FISHING MADE EASY: NEWS UPDATE
Thanks to all who sent me neomails with the confirmed information from the Neopian times that Paintbrushes are indeed catchable but an extremely rare catch. I will have a full update on the confirmed Paintbrush news.
Myself and others have known about the Paintbrushes for along time but had trouble confirming it. Thanks to TNT for answering the question. I am sorry to those who might have been offended for me not posting their findings earlier, but I like to be 100% sure before posting it on my page.

THE BASICS

Q. Where is the Underwater Fishing Game located?
A. The UnderWater Fishing Game is located in the Maraquan Ruins. You can start fishing by clicking HERE
Q. How often can I fish?
A. This is thought to be random. Personally I try every 8 hours or so. Early morning, Early Evening and Late Night.
Q. Do you catch something every 8 hours?
A. No. I find though that the more you try the better the chance of catching something sooner. Rather than waiting 12 or 24 hours, try more frequently.

Q. What is the average time between catches?
A. The average time between catches is between 12 and 24 hours. If you only try once every 24 hours you will almost always catch something.
Q. What is the longest time a user has gone without catching something while trying often.
A. Some users have fished often and gone 3-4 days between catches.
Q. Does your waiting time reset if you try to fish to often?
A. No. Some people including myself have gained 2 Levels in 2 hours, as well as 3 Levels in less than 12 hours. Thus proving that going more often does not reset your waiting time.
Q. What is the fastest a pet has gained 2 skill levels?
A. The fastest confirmed time for gaining 2 skill levels by the same pet is 1 Hr.
Q. Is there a time of day/hour/minute that will increase my chances of success?
A. No. At least it has not been proven. Again, most events that happen in this game are thought to be totally RANDOM.
Q. Can I fish with more than 1 pet?
A. Yes. You can fish with all your pets. I encourage you to do this. You will find that certain pets get "hot streaks" and gain levels faster than your others. The opposite is true when you hit a "cold streak". If you are fishing with all your pets you will get to higher levels faster.
Q. Do certain Species such as Maraquan Pets have an advantage when playing the Underwater Fishing Game?
A. I do not believe that the type of Species has any affect on how well or how poorly you do when playing the Underwater Fishing Game. Random, Random, Random.
Q. Do items such as the lucky fishing hat, basic fishing set, and fishing gnomes help in the Underwater Fishing game?
A. These items DO NOT help in the Underwater Fishing game. These items were released in shops on the first day of the fishing game. They are NOT catchable.
Q. If I abandon a pet will it lose its fishing skill levels?
A. If it is abandoned and then adopted by someone else then it's level will be set back to 1.
Q. If I transfer a pet to a side account and then move it back to my main account, will it's fishing skill level be set back to 1.
A. While it is at the side account it will start at skill level 1 again. When you move it back to account that it originally came from all your fishing skill levels will be regained.
Transferring pets is risky and you could lose them in the pound. I do not promote this. I am just letting users know what happens if you do attempt it.

THE SKILL LEVEL
Q. What is the Fishing Skill Level?
A. The Fishing Skill Level is a ranking system for your expertise or how experienced you are at catching fish.
Q. How do I increase my Fishing Skill Level?
A. This is a random event when catching an item at the Underwater Fishing Game.
Q. Do I have to catch an Item to gain a Skill Level?
A. Yes. Gaining a Skill Level can only happen when an Item is caught.
Q. Does my Skill Level increase everytime I catch an Item?
A. No. You can catch an Item and not have an increase in Skill Level.
Q. Does your Skill Level have an effect on which items can be caught?
A. Yes. Please refer to the bottom of the page to see what Items can be caught at certain levels.
Q. Does a higher skill level mean I have a better chance of catching a rare item?
A. Yes. Some examples of this are at the bottom of the page.

Q. Do I still catch Lower Level Items when I reach higher Fishing Skill Levels?
A. Yes, Lower Level Items can be caught at any Skill Level.
Q. Where do I see my fishing skill level?
A. You can see fishing skill levels on a pets lookup page.
Q. Is there an official high score table for fishing skill levels?
A. Neopets does not have one as of yet.

THE CATCH

Q. How many Items can be caught?
A. Currently there are 87 items that are unique to the fishing game.

Q. What types of Items can be caught?
A. There are all kinds of different Items including Food, Battledome Equipment, Books, Magic Potions, Art, Toys and Garden Supplies.

Q. What items are currently catchable?
A. All of the original 87 items that are currently catchable and are listed in the table below.

Q. Will there be more items added later to catch?
A. The Neopets Team says"In the future, yes we may well release some more, but those should keep you busy for a while."

Update: December 29th 2006 the following was posted in the News. "This strange creature has been seen swimming in Neopian waters recently. We'd advise keeping your Neopet far, far away from it. *shudder*"

The Neopet-Eating Carp is the 88th item that is catchable in the Underwater Fishing Game. The first Neopet-Eating Carp was caught at around 6:50 PM January 2 2007 by gjc777 the Faerie Kacheek owned by grjocu777. gjc777 caught it at Fishing Skill Level 257.
Q. Can my Pet eat the fish it catches?
A. Yes.
Q. Are there any fish that my pet can not eat?
A. Yes. There are 2 fish it cannot eat they are the Rockfish and the Neopet-eating Carp. Note: The exception to this are pets that can eat most any item. The Grarrl and Skeith.
Q. I caught a Bag of Broken Neopoints. Can I get them fixed?
A. Yes. You can get them fixed HERE .
Q. Is it worth it to get the Bag of Broken Neopoints fixed?
A. Not really. You will receive 2000 NP or less plus it will usually cost 200-500 Np to fix it. Sometimes Donny will fix it for free. At the moment you can get more Np (aprox 2000†) for the Bag of Broken Neopoints on the Shop Wiz.
Update: I tested fixing 6 bags of broken neopoints on July 23,2005 with the following results.
I received 1896 NP,1343 NP,1295 NP,1887 NP,1159 NP and 1487 NP. It cost an average of 365 NP each time to fix them. It is still not worth it to fix them.

New Update: I tested fixing 6 bags of broken neopoints on October 15,2005 with the following results.
I received 1349 NP,1622 NP,1963 NP,1703 NP,1252 NP and 1759 NP. It cost an average of 411 NP each time to fix them. It is still not worth it to fix them.

Q. SO many people post that they have gotten a million NP from a Bag of Broken Neopoints in the trading post when they are trading them. Is this true or is this just another scam people are using? What is the most NP you can get from the Broken bag of Neopoints?
A. This is quite false. The bag does not give anywhere close to 1,000,000 Neopoints. Anyone who says so is trying to scam you and should be reported. The maximum Donny will give you when repairing this item is 2,000 NP.

Now really, how would a million NP fit in a tiny bag like me?
NOTE: There was a glitch back when the Bag of Broken Neopoints was first caught. You could take it to the Repair Shop get it fixed for NP but the item did not disappear. You could fix it over and over. Many people made 100's of thousands of NP with many being FROZEN for doing so.
Q. Can the Bag of Broken Neopoints be used to get the Broken Avatar?
A. Yes. If you take the Bag of Broken Neopoints or any broken toy to the Repair Shop and have it fixed you will receive the "Broken" avatar.
Q. I caught a Broken Fishing Pole and a Broken Sailboat. Can they be fixed?
A. No. These items are classed as "special" not as a "broken toy". They cannot be used to receive the "Broken" avatar.
Q. When I reach higher levels do I catch rare or valuable items more often.
A. No, most of the time you will catch fish and garden items that sell for very little in shops (1-5 NP). Being at higher levels does give you the chance of catching rare or valuable items though.

THE AVATAR

Q. Is there an Avatar for The Underwater Fishing Game?
A. Yes. It looks like this.

The saying that went with it was "Show everyone just what a dedicated fisherman you are with this nifty avatar!

Q. Does anyone have the Avatar yet?
A. Yes, I was the 1st person to receive the Avatar at 3:10 PM NST Aug 29/05

Note: Many users have the Fishing Avatar now since many are reaching Skill Level 80 and beyond and catching the Titanic Giant Squid.

Q. How do I get this Avatar?
A. You have to catch a Titanic Giant Squid.

Q. Can I get the Fishing Avatar by buying a Titanic Giant Squid and placing it in my inventory?
A. No, you will not get the Fishing Avatar if you purchase the Titanic Giant Squid. You have to catch a Titanic Giant Squid.

Q. What level did you catch the Titanic Giant Squid at?
A. I caught it at level 94.

Q. What is the lowest confirmed fishing skill level that a Titanic Giant Squid has been caught?
A.The lowest confirmed fishing skill level that a Titanic Giant Squid has been caught is 80.

Q.Now that more people have the avatar, what is the average Fishing Skill Level that a pet is catching the Titanic Giant Squid at?
A. The average Fishing Skill Level that a pet has caught a Titanic Giant Squid is Levels 81-85. The highest skill level a user has gone before they caught the Titanic Giant Squid is 152. A few users are currently over Level 150 and are keeping me posted as to when they finally catch the Titanic Giant Squid.

Q.What happens if I catch the Titanic Giant Squid for the first time and I also get a random event on the same page?
A.There is a chance that the random event will cancel out getting the Avatar. This has happened to a few users. If this happens I suggest sending in a bug report with an explaination. Otherwise you may have to wait till you catch another one. Trust me, you will catch more. :)

The Book's

Q. I caught the book Fishing Made Easy". What happens when I read it?
A. Wow, that was a great book, you learned a lot from Fishing Made Easy!!! Super_Spike says 'Wow! Thank you very much, I love reading!' Fishing Made Easy vanishes in a puff of yellow smoke!

Q. Can I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" more than once?
A. No. Like all books on Neopets, you can only read a book once and then it vanishes in a puff of smoke.
Q. Can I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" to each pet?
A. Yes, but you will need a book for each pet.
Q. Can I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" more than once to the same pet?
A. No. Your pet will say that they have already read the book "Fishing Made Easy".
Q.Do I gain Fishing Skill Levels when I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" to my pet?
A. Yes. I gained 1-3 Fishing Skill Levels when I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" to my pet.

Q. Do all my pets gain Fishing Skill Levels when I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" in English to 1 of my pets?
A. No. Only the Pet that the book is read to will gain 1-3 skill levels.

Q. If I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" in a language other than English to 1 of my pets, will all my pets gain 1-3 skill levels?
A. UPDATE - All pets did gain 1-3 skill levels, but as of April 18/06 this feature has failed to work.
Q. Do I have to play the Underwater Fishing Game before I read the book "Fishing Made Easy" to gain levels?
A. Yes. If you read the book "Fishing Made Easy" before you have ever played Underwater Fishing you will not gain any levels. As well you can only read the book once. So you would be wasting the book if you did this, if your intentions were to gain levels.
Q. My pet will not read the book "Fishing Made Easy", he says it is boring. Why is this?
A. There are certain letter combinations, word lengths etc... that cause this. This is something Neopets has had for along time and will not change it. You can try changing languages.

IMPORTANT: Up until July 25, 2005 you could read 1 book in English and all your pets skill levels went up.

Q. I caught the book On Gelert Pond". What happens when I read it?
A. Super_Spike says 'Thanks, you are my favourite owner!' On Gelert Pond vanishes in a puff of red smoke!
Q.Do I gain Fishing Skill Levels when I read the book "On Gelert Pond" to my pet?
A. No.
Q. I caught a Waterlogged Book". What happens when I read it?
A. Super_Spike says 'Thanks, you are my favourite owner!' Waterlogged Book vanishes in a puff of red smoke!
NOTE: This book was NOT readable up until about Aug 10/05. It is readable now.
Q.Do I gain Fishing Skill Levels when I read the book "Waterlogged Book" to my pet?
A. No.
Q. I caught the book The Old Mynci and the Sea". What happens when I read it?
A. SPIKE_MAN_JR says 'Wow! Thank you very much, I love reading!' The Old Mynci and the Sea vanishes in a puff of purple smoke!
Q.Do I gain Fishing Skill Levels when I read the book "The Old Mynci and the Sea" to my pet?
A. No.

The Special Items

Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water

Q.What does the Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water do?
A.It turns your pet a random colour. I tested the Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water on my pet Magistraverda the Mutant Bruce and it turned into a Glowing Bruce.

Q. Can I tell what colour my pet will turn when my pet drinks the water?
A. No. This is random and you take a chance when drinking this.

Q. Is the Flask of Rainbow Fountain water a 1 use item?
A. Yes. It is 1 use and then disappears.

Q. If I use the Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water on the Buzz species of pet, will I recieve the Buzzin' Avatar?
A.NO, you will not get the Buzzin' Avatar. This was tested out by the user "brennasman" on a Red Buzz, it turned into a Halloween Buzz. It did not however get him the Buzzin' Avatar. Thanks for testing it and getting me the info.
Q. What was the "Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water" originally called?
A. The original name of the item was "Flash of Rainbow Fountain Water." On May 23, 2006 I was informed that the name had been changed to "Flask of Rainbow Fountain Water." Thanks lady_darkheart_ for the update.

Q.What does the Irritable Genie-in-a-Bottle do?
A. I tested the Irritable Genie-in-a-Bottle on my pet Magistraverda and the genie gave it 3 Pet Levels(Not Fishing Skill Levels but "real" Pet Levels.)
Another user has tested 3 bottles and their pet gained 1,2 and 3 Pet Levels. So it it looks like it is random from 1-3 Pet Levels when used.

Q. Is the Irritable Genie-in-a-Bottle a 1 use item?
A. Yes. It is 1 use and then disappears.

Mysterious Swirly Potion
Q.What does the Mysterious Swirly Potion do?
A.Your pet drinks the potion and there is a blinding flash!!!! Magistraverda is now a Tonu

I tested the Mysterious Swirly Potion on my pet Magistraverda. She was a Yellow Korbat before I gave her the Mysterious Swirly Potion. After I gave it to her she turned into a Yellow Tonu.

Another user tested it on their Yellow Pteri and it turned into a Yellow Kiko.
Another user tested it on their Rainbow JubJub and it turned into a Rainbow Tonu.
Another user tested it on their Darigan Kyrii and it turned into a Darigan Tonu.
Another user tested it on their Tyranian Moehog and it turned into a Blue Kiko.
Another user tested it on their Darigan Usul and it turned into a Red Koi.
Another user tested it on their Chokato Chia and it turned into a Blue Cybunny.
Another user tested it on their Faerie Lupe and it turned into a Blue Hissi.
Another user tested it on their Robot Shoyru and it turned into a Robot Koi.Then they tested it on the Robot Koi and it turned into a Red Poogle.
Another user tested it on their Grey Wocky and it turned into a Grey Cybunny.
Another user tested it on their Darigan Kougra and it turned into a Darigan Jetsam.
Another user tested it on their Plushie Aisha and it turned into a Plushie Kiko.
Another user tested it on their Plushie Buzz and it turned into a Plushie Hissi.
Another user tested it on their Darigan Yurble and it turned into a Darigan Hissi.
Another user tested it on their Faerie Grundo and it turned into a Faerie Tonu.
Q. Does the Mysterious Swirly Potion turn my pet into a Limited Edition Pet?
A.Yes. From the tests so far all pets have turned into a Limited Edition pet. Confirmed so far are Kiko's, Koi's, Cybunny's, Tonu's, Poogle's, Hissi's and Jetsams.
Q. Does the Limited Edition pet keep the colour of the Original pets colour?
A. Yes. There is an exception to this rule though. If the same colour is not available in the Limited Edition pets colour choices, it will be changed to a different random basic colour.
4 examples of this are:
Tyranian Moehog turned into a Blue Kiko. No Tyranian Kiko colour available
Darigan Usul turned into a Red Koi. No Darigan Koi colour available.
Chokato Chia turned into a Blue Cybunny. No Chokato Cybunny colour available.
Faerie Lupe turned into a Blue Hissi. No Faerie Hissi colour available.
Q. Is the Mysterious Swirly Potion a 1 use item?
A. Yes. It is 1 use and then disappears.

Pant Devil Attractor
Q.What does the Pant Devil Attractor do?
A. When the Pant Devil tries to steal an item from your inventory he is attracted to Pant Devil Attractor instead of your other items.
Q.Does the Pant Devil Attractor attract the Pant Devil to your inventory?
A. No. The Pant Devil Attractor will not attract him to your inventory but once he is in your inventory he will be attracted to the Pant Devil Attractor.
Q.Does the Pant Devil Attractor attract the Pant Devil 100% of the time?
A. No. In my testing there was 1 time that the Pant Devil was not attracted to the Pant Devil Attractor.
Q.What if I put more than 1 Pant Devil Attractor in my inventory?
A. When I was using 5 Pant Devil Attractor's in my inventory the Pant Devil took 1 of them 100% of the time.
Q.Will having the Pant Devil Attractor in my inventory help me get the "I Taunt the Pant Devil Avatar"?

A. No. You need to refresh your inventory with one of the following items in it: Tiki Armour or Mystery Palm Shield.
Note: If you keep 5 or so Pant Devil Attractor's in your inventory while you are refreshing you will have a greater chance of not losing your very expensive "I Taunt the Pant Devil" Avatar items.
My first tests had 1 Pant Devil Attractor and 49 items in inventory. Only once did the Pant Devil take an item other than Pant Devil Attractor.
My second tests had 5 Pant Devil Attractor's and 100 items in my inventory. The Pant Devil took the Pant Devil Attractor's 100% of the time.
