Never gonna give you up,
Never gonna let you down,
Never gonna run around and desert you.
Never gonna tell --
Cady flipped open her phone, careful not to disturb the protoboard she was currently soldering together. Yeah, Tessa, what's up? she asked, slightly irritated at the disturbance.
Oh, not much, Tessa said. I was just wondering if you wanted to go float down the Madeson River a little later today.
Cady paused for a second, just enough to make Tessa think she might be indecisive. Yeah, sure, that sounds fun, she replied. What time?
As soon as the details were solidifed and the good-byes said, Cady snapped her phone shut and ran to the other side of her cluttered laboratory, almost tripping over an old, malfunctioning robotic arm. In the corner was a table that was surprisingly neat compared the rest of the lab, only holding a few small, polished experiments. Cady picked up one of them, smiling at her reflection. She had been waiting to use this one for a while.

Cady shouldered her towel bag and walked out of her apartment to see Tessa outside, the motor of her Subaru rumbling in a very friendly way. Hey, Tessa said over the noise of her car, Sorry, but we brought a few more people than could quite fit in our cars... you'll have to squeeze together. Cady nodded. That's fine. She peered into the back seat to see that two of the three seats were already taken; one of the boys in the back charitably scooted into the middle seat so Cady could squeeze in next to him. Hi, she said to the guys. One of them was very long and lanky, his hair sticking up like gravity had no hold on it; the other was a bit shorter with a fantastic curly beard. Hi, the lanky one responded. I'm Kyle, and this is Conner, my roommate.
Pleased to meet you, Cady smiled. She readjusted her towel bag to make sure the device she had brought wasn't showing before extending her hand to both of them.
