The stars should be brighter...
Shivering, you pull your jacket on tighter and continue walking down the deserted path of the forest. You see your breath rise out in white plumes and your teeth begin to chatter. A long, spooky moan rings out. Terrified, you look around for a place of shelter.
Suddenly, you spy a huge yellow light in the sky above you. The letter "C" is in the center of it. A second later, you find yourself stumbling through the bracken, trying to find the light source. The forest thins out abruptly, a large tree located in the center of the clearing. A small creature with a cape lands on the ground near you.
A beautiful kougra ushers you inside the hollow tree and seats you at a small table. She gestures to the small creature you saw before, then sits back on her haunches to stare intently. "Welcome," speaks the tiny pea chia, "...to our Headquarters."
It's so hard to see...
His Epic Tale
This is a story that I'm writing about Corpheld. It will be continued and elaborated on, maybe even become a series, but for now, this is just the beginning...
---
Messenger of the Skies
Dawn broke over Faerieland in a pale rosey light. Most creatures were still sleeping when the small chia, clad in a red cape, knocked on the large wooden door of Queen Fyora's castle. With hidden excitement, he calmly awaited the sack of scrolls he was to receive.
Sprinting with his tan bag, he set off on his job with a will. With a smile stretching across his face, Corpheld delivered the first scroll. Little did he know that trouble was choosing him as her next victim.

~-~
Corpheld drank water from the Healing Springs, exhausted from his tiring tasks and grateful for the pretty water faerie's kindness. Although he loved running about, transporting the Faerie Queen's messages for all to read, he was beginning to feel unsatisfied with his life in Faerieland. He wanted to help people, but what he wanted most was recognition for his deeds.
And so the Dark Faerie, Jhudora, decided to make her move. "Ah, my, my, my. Do my eyes deceive me, or is that a
super hero I spy before me?" Dear Corpheld never stood a chance against her terrible cunning.
Corp, eyes shining, managed a reply, "Do you really think so, miss?" Jhudora knew she had him hooked.
~-~
The dark red cape fluttered in the wind as Corpheld hovered above his adoring fans. Their cheers reached his ears and he smirked. Turning to his petpet Pod, a green Miamouse and long time pal, he said, "What do you think of my latest escapade?
They obviously enjoyed it." He motioned to the crowd of neopets below.
Fluttering with his owner, Pod purred in approval. A smug look appeared on Corp's face. "I knew it. I'm the greatest hero that has ever flown over these skies." Pod looked at him, surprised at his reply.
Pod cocked his head to the side and purred in a voice of puzzlement and concern.
Corp cut him off. "Pfft. Who cares about how I started out, you dim-witted fool? What matters now is that I'm the hero, and nothing will change that." Corpheld descended in a huff into the crowd below, leaving Pod stunned and hurt.
From her tower, Queen Fyora witnessed the scene. It was time that Corpheld was punished for all of his actions.
~-~
Corp sighed in delight as his feet touched the soft clouds once more. No more stubbing his toes on rocks and tripping over gnarled roots. He loathed the Haunted Woods. No way was he going to
ever live there.
Jhudora cackled at the sight she beheld on her crystal ball. At the very moment Corpheld was vowing to never live in those woods, Queen Fyora had decided his fate for being so cruel and conceited. He was to be banished to the Haunted Woods!
Corpheld was summoned to the Faerie Council to receive punishment for his attitude toward the other neopians. The Faerie Queen herself addressed him. "You'll still be a hero--do not fret about that. However, since you do not like the land beneath our skies, I banish you to the Haunted Woods. You will live there, wander there, and be alone. You shall only fly in these wonderous skies when your duty calls you to help neopians. Everyone will adore Core, the super hero, but no one will even know your name. And until someone recognizes you for not only Core, but for Corpheld too, you will forever wander those woods alone." Shocked, Corp nodded and went to retrieve his belongings.
With a heavy heart and a light knapsack, Corpheld landed in the Haunted Woods. Sighing, he began searching for shelter. "One day," he said, "I will return to Faerieland. I'll find a way. I'll find a way...

And so begins the tale of the brave hero Core.
My chest is growing tighter...

Oh, to break free!

Apokeylypse, a.k.a., Pokey.
Pokey is the oldest
and the baby of the family. He dislikes me at times for pointing this out, but I do it anyways. He's extremely intelligent and claims he's not baby-like in the least, but he throws tantrums and whines constantly. I must sadly say that he is in denial. And he probably always will be, because I will
not repaint him. I refuse. I am stubborn.

Syphye, a.k.a., Sy.
Syphye is my big dummy. He's also a lab rat. (He's a he at the time I'm writing this!) He's called Sy for short, mostly because I am lazy. But he's okay with it. He's not too bright and he has an accent, but someday he will be a faerie meerca. He's excited about it, for some reason or another, and I have become curious as to what will happen; An elegant being with beautiful wings and a "Syphye" personality. I can see it now...

Etnai
Etnai is the current lab rat and the center of my fostering at the moment. Etnai started off as a yellow Shoyru I rescued from the pound, became an Aisha, and is now a Buzz. Although he isn't painted, and I have no plans for him as of yet, he's beginning to grow on me. I fell in love with his name, so I may end up keeping him. If that happens, Etnai will probably be the spazz of the family. If he stays a buzz, he's going to be fluttering about constantly, talking about random things, and ranting and/or spazzing out about something that happened in previous days. (Sort of like me!) If I don't keep him, he's going to go to a great owner.
There's a line I crossed...

You gave a grateful sigh, your stiff limbs warmed by the tea and blanket Corp had provided. He offers you the spare bedroom upstairs, but you gently decline. "Lyhty will walk you to the edge of the woods," he says as he opens the front door. "But remember, if you ever need anything...just send up the sign." You nod, stepping outside.
Lyhty leads you away from the headquarters and out of the woods. But as you leave, you look up.
The yellow "C" is still blazing in the night sky.
