Take a couple of minutes to read this guide
and you will never need to use another guide again.
That's right there are no actual numbers here.
This guide aims to give you an understanding of NC items
so you can know how to value them yourself.
First thing's first. Values are based on 250NC caps. What this means is that when someone throws a number at you like "my item's worth 10-12" and you're trying to figure out what it's going to cost you, you multiply 10-12 x 250 and get 2500-3000NC. Now this gives you an idea of the items monetary value. Usually the lower end is for customs and the higher end for item trades. Now when it comes to cheaper caps or buyables, even though they cost less than 250, each item counts as 1cap because it requires a box to send. And although the 50c difference might not matter much when it comes to lower valued items it makes a rather huge difference when it comes to 50cap or 100cap items, and since we're not always trading caps for these items, (only talking about custom here, so it could be widgets or tokens or whatever else) it's good to determine an accurate value.
Now having said that values are fluid so knowing that something's worth 20caps for example doesn't mean that it's set in stone so whether you decide to offer a little bit less or a little bit more, the trade is basically decided upon what two people are happy to exchange. Whether you're over offering or giving a discount is up to you and does not change the value of an item.

The rest is really very simple, there are only a few simple steps you have to take when you want to find out the value of an item:

And here's how it works:
If an item was buyable for a whole season like in the summer section for instance and then retired with the season, then many people will have duplicates of these items from opening caps so they will remain fairly common and only be worth 1-2 caps for nearly a year. By the time they have been retired for a year their value will shift slightly to being 2-3. Watch out for seasonal items that were released at the end of the season like for example the Cupcake Shower, released 29th July – retired 31st July, so it was only available for 3 days out of the whole summer so most people don't have cap dupes and it's much harder to find and is therefore valued a little higher.
If an item was a super pack LE then it was already worth 2-3 while buyable and bumps up to being 3-4. This will change only slightly with time and based mostly on the popularity of the item. Super pack LEs don't usually get re-released which affects their value in the long run, a good example of this is the garden tea superpack where all the items are re-released every year except the shoes which cost about 3 times more than the other items.
If an item was a mystery capsule LE then it was worth 3-4 while the cap was buyable and around 5 once the cap retires. Again this could vary based on popularity. And over time cap LEs grow in value much more than buyables because they were rarer to begin with.
If an item is currently available from a game like jubjub, wonderclaw or nox then it will be as common if not more than a regular buyable as a lot of people play these games insatiably and have 5 or more duplicates of every item that ends up permanently living on a 1cap sale page. However these are games of chance and some items will prove harder to get than others so this as well as their popularity will affect their value. Oh and I should add novelty. Whenever one of these items is brand new they will always trade a bit higher and as time goes on and more people play and they become more widely available the value drops, however the harder to get and more popular items will rise.
If an item is from a site event like Altador Cup or Daily Dare or New Game Challenge where prizes are 1 per person and you're not allowed to participate on sides and they will not be re-released like other buyables or cap LEs their value is already higher than regular buyables or common NC game items. But since most NCers participate in pretty much all events all year round it will still mean that everyone has one and there's plenty to go around. However, there are some items from these events that gain exceptional popularity, and due to them being rarer than the rest, increase in value drastically over time. Good examples of these are Shooting Novas from NGC 2010 (also because that game challenge was not out for very long!), Skeletal Face Paint from AC 2009, Altadorian Wig with Gold Ribbon from AC 2010, Games Master Challenge Lulu Wig from GMC 2010. So as much as most event items are never worth more than 3-5caps, some very popular items just have no set value and its always a good idea to check on the boards what something is currently trading for.
If an item is from an event that you can participate in on side accounts like Neggstravaganza or Trick or Treat then these items are very common and unless they're very popular right from the start they'll never be worth more than 2-3 and can always be found in cap sales, because even as they age loads of people will still have multiples to get rid of and they'll never really become rare.
If an item was released and retired during 2007-2008 before NC trading was possible then it will be quite rare and very valuable like TNT Staff Smasher or Attack of the Revenge Background because back then people didn't buy extras for trade or investment as there was no such thing as boxes or trading and people only bought what they liked, so there's nowhere nearly as many of them to go around.
If an item is from an MME or a collector's bonus you have to first judge how old it is, because again the older MMEs and collectables were only bought by a few people and they are rarer, whereas nowadays a lot of people buy 5 or 10 MMEs to get the MME bonus and a lot of stages wind up in 1cap sales and a lot of people buy collectables on sides for collectable bonuses and they'll never be as rare as the older ones like the bag of faeries for instance.
Now when it comes to Super Saled items that will never be re-released, obviously this affects their value but again this mostly depends on how old they are. Items that were in the super sale in 2008 tend to be the most valued because like I mentioned earlier this was before trading started which affects their rarity. Backgrounds from the 2008 super sale are valued between 25 and 40 caps, and trinkets and other stuff usually go for anywhere between 10 and 20. Later super sale items are much less rare and will never reach the same values as the 2008 stuff because they were out in the mall for a long time, usually a year or more and a lot of people have duplicates from opening caps and there's generally a lot more people buying NC now than there was back when it first started.
Goodie bags and other freebies from the Mall will pretty much always stay at 1cap value that's if you're lucky enough to find a trade for them, because its free to begin with most people will have picked one up on every account they have so they're as common as can be. The only rare goodie bag is the very first one because its back from when not many people were into NC so there's less of them and most people that did get one opened it, and they're only really valuable to collectors so you'll still have a hard time trading it. If you think holding on to your current goodie bag for 5 years will make it valuable eventually it's not likely because like I said a lot of people have multiples of them so they'll never be as rare.
