Welcome to the Station

You step through the corrugated iron doors and into the shearing shed. The smell of wool grease and mechanic oil washes over you as you walk on the old, worn, but yet still reliable floor boards. The day's work is over. The flock has been released into the paddocks, the hand-pieces cleaned and put away, and the shearers retired for some well need rest.
You turn to leave when you notice a large pile of wool pushed up to the side of the wool-press, majority of it blocked from your view. It seems like a quality fleece, so you suspect that the bale was too full for it to be added. You again turn to leave, when you see something moving out of the corner of your eye. Maybe it is a rat, you think, or maybe a trick of the light.
You summon enough courage to look at the other side of the wool press. You walk slowly, turning the corner with a slight fear, but when you see what is sleeping in the wool, you can't help but smile.
Amongst the pile of soft fleece lies a very torpid lupe, who you disturbed when you had opened the heavy sliding door. The spotted Lupe looks up at you with dark brown eyes that seem to say I forgive you. Getting up with a quick shake, to remove the small pieces of wool, the Lupe gives you what appears to be a large grin, followed by a happy pant; you've just met Casterton.

Personality: Like most lupes, Casterton is loyal and dedicated. He is passionate about his work, and works intensely hard to ensure that he never lets anyone down. While on the job, Casterton is serious and stern to ensure punctual completion, and a quality job. This is quite on a contrast to his personality while taking a break, or on his days off, where he is often boisterous and silly. Those who know him often remark that his loyalty and love of life are unmatched, which make him the best friend one could have.

Meet Merino

About: Merino is that one friend that Casterton would never be able to live without. Casterton met Merino when he was just a pup, just starting his training. He had hidden in the pens from the older Lupes, embarrassed by his lack of skills, and despite being surrounded by the flock, felt quite alone. Merino had approached Casterton with curiosity and although seemingly unknowing, eventually helped Casterton both acquire his confidence and relieve his loneliness. The two have never been apart since.

What's In A Name?

Casterton is more than just a random assortment of letters that somehow managed to form a word. Actually, it has a lot of meaning in respects to his design. Casterton's design is based largely on a breed of Australian sheep and cattle dog; the Kelpie. The Kelpie originated from Collies bought over to Australia, with Kelpie being the name of one of the first pups found with the markings that now help to define the Kelpie. This is where Casterton's significance comes in. That original Kelpie was adopted in 1872, from a station near Casterton, Victoria. The town of Casterton is famous for its annual Kelpie muster which includes time trials, high-jump and other competitions. Casterton is a mere tribute to this great breed, and his character is based heavily on all the Kelpies I have both worked with and owned. His name is far more than just a random word.
