News
The pound is now open and many of the agencies are working on their pages and on adding new pets into their agencies. The numbers listed here may be off since their numbers will change daily and I will only be doing complete updates weekly.

If you have an adoption agency that you run (or an agency that you know is current), please neomail me at my Arrelie account so that I can add it to the directory. If you neomail my Cieque account I cannot guarantee you will be added as I need to keep anything pertaining to Cieque's Directory of Adoption Agencies on this account only (I'm very absent-minded and will forget to add you unless I get the neomail on the correct account and update it as soon as I read the neomail).

As of May 9, 2008, extreme petpage applications can no longer be a requirement for pets. This information was include in The Neopian Times Issue 342. What this means is that no owner may require you to do a petpage application for any pet. This does not mean you cannot do a petpage application if you decide to. Nor does it mean the the owner cannot ask you to write an "essay." (All agencies previouly in the Petpage Application Only section have been moved to the Detailed Neomail Application section).

The agencies in darker green are the ones that I recommend. I will reserve this recommendation for very few agencies. Even if I do not recommend a certain agency, it doesn't make it any less important.

As of May 24, 2008, I have added and area to allow me to mark whether a particular agency also has an area for pet trades. I've also added a section for those that run trade only agencies. I am not condoning the trading of pet, but I will supply the information to help those that are interested in trading their pets. There are a few basic rules that apply to just about every agency.
DO:
  • Please show common courtesy to all owners/fosters.
  • Remember that you are never guaranteed the pet. Once he or she is in the pound, it is up to you to catch him or her.
  • Be sure to read the rules on each individual agency's page. The rules I mention are very general.
  • Please DO put a little effort into your application. Even if the pet requires no application at all, it would be good to write more than "Can I have your pet?" when sending a neomail.
  • Be sure to check to see if there are any phrases that are mentioned in the rules that need to be included in your neomail. This can sometimes be a way for the owners to know if you actually read the rules or not.
  • Be sure to contact the correct person/account when applying for a pet.
  • Remember your account must be at least 4 months old in order to adopt a pet above level 2, a limited edition and/or a painted pet other than blue, brown, checkered, glowing, green, invisible, orange, pink, purple, red, shadow, silver, skunk, speckled, split, white, or yellow. This is a Neopets' rule.
  • Last, but not least, use some common sense when applying for a pet.
DO NOT:
  • Do NOT use chatspeak. Please use proper grammar and punctuation when neomailing an owner.
  • Do NOT beg for the pets.
  • Do NOT refer to the pet as an 'it'. The pet is either a he or a she.
  • Do NOT try to bribe the owner, nor buy the pet by offering nps or items. That is against Neopets' rules. If an agency tries to get you to pay for the pet in any way please notify me so that I may remove them from this list.
  • Repounding the pet is frowned upon and may prevent you from adopting in the future. If an emergency arises in which you must repound the pet, please contact the previous owner first.
  • Pounding a current pet in order to adopt a pet is frowned upon.
  • In some cases, labbing the pet is frowned upon. Please check with the individual agency or owner beforehand.
  • Reusing applications is sometimes frowned upon.
  • Do NOT use someone else's application.
  • Do NOT adopt a pet in order to trade him/her for something 'better'.
Note: Just because an adoption agency is small doesn't mean that you will not find the pet of your dreams there. Even if an agency has only one pet, the one pet may just be the pet you are looking for. Good luck in your search.

Updates
Each day I check my neomails and update any additional agencies that I have received. Every so often I go through all of the agencies to verify that it still exists. I also update the # of Pets and whether they have Basic, Limited Edition, and Painted Pets. The information that you see next to each agency is the information that I have collected when doing my complete update.
