter guild, which means we have the four Hogwarts Houses(Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw) and use House Points. After a term, which is generally a month long, the house with the most points win the house cup. This is a great honor and there is always a lot of completion to earn the title of House Cup Champion.

Sorting: Sneakoscope has a very unique way of sorting students. We have the traditional Sorting Hat Quiz, but instead of being sorted right away, we hold on to the quiz answers and save them for a Sorting Ceremony. During Sorting Ceremonies, we sort the unsorted students all at the same time. The ceremonies often end in food fights which are VERY intense and lots of fun! No worries if you join earlier in the term. We never made you wait more than a week to get sorted and you always have the option of getting sorted right away.

Graphics: All of our layouts and graphics are custom made. We provide those who can make graphics an outlet to show off their skills! We are always happy to sport a layout made by one of our own. For the graphically challenged, we do have a whole plethora of fonts, banners, layouts, lookups and other graphics ready to use just for members to show of their spirit for their house and guild.

Classes and Activities: Our classes work pretty much the same as other HP guilds. We have certain requirements for teaching a class, but all members are welcome and highly encouraged to take a class or two.
We also have lots of fun activities to keep the members occupied when they are bored. The activities can earn you house points and we also have competitions which can earn you other things!

Rules

I. Be kind and respect all members and do not start fights on the guild message board, ad boards or with other guilds. You aren't asked to be best friends with every single member, but be civil. Guilds are supposed to be fun and it's no fun at all when someone stirs up drama. While this is not normally a problem with Sneako members, we feel we should make it known that we have a Zero Tolerance for pointless drama.
II. Absolutely NO curse words or bad language! Have respect for other members and yourself. Keep it PG.
III. All member must be 16 or older. This is new rule put in place to help maintain a more mature atmosphere.
IV. Do not beg for a council spot, a position in the guild, House Points, or items.
V. Don't steal any graphics or coding.
VI. Don't join the guild on two accounts so that you could earn extra house points. Suspended members may join on a side for the duration of suspension but only one account per person can earn points.
VII. We have a new active rule. Every must post at least twenty (20) times a week. That works out to three posts a day. If you know you wont be able to comply, contact your head of house.
VIII. Follow the Literacy Policy and don't use chatspeak.

Literacy Policy

Sneakoscope is a literate guild. Below are the rules that must be followed on the guild message board, ad board and role play forum. Please make sure you read all of the rules. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse!

1. Absolutely NO chatspeak! (ex. i luvv h@rry p0tter!1!!! do u luv it 2???)
2. No spam, Short Pointless Annoying Messages. All posts must contain three of more words. Emoticon do not count as words.
3.gtg", "brb", or "btw", using "lol", "rofl", and "omg" are no longer acceptable AT ALL.
4. Use correct grammar and punctuation.
5. Please capitalize proper nouns and the first letter at the beginning of a new sentence.
6. Don't stretch out the message board by posting repeated letters in a word (ex. nnoooooooooooooooo wwwaaaaaaaaaayyy!)
7. Try not to post more than three posts in a row.

WARNING: 5 or more violations of the literacy policy in a single term gives Council the right to suspend/delete you from the guild.

Before You Apply

Before you send in your application please:
Make sure you understand and can comply with all the rules and literacy policy. Make sure your spelling and grammar is the way you want it. Be sure you can accept an invitation and have room in your inbox for an invite or message so we can send one. Make sure your application is complete and you've answered every question. We also recommend putting as much detail and effort as you can in your application. We like long applications so please don't limit yourself to a short one because that's all the fits in a neomail. We are fine with applications on petpages and having to send several neomails is fine. If you are going to send several, please make your subject something like "Sneako Application 1-4" so we know how many neomails we are waiting to receive.
If you have done and considered all of that. You are ready!

You may submit your application in the form of a rap, song or epic poem on the ad board or to Jack via neomail. These will be judged just as harshly as a regular applications would be so don't slack! We never require a rap, this option is for those who want to try something a little different. Feel free to send it the normal way.

Please send your applications to Jack, Lindsey, Sofie, Lexi or Kelsey. and we will respond as soon as we can. By sending in an application, you are agreeing to follow all rules set down by the guild and are expected to know them. Ignorance is no excuse.

If you are applying again after being deleted or quitting the guild, please make sure you explain why you left or were deleted the first time, why you'd like to come back and why I should let you back in. ALL REAPPLYING MEMBERS MUST SEND APPLICATIONS TO JACK. No two ways about it. If you left the guild, were kicked out or wish to reapply for any other reason, Jack gets the final word about whether or not you will be readmitted.

Congratulations

Congratulations! You've made it in to Sneakoscope!...so now what?
The first thing you should do is turn on your guild mailing if you haven't already. This is the best way to keep up to date with important things in the guild and I promise not to flood your inbox.
Make sure you stop by the guild and introduce yourself! We are always excited to get new members and make new friends so don't deprive us of that.
Now that you've met us, you might want to pop over to the website and get yourself a house. Taking a look at the first years' guide is also a good step for all new members. You will also find graphics, activities, classes, information and lots more about the guild that you might want to have a look at.

Commiserations

Bummer, you didn't get in. If you'd like to reapply, you can wait a couple days and do so. But before you do, you should make sure you've read all the rules and literacy policy. If you don't understand why you didn't get in, feel free to ask Jack (or whoever denied you an invite). If you don't wish to reapply, good luck finding a guild that's a better fit. Remember that we are just doing our jobs and it's nothing personal if you don't get in.
