The Ice Element Xweetok

A touch of poetry can brighten the darkest dusk...

It was night, the cool air of evening blowing in the form of a slight breeze through the trees of the forest, the stars and moon lighting the sky, and the darkness overtaking everything.
All was still, except for the wind passing like a whisper of chill, and the shadows hanging heavily in the crevices of the brush, the light not creeping far enough into the forest to illuminate the darkest hidden parts.

This was where you found yourself, the dark chilly forest in the middle of the night. Of course you had meant to leave earlier, but you couldn't help but want to take a few more moments to enjoy the sunset while walking along in the path.
Hadn't expected it to end so soon, hmm? Now all around you was shadows, foliage, and your own fears shining in the darkness. Was anybody there? You had searched for the path again, but could not find it. It seemed rather strange once you thought about it, something so big and visible like a path just..vanishing when you turned around, or so it seemed.
Then again, may have just been your mind playing tricks on you. But of course, when the darkness surrounded you and shadows danced through the corner of your eye, you weren't exactly one to fall into believing common sense, as your imagination overtook the thought and soon enough, you were shivering in fear of monsters, shadow creatures, or whatever may lurk in the darkness ready to devour you.
Just as you began to seriously consider running around screaming for help, a sound reaches your ears.
Its a voice, smooth as the wind, so quiet you wonder how you even noticed it.
The words it spoke were fairly soft, but still distinguishable,
A night in the cold darkness,
A light in the day's heat,
Some prefer the warmth of sun...
But the moon is all I need.

You listen curiously to the words of the voice, blinking. Was that poetry? The voice, now getting louder and accompanied by soft footsteps, was obviously male, though still smooth and, for lack of a more fitting word, silky.
You blink, and realize whoever was reciting their own strange poetry was nearing you. Looking around in vain, you back up, trying to hide in the shadows. But you are thwarted, as you step behind, your foot falls on a twig, a dry little stick.
A snap fills the silence, the pause of poetry, and the footsteps stop.
Panicked, you lean backwards, and fall noisily into the bush, eyes wide. That didn't work out...quite as planned.
You try in vain to curl into a ball and hide as the footsteps began again, this time faster, hoping he won't see you and think its his mind.I know someone is here, The voice was close now, and you tried not to breath, hidden in the brush,A clumsy someone, I infer. I am no harm, you know.
You blink at his words, and try to look over, eventually craning your neck slightly and catching sight of the figure.
He was a xweetok, fairly large and lean in stature, and quite handsome as well with the moonlight from the parting of trees behind him, near you illuminating his face.
His fur was a greyish blue, and around his forest green eyes that scanned the area was a dark grey stripe. The same green framed his small ears, perked forward for any noises you may make, and the shade recurred once more on his mane and stripe running from his shoulder to tail, this time in the form of spots upon dark grey fur.
He flicked his tail, which was ended with a dark grey-blue splotch of spots, tipped with another light grey splotch at the very end.
The colors reaccured like before, this time the silver gracing both sets of paws and his stomach, while the blue was spots over his front legs, around his back and splotchy spots yet again on the base of his hind legs, and finally tipping the very end of the hair-like fur that covered his eyes.
You lean closer for a better look, amazed by the strange appearence of this xweetok, when suddenly your foot snags yet another twig, this time from the bush, and as you shift ever so slightly, a snap again fills the still air.
You couldn't hold back a slight gasp as the male's head, previously still as a statue, flipped over to you swiftly, and he turned towards you, holding his head up.
As I said before, he stated,I mean no harm. Show yourself.
You decided after a moment, that really you couldn't hide much longer.
So with a bit of pain and grunting, you suddenly reveal yourself, staggering into a stand in front of the xweetok.
He observes you silently, then says,Caltoran is my name, greetings.
You blink, and nod, answering,I'm guest...Nice to meet you...
He nods briefly, then looks at you and says,You look rather disheveled, not one to be trekking through a forest and falling into bushes often, I infer.
You blink, feeling a bit emberrassed as you said,Uhhm, yeah...I kinda..got lost here.
A grin alit the male's face, but not one of mocking, but of kindness as he spoke again fluidly,I see then. Fortunatly for you, I'd say, I can help you back to the path. You came from there, correct?
You nod, baffled at the way he spoke, so smooth without even faltering.
Come with me.
He begins to walk, turning a different direction slightly from where you remember the path being.
You begin to correct him, when suddenly he and you break the foliage, and you are at the very spot you got lost in, the end of the path.
Baffled, you look around, verifying this was where you'd entered the forest on accident.
I presume you can find your way back from here? His voice interrupts your thoughts, and you looked at him, and said,Oh, yeah, thanks Caltoran,
He nods, gentlemanly, and says,Goodbye for now, then guest. Perhaps we shall meet again, hopefully on a lighter occasion, both in action and in daylight.
You nod again, waving to Caltoran as he vanishes into the brush, and you turn along the path.
How strange.

History

----------------

I was born into a special family of xweetoks called Qirona. They were specially skilled in controlling ice and snow, and lived at the base of terror mountain in a happy little cottage.
They were not devoid of sadness, though, as a genetic plague always struck a large amount of them. It had two forms: The long-term disease, and the short-term disease.
My father and mother died of the short term disease, before I knew them too well. My grandfather, who was infected with the long term, raised me until I was about 10.
One of the most peculiar things about me, is that I have a constant aura of cold around me. Its always much cooler near me than near others...I was told later on it was a once in a generation thing, that one child would have exceptinal ice powers, but the aura would be with them always.
My aura caused a bit of trouble growing up, as sometimes my cousins would not play with me, beause I was always so chilly to be around. I didn't mind, as long as my grandpa had kept assuring me it was a passing phase, I felt happy.
But it all ended, one day as me and my grandfather were fishing. We ran out of bait, so I went back to get some.
One of the disease's effects are that the infected one will tend to black out randomly, for no particular reason.
when I was fetching bait, that very thing happened to my grandfather. As I came back and saw him in the water, unconscious, I ran and jumped in to save him.
That was a mistake.
As I fell into the water, all around me it began to freeze, and when I grabbed for my grandfather, I watched in horror as the ice crawled around him as well, into his lungs where water was forming.
He didn't stand a chance.
I managed to flail and break some of the ice away, but I was runing out of air.
Fortunately our family had seen me, and someone ran to help, pulling me out and snapping the ice around me. I almost leapt in but they held me back....It was too late for Grandpa.
From there I grew up as an orphan for 5 years, and when I was 15 I was roaming outside in winter a lot, seeing as my cousins were now poking fun at me for my aura, and being very horrible to me.
One night I found an interesting path, and walked down it, losing track of time. When I realized the sun was setting, I rushed back, but noticed in the dark that the lights in the house were out.
That was very unusual, they couldn't have gone to sleep right now, and he knew by the lights in front of the house that the electricity wasn't off, so why were they out?
Just as I thought that I saw a shady figure suddenly dart from one of the windows into the brush.
Something was wrong, I knew, and I dashed into the house.
The image I saw will never leave my mind.
Everywhere the family was killed, no one was left living. I roamed around, afraid, then terrified for my life I ran desperately away, tired but fearful that the figure would come after me.
I kept on running, not stopping, and eventually I had no energy left, and I collapsed in the snow.
But I was lucky, as I was found by a passing librarian, who brought me to his library, helping me get better. I lived with him for another 4 years, learning to read, write, and becoming utterly obsessed with poetry.
It gave me a new outlook on life, to always be optimistic, to see the beauty in ever situation. Even though my family was dead and I had nowhere to live, I felt uplifted and strong. So at 19, I bidded my surrogate father goodbye, and set out on my own, poetry books in tow.
One day I heard of a forest of xweetoks with special powers, that were all strange and wierd.
Intrigued I inquired all around for rumors, and learned it was called The Xweetok forest, and was a special forest in a valley. Hearing that most all of them had strange powers and elements, I knew at once I would fit in there. Quickly I begin the journey, and ifnally ofund the place... I've been there ever since.
