An introduction

The lupess who had just spoken was small, and sickly-looking. She had muddy fur, with spots of silver dotting her front legs, and twin rivulets of silver fur underneath her eyes. A teardrop marking shown brightly on her forehead. Her eyes were watery-green, and looked sore, as if crying was part of her daily routine.

What are you doing here?! she said, looking distinctly unhappy about meeting a stranger. No one ever comes into these woods for very long. Most people can't stand the cold. Your mouth opened, then closed, as you tried to come up with something to say.

The lupess turned, abruptly, and sprinted away as fast as her legs could carry her. The fresh snow crackled under her pawsteps, and a howl tore from her throat and echoed into the night.
