A Magical Mess

About Us

I take it that you are visiting this page because you want to know more information about our lovely little guild?

Well, A Magical Mess is a public, semi-literate, semi-traditional Harry Potter guild; we have been in existence since March 17, 2009. Ashley created the guild with a vision to have a Harry Potter fan guild that could also just be a relaxing and fun, tight-knit community. She believes she has succeeded in that..

Our name comes from a mixture of how Ashley hoped the run the guild originally, with every member having something to do in the guild as far as helping to run it (though now we've become more effective by having things run from a mostly centralized position), as well as a play on/poking fun of "Professor" Gilderoy Lockhart's autobiography, Magical Me. Ashley thought it was pretty clever herself. If you see anything that might need more explanation to it, please let Ashley, (Asmacl)know, and she sees that it does need fixing, it will be worked on. If you ever have any questions about us, don't hesitate to ask, just neomail asmacl with your questions or suggestions.

Rules

Those necessary annoyances

For our rules, they are very simple.

  1. First and foremost, abide by the TNT rules. We don't want you getting in trouble now, do we?
  2. Secondly, please don't worry about double posting. We have people looking out for that, and if you do double post, it will be taken care of as soon as it is noticed.
  3. Please don't forget that even though we are not a strictly literate guild, we are not a guild where U cn tok lyk dis wenever U want 2. Please do not talk like that. At least one full sentence per post if you can. We are officially semi-literate, which means correct spelling and sentence structure is preferred, but we won't scream at you for missing capitalizations or punctuation (too often). Oh, and SMILEYS are more than welcome.
  4. Please proofread your posts before you make them however. That will make it a lot easier to read your posts.
  5. If you find out something that will cause you to be inactive for a set amount of time, please mark it on the calendar, so you won't be included in our member sweeps (this is the only way I will know not to send a warning neomail).
  6. If you join, then for whatever reason either leave or get swept, you can join again later if you can still meet the activeness needed; we will not prevent you from joining our family. The Potter family welcomes you at any time provided that you make an effort to be a part of the family.
  7. For the roleplaying, if you choose to participate: if you go to post on the rp forum, make sure to stop by the guild message board. If you can take time to post on the rp forum, you can take time to say hey on the guild itself...
  8. Lastly, but certainly not least: HAVE FUN !! If there is an aspect of the guild you want to help out with, such as running an activity page, or teaching a class, or creating layouts for us or running shops or anything else, please don't hesitate to let Ashley know.

Ranks and Time Zones

First find your house, then find your name. This will be updated each month, as necessary. If you are a New Student, or should be Remembrall, but don't have the post count needed, you won't be listed yet. Please alert Ashley as to what your time zone is in comparison to NST (Neopets Standard Time), so we can know what times of day we may be able to catch one another online and make the conversations flow that much better. Ashley is 3 hours ahead of NST.

You will not be moved up an in-House rank if you don't meet all aspects necessary for promotion. Ex: if you are already Sorted but don't have enough posts yet, you will remain an in-House rank of New Student.

7 Questions
Very simple activity: The following are 7 questions, each having to do with one of the Harry Potter books, the numbered question does not necessarily correlate to the book the answer would be found in. Each question is worth 1 point; all 7 questions answered correctly gets an additional 7 points. So, 14 points in total could be earned. With that set, let's get cracking:
  1. What sort of snake did Harry accidentally set free?
  2. Who was the muggleborn student killed the first time the Chamber of Secrets was opened?
  3. When did Harry receive the Marauder's Map from the Weasley twins?
  4. What happened to Barty Crouch, Sr.?
  5. Name as many members of the original Order as you can.
  6. What was the purpose of the hourglass in Professor Slughorn's office?
  7. Where was Hermione when her perfume was smelled by the Snatchers?

Kwikspell

serpensortia
Fat Lady's Song!
The Fat Lady is once again trying to break a glass using only her voice. Problem is, she can't remember the artist who originally sang it, nor can she remember the name of the song itself!
Can you help her out? Just remind her of the song name and artist. She will reward you with 5 Housepoints for your trouble. The sooner you answer her, the sooner she'll stop trying to sing!
...See the thing about you that caught my eye/ is the same thing that makes me change my mind/ kinda hard to explain, but girl, I'll try/ you need to sit down, this may take a while...

Rita's Quik Quotes Quill
Name the person who said this line, and receive 2 HP. Name the book the line is from, and receive 2 HP. 4 Housepoints total are possible here.
Longbottom, at the end of this lesson we will feed a few drops of this potion to your toad and see that happens. Perhaps that will encourage you to do it properly.

McGonagall's Weekly Themes
Each week, a different theme will be posted... one that McGonagall has decided some banners need to be transfigured to change to. The theme will be posted here, and everyone will have throughout that week to create and submit a banner for the guild (or their House) that matches or somehow goes along with that theme.
Anywhere from 5 points to 20 points will be administered, depending on quality, creativity, and how well the banner fits the theme chosen by McGonagall.
