About the Game

I am guessing that you are here to see what I have to say about this game, and are hoping to learn a few new tips about the game. Anyway, this game is about a pteri who is flying through the canyons of Tyrannia, and to survive must kill all the grarrls and Pteradactyls before they kill him. To do this, he uses various weapons, all obtained through differnet numbers and colours of the special powerups. I am going to cover all the basics of this game, as well as some extra tips that should help you along with it!!
The controls of this game are simple. Just use the arrow keys to move, and the space bar to shoot the pteradactyls and the grarrls.

Who Are Your Enemys, And How Do You Lose The Game?

You have to watch out for the grarrls, the pteradactyls, and the side of the game. Any of these things will kill you. If you get killed, you will lose a life. You start off with three lifes, though can gain extras at certain amounts of points throughout the game. Once all your lives are gone, you lose.

Hopefully this will help you a little. Note that the houses/ buidlings are harmless.

Silver Pterodactyl

Note that those Silver Pteradactyls are actually harmless, and will not take away any of your lives if they hit you. They also fly in from the sides.

What are the Powerups and Weapons?

WeaponHow to get itAbout the weapon
PterShot - Level 11 blue powerup This is the weapon that you start with. It is single shot, and not very strong.
PterShot - Level 22 Blue PowerupsThis weapon is hardly stronger than the one before it, but is better.
PterShot - Level 33 Blue PowerupsThis again is a little stronger, but is still a single shot weapon
PterShot - Level 44 Blue PowerupsThis is the final of this lot of weapons. It is strong, but only a single shot, and is the worst of the level 4 weapons.
PterPod - Level 1 1 Green PowerupThis is no doubt my least favourite weapon in the whole game. It is slow, weak, and the sideways shots do more harm than good
PterPod - Level 22 Green Powerups This is getting better, and is an okay spread weapon but I still find it too weak
PterPod - Level 3 3 Green PowerupsThis is just an upgraded form of the weapon above it, another spreaded one but is really nothing special
PterPod - Level 44 Green PowerupsThis in a way is weaker than the one before it. It is like a laser beam, but can only kill one enemy per push of the space bar. I prefer the spreaded shots before it because this is just uselss really.
PterBoom - Level 11 Purple PowerupI find that this is the best of the starting weapons, though some people seem to think that it is worst. Probably covers the best range, although it isn't much.
PterBoom - Level 22 Purple PowerupsPossibly the best of the early level spreaded weapons.
PterBoom - Level 33 Purple PowerupsAn upgraded version of the one that is before it
PterBoom - Level 44 Purple PowerupsSpreaded weapon that recharges before previous shots have disapeared. Very strong, though aim lets it down a little, making the fireball weapon better
FireBall - Level 11 Orange PowerupThis like most of the level 1 weapons is pretty uselss. Though the fact that it will upgrade to the top weapon eventually makes it the best.
FireBall - Level 22 Orange PowerupsThis is a spreaded weapon, with 2 shots. Nothing overly special about it though.
Fireball - Level 33 Orange PowerupsThis is an upgraded version of the one before it, with 2 shots instead of 3
Fireball - Level 44 Orange PowerupsThis is the best weapon, and most people would agree. It is a spreaded weapon that is powerful, and has a great aim. The best weapon for those higher levels.

Please note that the first powerup is also the original powerup that you will start with, and if you grab another blue powerup you are on the level 2 weapon.

A general overview on each lot of weapons

PterShot Weapons

Note that this weapon is the one that you start with. Personally, I do NOT recommend that you even consider getting these. Sure, they have an accurate aim but only allow you to kill one at a time, and you have to be directly underneath it meaning that if you did miss, chances are that it is going to get you. I can't get very far using these, so if you are aiming for a highscore, 1000NPs/ game, or a trophy then just stay clear of those blue powerups. It does not improve much when upgraded, has a poor range, and poor power.

PterPod

Don't get this. I would actually prefer using the starting weapon over this, and that is saying a lot. The trouble is that its first weapon is so useless, that it is very hard to upgrade it without getting killed. It's 2nd and 3rd levels are okay, but the 4th one is a bit of a let down really. I wouldn't bother trying to get it, because it can kill one at a time, is only a single shot, only kills what is DIRECTLY above you, and isn't near good enough for the higher levels. It is worse than the pterashot because of the fact that it takes so much work just to get to the second level of it. I also hate it because of the sideways shots, as you will see later on in this guide.

PterBoom

These are definitely better than the Ptershot and Pterpod due to the fact that it is a multiple shot and not a single, and has really big shots that have a high chance of hitting their target. The best strategy if you are using these seems to be to just keep shooting as fast as you can, because as you get into the higher levels the pterodactyls come down real fast at you. While it covers most of the screen, some of the lower forms of it seem to have a tendancy to miss what is directly infront. This can be pretty annoying when it comes to enemys that need more than one hit.

FireBall

I find that this is probably the best weapon in the game, and I am sure that most other people think the same, although I am sure that there will be some people that will disagree with this. The reason that I say that it is the best is because although the lower levels of it seem to be a lot weaker than the lower levels of the pteraboom, by the time that you get to level 4 of it then it is the strongest individual weapon in the game, and possibly the only one any good for the higher levels. If you are going for 1000NP's/ game then I would reccomend this and nothing else.

When do you go up a level?

I felt that this deserved a mention, because of the fact that each level gets harder and some people would want to know the points that it will get harder.

LevelPoints Required
2200 points
3300 Points
4500 Points
5800 Points
61200 Points
71700 Points

Additional Tips That I Have For This Game

  • Never keep changing your plan of what weapon you are going to get throughout the game. It very quickly gets to a point where the first level of the weapons isn't strong enough so you will have to have picked what you are upgrading and stick with it. The only exception would be if you had several blue powerups first before any other that you decided to grab to upgrade your original weapon. Though as soon as you get a different sort that you want then grab it because this first weapon will not help you for very long
  • Never rely on the pterashot weapon for the higher levels. It will just not work.
  • Remember that the walls will kill you, but the buildings will not. Don't try and dodge the buildings because it isn't necessary and can just end up with your pteri getting killed.
  • Don't stay near the bottom of the screen, because you are putting yourself at risk of getting caught out be the grarrl.
  • If you are going to shoot a grarrl, then make sure that you are far enough below it that you can escape easily when it falls back down again
  • In the higher levels, whatever you do do NOT lose your current powerup. If you do, then you are just going to lose
  • Again in the higher levels remember that your weapon is worth more than your lives. There is no use having the lives with a level 1 weapon. So if losing a life might save the weapon, then it is worth it.
  • - In the earlier levels, your priority is to get your weapon upgraded, not make heaps of points. Because you go up a level when you gain a certain number of points, and the higher levels are harder only shoot the pteradactyls that you know you would be able to grab the powerup for if they dropped one. This would be the number one reason that I do not recommend the pterpod. Its sideways shots don't help at all in this because they kill pteris that are passed you and it can be hard to swoop down and grab powerups.
  • - Resist the temptation to swing left and right across the screen in the lower levels. Although it might be a little tempting because of the fact that the lower levels are kind of boring, it will just cause you to lose lives and grab powerups that you don't want. Instead, try and move the pteri in a controlled way.

    Other Issues that Deserve Mentioning

  • I don't know if other people have a problem with this, but I seem to find that once they are coming at me really fast I just completely stunned by it and my eyes go all weird from all that movement and that puts me off. I havn't yet found a solution for that little problem. Therefore, because of that fact that you only need 2000 points for the full 1000NP's, this is when I just stop playing. Unless you are after a trophy, then I see little point of going further with it.
  • Also, because this is one of those horrible newer games, it has a tendancy to run a little bit slower than it should. What I recommend to overcome this is to just restart the game window every one or two games because this seems to speed it up a little. Having it run slow in this game is no benefit, and it likely to being frustrating and make it harder to get a high score. Another solution to this that I have found is to play the game in Mozilla Fire Fox and not Microsoft Internet Explorer. There is no doubt that it runs better in FF than IE.
