Juniors story begins when he was only 6 months old. This is the first thing he remembers about his life. It is possible that the beginning was too awful and his mind had blocked it out. His memory brings us to a place far out in the wilderness. When Junior opened his eyes all he could see was orange. He was surrounded, the fire seemed to be leaping at him from all sides. He tried to move his legs but the pain was unbearable. He could feel a searing pain on his thigh and shoulder. He twisted his head to see what could cause him such pain. At first he thought his fur was on fire. A closer look revealed a brilliant orange marking on his thigh and shoulder. The young wolf knew he had to get out of the area before he was injured anymore. He dragged his aching body towards the only place he did not see flames. The feel of dirt under his body was replaced by hard stone. Junior raised his head and looked around. He seemed to be in some sort of building, everything was harsh and white. The only light coming from the burning forest outside. He crept forward warily, this place felt familiar. He had a bad feeling though like something horrible had happened here. As he inched forward his paws slid out from under him. He landed in some sort of liquid. He yelped in pain as the slime started burning his fur. It was all over his paws and tail, he watched as his once red fur turned a charcoal grey before his eyes. The only thing he could think to do was get it off and quick. The licked his paws frantically, all of the sudden a burning sensation was coming from his back. The pain was so unbearable. He could barely see the two bumps that were -invalid_word-ing between his shoulders. They were coming out of him -invalid_word-ing two leathery wings. Junior did not know what to think, how could all this be happening. He wanted it to be over. No, he needed it to be over. He closed his eyes hoping for the end. Suddenly he felt his paws lifting off the ground. It was over, he must be dead...... He was wrong his new wings were lifting him off the cold cement and toward the sky that was still burning a dull red. Junior was too tired to resist. He just tryed concentrating on helping his wings carry him toward the cliff high above. He landed with a thump on the top of the cliff. He looked down to see the burning forest and stone walls of an enormous building. He could just make out the radiation signs printed all over the area. He eyes were going blurry, he could not keep them open any longer. The last thing he saw that day was the glowing turquoise eyes of a wolf looming over him. The next thing he knew he was lying on a soft patch of grass. He opened his eyes not daring to move. He once again saw the kind, stern face belonging to those glowing eyes. My name is Crinsom," the wolf said, "I hope you are feeling better, you have been sleeping for almost a fortnight." Over the next few days the young injured wolf gathered his strength. He knew he owed his life to this kind soul. He soon saw that they were not alone either, two other wolves came and went, bringing him food and water. He learned that they were called Kiviro and Wryly. As his power returned to him he learned how play and be friends. The reflection from the pond nearby showed him his changed body. He accepted his new look and was even begining to enjoy having his wings. They were quite useful for sneak attacks on his playmates. He could not remember his name so they just called him Junior, he was the youngest after all. He continued to live with his savior and his family. Junior grew up to be playful and carefree, but he would always be reminded of that fateful day in the forest. |
