Hello guest!

Welcome to our home base. If you're here, it's quite clear, but we'll say it again:

Who are we? Well...

We Are Maraqua! We Are Maraqua!

A Team that formed in the first Altador Cup, we surged up the standings last year, and this year we're aiming - and have a plan to achieve - first place!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who's in charge?

We currently have two leaders.  Franc and Xepha.  They founded WAM and have been with us from the beginning.  They are both benevolent rulers who are more than friendly and happy to help whenever they can. Just like any rulers, they are not always going to do exactly what you want.  What they will do however, is whatever they know is best for the team.  Be patient with them.  They have taken on an incredible task of ruling our school of fish and that deserves nothing but our highest respect.

Wave your fins anytime you see them swim by the chatboards!  If it weren't for them, there would be no WAM!

What are Daily Goals?

We have a goal every day as a team.  It is kept track of by our school of impressive scorekeepers.  It is simply a goal for each game that we as a team strive to reach (goals in YYB, point totals in SS, MSN and ShoSho).  We hope to crush our initial goals every day, and when we do, do we give up??  Of course not!  We're fish!  We increase them and fight even harder!!

There is also a listing of Daily Personal Goals on the main page of HQ.  If you feel like going absolutely crazy and reaching for the golden bubble, those are your aims.  If not… Any little bit you play every day will help us.

There is no goal, no point so small that it does not help your fellow WAMmies.

What can you tell me more about WAM history in Altador Cup?

As you probably know by now, most of the lands in Neopia have a stake in the AC.  Maraqua is one of them.  And they always have been.  WAM was started in AC 1 with minimal following.  We lost that first year, knocked out in the first round.  Apparently the fish from way back when judged a team on how well it performed, rather than how amazing the team was.  We miss those of us from our first year that departed to find gold medals.  And we wish them the best.

WAM was re-started during AC 2 and has been growing in following every year, little by little, ever since.  This was the first year that the double round-robin tournament style was adopted.  (Each team play each other team twice.  After that, the teams advance in brackets based on current standings).  This was also the first year that the games Make Some Noise (MSN) and Slushie Slinger (SS) were added to the Altador Cup.  Maraqua finished 9th out of 16 in year 2.

AC 3 brought most of the same from the WAMmies: lots of fighting and heart (and gills), but also a lot of plain old fun!  After much difficult fighting, we fell one space and finished in 10th of 16.

So this brings us to AC 4.  They added a 4th game to the AC, the Shootout Showdown, made especially for the NeoCash Challenge (but MORE than open to play for those of you who don't choose to participate in that).

It is a brand new year and we are a brand new MQ.  There are still plenty of faces that you remember, along with a lot of new ones.  We are still known as the nicest, most team-oriented team in all of Neopia, and we plan to keep it that way.  Good sportsmanship and fair play are what we live by.

Anyone is entirely free to join Maraqua without joining WAM.  And while its fun floating around with the fishies, it's a lot more fun swimming with your family.  And that's what WAM strives to be, and is.

WAM (We. Are. Maraqua!) is a group of Maraquan supporters that strive for the absolute best individually, as well as with the team spirit.  We have message boards, scoreboards, and a PetPage (insert HQ link here) that is amazingly gorgeous (thanks entirely to Xepha!) AND informative.  Anything you need to know about WAM is most likely on there.

Why are you still listening to me talking???  Get out there and play your little fins off!!

How to play games? Do you have tips for me to improve my scores?

What is a race?

A race is a competition between members of the same team on the neoboards.  Whoever decides to start, or run the race, decides on a goal.  Whether it be YYB goals or points scored in any of the other games, the finish line is stated.  When the initiator gives the signal, everyone on the team (who wants to race) starts playing the specified games as much as they can.  After every game, you post your updated total versus the goal. {Example:  476/5000, 782/5000 {were it SS} or 13/100, 21/100 {if we were doing YYB goals}…)  The first one to hit the goal first, wins!

What is a Mass?

A mass is a team effort to reach a certain goal in the quickest time possible.  It is a team-effort race against ourselves!  Everyone on the board is working as one.  The goal is (usually) a lot higher than a race, and its all about the team spirit.  Depending on the mass, you either post your score, or 2-6 scores, of the current game with your post. Help your team hit that ultimate goal, and feel the power of WAM!!

I have another question...

This section is new and constantly growing.  Any questions you have, please feel free to NM Xepha, Francineh, or irishprincess82.  We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner with an answer!
