Welcome to Limited Edition Pets, a guide telling the average neopian how to earn that fabulous pet that they just can't seem to obtain. Yes, this guide was created for you! So if you have any questions, pricing information, or suggestions, please neomail it to me giggilogalmewmew.
So, you have decided to get a pet. You have taken the time to save up a few neopoints, buy some toys, and you have even picked out a fabulous petpet to be your new best friend's friend! You have also looked at the options; adoption or creating a pet. Though adoption poses a good way to do something great for Neopia, you have decided to create a pet! Starting something new can be fabulous, and as you walk down the halls of create a pet central, you see the pet for you! It looks like a rabbit, hops like a rabbit, and goes by the name of a Cybunny. While the ominous sign of '(limited edition!)' is posted right underneath the picture of the bunny you want, you click anyways, and are brought to one of the most horrible pages on the site! The page that tells you that the pet you have chosen is no longer available to be created. Suddenly, you feel frantic! Why can't you get the pet you want? What if you never get a Cybunny, your life will be ruined! FEAR NOT! I am here to help you! You'll have your new best friend by your side in no time at all. There are many ways to get the pet of your dreams, Limited Edition or not.
An overview of methods..
Morphing Potions

Definition: A Morphing Potion is a magic item that can change any pet into a pet of another species and/or color. These potions are made by Kauvara herself and have a variety of species and colors to choose from.
Known As: Morphing Potions, MP
Buyable At: The Magic Shop in Neopia Central, Trading Post, Auction House, Shop Wizard (rare)
Like stated a Morphing Potion changes your pet into another species or color. When you have attained a Morphing Potion go to your inventory and click on it, in the new popup box that has formed click into the drop down menu that shows numerous choices for you to use this item. Choose the pet you want to give the potion to and hit enter. Your pet will then 'drink' the potion and will come out the species and color of the Morphing Potion given to it.
Extra: You must already have a pet to give the potion to. If you don't previously own a pet, you can create one of any regular species. Choose the name and proper gender you want your LE pet to be! And don't forget, you can't use say... a Cybunny Morphing Potion on a Cybunny. It just won't work! If you want to change the colour of an existing limited edition pet, you'll have to paint it.
Transmogrification Potions
Definition: A Transmogrification Potion is a magic item that can change any pet into a pet of another species. Upon transforming your pet will also change color to
Mutant. These potions are made by Doctor Sloth and have a variety of species but only one color.
Known As: Transmogrification Potions, Trans Potions
Buyable At: Trading Post, Auction House, Shop Wizard (Rare), This potion can also be found by random event. Maybe Doctor Sloth will be lucky for you!
Like stated a Transmogrification Potion changes your pet into another species as well as turning it mutant. When you have obtained a Transmogrification Potion go to your inventory and click on it, in the new popup box that has formed click into the drop down menu that shows numerous choices for you to use this item. Choose the pet you want to give the potion to and hit enter. Your pet will then 'drink' the potion and will come out the species chosen. Please Note: Like Morphing Potions you must already have a pet to give the potion to. The only difference between Transmogrification Potions and their better half is that they only have ONE color; mutant. If you do not want a mutant pet, all you have to do is get a basic paint brush (or whatever color you want) and paint your pet at the rainbow pool. Remember, mutant is only a color.
Magical Plushies

Definition: Eep! Did that plushie just stare at you? Most likely! Magical Plushies are a magical plushie infused with the power of transforming action. While the Magical Plushie is just a toy, playing with it could seriously alter your pet! Not all plushies are this powerful, so read the warning label before buying!
Known As: Magical Plushies, That scary thing that won't stop staring.
Buyable At: Plushie Palace in Neopia Central, Trading Post, Auction House, Shop Wizard (rare)
After obtaining your creepy magical toy, go to your inventory and click on it. Once the popup box comes up choose the pet you want to be limited edition and play with it! A good romp in the park with this plushie will leave your friend feeling refreshed and slightly different. By playing with a Magical Plushie your pet becomes the color and species of the plushie played with.
Please Note: Like the potions a Magical Plushie must have a pet already created to use it.
The Lab Ray

Definition: The Lab Ray is a powerful zapping ray that can change your pet's stats, gender, color, and species. One zap a day is wild fun with that cooky lab ray tech! Enjoy watching your pet change while hoping for a limited edition species!
Known As: Lab Ray, Secret Lab
Buyable at: Trading Post, Auction House, Found by random events, Shop Wizard (piece by piece)
In order to use the secret lab you need all nine pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map. Once you have all the pieces go to the Games Room and go into the Puzzles section. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the Treasure Maps game. Once inside there you will see several map names that you can click on, choose the one for the secret lab and go there.
You need all the map pieces in your inventory at this time. You will be shown a page with nine squares each filled with one of your map pieces showing a completed map in total. Click on the button to go the secret lab and gain permanent access to the Lab Ray, you will also gain back about 10k! From now on you can go to lab each day and zap one pet from your party. While the Lab Ray isn't totally dependable, there is a good chance that you will get a limited edition pet! The species though, is totally up to fate.
Mysterious Swirly Potion
Definition: The Mysterious Swirly Potion is an item that when used on your neopet will change it to a random Limited Edition species. If the color is available in that species, it will keep the color your pet already has.
Known As: Mysterious Swirly Potion
Buyable At: Trading Post, Auction House, Also can be fished up at the Underwater Fishing game once you reach a fishing level of 80+.
Price Range: 350k-500k
Once you have obtained a Mysterious Swirly Potion, you can then go to your inventory and click on it. Choose the pet you want to transform and get the pet to 'drink' it. It will then change to a random Limited Edition species. If the color your pet already was is available in that species, it will stay the same color. If not, it will turn to a basic color.
Creating
Yes, you heard right! You can create Limited Edition pets! While most things Limited Edition are only released once, sometimes the fine people running Neopets will release a small group of the selected species on their pet days. (Mind you, Draiks and Krawks are never released.) The only thing you really need to do is know how to successfully get one of these special pets!
When they are released:
The first thing you need to know in order to create a Limited Edition pet is when their special pet days are! While you can look it up easily on the neo calendar, I am providing a list of them right here. (I left out the Krawk and Draik days, since they are never released.)
Chomby Day: March 22nd
Cybunny Day: April 27th
Hissi Day: May 4th
Jetsam Day: October 16th
Kiko Day: July 17th
Koi Day: May 25th
Lutari Day: April 19th
Poogle Day: September 19th
Tonu Day: February 21st
Once you know the day your wanted pet is going to be released, you can move onto the next step and pick your name! Deciding on a pet name beforehand is very important. You don't want to be rushing around at the last minute and have to use a name that doesn't suit your pet's personality, do you?
Creating Your Pet
Once you have your pet name, you need to make sure that you have a space cleared for your new pet. Once the space is cleared, and you know that it is your Limited Edition's pet day (check the News page for when it is updated), then you need to open up three browsers (internet browsers, I mean). Set your first browser to the statistics page, it can be found }here{. If you notice, any limited edition pets will have a number out of a number.
Example: Cybunny 232 (232)
This means that 232 cybunnies have been created out of the 232 released. (There will always be more Limited Edition pets than the amount released. Why? Many people morph their pets into a limited pet, or the lab ray can change an existing pet into a limited species.) What you are looking for is a larger released number then an existing pet number.
Example: Cybunny 232 (400)
This lets you know that TNT (The Neopets Team) has released some more of the selected species, and if you are lucky, you can create one. Leaving the statistics page open lets you refresh it occasionally, and it will tell you if more pets have been released or not.
The second browser is left open for the Create a Pet page, which is located }here{. Things have changed since the new layout April 2007. You will no longer see the picture of a limited edition pet unless it is available for creation. Take a good look at the bottom row of pets. Note how many there is. Is there two? One? Remember that. When the limited edition pet in question 'restocks', that will have an extra pet there. IT MAY NOT BE THE LE PET. You'll have to make quick work of scanning the area for the le pet's picture. Click on it, and complete the creation process!
I would suggest that you learn the control tabs to do this. Look on your keyboard for the keys 'ctrl', 'c' & 'v'. Write your name out (make sure it is not already used!) and select it. Then, hit 'ctrl' & 'c' at the same time, or hit 'Edit' and then 'Copy' on the toolbar in your browser. Using 'ctrl' & 'c' copies the name, while using 'ctrl' & 'v' pastes it.
Leaving the Create a Pet page open gives you the ability to refresh, and instantly be able to paste your pet's name so you can create it. It is a faster more efficient way than having to rush and mess around. Mind you, I would suggest being swift in doing this.
The third page to have opened in your third browser is optional; this is for the Help Chat or for any other pages on neopets so you don't have to waste your time. I like having it on the HC, because when the pets are released, there is at least one person that is sure to make a board telling you that they have been released. Just another system to use apart from the statistics page.
Adoption
Alright, so you've given up on your hopes of creating your new Limited Edition best friend. You've pulled out your pockets and watched the moths fly, then failed at every game or restock tried. Every name you've tried to create has gone bust, and just when it seems like you will never get that Cybunny to hip, hop, skip your way, you come up with another idea! Adoption! Hurriedly you head to The Pound in hopes of finding your limited edition pet just waiting for you! But wait. All you see are gelerts, lupes, a zafara and an acara. These aren't limited edition! Hoping to find one you spend some timing searching and searching, but after you can't find a pet, you notice the neoboards. What a good idea! Maybe some one is willing to pound there pet and all you have to do is ask- Hold up! Were you really going to go beg for a pet? Ack! Don't ruin your neocareer now! No matter how you put it, TNT says that begging is any form of asking for a pet. Even suggesting that you would be willing to adopt some ones limited edition pet is certainly out of the question.
So now you have to look at your other options; adoption agencies, and pounding boards. I would just like to stop here to state that no account under FOUR MONTHS OF AGE can adopt a Limited Edition Pet. So TNT says, so shall it be. Yes, TNT has decreed that no accounts under the age of four months may adopt a Limited Edition pet. This is the same for pets of certain level and color, but you aren't looking for a guide on how to attain a Ghost Lupe are you? Nope! So off we go back to the Limited Edition world! If your account isn't four months of age yet, I would suggest going back to the games room and seeing just what you can do with yourself. You have four months to kill, maybe you'll get good at something!
If your account is already aged, then head straight to the Help Chat and lurk for a while. Chances are you will see spam boards, scam boards, help boards, restock boards, and pounding boards. Yes, TNT has also decreed that the HC is the perfect place for people to pound their pets. Look carefully at the titles, many boards will tell you right away what pet they are pounding. However, if they don't, step inside and take a look. Chances are the pet that owner is pounding isn't the pet for you, but if it is, take heed to their very first post. The post that starts the board is one of the most important posts you can ever read. This can contain pet information, rules, and ways of applying. Alright, let's stop again. What is applying? Applying for a pet can be anything from writing a short neomail explaining why you'd be a good owner, to a full petpage with pictures, stories, and poems telling why you'd make the most fabulous owner in the world! Remember to always do what the owner requests. Chances are there is a reason for their request! Keeping in mind that you may not get the pet follow their rules, ask any questions you need to ask, and try your hand at applying for a pet.
Another kind of board to look out for is Adoption Agencies. These boards could range from requesting for people to put their pet in an adoption agency, to just advertising it. No matter what the board, check out the agency, and see what they have to offer for pets. Chances are they could have the pet you are looking for. There are two types of adoption agencies that you can look out for; petpage based ones, and ones that are on paid for professional sites. If some of the user based petpage agencies don't hold what you are looking for, try searching on google for 'neopet adoption agencies'. A few ones to look out for are NeoPound/Neooddones, TNO, and DLAA. Also, check out some of the banners below for adoption agencies, and a guide on how to adopt neopets!

Want some tips for applying for a pet? Here are some of my own below. You also may want to check out a guide that shows how to create a good pet application.
-Always listen to the owner's rules. Disregarding them is insulting and will not get you any respect.
-Try and make sure everything is spelled the right way and that you've used proper punctuation and capitols.
-Names and genders are important to owners! Using nicknames can be okay, but always remember the actual name and whether the pet you are going for is a girl or a boy. Calling a pet 'it' can be an automatic disqualification for some people.
-If you are making a petpage application that requires a nice layout, make one yourself. This goes for art, writing, and makeables. Any application is a good time to show off what talents you have!
-Try to avoid putting in referrals from friends. While I'm sure you are a perfectly honest neopian, referrals are easy to fake.

How To Use Legend
(rl?) This means I've dug through the image database to find the image of a previously unknown item. I haven't found any info on it, and I'm not even sure it's been released! If you have proof of it being released, neomail me!
Item Lists LE Pets now lists plushies, eggs, and morphing potions in all the colours currently available in that potion. Not all species have potions and plushies in every colour they are available! Check the Rainbow Pool in Neopia Central for all the colours available for the species you are interested in. Note: Many times morphing potions in fancy colours are more expensive than the pb and basic potion combined, and are mainly bought by collectors or as a last resort. However, in the cases of expensive colours like pirate and plushie, it may be more affordable to buy say... a Pirate Poogle MP than a pb and mp separately! Compare before you buy!

Draik Eggs
While you can't create a Draik through the 'Create a Pet' page, there is one way to actually create them. This is through the use of a Draik Egg. Draik Egg's are buyable through the Trading Post, Auction House, and rarely a really good restock at Merifoods in Meridell. Once you have your Draik egg, make sure you have a space free for another pet, and take your Draik Egg to the Draik Nest. This is located }here{. The egg then hatches and you must name the Draik with an untaken name. The only real difference in the Create a Pet process is that the color is defined by the egg used and gender is random.

The elusive potato potion! This potion restocks as a r99 at the Meridell Potion shop in Meridell, and when used on a pet can turn them into a Brown Kiko! However, the means to do this are currently unknown to me! Creating
Like the Draik there is one special way to create a Krawk. This is done by gathering the Krawk in it's natural form; a petpet. The petpet form of a Krawk is the exact name of the full sized pet form (Krawk) and when bought should be attached to your active neopet. Please make sure you have empty space on your account for a new neopet. Once you have done this you must name your Krawk with an untaken pet name. I suggest searching names you like by using the search bar. Once you have properly named your Krawk, take it to the Fungus Cave and let it eat some fungus. The cave can be found }here{. After that you will be taken through the Create a Pet process. Please Note: You can't create a Krawk neopet by gaining a Krawk petpet from the petpet lab.
Super Tip! Have your eye on a beautiful Faerie Krawk? Or another expensive color? Do yourself a favor and buy the petpet paint brush in the color you want your neopet krawk to be! Paint your Krawk while still in the petpet form and enjoy a cheaper way to get that expensive colored neopet. The Krawk petpet will turn into whatever color neopet the petpet was painted.

Krawk
Lutari

There are currently no known morphing potions, magical plushies, or ways of transmogrification. I'm afraid that at this moment the Lutari can only be created or labbed. Why not adopted? Well, as of creation TNT set it so that Lutari's 'run away' once they enter the pound. Thus making the Lutari Neopia's first and hopefully only un-adoptable pet. Your only luck is to hope that they are released on Lutari day, or spend some serious neopoints for that shiny new lab ray you always wanted!

FAQ
Have a question on something in the guide? All questions I'm asked are answered here. If there isn't a question here that needs to be answered, please feel free to neomail me.
If I use a Transmogrification potion on a pet, what happens if I paint it a different color? Will it stay Mutant?
Nope! Mutant is only a color, so if you paint your say, Mutant Hissi with a Red Paint Brush, you will still have a hissi but it will now be red!
Can you get a Draik/Krawk from the lab ray?
I have heard of Draiks being gained by the ray, but not Krawks. Whether they still can or not, that has yet to be seen.
Where can you buy the plushies and potions listed on here?
You can find them on the trading post or in the auction house.
How do you gather your pricing?
I visit the trading post! Prices always fluctuate, so I'm pricing once a month now. Normally if it's three or more of the same item with the same area of price, I use that to get a middle price or a price to a price that should be about right. If this works for a Red Hissi Morphing Potion, and I come across say a blue one with only one price, if it matches up, I'll use that. If I can't find a price, no price goes in! ^^ As for differences in pricing, I'll never price by the majority highest. What I mean is... if one item is being sold for 800k, but three other people are selling theirs for 2 million each, 800k is what goes up. This is because false inflation is common, and you shouldn't have to pay 2 million when others have sold for 800k. ^^ These prices are general current standards that you can base your savings goal or selling price around.
What exactly does 'k' mean?
Ah, 'k' refers to one thousand. Example: 1k=1000nps. If I have a price stated such as 900 - 1.2 million it means 900k (or 900,000) to 1.2 million nps (or 1,200,000).
Do you have a potion or a pet? Can I have it?
If I did have a potion I would either use it for myself, or sell it for a profit.
Are Tonus really Limited Edition pets?
Yes, they are. I've seen this question floating around the boards, and it's kind of strange. :/ The Tonu is, and always has been, a Limited Edition pet. While the Tonu is a regularly released pet (generally rumored to be released when the omelette has been eaten) it is not /always/ able to be created. Just like all other LE pets, you can only create it if you catch it being released. Also, Tonus are rarely released in numbers over 400. Another factor that proves Tonus are LE pets, is that no account under four months can adopt them. This is with or without being a basic color. So, yep! Tonus are still Limited Edition! They just come out more than others!
Are magical plushies one use only? (~toffeedatepudding)
Magical plushies are one use only items just like morphing potions and trans potions. When you play with your pet, your pet will turn the species and colour of that plushie. HOWEVER - you WILL receive a non-magical plushie in the end! Yes, it's a toy and a transforming item too! Example: You use a Magical Yellow Cybunny Plushie on your lupe. Your lupe would turn into a yellow cybunny, and a Yellow Cybunny Plushie would be left in your inventory! Depending on the colour/rarity, you could receive a nice bit of pocket change back if you sell the regular plushie. ^^ Or, just have a cute toy to add to your collection!
Do you have to be 4 months to CREATE a LE or just to adopt it? -esleyoga
You can create limited editon pets at any account age! The four month rule only applies to adoption.
