![]() Hey there, Neopians! My name is Chrysizon, and I'm nice enough to host the Screenie Lovers Anonymous Homepage. This page is for guild members and guild applicants alike -- there's a little bit of everything for everyone who may need to know something. Anyway, you can take a look around now... Just make sure not to break anything while you're browsing... Latest revision: January 24th, 2010 Lots of things updated and revised. |

![]() Previous Screenie Masters! | Pyro_Pete's Screenies | | Sassie's Screenies | | Manga's Screenies | | Seiya's Random Screenies | Seiya's Neoboard Screenies | | Fruiteh's Screenies | How can I be a Best Screenier? The best way to earn the Master Screenier rank is to be chosen for a Best Screenier poll, and then gain the most votes in the poll. There are three things you can do to better assure your chances of being in a Best Screenier poll. ● Be active. ● Become a Screenie Artist. ● Be a generally nice person. Since there are so many members, it's often hard to choose who will be in and who will have to wait, so if you don't get in a poll, don't worry! There's always next time. Any other information I should know? Absolutely. Make sure you understand a few simple things, whether you participate in the poll or not, as they can change the way the guild is run from time to time. ● The Best Screenier poll is held every once in a while, mostly at the discretion of whoever is running it. The decision to hold it so rarely was made recently, so I understand that maybe the long wait may seem like a while to most veterans. The poll itself is held on the last Saturday of the month in which the competition takes place. ● A week prior to the Best Screenier poll, Aokajin will go through and delete any inactive members that haven't been around for a month or more (unless they have been flagged with an admin capability, meaning they're exempt). During that time, absolutely, positively NO new members will be allowed in. When the poll has wrapped up and Aokajin has taken a valid screenie of the poll, the guild will be reopened for applications. ● There are no prizes for winning the poll, as it's just a competition in the spirit of rewarding someone with praises for their hard work. Aokajin or perhaps any other council member will make a custom award, but that's all. The guild council or other members are absolutely under no obligation to send the winner anything as a reward if they do not choose to do so. And that's it! Good luck! |
![]() Screenie Lovers Anonymous has grown, and we're branching out a little... So a few more rules have been added or altered to suit the needs of a larger guild. Please read them carefully! (1) NEOBOARD RULES APPLY to the guild message boards. No swearing, no controversial subjects, no spamming... Those are the basics, but please go over the neoboard rules if you have no idea what they're all about. ;D (2) Don't heckle or otherwise harass other members. If you feel you're being bothered by another member, report it to a council member immediately and wait for them to resolve it. A good rule of thumb is that if someone is heckling you, just ignore them until a council member takes care of it. (3) Stay active. Post often, and remain in touch with a council member if you are not going to be posting in the guild for a while, for whatever reason. A simple neomail letting one of them know you're going on hiatus is fine. If you are inactive, you MAY be deleted, especially if a Best Screenier competition is near.

![]() Lurker Qualifications: None Description: Basic entry-level rank. You don't have to have screenies to obtain this rank, obviously. Nothing's wrong with being a screenie lurker. You love screenies! That's true for all of us, isn't it? Any members of any rank, Lurker and Up, are eligible to receive a Member of the Month nomination. HOWEVER, you must post at least fifty times on the guild message boards to advance beyond lurker rank. You can NOT advance even if you rate, have screenies, or even if you're the equivalent of some kind of screenie deity. |
|
Maker Qualifications: Must have screenies. Description: Congrats on being a screenier! Being a screenie maker makes you eligible for lending and auctions, and it also nets you a chance to be featured in the Screenier of the Month section! |
|
Noble Qualifications: Must rate screenies or give awards. Description: This rank is equivalent to the Maker rank, but with a different twist; anyone bearing the Noble title rates screenies or gives awards. You do not have to be a screenier to obtain this rank, but screeniers are welcome to obtain it! There are no more benefits to being a Noble than there are to being a Maker. |
|
Artist Qualifications: Must have at least 75 Screenies (or) Must have thirty awards or screenied neomails (or) Must have a nomination from a council or sub-council member. Description: A Screenie Artist is the most prestigious rank one can earn without being entered into the Best Screenier Poll. Being a Screenie Artist allows you to be considered first for a Best Screenier Poll before all Makers and Nobles. To obtain the recommendation from a council member, simply ask a council member to recommend you to Aokajin (or ask Aokajin himself), but remember that you will be reviewed before obtaining this esteemed rank. |
|
Master Qualifications: Get the most votes in the Best Screenier poll. Description: The most honorable title in SLA. While there is no direct benefit such as a neopoint or item reward for attaining this rank, the title does get you linked to from the Screenie Lovers Anonymous homepage, a custom award by Aokajin or another council member, and the prestige of having been voted as the Best Screenier by your SLA peers. You will never be deleted from the guild (unless you do something REALLY bad or your account is frozen), even if you go totally inactive. ;D But please make sure to leave your screenies intact, if possible! |
![]() Lately there have been a lot of requests for a Message Board Etiquette section, so I'll go over a few of the neopian and guild rules so everyone can understand the consequences for breaking them. ● Do not SPAM the board. In SLA's case, the definiton for SPAM will be "short, pointless, annoying message." SPAMming will get your messages deleted, and if you abuse the boards by consecutively posting extremely short, pointless, and annoying messages, all of your messages will be deleted in one sweep, and you may receive a warning. If you continue after you're warned, you will be deleted and will not be reconsidered for being reinvited. The council doesn't like spam - not even in a sandwich. ● Do not cuss. That's a given. Don't spell foul words differently to circumvent the filters. Do not discuss religion, politics, or profane or offensive topics, either. These are neoboard rules, and any posts seen with controversial content will be deleted without warning. If you persist to post these things after being warned, you will be deleted from the guild and there will be no consideration for your reinstatement. ● Do not post personal contact information. If you wish to exchange contact information, please do so in neomail. Posting contact information IS against the rules, so do it at your own risk - putting the guild at risk is not a kindly thing to do. ● Refrain from stretching the board. If you are going to post a long link, PLEASE put a space in the link per every twenty to thirty characters. This will ensure that the link does not stretch the board! If you are seen constantly stretching the board on purpose, you will be suspended for a week before being allowed to return again. If you do it again after you are reinstated, you'll be deleted without a second thought and will not be reconsidered. ● Don't harass other members under any circumstances. If you are being harrassed, please report it to a council member (be sure to save what was said! We are a screenie guild, after all!) and do your best to ignore whoever it is harassing you. If you feel that you need to argue with someone over something, PLEASE do it by neomail; SLA does not take responsibility for emotional rampage! If you're seen harrassing other people constantly, you'll be deleted and won't be considered for being reinstated. ● This isn't necessarily a rule, but in the spirit of keeping everyone feeling welcome and wanted, try talking to everyone. Welcome new members and introduce yourself! We're all one big, happy screenie family, after all. ;D Note To Admin: Before deleting or suspending a member, please contact Aokajin with the reason why, and provide proof. You may take immediate action, since Aokajin may not be able to review what's been done right away, but the proof needs to be there so he can review the actions taken. |
![]() Every guild has one! It's often overlooked, underappreciated, and downright ignored, but there are useful applications for it. What is it? It's the Calendar! But due to the importance of a calendar, there needs to be a few ground rules to follow. If you don't know what you are and aren't allowed to post on the calendar, this is the section for you! What you CAN post: ● Birthdays! You should always be careful of what information you give out on the internet, so only tell your birthday at your own risk! ● Important holidays are fine to post! Sometimes we all need a reminder of when Chrismahanukwanzakah starts! ● If you're going to be inactive for a time, posting it on the calendar helps! Post if you're going to be gone for a week or more! (Neomailing the council and letting them know helps, too...) What you CAN'T post: (Because we're just mean like that) ● Don't post birthday wishes to another person! It clutters up the day on the calendar, and it's just soooo much nicer to send a neomail or wish a happy birthday on the guild boards! ● Don't post about a holiday if somebody else already has. ● Don't post if you're going to be inactive for just a day or two. We'll miss you, but it's okay to be mysterious and disappear for a few days without notice. ;) ● Don't post random, irrelevant days on the calendar. They clutter up the calendar, and all of the ACTUAL important days fall into the background! You wouldn't want to be the reason nobody noticed Plain Jane's birthday, would you? I'd think not. So keep it relevant. ● Don't try to figure out when Plain Jane's birthday is by randomly posting "Happy birthday, Jane!" on the calendar on different days. She doesn't exist. |
![]() There have been lots of questions regarding the polls and how one goes about getting administrative rights over controlling the polls. To avoid millions of neomails, this section was created.
Can I change the poll? |
![]() Qualifications: ● You must have been a member for more than a month. Yes, it counts if you leave the guild and come back, or if you get deleted for inactivity. ● You must have 100 or more posts. Posting 100 times in a row won't get you anywhere, so keep in mind that it just means you've been dedicated to being an active member. ● You must have posted on the guild boards within one week prior to the auction announcement date. Announcement dates are somewhat random, so try to be active, and you should be okay! An auction will be announced fourteen days ahead of time, and a screenshot will be taken of the admin version of the members list immediately, showing your join date, number of posts, and the date in which you last posted. Once an auction is announced, you cannot make up for inactivity. What then?: ● Make sure you qualify. nikushin (Ao) will know if you don't anyway, but be nice and make sure. ● Send a neomail to nikushin with the subject Auctioney Wauction! if you qualify. State that you understand the rules, and a neofriend request will be sent to you. (You're accepting neofriend requests, right?) This is to make sure that nobody may say they weren't informed about the rules or that they were too hard to understand. If you say you understand the rules, it means you are saying understand the consequences for breaking them. Are there any rules?: Why, yes, there are! Please read them carefully. ● Do not bid in increments higher than 500np at a time. The auction is meant to be cheap so that everyone can make a profit or have an item they like for cheap. ● Don't flame or bribe other members participating in the auction. Doing so will get you suspended from the auctions immediately. ● If you don't win an auction, don't complain. As far as the council is able to control, everyone is given a fair chance. If you fail to abide by the rules during an auction, you will be removed from nikushins friends list, and you will be unable to continue in the present auction. Multiple infractions will get you banned from future auctions. Overbidded items will NOT be cancelled, and will continue to be auctioned even though the rate is higher. And after that? After every auction is finished, all neofriends on the nikushin account will be erased, so if you want to participate in the next auction, pay close attention so you can neomail the nikushin account again. Good luck, and have fun! Current Auctions: We don't know yet!! Auction items: See the auction gallery to see what we're storing! For now there is no auction announced.. |
![]() Welcome to the lending section! If you're looking for information about avatar items that guild members are offering up for lending, you've come to the right place!
Low Collateral
No Collateral
Keep in mind that it is up to the discretion of the owner to lend or not! Please don't pester a lender if they don't feel like lending at the moment. Pet lending will not be listed here - you can do so at your own risk. |

| Things to consider! | Things to avoid... |
|---|---|
| Be certain your screenies are somewhat original. No idea is completely original, but you can at least try to get as close to originality as possible. It works wonders for good ratings. | Stealing others screenies is not only lazy, but selfish and not all that intelligent, either. Make up your own! It's not too hard. |
| Neoboards and neomails can provide some interesting screenie ammunition. | Taking too many neoboard and neomail screenies can be a double-edged sword. Some people get bored by them. What you think is funny probably may not be as funny to someone else. Keep your normal screenies separated from your neomail and neoboard screenies, on different pages or in different sections. |
| There are always weird things around the site to take screenies of, but often there aren't things to say about your screenies. Sometimes combining a few screenies to make a point can be useful. :) | It can be bad news to become too unorganized. If you go all willy-nilly with your screenies, someone is bound to get confused by them, and then they might be confused for the whole day, or even for TWO days...! You wouldn't want to ruin their weekend, would you? |
| Cropping neatly helps contain an unruly amount of screenies. If you want to stay organized, cropping is absolutely essential, and it saves your visitors a lot of eyestrain and personal grief. | Resizing is NOT cropping. Resize only if absolutely necessary, because a good screenie mimics what your visitors see in their own random events. It also helps if visitors can read what your screenie says. |
| Keeping a constant tone throughout your screenies helps tremendously. If you're going to be sarcastic, make it a theme. In my case, I make my mascot behave exactly as I would. :P If your screenies don't have a "personality", it makes them hard to follow. | typing liek this cna relly stear away viziturs. s4m3 f0r ch47sp34k. Use with sarcasm at your own risk. :P |
| If you're adding text or pictures to your screenies, make sure to keep it clean and save them at the highest quality. GIF images work for me because of how I work with them, but PNGs are high quality and take up less bandwidth. If you can't save PNGs, try GIF and JPG formats. :) | Scribbling a billion colors all over your screenies, or scribbling OVER your screenies at all, can result in some pretty nasty screenies. (There's only one person who can pull this off so far!) |
| Weed out old screenies that you don't think are quite up to your current standard. | At all costs, avoid double screenies. It's very nice that you found fifteen codestones and got seven dubloons at the Coltzan's Shrine, but just one screenie is enough for us to be happy for you. |
| Make sure to always have enough screenies available so that your visitors don't get to the end and say, "What the heck? Aren't there more?" It's okay to have just a few when you're first starting out, but you shouldn't expect to get great ratings at that point anyway. | Remember that music on your screenie pages drives some visitors away. What if someone doesn't like that song? They don't wanna listen to it while they peer through your screenies. And often times, your music will override music they're already listening to, causing them either to turn off their own or turn down the volume entirely just to tolerate your screenie page. |

| Question: | Answer: |
|---|---|
| I'm new, and I don't know anybody. I don't really feel like I fit in! What's going on?! | It's not easy to get to know other people... Doing so requires a little work. If you talk with people somewhat often, they're sure to open up to you. Even the friendliest members can be a little distracted sometimes, so be patient! |
| How does SLA make its money for 1-np auctions and other things? | SLA is a completely non-profit guild that makes every NP it has through donations and random events. However, no member is required to make donations! That would completely contradict our non-profit standing, after all. ;D |
| If I want to donate something, who do I donate to? | I stress that if you donate, you make sure you're certain before you do it! If you are certain, you may either send an item to Aokajin or ask that a cheapie trade be set up for you to donate NP. |
| So what's the best way to rise in the ranks? I should donate lots of stuff and compliment the council every chance I get, right? Right? | Whoa there! Complimenting us and donating stuff won't get you up in the ranks any faster at all. While we love being complimented (it pleases our egos) and donations are nice, they're NOT required to be promoted to higher ranks. If you meet a rank requirement, simply neomail a council member and ask to be promoted. Provide any information necessary to make their life easier! ^_^ |
| I want to make a suggestion for the guild. Where do I neomail it to? | Oh, how astute of you to ask! Any suggestions may be mailed to aokajin. If you name the neomail something like "Suggestion" in the subject, Aokajin will be sure to take special care to move the neomail where nothing terrible could happen to it! |
| Is that it for the questions? | For now. ;D There'll be more later, I'm sure. It all depends on what you, the people, ask of us! |
![]() Currently accepting applications! So you want to join Screenie Lovers Anonymous, huh? That's great! We're a people-oriented guild with a good sense of humor, and helpful and friendly members. The guild is privated now because so many people were coming in, but that shouldn't mean that you can't apply to get in, right? And so Aokajin created the SLA Super Duper Awesome Fantabulous Megalithic Neomail Application System! That's right... The SLASDAFMNAS. Just follow the directions below, and you should receive an invite shortly! (And if I were you, I'd read all the directions very carefully! You don't want to look like you weren't paying attention!) 1) Address your application to Latias. Make sure if you're neomailing her you are ready to fill out the application. Any neomails she receives requesting a guild should include an application, no matter who you know in the guild. 2) Make the subject of the application eggs on toast!! Make sure you spell it right, with both exclamation marks. 3) Fill out the following application, and put it in the body of your neomail... (Y'know, the place that you type stuff in...) Name or Nickname: Do you LOVE screenies?: Do you have screenies?: Do you give screenie awards?: Have you been given screenie awards?: Do you know anyone in the guild?: Reason for joining: (Your reason for joining should be more than something like, "I have friends there." Tell us about yourself a little so we know why you should be accepted! One or two short sentences will not get you an invite.) 4) On second thought, make the subject of the application say red fish blue! ;) Just making sure you're paying attention! 5) It helps if you are able to use correct grammar (use caps, puctuation), but Latias won't be a monster and reject your application if you have a few spelling mistakes. 6) Petpage applications are not necessary, but they sure are nice to look at. :) Make sure the neomail application I posted above is on the page somewhere, though. Neomail Latias the link to the petpage, and make sure the subject is correct. Pretty much just like applying by neomail, but with a petpage, instead. That way you can show off your immense HTML skills, if you have them. It might help get you into a council position, if any are open. (Be sure you can keep the petpage until your application can be looked at!) 7) Whoa, there, my friend! You better make that neomail subject "Ninjas Anonymous!" instead. The fishies are protesting. (If you're reading this, yes, I just changed the neomail subject again. I'm mean, I know...) 8) If you do not receive an invite within two weeks, know that you were not accepted. Latias is under no obligation to neomail you telling you this. If you are not accepted, do not send hate mail, because then you REALLY will not be accepted in the future. Just wait a little while before trying again. 9) If you are rejected twice, you are entitled to ask why. There are a few reasons listed below as to why you may have been rejected, so read the FAQ before you ask. :) Quick FAQ's: Q: I know ______ in the guild! So I can get an automatic invite, right? A: Nope. I mean, heck, we all know Adam, but that doesn't entitle us to free Hidden Tower items, right? If you're neomailing Latias, you should be applying with the designated application. End of story. Q: You never responded to my neomail! Why not? A: Latias usually only responds to people who are accepted. If you're not accepted, she may not let you know. There are just TOO MANY people that get rejected for various reasons. Please wait a while before applying again if you do not receive an invite within two weeks, please wait another two weeks before applying again. You should only apply once a month, in other words. Q: I filled out the application, I'm wonderful, and I'm totally literate! Why in Neopia would I ever be rejected? A: Any accounts which seem to be breaking the Neopets rules will not be accepted. This includes accounts which appear to be shared or are breaking any other rules in the Terms of Service. Additionally, if there is already a user in the guild with a very similar account name, you may not be accepted even if your accounts appear to be unrelated - this is to avoid false voting in the guild when the Best Screenier Poll is put up. Q: I never got an invite, but Latias said I was accepted... What's the deal? Are you all braindead, or something? A: Ahh! Make CERTAIN that you have opted to receive guild invites under your site preferences! If you've opted not to receive guild invites, you won't get them. If Latias is busy, she can't be expected to neomail every single last person to tell them to turn on their guild invites. Q: I want to apply, but it says at the top that you're not accepting applications. Can I still apply? A: When SLA is not accepting applications (which is rare), Latias saves all applications. So apply to your heart's content. First come, first serve. Just don't apply more often than every month. Q: Do the SLA members only talk about screenies? D: Because that could get boring after a little while. A: Ninety-nine percent of the time, we're completely off-topic, and that's fine. From anime, to movies, to whatever, we're always jitterbugging around from topic to topic. HOWEVER, feel free to talk about screenies whenever you want, and someone will be sure to join in. ;D Q: If I compliment Ao to death and tell him how much I like his work and that he's the most pwnful person on neopets, THEN will he invite me? A: Complimenting Ao will not get you in. Ao doesn't thrive on that stuff. ;P His Wocky might, but he doesn't. Not really, anyway. Q: If I compliment Latias to death and tell HER how awesome she is and how she's the most pwnful person on Neopets, THEN will I get in? A: Latias is less narcissistic than Ao, so you'll be wasting your breath. Q: Okay, so when Latias invites me, it's okay if I just sit around and not post on the boards ever, right? A: Being in the guild isn't much fun if you don't post on the board. Posting helps the council and other guild members get to know you better, and you could probably make some nice friends that way. Plus, it helps keep you from being deleted for inactivity. ;D Q: So if I get in your guild, I'm guaranteed to get in some screenies, right? A: In most cases, no. But referring to the last question, if we get to know you well enough on the boards because you're an active member, we'll all be much more inclined to neofriend you and such. People do occasionally screenie the guild boards, too. ^_^ Q: So I'm gonna neomail with a guild-related subject to get Latias attention quickly, but the TOPIC of my neomail is gonna be something totally different! Isn't that cool? A: If you do that, Latias will think it's pretty cool to block you. And remember, neomail Latias if you're applying to join. ;P Thank you for making it this far, and good luck applying! |
