The Midnight Bloomer
I was not forced, bribed, convinced, or held over a boiling pot of lava in order to make this application. I created this application as a way to better express my plans for Horu. c:
❀ Welcome
to my application for Horu!
Thank you so, so much for being here today! ^^ I hope that you enjoy your time here and that I don't utterly confuse you. ;D
The goal of this application is to show you the character that I have in mind for Horu, give you an idea of what I would do with her, and to tell you a little bit about myself and my current pets. Thank you so much for your time! c:
✿ The first Midnight-Bloomer
in centuries.
Quite early in the morning of January 28th, not too long ago, a local patrolman made his rounds along the perimeter of his village, watching for any dangers or possible threats to his fellow faeries, fast asleep in their homes. It had been a very eventless night.
The patrolman continued his patrol, regardless of the clear lack of danger. However, despite his best efforts to focus on his job, he could not help but glance around him and take in the beauty of the land. Everything was perfect: the branches of distant trees swayed slightly, the sky was lit up by millions of twinkling stars, and rays of light coming from the luminous full moon seemed to be falling on a lone, long-stemmed plant in the middle of nowhere.
Wait, what? The patrolman had to rub his sleep-deprived eyes to be certain that they weren't playing tricks on him. But sure enough, they weren't. Confused, the patrolman decided it best to abandon his post and investigate.
As he came close to the plant, he examined it closely. Although it was most certainly a flower, it was not one that he had ever come across during his studies. Just as he moved closer to the plant to further inspect, it moved. Startled, the man stepped back, stumbling on a pebble and falling hard on his backside.
From this new angle, the faerie could see a large white bud atop the plant that he had previously looked over. This bud appeared to be opening slowly. In spite of witnessing many bloomings in the past, the patrolman felt something different, and rather special, about this one and decided to sit and watch, awaiting what might occur.
Gradually, over the next two hours, the bud began to bloom. Then, as all movement stopped and the flower was fully open, the man stood up, walked to the stem, and began to climb up it.
Once he reached the petals, he pushed them aside and peered curiously at what lay asleep in the middle of the flower. A small baby faerie, with pure white wings protruding from her back, was curled up and dreaming happily, unaware of the new world around her.
The patrolman wasn't sure exactly what it was that seemed strange to him about this infant. There was just something...different about her. He glanced down at his feet and made sure that he was standing on secure enough footholds. Assured that they were, the faerie reached out and gingerly lifted the baby. Then, shifting her to one arm, the patrolman climbed slowly down the flower stem and headed back to his village.
❀ A Quick History
of Flower Faeries.
Hundreds of years ago, a plant grew in the yard of a young widowed woman, surrounded by the most beautiful of flowers. The plant was very plain. As a matter of fact, it had a long green stem with two large leaves on it. Atop of this stem was what seemed to be a bud. And that was about it. But despite all efforts, this bud never bloomed. It just remained there, year after year, as if frozen in time.
Even though the plant seemed to be a hopeless cause, it was very well cared for by the woman. She made sure that it received the perfect amount of sunlight and water, and was always in wonderful condition. Though there did not appear to be anything special about the plant, it was loved and cared for by the woman all the same.
One day, the woman fell very ill and passed away. Her funeral came and went, and her house was sold to a young family. This family had no time to spend outside. Without the care that it needed, the once beautiful garden of the widow wilted and turned into nothing more than a bunch of dead flowers. All that remained in the garden was the very plain plant.
One night the bud on the plant bloomed into a beautiful blue flower. Years of love and affection proved to be successful and the loveliest of flowers was produced. And from this flower, the first Flower Faerie was born.
Bloomings became more of a common event as time passed. Whenever a flower blooms for the very first time, a Flower Faerie is born. The flower from which a Flower Faerie blooms is frequently referred to as the faerie's Mother Flower. These "Mother Flowers" are extremely important. A faerie lives as long as their Mother Flower, or one if its descendants, lives. From the time of their blooming, faeries are responsible for caring for their own Mother Flower. Occasionally a single stem from one plant may produce multiple flowers. In cases such as these, all Flower Faeries that result from bloomings are considered to be siblings.
✿ The Culture and Life
of the Flower Faeries: Questions and History.
What exactly is a faerie? A faerie is a tiny being that looks very similar to a human. They are called by different names depending on where you are in the world: faerie, fairy, fay, fey, the Little Folk, the Good People. Do not confuse elves, pixies, brownies, or hobgoblins with faeries though. They may not be very forgiving if you do. A Flower Faerie is born with the first bloom of a new flower. You shall learn more of that later.
What does a Flower Faerie look like? Average adult Flower Faeries range from eight to ten centimeters tall, and weight about one gram. They have pointed ears and cherubic faces.
They generally appear to look like young children, although they can appear to be in their teenage years at oldest. Every Flower Faerie has wings very similar to those of butterflies. The colors and patterns of the wings vary from faerie to faerie, but there is no doubt that they are very delicate and very beautiful. They use their wings as their main means of travel, and fly with slow, but strong flapping. Like butterflies, faeries seek shelter when it rains, as flying in such weather conditions can be potentially fatal and near impossible.
When it comes to the clothing of Flower Faeries, it very much depends on the environment in which they live. They usually adorn themselves with materials commonly found in nature. Male Flower Faeries wear tunics, pants, or jumpers, and females wear dresses. While most faeries do prefer to go barefoot, some choose to wear shoes. Most clothing items are made from moss, gossamer, leaves, petals, cotton, and other such materials.
Where do Flower Faeries live? They tend to live in fields of flowers, forests, meadows, and anywhere that a flower can sustain life.
Do Flower Faeries only have direct contact with other faeries or do they associate with other animals/creatures? Although they do spend most of their lives around each other, many Flower Faeries choose to keep a small animal or an insect around. Animals, generally small rabbits, mice, and squirrels help the faeries carry large loads and pull heavy things. They also prove to be nice to rest on when a tired faerie has flown too much. As for insects, they make nice companions. The most favored insects among Flower Faeries are lady bugs and bumblebees.
Do Flower Faeries have any enemies? They most certainly have enemies. Beside things such as lawnmowers and weed killer, Flower Faeries do their very best to avoid birds of prey, bats, snakes, raccoons, cats, and any other thing that can be potentially harmful to them.

Horu is the first-known Flower Faerie born from a Night-blooming Cereus in hundreds of years. She was discovered by a watchman after her blooming, and was later brought to the Rose village that he came from. She lived there for many years, learning the traditions, customs, and history of Flower Faeries, Rose Faeries in particular.
Horu always knew that she was different from the other Rose Faeries. The petals of roses never felt quite right on her skin, and she could not keep a rose alive for more than a week. Although the villagers from the Rose village had always told Horu about her past and how she had come to live with them, she was still curious about who she really was and wanted to know more.

Name: Hyra
Species: European Rabbit
Color: White
Date of birth: November 1st
Current age: 4 human years (3 weeks rabbit years)
Height: 30 centimeters
Weight: 3 pounds
Hair: long, white and fluffy
Eyes: baby blue
Hyra is a pure white European Rabbit, orphaned before she had even opened her eyes for the first time. She was nearly a week old when her entire family was killed by a skulk of foxes, leaving her blind, alone and helpless. While out scavenging for berries one day, Horu happened upon this kit and decided it best to care for the baby until she could care for herself. Not long after that, Horu and Hyra became inseparable companions.

Name: Eris
Species: Ladybug
Date of birth: November 5th
Height: 7 millimeters
Weight: 0.021 grams
Eyes: black
One evening, when Horu went to visit a neighbor, she left her front door slightly ajar by mistake. When she returned home just a few minutes later, she found her home in shambles. Things had been thrown around, precious items knocked off of the table. After further investigation, Horu discovered the cause of all of the ruckus: a small, seemingly harmless ladybug.
Horu let the ladybug outside and went about picking up the mess that the little critter had created. Soon after, Horu went to sleep. In the middle of the night, she heard a rhythmic "thud" against her front door. With a groan, Horu dragged herself from her bed and sleepily fluttered over to the door. She opened it, only to see her doorstep empty and no one in sight.
Horu rolled her eyes and shut the door. As she turned around to go back to bed, she almost bumped heads with a little critter flying at eye level. Jumping back, Horu threw open the curtains, flooding the room with moonlight. There, flying in the middle of the room, was the little ladybug that she had let out of her house earlier that same day.
Horu flared her nostrils in frustration and quickly scurried the ladybug out the front door. But before she could even think about going back to bed, the rhythmic "thump" against the door started up again. This little pest would not leave her alone! Finally, Horu gave in and opened the door just enough to allow the little bug to zoom in.
The ladybug darted around the room with excitement, knocking things off of the walls in the process. From then on, Horu called the ladybug "Eris", in reference to the Greek Goddess of chaos.

✿ The Mother Flower
of the Midnight Bloomer.
The Mother Flower of Horu is most commonly called the Night-blooming Cereus. It is a member of the Cactus Family that resembles nothing more than a dead bush most of the year. It is rarely seen in the wild because of its inconspicuousness. But for one night each year, its exquisitely scented flower opens as night falls, then closes forever with the first rays of the morning sun.
The Night-blooming Cereus has sparse, angular, twiggy stems, generally about 1/2 inch in diameter. And, although it can reach up to 8 feet in length, it is usually about half of this. Night-blooming Cereus is popular in rock gardens and can be grown from stem cuttings. After the cut end is allowed to heal for several weeks, it is planted in dry sand. It's flowers are almost always white, often quite large, and frequently fragrant.
The blooming of a Night-blooming Cereus can take between 2-3 hours. The bud generally begins to swell around 9:00 or 10:00 pm and is fully open by midnight. It is quite an amazing thing to see! And, courtesy of a very popular video hosting site, I have provided a couple of screenshots for you. c:

✿ Get to know Horu
- 365 days, 365 questions, and 365 answers!

I'd like to pre-warn you that this section is extremely lengthy. Feel free to skim. ;D
1. What does your character's name mean to her?
Horu loves that her name is unique, and she is proud to have a name that she can define herself.
2. It's January second. Where is your character today and what is she doing?
She is playing out in the newly-fallen snow with Hyra. She will later be in her home, drinking something warm, and wrapping up in a blanket.
3. If your character could change one physical detail about herself, what would it be?
Definitely her ears. Although they look perfectly fine, she believes them to be just a bit too pointy.
4. Describe your character's hairstyle in detail. Why did she choose it? How much does she care about it?
Horu generally lets her hair waterfall down her back because the fact that it is semi-curly can make it difficult to do. Horu isn't concerned about her hair to the point that she'll be upset if it gets wet, but she is sure to care for it and make sure that it is healthy.
5. What is your character's favorite physical activity?
Horu absolutely loves to walk, although flying definitely comes second in her mind.
6. When was the last time your character climbed a tree? Why and under what circumstances? If she has
never climbed one, why not?
Horu climbed a sapling a couple of months ago because Eris stole one of her shoes and dropped on a branch that was very high up. With just her luck, it was raining outside and, because faeries can't fly in rain, Horu was forced to climb.
7. Your character comes face-to-face with her worst enemy. What is her first reaction?
Definitely glare, nostrils flared, and ignore completely.
8. What is your character's least favorite physical activity?
Running. O.O
9. What is your character's favorite weather?
About 65 degree weather, and a bit of sunshine poking through fluffy white clouds.
10. What is your character's favorite season?
Spring - so many beautiful flowers!
11. Your character keeps a photo album of memories from her lifetime. If she could only keep one photo,
what would it depict?
Her learning how to fly - it was hilarious!
12. Does your character keep any pets?
Although she doesn't consider them to be "pets", her rabbit, Hyra, and her Lady Bug, Eris, are her two animal companions.
13. A very large centipede runs across your character's leg. What does she do?
Probably shoot several feet into the air and have a mid-air freak out. Centipedes are larger, than her most of the time! xD
14. What does your character eat for breakfast?
A fresh cup of nectar and fruit.
15. What is your character's least favorite weather?Rainy thunderstorms. Not only is the thunder terrifying, but the rain makes it impossible to fly.
16. What is your character's fondest childhood memory?
Learning to fly and successfully flying for the first time.
17. What is your character's favorite piece of artwork?
Although art is not popular in her world, Horu is familiar with some of the art in the human world. Her favorite painting is Vincent van Gogh's "Irises".
18. What is your character's least favorite season?
Autumn.
19. Someone asks your character to describe her family. How does she answer?
She usually describes Hyra and Eris because she does not have any siblings.
20. Is your character a morning person, a night owl, or something else entirely?
Generally a little bit of both. She can stay up extremely late and still get up early the next morning - she just may not be the most pleasant person to be around. ;D
21. What is your character's least favorite color?
Brown.
22. What does the color orange make your character think of? How does it make her feel?
Daylilies. One of Horu's first friends outside of her village was a Daylily Faerie. Because of this, the color orange reminds her of this friend and makes her feel joyful.
23. Your character walks into her home and sees blood on the floor. What is her first reaction or thought?
First reaction: wide eyes and pale face
First thought: What did Eris do this time?!
24. Describe the outside of your character's home.
The outside of Horu's home is very tidy and decorated with pebbled and plants that Horu loves.
25. Describe a typical birthday for your character.
Hyra and Eris attempt to surprise her by baking her a cake. This usually results in a disastrous mess in the kitchen that Horu cleans up later. She spends time with her friends later and occasionally throws a small get together.
26. If a genie granted your character 3 wishes, what would she ask for?
More wishes. xD

Definitely not. She avoids large bodies of water at all costs.
8. How does your character feel about large bodies of water?
Very nervous. She dislikes them very much.
9. Does your character have any phobias? What are they and how intense are they? How have they
impacted her life?
She mildly experiences Ombrophobia, or the fear of rain or of being rained on. She is terrified that she will be caught in a sudden rainstorm with no shelter. This fear isn't to the point that Horu never goes outside, but if it looks like it might rain, she stays close to home.

❀ Just a Couple of
Changes for Horu.
Color: One of the very first things that I would do, if chosen to adopt Horu, is paint her White. My main reasoning behind this color is the fact that White makes a fabulous base for customizing. c: I have not yet purchased a White Paint Brush. However, I do have the Neopoints required to purchase one. I am just stalking the Trading Post for a good deal. ;D
Customization: I feel that one of the best things that TNT ever decided to create is the option to customize your pets. Not only does it give you a bit of creativity freedom, but it can also help to make a character, and its design, more realistic. With this in mind, I have already chosen what I believe to be the perfect customization for Horu. c:
||
You can click and drag those pictures to your address bar to see them larger if you would like to. :)
Customization 1: (Consists of Flower Bed Background, Faerie Dust Shower, Woodland Archer Wig, Earth Faerie Dress, Earth Faerie Leaf Shoes)
While deciding which items I would like to customize Horu with, I found the Flower Bed Background and thought it to be the perfect representation of her Mother Flower. I chose the Faerie Dust Shower just because I like sparkly things, and I think that the idea of showers is brilliant. ;D As for the Woodland Archer Wig, I loved the color of the hair and the leaves in it. I felt that the Earth Faerie Dress and Shoes represented her character well, especially because of the materials that they are made from. c:
Customization 2: (Consists of Lady Blurg Background, Woodland Archer Wig, Earth Faerie Dress, Earth Faerie Leaf Shoes)
The clothing between Customization 1 and this Customization is the same. The only differences are that this customization plan does not have the Faerie Dust Shower, nor the Flower Bed Background. Instead, I chose the Lady Blurg Background. I really liked that this Background appeared to be a house made from natural materials. This Background is representing how Horu lives and in what environment she is in.
Petpet: I have always quite loved the idea of Petpets and I try to get one for each of my pets. A goal of mine is to always incorporate either looks or characters when choosing a Petpet. As mentioned previously, and, with Horu's character in mind, I have chosen to give her a Snowbunny, whom I would name Hyra.

Although my original plan was to purchase a Spring Snowbunny, the only one for sale right now is selling for about 15 million Neopoints. And, I sadly do not have enough Neopoints to purchase one. Despite the fact that I'd really love to get Horu one, I settled for the next best thing and decided that a regular Snowbunny would work just fine. c:
I have purchased a Snowbunny and she can be found in my gallery. You are more than welcome to visit her there! ^^
Petpetpet: Now, I don't know about you, but I find Petpetpets to be a cute idea. Now, as cute as they may be, they can be quite pricey.
Expenses aside, I have purchased a Lady Blurg, whom I call Eris, for Horu and Hyra. c: You may also visit her in my gallery. ^^

❀ About Haylie
She's a strange, strange cookie.
(Please note that I am going to be moving my pets around accounts over the next couple of months, and I have listed them on the accounts that I will eventually have them on.)
|
|
|
This is my main and oldest account. I created it in May of 2008, making it 39 months old. c: I had originally planned this to be my "Baby account", but I have recently decided that this is the account where I would eventually like to have all of my Draiks. This is the account where Horu would permanently live if I were to adopt her. ^^
I spend most of my time on this account, seeing as this is where I am able to earn Neopoints and this is the account that most of my Neofriends know me by. I spend a good portion of my time on the Neoboards, generally stalking my friends' boards and giving advice and help when I can. c:
This is the first side account that I created in August of 2009. This is the account that I would like to transfer all of my Baby pets to when I have spare transfers. c: If chosen to adopt Horu, this is the account that I would have her transferred to so that I might swap her for Ebenzesah shortly after adopting. ;D
This is a recently made account, created in July of this year. I would eventually like to turn this account into my "lab account". A friend of mine has a Dream Pet Zapping Agency, and I'd love to join it eventually. c:
This is my most recently created account that I created to store some pets on until I sort out all of my other pets. xD
Now, I'll give you a little bit about my "account history", as you may want to know a couple of things. I hate to say it, but my main account was frozen once. It happened before it was even two weeks old though. I tried to log in to Neopets one day, only to discover that my account had been frozen for "an inappropriate pet name". I actually find this amusing because I didn't have any pets at the time. xD I e-mailed TNT and it was quickly unfrozen and here I am today! :)
Between my three accounts, I have been suspended twice, both for characters that TNT didn't see fit for Neo. I have since figured out what they considered to be "inappropriate", and I have made sure that I haven't included anything similar in my current characters. c: I have not received any warnings nor suspensions since then.
As you already know, my name is Haylie, and I am a crazy 18-year-old Utahn. xD I have just begun my senior year in high school and I am super excited! ^^ I am currently enrolled in three college classes in school, and, despite the workload, I still manage to find time for Neo. ;)
I love anything crafty, so I spend a lot of my time cutting up and gluing together scraps of paper to see what I can create. I also spend tons of time reading, school-assigned items more recently, but I love reading just for fun. I currently have a list of seventeen books that I'd like to finish. xD
I absolutely love to write, despite the fact that I consider myself to lack the creativity required to write and publish a successful book. xD However, I have been writing since I was three or four just because I enjoy it. I am obsessed with all things involved with grammar and editing, so I'm currently considering majoring in English in college. We'll see how that goes though. ;D
