This guide should be viewable in all browsers, but it looks best

What is an avatar?
An avatar is an icon which sort of represents you in the neoboards. There are many different avatars, so you've got plenty to choose from :D


How do I get avatars?
Ok, this is a tough one! There are more than 300 things you can do to get avatars, and all of them are listed here. This is exactly what this guide is for, so have a look around.


How do I change my avatar?
To change your avatar, go here, and choose an avatar from the drop-down menu. From there all you have to do is scroll down, and click 'submit'.


How many avatars are there?
There are currently 344 avatars existing, but not all of them can be obtained today.


What avatar should I use?
Ermm I have no idea. Most people use avatars they think look pretty or avatars they've been working the most on to get.


What is collateral?
Collateral is often used when lending/borrowing items that get you avatars! I find this quite complicated to explain, but here is a good guide that explains everything.


How do you get Bonju?
Haha, you're a funny one :P I have no idea, but why don't you try to find out? If you go the Avatar Chat you might find someone who wants to figure it out as well.

How long did it take to make this guide?
Too long to remember..


Why isn't the default avatar listed?
None of the default avatars are listed; and you don't really need to know how to get them, do you?


Can I use your layout/coding?
No absolutely not! I spent ages learning CSS and HTML as well as putting it all together. Even if you ask very nicely I wont let you. There are plenty of good coding guides out there and in the longer run it pays off to learn HTML/CSS properly.


What happened to the previous guide?
It's quite a while since I decided I wanted to improve the layout of the guide, but it wasn't until just recently I pulled myself together and did it. The old guide will never come back; mostly because I managed to delete the entire coding (by a mistake).


Why isn't Super Attack Pea! listed as an item avatar?
I get this question quite frequently, and the answer is quite simple. You need both a pet and an item to be able to obtain the avatar, and for the sake of good organisation I early decided that placing one avatar in more than one category would be confusing. Item avatars are avatars you only need items to get in this guide. And this does not goes for Super Attack Pea!, does it? This also goes for BGC *blinks*.

The header, background, buttons and navigation images are made by Sigrid, for me. The graphics were created in Photoshop CS2 and all of them are neopets.com images. The header took about 2 hours to do. So no sticky paws.

Stay away from my coding! It's a mess anyway and you do not want to deal with it. Your guide to avatars is coded and created by waterfall_hearts, and if you steal anything that's mine I'll report you and punch a mop in your face.. :D.

Clickable avatars are avatars you can simply get from only being at a certain page in neopia, and these are the easiest avatars to get. Whether you just started playing neopets or are an experienced player, this part could help you gain a few extra avatars. There are some avatars, that are a tad more "special". I will explain below ^_^


Korbat - Royal
You can only get one of these two avatars. If you want the pink one, you have
to keep your gender at 'male' and visit a Royal Male Korbat. If you want the red
one, your gender has to be 'female' and visit a Royal Female Korbat.
The Darkest Faerie
This avatar is only available from 10pm to 5am NST.

Pteri - Darigan
This avatar is somewhat special, because you have to visit a Darigan Pteri when it is exactly 644 days old.
The next Darigan Pteri will be 644 days at: 11/04-2009.
Uni - Nightsteed
You can get this avatar from 8pm to 6am NST.

Feed your pet between 3 and 4 NST (both AM and PM). Butterfish or Bagguss are cheap food items.

Have a starry item in your inventory (such
as a Starry Sea Fern) and go here.
Mmm, custard!
Feed your pet anything with 'custard' in the name
(such as a Green Tea Custard).

Broken
Go to Donny's Toy Repair Shop and have any
broken toy fixed (such as a Broken Fake Uni Hat).

Donate any item with 'plushie' in the name (such as

Moehog - Halloween
Go here while having an item with 'sloth' in the
name (such as a Sloth Faerie Plushie).

Go here with 1 np on hand, and any item with the word 'scarab' in the name (such as a Burnt Scarab Cookie).
Scorchio - Scordrax
Go here while having a basic coloured Scorchio plushie in
your inventory (such as a Purple Scorchio Plushie).

Equip your pet with any Haunted Weaponry
item (such as a Demonic Bow).

While carrying a Maractite Weaponry battle
item (such as a Maractite Cord) go here.
Achyfi!
Feed your pet any item with 'drink' or 'juice' in the
name (such as a Can of Prune Juice).
Do Not Eat!!

I'm Smelly
View your item while having 10 items with the
word 'dung' in their names. Some cheap
dung items: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
Evil Fuzzle - BOO!
Randomly awarded when your pet plays with a
Blue Evil Fuzzle, and the Fuzzle shouts 'Boo!'.
Mad About Orange
View your inventory while having 8 items with
the word 'orange' in their names. Some cheap
orange items: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.
Magical Kauvara
Use any Morphing Potion on your pet
(such as a Green Uni Morphing Potion).

Not that expensive item avatars

The cost for these avatars range from approximately 20 000 neopoints to approximately 100 000 neopoints.

View your inventory while carrying the ten
normal Codestones in your inventory: Bri, Orn, Vo, Har,
Zei, Main, Eo, Mau, Tai-Kai & Lu
Dark Nova
Equip your pet with any battle item with the words
dark nova' in its name, such as a Scroll of Dark Nova.
Robo
Place any Robo Pet in your neohome
(such as a Robo Tuskaninny).
Let It Snow!
While carrying an Icy Snowflake, visit the
Terror Mountains when it is snowing.

The cost of these avatars varies from approximately 100 000 neopoints to approximately 11 000 000 neopoints.

View your Safety Deposit Box, while having 1 000 or more different items in it.

(such as a Balthazar Pinata).
Queen Fyora
Let your pet play with a Faerie Queen Doll.
Alien Aisha
Use a Nerkmid, such as a Basic Golden Nerkmid

Feed a Snorkle Snout to your pet.
Chokato
View your inventory, while carrying a Chokato (TCG). Refreshing might be necessary.

I Taunt The Pant Devil
View your inventory while having items with a total estimated value higher than 5 million neopoints, such as a Clawed Shield, an Air Faerie Crown or 31 Blibbles.

Extremely expensive item avatars
