Meh... my image hosting quit on me, even though I did my best to prevent it. So... the images are going to be a little kooky until I can get everything transferred over to my new Photobucket account and posted up here.

01/31/07

Wh00t! A ton of updates, including Covers for The Sight, The Lost Warrior, and Secrets of the Clans! I'll be getting them up lickety-split! Or I will tommorow, when I find out why Neopets isn't letting me... *sighs*

Now I need to apologize to anyone who didn't come from the Warriors Wish forums. That note was part of a giant forum whodunit that I was a part of. I was "kidnapped" as part of the plot and left a clue, but a coincidence led people to believe that the clue was here. So, I had to post that to get them back on track. So yes, on this site at least, HF was me. And in the game, HF was doing the kidnapping, trying to take over Warriors Wish. So, I'm sorry if I caused any panic or confusion. And yes, I will get some new updates in soon.

*shakes finger at self* Bad Gorsecloud! Bad! Bad! If I'm really going to stay away from the site for months at a time, I need to put up I hiatus sign or something. I drew one for the purpose...

Oh well. Things have been really busy for me lately. Since most of you know me because of this, you should know that I am not a moderator on the Warriors Wish Forums, and I'm also a journailst for The Dawn Patrol, a montly Warriors newsletter that Blizz has set up, so I haven't had much time lately. Still, that's no excuse. So, to make it up, I will try to add as many things as possible, including a new Essay section with Essays I have written about the Warriors series, including the artices I have written for TDP.

Wh00t! Okay, thanks to Blizz, who asked the very question I've been worried about, although it was for articles in general and not the Encylo. specifically, I found out that I don't have to shut down the Encylopeida when Secrets of the Clans comes out! And I'm already done with Twilight (that was one of the worst cliffhangers EVER!! Waaah! I have to wait 'til December!), and my guild's birthday is today!! Yay!!

Guys, I'm really starting to get worried about the future of the Encylopedia. Not because of lack of intrest or time, but because of the possiblity of a cease-and-dessist order. Four words: Secrets of the Clans. This excerpt was taken from the Wands & Worlds chat with Kate Cary, Cherithy Baldry, and Vicky Holmes that I believe was today.

SheilaRuth: Can you tell us more about the Secrets of the Clans book?

VickyHolmes: It's going to be a kind of field guide to the entire world of the Clans, with information about all the things that have featured in the books so far, like medicinal herbs and ceremonies. But in addition it will have some pieces of history that haven't been mentioned, like how the Clans first came to be in the forest, and how StarClan feel about major events like Bluestar giving up her kits so she could be ThunderClan's deputy. I'm afraid there won't be any family trees because, er, we didn't pay enough attention to this sort of thing in the first books so we can't make sense of all the connections...

Basically, it sounds like an official version of what I'm trying to do. And because I'm not skilled in graphics (Really, I'm not!), this is all I can truly do. If I'm forced to shut this site down...

So, enjoy the Encylopedia while you can. I'm not sure how long it will be here. But I hope that it can remain up for a long time, bringing infromation to all who need it.

Sorry, I've been really busy lately. School has started for me, and I'm really busy with extracurricular activities.
Also, my fandom is beginning to reach its zenith with even more crazy ideas, such as... An Into the Wild movie! The whole thing, not just episodes. I dunno... maybe I'm just crazy. Well, I've added the cover for Sunset, and more will be up soon, hopefully...

The site has been visited enough for me to think that updates will be read! ^_^ I've been really busy lately, getting things ready for my guild's first anniversary. So, I'm sorry I haven't updated a lot of things lately. I will try to get some more articles and complete some more atricles soon.

I know this is off-topic, but I have been getting a lot of neofriend requests ever since I started roleplaying frequently on the roleplaying neoboards. I cannot accept any of these. I am not entirely comfortable with it, nor are my parents, if you get my drift. There are some people that I would gladly like to accept, but I can't. HOWEVER, I would like to make this point: I would NOT accept your neofriend request even if I could if all that I know about you is a half-hour of roleplaying. Or if you just ask me like that. I'm sorry, but I will not do so.

Also, a word in advance: If the guild's pictures and graphics suddenly disappear, do NOT freak out unless I tell you to. The site where I have uploaded my pictures traded with another company, and so the switch is coming up soon. I MIGHT loose all my pictures, but I have them saved on my computer, and in such an eveht, I will try to have the pictures up as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

P.S. To people who came here through the banner/link I made, give some credit to Minty from StarClan's Mercy, because she made the banner base. I modified it a bit for my purposes of course, but still give her most of the credit. Thanks! The banner at the top and the background are mine though! The Books

This is basically just all the books so far and a short description of each. Be careful for spoilers!!!

    Warriors

    1. Into the Wild
In Into the wild, Rusty, a young housecat, ventures into the forest one night, where he encounters three Clan cats: Graypaw, Bluestar and Lionheart. They give him a huge oppertunity: he may join ThunderClan. Rusty choses to go, and recieves the name Firepaw. Firepaw's adventures continue as he battles the cruelty of other cats, a tyrannical ShadowClan leader, and a powerful warrior who is harboring sinister plans...

    .

    2. Fire and Ice
Firepaw, now Fireheart, continues on his journey, but facing new dangers. He's now against a murder for a deputy, who knows that Fireheart is set against him, a friend who is breaking the warrior code, not caring about the consequences, and begins to doubt his decision to leave the kittypet life, especially when he meets his sister.

    .

    .
    3. Forest of Secrets
Fireheart is facing more than ever before. His friend continues to break the warrior code, and ThunderClan is enciting hostilities from other Clans by sheltering the -invalid_word-er tyrannical ShadowClan leader. RiverClan is starving from human interference, and he feels he must intervene. But the biggest problem on Fireheart's list is ThunderClan's evil deputy, and climaxtic confrontation between them is imminent.

    .

    4. Rising Storm
Fireheart, as the newly appointed deputy of ThunderClan, has lots more trouble on his plate. His leader appears to be suffering an emotional breakdown after her -invalid_word-er deputy's betrayal, his best friend has moved to RiverClan, and the treacherous ex-deputy is still alive and dangerous. That, mixed with his troublesome apprentice and worries about the kits of the same deputy that betrayed ThunderClan, Fireheart is in for rough times ahead.

    .

    5. A Dangerous Path
Things just keep getting worse and worse for ThunderClan. The -invalid_word-er deputy is now leader of ShadowClan. Their leader is waging a personal war with StarClan, and no longer seems to think rationally. But what's more, a terrible new danger is sweeping through the forest, stealing prey and killing cats. And when ShadowClan's new leader decides to use this to his advantage, every cat in ThunderClan is placed in peril, and it's up to Fireheart to save them.

    .

    6. The Darkest Hour
Firestar has to step up and take the lead now. And all his previous problems seem to pale into insignificance. ShadowClan's leader isn't satisfied with ruling one Clan anymore. When he decides he wants to rule all the forest, he uses any means. He brings in a new Clan, a huge group of cats raised on the city streets, who are bloodthirsty and cruel. But when he falls against the very cat he made the agreement with, it is up to Firstar and the rest of the Clans to drive out this evil, powerful group of cats, and their heartless leader, before they are all destroyed.

    .

    .

    The New Prophecy

    1. Midnight
Brambleclaw's facing problems of his own. He's gotten a mysterious dream telling him the forest is in danger, as do three other cats, all from other Clans. Together with them, one of Firestar's disagreeable daughters, and the sibling of one of the other chosen cats, they set off to find what this danger is. Meanwhile, at home, Firestar's other daughter, Leafpaw has to deal with problems of her own, including a dangerous prophecy concerning her sister and Brambleclaw.

    .

    2. Moonrise
Stormfur is traveling home with the rest of the chosen cats, knowing that there is a great danger threatening the forest. However they get sidetracked when they meet a Tribe of cats in the mountains, one that has a prophecy of their own to fufill. A prophecy that they believe involves Stormfur, and they won't hesitate to use force to keep him there. Meanwhile, Leafpaw is back home, living the danger that the chosen cats have heard about. Twolegs are destroying the forest, the prey is gone, and, even worse, warriors are disappearing without a trace, and it's up to her to figure things out.

    .

    3. Dawn
Squirrelpaw, Firestar's daughter is facing hard times. She and the rest of the chosen cats come back to the forest, after losing Feathertail on the journey back, to find that the trouble StarClan had forseen was already there. What's more, Twolegs have captured her sister Leafpaw, but the Clans need to leave the forest, or risk being destroyed. They need to find Leafpaw, and the other missing cats, as well as convince the adamant Clans that they need to leave. But pride makes things difficult, and not every Clan will listen to common sense unless the needs are dire.

    .

    4. Starlight
The Clans have found their new territory, and are trying to settle in it peacefully. But problems arise as soon as this happens. Clans are willing to fight for more territory. A controvertial deputy appointment by Tallstar right before his death leaves WindClan divided on their new leader, and Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight are fighting more than ever before. Their subject? Brambleclaw's trust in his mysterious, possibly dangerous half-brother, Hawkfrost. Meanwhile, Leafpaw is facing her own problems, including the need to find a new Moonstone and a new feeling that is going against what she had agreedt to when she decided to become a medicine cat.

    .

    .

    The Power of Three

This will be the third series in the Warriors saga.
Quoted fromt the Writers Unboxed interview: "It's going to be called POWER OF THREE, and will skip ahead one generation to some kits who will have a major impact on ThunderClan's destiny. Since you're clearly some of our most dedicated fans, we thought you'd like a sneak preview of the prophecy that sparks off this gripping series. Firestar receives it in a shadowy cave, far from home, from an ancient cat that is not from any Clan that we know…

Three will come, kin of your kin, with more power for good or evil than any cat that has walked the forest before.

    .

    1. The Sight("The Sight" is a working title and is probably subject to change)
No pictures or info are available yet. Expected to be released in 2007.

    .

    .

    Single Novel: Firestar's Quest

Quoted again from the Writers Unboxed interview: "With the death ofTigerstar and Scourge, peace seems to have returned, and Firestar can get on with being a good leader to his Clan. But he is troubled by visits from a warrior ancestor he has never seen before. Who is this cat? What does he want with Firestar? And if what he says is true, then StarClan have lied to Firestar, and the warrior code is worth nothing...The kittypet turned leader, the fire who saved his Clan, must leave the forest and go on a long, dangerous journey to find out the truth - and restore his faith in StarClan."
It takes place between the events of the original series and the New Prophecy.

    The Lost Warrior
    -invalid_word-

Warriors is actually branching into the world of Manga novels! This is the first in a series of three that follow Graystripe's captivity from the end of Dawn to when he finally returns to ThunderClan. So Graystripe fangirls can breathe a sigh of relief. ;)

When the Twolegs destroy the warrior Clans' forest home, Graystripe--second in command of ThunderClan--is captured while trying to help his comrades escape! However, Graystripe soon discovers that the captive life as a pampered kittypet isn't all that bad. The cozy Twoleg nest and his new, affectionate family help Graystripe put his Clan days behind him. Still, nothing compares to the life of a warrior! With a new kittypet ally, Millie, by his side, will Graystripe ever find his way back to the Clan?
As seen on the Tokyopop website

    .

    Secrets of the Clans

As first seen in the Writers Unboxed interview, I believe...

I'm putting together a guide to all things Clan and feline that have featured in the books so far. Look out for Warriors: Secrets of the Clans, which comes out next year. It's been great fun to go back and revisit my favorite scenes and characters, and investigate some more unusual viewpoints. Ever wonder what StarClan thought about Bluestar's decision to give up her kits? Or how Fernpaw and Ashpaw really felt about leading the vicious pack of dogs away from their Clanmates? All will be revealed, I promise!

(Thanks to Warrior Wish for the adoptables!!)

Also note: I will TRY to keep these as spoiler-free as possible, but I can only do so much. So read with caution.

He is constantly taunted about his kittypet roots, although this situation improves as the series progresses.

Fireheart is loyal and dependable. He mostly sticks to the warrior code, but will sometimes sacrefice that obedience for the greater good.

    Fevers:

How you can tell: Feel the cat's pads.

    Cures: Borage leaves and Feverfew

    Basic wounds:

Process: You will want to clean the wound of scraps and leaves first. Then, dress the wound with marigold leaves, or if you really want to clean the wound, some wild garlic. Then, cover it with cobwebs.

For infected wounds Chervil leaves, Marigold leaves or Horsetail will help.

For rat bites, especially infected ones, use burdock root.

    Bellyaches:

How you can tell: Usually the cat will tell you if their stomach is upset, but you may want to check by feel ing the cat's abdomen, as it may be distended.

Cures: Chervil root, Juniper berries (usually found in dry areas), and water mint (usually found in wet areas)

    Coughs:

How you can tell: the cat is coughing consistently, and is probably complaining as well.

    Cures: Chammomile and Thyme

    Swelling:

How you can tell: Ususally the effected body part will be swollen and possibly tender

    Ceremonies:

    Traditional Clan Greeting:
This is typically how the Clan Leader addresses the Clan and starts a Clan meeting.

Leader: Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the _____________ for a Clan meeting.

(What is used as the Gathering place varies from Clan to Clan and the camp they are in. Examples: Highrock, the ledge (Highledge), Bonehill)

    Apprentice ceremony:
This ceremony is one where kits become apprentices and recieve their mentors.

(Leader starts with traditional Clan greetingLeader then calls the apprentice(s) forward)

Leader: From this day forward, until (he/she) has earned (his/her) warrior name, this apprentice will be called ______paw.

Leader: (new mentor's name), (here the leader praises some of the unique qualities of the new mentor, although sometimes something else is mentioned to the warrior's credit or even advice is given. It is kept very brief, no more than one or two sentences). May you pass down your skills to this young apprentice. (that sentence varies a little; same general meaning)
(The new mentor and apprentice touch noses. The Clan welcomes the apprentice with their new name)

    .

    Warrior Ceremony
(This is the ceremony where, obviously, an apprentice becomes a warrior)

Leader: I ________star, leader of _____Clan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (She/He) has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend (him/her) to you as a warrior in (his/her) turn. Leader: _________paw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?

    Apprentice: I do

Leader: Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. _________paw, from this moment you will be known as (new name). StarClan honors your courage* and your (see Virtues Section), and we welcome you as a full warrior of ______Clan.
(The leader rests his or her muzzle on the apprentice's head. The apprentice then licks the leader's shoulder. The rest of the Clan then greets the new warrior by calling him or her by their new name. The warrior will sit a silent vigil guarding the camp that night, except in highly unusual circumstances, such as Squirrelflight's, where another special task may be assigned)

    * See Virtues below

    Virtues
During the apprentices warrior ceremony, virtues found in the apprentice are listed. Usually it is courage and another virtue, but sometimes courage is replaced by something else. Also note: virtues are also listed when a medicine cat apprentice graduates

Some virtues that have been listed (and the warriors they described)

  • Determination – Squirrelflight and Brackenfur
  • Enthusiasm – Spiderleg
  • Independence – Cloudtail
  • Strength – Fireheart and Greystripe
  • Spirit – Sandstorm
  • Honesty – Dustpelt
  • Patience – Sorreltail
  • Forethought – Brackenfur*
  • Loyalty – Thornclaw*
  • Intelligence – Thornclaw
  • Faith – Leafpool (medicine cat apprentice graduation ceremony)

    * These two virtues are unusual in the fact that they replace "courage." They are the only two I have seen that do so.

    Dying Warrior Ceremony
(If a dying apprentice is worthy, then they may be recieved into StarClan with a warrior mane if this ceremony is per-invalid_word-ed)

Leader: I ask my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (He/She) has learned the warrior code and has given up (his/her) life in service of (his/her) Clan. Let StarClan recieve (him/her) as a warrior. (His/her) name will be __________, because _____(reason)____. Let StarClan recieve her by the name of __________.
(The leader touches the apprentices head)

    .

    Name Change Ceremony
(When a warrior's name needs or should be changed)

Leader: Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what (he/she) is. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment (he/she) will be known as ____________, for _____(reason)____.
(The leader rests their muzzle on the cat's head. The cat licks the leader's shoulder. The rest of the Clan greets the cat by thier new name. There is no vigil or special task)

    .

    Elder Ceremony
(This is when a warrior wishes to give up their role and go join the elders)

Leader: ___________, is it your wish to give up the name of warrior and go join the elders?

    Warrior: It is.

Leader: Your Clan honors you and all the service you have given us. I call upon StarClan to give you many seasons of rest.
(Leader lays his/her tail on the new elder's shoulders, and then the eld bows his/her head. The new elder then joins the other elders)

    .

    Medicine Cat Apprentice Ceremony:
(Note: This ceremony must be done at the Moonstone/Moonpool and all the other Medicine cats and their apprentices, if any, must be present)

Medicine Cat who will be teaching the new MC Apprentice: _______________, is it your wish to enter into the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?

    Medicine cat apprentice: It is.

Same Medicine Cat: Then come forward.

(pauses as the new apprentice approaches the stone/pool)

Same Medicine cat: Warriors of StarClan, I present to you this apprentice. She has chosen the life of medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight so that she may understand your ways and heal her Clan in accordance to your will.

(Then, all medicine cats and thier apprentices, including the new one, come forward and share dreams with StarClan in the normal manner.)

    More coming soon!!

    Names!! (A very broad subject!!)

I am probably biting off more than I can chew here, as the possiblities are practically infenate. Expect me to add new names all the time. This also includes basic in-invalid_word-ation about the different types of names in the Warriors world (e.g. Clan names, Tribe names, etc.).

    .

    Basic Information

  • Clan names: Clan names come in two parts. Names come from things around the Clans, such as plants or animals, or perhaps a special characteristic that the cat posseses. The first part of the name is chosen by the mother, while the second half is chosen by the Clan leader when the cat becomes a warrior. Keep in mind that cats have no notion of human beliefs, so first names such as Ghost-, Dragon-, and Angel- would not be actually found, and maybe shouldn't be used. If the group you are RP-ing with doesn't mind, than go ahead, but be careful in case someone dislikes your unusual name (Hey, don't get mad at me; one of my friends has a character named Angelfur). Also, be sure that your name makes sense. Rabbitbrook would probably fall into the catagory of not making sense (No offense meant if that was your name!!). Other than that, the possibilities are endless. Examples: Spottedleaf, Rosetail, Fireheart

  • Tribe names: Tribe cats have multi-word names, but are often called by the first word of their name. These are probably the easiest to explain. These names are nature and mountain related. What names they get seem to be earned. Talon said something to the effect in Moonrise. I have no idea if the name of the Tribe healer is the same every time, but it appears that Stoneteller (Teller of the Pointed Stones) is a special name. I have seen some good alternatives of a Tribe Healers names out in some of the guilds. Examples of Tribe names: Brook where Small Fish Swim (Brook), Talon of Swooping Eagle (Talon), and Flight of Startled Heron (Flight)

  • BloodClan/Rouge/Loner names: These names can be totally random. There still probably won't be any "Ghost"s or "Dragon"s, but there are some very human-like names out there. As far as is known, Loners and rouges name themselves, or are named by their mother. Examples: Sasha, Barley, Bone, Scourge, & Boulder

  • Kittypet Names: Kittypets get their names from their Twolegs. Possibilities really are endless here, and you probably will see one or two "Ghost"s, "Dragon"s, and so on. Some loners will hang around humans and get their names from them. Examples: Purdy, Princess, Smudge, Rusty

    .

    First names:

From here on out, we are talking about Clan names. In this section, I have devised a way to sort the first parts of Clan names in to four sections, and even into subsections. I will add to this section FREQUENTLY. Note: not all may have used in the actual series.

    Great Warriors

I wonder what the Gathering will be like," mewed Ravenpaw.

It'll be fantastic," Graypaw mewed confidently, "I bet all the great warriors will be there. Clawface, Stonefur...
    -Into the Wild
    pg. 137 (paperback version)

Great Warriors. Considering all the border patrols, fights and battles, as well as Gatherings and a few other meetings between individual Clans, it's not surprising that some warriors gain incredible reknown. But Graypaw's comment brings up an interesting question.

    What is a "great" warrior?

    We'll start with Graypaw's examples.

    Clawface
Mentioning Clawface is a bit ironic, as he later kills Spottedleaf. Then, rather than being loyal to his Clan, he followed Brokenstar into exile. In doing so, he flouts the warrior code and all it stands for. And he is beaten by Firepaw, an apprentice, in battle. If Whitestorm had not reminded Firepaw that ThunderClan was honorable, even if the enemy wasn't, Firepaw could and would have killed Clawface.

    Stonefur
Stonefur and Clawface are polar opposites. Stonefur sticks to the warrior code completely and wholly, and was loyal to his Clan, even when he discovered that Bluestar was his mother. He is a fierce and skillful fighter, a challenging oppenent, even when he was weak after being mistreated in The Darkest Hour. He may disobey orders, but it is only when they are immoral.

    .

So, looking at these two examples alone, we gain great insight to what might consitiute a "great" warrior. Looking at these examples and others, one can divide the possible influences in a warrior's "greatness."

    .

Factors in the Making of a "Great" Warrior

    Major Factors

  • Fighting ability - This is an easy one. If a warrior can fight well, obviously he/she will be respected, because they are a threat. Now that is not to say that if a warrior cannot fight well, then they are not a great warrior, but it cannot be denied that that fighting skills can be a crucial factor.

  • Honor - This is where a warrior will usually stick to the warrior code, but will break it for the greater good or if the code tells them to follow instructions to do something that would be immoral. For example, in The Darkest Hour, Stonefur refused to follow Tigerstar's orders and kill Stormpaw and Featherpaw, even though, at that time, Tigerstar was his leader. If a warrior acts with unusual integrity and respect, it is a sure thing that it will be noticed.

    .

    Minor Factors

  • Rank - This one is simple. If a warrior is deputy or Clan leader, it is common knowlegde that they will be well-known throughout the Clans.

  • Humor - Some warrriors seem to become incredibly popular on pure likablity and wit. Examples of this would be Graystripe, Sorreltail, and Cinderpelt. It is mentioned in the books that all were popular among the other Clans, and their own.

  • Heritage - It is probably another factor about the cat's parents. If the cat is the daughter or son of a Clan leader or Deputy, it will affect what the other cats expect of them. However, this is still only a minor factor, because a cat is not his or her parents, unless they make very similar choices.

    .

    Disputable

  • Clan Loyalty/Loyalty to the Warrior Code - This is considered disputed because one would normally expect these things from a warrior. It would possibly add to their attributes, but it is probably not a key factor.

  • Prophecy involvement - This is disputed because prophecies are not normally part of Clan life, apart from the ones recieved by medicine cats and Clan leaders. True, warriors that are highly involved in prophecies will gain incredible fame and (in most cases) respect, but usually, the warrior has the attributes of an honorable warrior in the first place.

    .

So, it is easy to see, one cannot simply explain away why a warrior would be considered "great." The finer underpinnings of each characters personality must be considered. And there is the perspecitive of each individual warrior and Clan itself. What may make one warrior seem great to one Clan may make it repulsive to another. And the other factor of how and why gossip travels is brought into play as well. Considering the simplicity of what Graypaw said, it is hard to believe that he could judge so easily what or what not a "great" warrior was. It is not so simple, that fact is clear.
